"Well done, Kali. It seems like your almost as good as your brother said" The nearest man announced, watching as Kali flinched.
"He's here? On the island?" Billy interjected, a hopeful look in his eyes.
"You want answers? Hand her over" The man suggested, looking to Cindy, as Kali scoffed harshly.
In response, Kali pulled Cindy to stand in front of her, now holding the gun against her temple, her other hand gripping onto Cindy's arm. This action seemed to shock some of the group, who had never seen the darker part of Kali before.
"How about you tell me what I want to know, and I won't blow her brains out?" Kali retorted.
"You're bluffing" The man exclaimed.
"You really want to take that chance?" Kali threatened a cold look in her eye.
"Cindy, just stay calm, we're going to get you out of this-" One of the other men started, but Kali quickly cut him off.
"You want to save her? Lower your guns. Right now," Kali told them, as the man who spoke reluctantly did so.
"Otis, you pick your gun up right this second" The first man insisted, but his ally wasn't listening.
"It seems like Otis is the only one with half a brain cell in your group. What might your name be, Chief?" Kali questioned.
"…Danny. His name's Danny!" Cindy spoke up, after Kali pressed the gun harder against her head.
"You've been here before the plane crash?" Kali asked, as Cindy reluctantly nodded, much to Danny's disgust.
"How the hell is that possible?" Sawyer queried, coming to stand beside Kali.
"I…I was following someone-" Cindy started, but Danny quickly cut her off.
"Not another word Cindy" Danny warned her, a dangerous tone to his voice.
"Did you know the plane was going to crash?" Kali inquired, as Cindy shook her head frantically.
"N-no…please, I don't know anything-" Cindy was cut off once again by Danny.
"Stop talking Cindy!" Danny insisted, moving his arm to aim his gun lower, now pointed directly at Cindy.
"You'd kill one of your own just for talking?" Kali asked, clearly seeing his threat.
"We've killed others for less" Danny replied, taking the safety off his gun.
"Please, Danny! You know me…you need me! Ben wouldn't…" Cindy trailed off, as Danny lowered his gun and shot into the ground by their feet.
"Ben, huh? Is he the top dog at your camp?" Kali guessed as Danny's jaw tensed.
"Alright, I'm done playing games. You have no way out of this" Danny announced, as Kali's eyes darted down to something in peripheral vision.
She noticed that Sawyer was making a gesture with his hand, pointing towards Billy on her other side. Trying not to make it look too obvious, her eyes snapped over to Billy for just one second, to see his backpack was on the floor, his hand clearly ready to pull something out. He had a plan. That was good enough for Kali.
"You clearly don't know me as well as you think you do" Kali scoffed, as Danny took a step forward.
"Sure I do. Which is why I know you're not going to shoot her" Danny stated, taking another step forward, getting way to close for Kali's liking.
"And why's that?" Kali asked, seeing Billy's hand slip into the backpack from her peripheral vision.
"Your brother's not here. Do you really have what it takes to pull the trigger?" Danny inquired, as Kali seemed to mull this over for a moment.
"…Nope!" Kali exclaimed, suddenly shoving Cindy towards Danny, as they both fell to the ground.
"Close your eyes!" Billy shouted, as his group did what they were told, hearing something spark from nearby.
When Kali's eyes fluttered open a moment later, she saw red sparks coming from all directions and realised that Billy had thrown a handful of flares towards the unsuspecting Others. One flare seemed to have ignited one of the men's clothes, as Kali watched him pull off his dirty shirt and…beard? It was fake? Before she could think into it too much, Billy was tugging at her arm and trying to pull her away from the scene. Placing the gun back into the waistband of her trousers, she turned back to haul Sawyer's arm over her shoulders, knowing they needed to run while they still could.
Eventually, the group had to stop running, finding some shelter in a nearby field with grass that grew almost as tall as them. They huddled down, careful to be as quiet as they could and waited to see if the Other's were following.
"I think we've lost them" Michael mumbled, but Kali still wasn't sure.
"…Jesus, Ana. Back up a bit, would you?" Kali complained, shoving the older woman away from her, as she was practically plastered against her back.
"You almost got us all killed back there" Ana accused, leaning back on her knees.
"Oh I'm sorry, next time I'll just lead a mole back to our camp-" Kali retorted, as she was shushed by Jin.
"What was all that talk about your brother?" Libby inquired, as she had never heard anyone mention Kali's brother before.
"I, uh…he's…" Kali stuttered, not sure what to say.
"I was travelling with him. We got split up, I was never sure if he made it onto the plane" Billy answered for her, as she gave him a grateful look.
"You never said your brother might be on the island" Michael pointed out, confusion clear in his voice.
"I figured if he was I'd have found him by now" Kali shrugged.
"You don't seem that worried about him" Ana suggested, as Kali turned to glare at her.
"Well, maybe if you spent less time keeping an eye on me you'd have noticed you had a fucking spy in your camp, Ana" Kali stated, as the two women looked all but ready to claw at each other's throats.
"Sawyer!" Jin's panicked voice cut through the tension, as all eyes snapped to him.
Kali looked on in horror as she saw Sawyer had flopped onto his side, his eyes fluttering closed. She was by his side in an instant, pulling him onto her lap as she patted at his face lightly.
"Sawyer? Sawyer, wake up" Kali exclaimed.
"You…you need to go…" Sawyer trailed off, barely conscious.
"Not a chance" Kali shook her head, cupping his cheek gently.
"Please, blue eyes. Just…just leave me" Sawyer insisted.
"No. We stick together. Come whatever, remember?" Kali replied as Sawyer's lips twitched into a smile.
A moment later, Sawyer's eyes began to roll into the back of his head, as he lost consciousness completely. Kali shook him by the shoulders, hoping to wake him up but it was no good.
"Sawyer? Sawyer!" She cried, in a panic.
"Water! We need some water!" Michael exclaimed, as Kali tried to pinch Sawyer's shoulder, just as she had been taught in school.
"C'mon, please. Wake up!" Kali begged but got no response.
"Here you go," Libby said, as she tried to hand Kali a flask of water.
"No, that won't help" Kali shook her head, as Michael frowned.
"But…but you said he was dehydrated, right? We just need to give him the water-" Michael started, but she cut him off.
"He's unconscious. All your gonna' do by shoving water down his throat is make him aspirate. He…he needs IV fluids, antibiotics…he needs a hospital…" Kali trailed off, biting her lip.
"We got to keep moving" Ana announced, as all eyes snapped up to her.
"What?" Kali questioned, dumbfounded.
"We can't just wait here. We have to go. Now" Ana told them, as Jin said some angry words to her in Korean.
"You want to stay? That's fine. But we're rolling out" Ana informed them, as Billy scoffed harshly.
"Like hell we are" Billy retorted, as Kali gave Sawyer to Jin, seeing that things were about to turn ugly, and pushed herself to her feet.
"Have you forgotten about what the Other's did to us?" Ana insisted as Libby and Bernard shared a worried look.
"I swear to God if you-" Kali began, but Ana stopped her but standing up with an exasperated sigh.
"I am not about to die for your hick boyfriend!" Ana insisted as Kali's jaw tensed.
Before anyone could say anything, Kali had suddenly lunged at Ana, hitting her squarely in the face, as the older woman fell to her knees. Kali then moved to grab Ana by her hair, wrenching her up to speak into her ear.
"I'm only going to say this once, so listen up. If you threaten Sawyer's life one more time, I will hand you over to the Other's myself…in fact, if he dies, you die" Kali threatened, as Ana's eyes widened.
"What?" Ana gaped.
"I don't think she's bluffing, Ana" Billy stated, crossing his arms.
"Now, you and Michael are going to find what we need to build a stretcher, while we stay on lookout. Do you have a problem with that?" Kali spat out, shoving Ana away from her.
"No" Ana replied, shakily.
"Have I said how much I've missed you?" Billy questioned, with an amused smile.
With that motivation in mind, it didn't take long for a stretcher to be made and soon they were back on their way to the camp. There was a thick tension in the air, as everyone could see Kali was slowly unwinding as Sawyer got sicker. They were beginning to fear what she would do if he didn't make it.
"How much further do you think?" Bernard inquired, his arms aching from holding one end of the stretcher.
"No more than two hours" Eko suggested, keeping his eyes on Kali.
"Jack…help" Jin said to Kali, who gave him a grateful smile.
"Yeah. Jack will know what to do" Kali nodded, not really believing it herself.
"He better" Ana mumbled, remembering Kali's earlier threat.
The group came to a sudden halt when they heard a strange sound from all around them, as panic washed over them. Kali felt a shiver go down her spine as she could clearly make out dozens of voices whispering all around them. Sawyer's stretcher was slowly dropped to the ground, as only Kali kept a hold of it.
"What the hell is that?" Kali whispered; fear clear in her voice.
"Run!" Ana shouted, beginning to sprint off into the jungle.
Her group were quick to follow, apart from Billy who stayed close by Kali's side, holding a protective arm out. Kali wasn't surprised as Michael gave her a guilty look before running after the others, as only Jin stayed with them. Kali reached down to grab the gun from her waistband, her eyes widening when she couldn't feel it.
"The guns gone" Kali murmured, in a hushed voice.
"What?" Billy exclaimed, looking at her back to see it was right.
"Oh shit" Kali mumbled, a memory flashing past her eyes.
"Ana must have grabbed my gun earlier" Kali sighed, cursing herself for not realising earlier.
"Closer..." Jin trailed off, as the whispering got louder.
"Get ready to grab Sawyer and run" Kali advised Billy, who looked at her unsurely.
"What are you gonna' do?" Billy frowned, as Kali took a step back.
"Create a distraction" Kali announced, as she began waving her arms around.
"Hey! Over here! Come and get me!" Kali cried, as Billy pulled Sawyer over his shoulder, giving Kali one last look before he took off.
"Go Jin!" Kali hissed, as Jin reluctantly followed behind Billy.
Kali was relieved as the whispering seemed to centre around her, leaving Billy and Jin free to make a run for it. Kali's eyes darted in all directions as she tried to spot what was making the noise. The whispering was becoming so loud it was starting to hurt her ears, as an idea came into her head.
"This is a really stupid plan…" Kali trailed off, as she shut her eyes, and dropped to her knees.
Almost immediately, the whispering began to dissipate around her, seeming to lose its interest. Kali's eyes slowly fluttered open, letting out a sigh of relief when she could no longer hear the whispering. A twig snapped from behind her, causing her to whip her head around, frowning when she saw no one was there. As she turned back around to face the way Billy and Jin had ran, her heart stopped when she saw what was in front of her.
"Walt?" Kali cried, seeing the young boy sitting only inches in front of her, water dripping all over him.
"You're never going to leave this island" Walt told her, his voice mixed with another.
Kali flinched as she heard a large gunshot, holding her hands out in front of her, believing someone was shooting at her. When her eyes reopened, she was shocked to find Walt was gone, a deafening silence coming over the jungle.
"…My gun…" Kali mumbled, as she pushed herself to her feet and sprinted in the direction of the sound.
Kali didn't have to run far before she found out who had fired her gun. Her hand flew to her mouth as she saw Ana with her arm still raised, and Shannon on the ground, blood pouring from her abdomen. Sayid was pulling her into his arms, a heartbroken expression on his face, as Kali rushed forward.
"Shannon!" Kali exclaimed, kneeling beside the pair.
"Help her…please" Sayid begged, as Kali looked down to Shannon's wound.
She instantly ripped off her plaid shirt, pushing it roughly against the bullet wound in Shannon's stomach, hoping to stop the bleeding. She panicked when she realised Shannon was no longer conscious and reached out to feel her pulse. Nothing.
"Press down…hard" Kali informed Sayid, moving his hands to Shannon's stomach.
She then pulled Shannon's head back, making sure her airway was open and began CPR. She continued pumping down on Shannon's chest as rain started to pour down, water and blood seeping over her hands. Kali opened Shannon's mouth to give rescue breaths, pulling back when she found Shannon's mouth had filled with blood. With a panicked look, she pulled Sayid's hands away, finding blood had completely soaked through her shirt, and pooled under Shannon's body. She had already lost too much blood, the bullet seemed to have struck something vital. With a sob, Kali moved to close Shannon's eyes that were still open.
"What…what are you doing? We can still…there must be something you can do!" Sayid pleaded as Kali shook her head.
"It's too late, Sayid. I'm sorry" Kali replied, as Sayid pulled Shannon back into his arms, his eyes welling with tears.
Everything next happened in a blur, as Sayid was suddenly on his feet, aiming his own gun towards Ana. Before he could get far, Eko wrestled him to the ground, as a fight ensured. Ana seemed to realise that her own gun was now redundant, having no bullets left. Eko managed to throw Sayid's gun from his hands, as it fell into Ana's path, who picked up the weapon, sending it slamming into the back of Sayid's head.
"Don't move! Nobody move!" Ana announced, pointing her gun at everyone in the group.
"What're you gonna' do, Ana? Kill another person?" Kali spat out, standing up.
"You really don't want to argue with me right now, bitch" Ana warned her, as Kali took a step forward.
"Go on then…do it. I don't care anymore…" Kali exclaimed, her eyes darting to Sawyer's body on the ground.
"What?" Ana frowned; her gun still aimed towards Kali.
"Do it! Just do it!" Kali yelled, storming forward, as Ana's hand began to shake.
Ana took a step back, shocked by Kali's disregard for her own safety…and stumbled right into Billy's arms. Billy quickly grabbed Ana's arm, shoving the gun from her grip, using his other arm to wrap around Ana's neck.
"You've really fucked up this time, Ana" Billy told her, pulling harder against her neck, as she started to choke.
Kali quickly rushed over to Sawyer, knowing that they didn't have any time to waste. She needed to get Sawyer to Jack, that was all that mattered at that moment.
"Don't" Kali announced, turning back to Billy, who looked all but ready to snap Ana's neck.
"She's a loose cannon" Billy pointed out, but he did as Kali told him, dropping Ana to the ground.
Kali's eyes darted over to Sayid who began to push himself to his feet, a murderous look in his eyes as he stormed over to Ana. Kali rushed forward to stop him, knowing Sayid wouldn't hold back.
"Sayid, stop! You're better than this" Kali insisted, grabbing onto his arm, roughly.
"She killed Shannon!" Sayid yelled, shoving her away.
"I know. And trust me, revenge? I get the appeal, I really do. But it's not going to bring her back" Kali went on, moving to stand in front of Sayid.
"Why are you protecting her?!" Sayid shouted, his voice thick with emotion.
"I'm not protecting her…I'm protecting you. What happened to wanting to do better? You said this was your second chance. Don't waste that on her" Kali explained, her eyes boring into Sayid's.
"I…I can't let her live" Sayid sobbed, with wet eyes.
"…I need you to help me get Sawyer to Jack. He's sick. He's going to die. Help me, Sayid" Kali announced, taking a step forward to place her hand on Sayid's shoulder.
"I'll come back for her" Sayid replied, a moment later, as Kali nodded.
Sayid then trudged over to Sawyer's sweat-soaked body, kneeling to haul him over his shoulder, and turning to look at Kali expectantly.
"Stay here with her. Tie her up" Kali advised Billy, as she and Sayid began to walk away.
"Sun?" Jin exclaimed, as Kali nodded and ushered him to join them.
"Kali…" Billy trailed off, moving to step in her way.
"I don't have time to deal with you right now, okay? Just…stay here. Don't let her out of your sight" Kali informed Billy, who reluctantly got out of her way.
The four weren't sure how long they had run through the jungle, only knowing they had to get back to the camp as quickly as they could. Kali could tell they were getting closer to the beach as the jungle was becoming less thick, but this only made her run faster. Her eyes widened when she heard voices through some nearby undergrowth and sprinted forward, practically colliding with a body as she did so.
"Kali?" A familiar voice asked, as Kali looked up to see Jack's concerned eyes looking down at her.
Any relief that was on Jack's face quickly vanished when he saw Sayid rushing forward, with Sawyer slung over his shoulder.
"What happened?" Jack questioned, as Kate walked up behind him.
"He got shot…it's bad, Jack…it's really bad…" Kali trailed off.
"We need to get him to the bunker. Now" Jack ordered, as Sayid was already rushing forward.
"The bunker?" Kali frowned, following them.
Kali helped Jack drag Sawyer towards the bathrooms of the bunker, pushing through her awe of the large structure around her. The only thing on her mind was Sawyer, who was getting harder to keep upright by the second.
"He's burning up. We've got to get his fever down" Jack advised, as they helped to place Sawyer underneath the showerhead.
"He needs antibiotics right now. Ofloxacin will be best right?" Kali asked, looking to Jack.
"They're in the medical stash. Little white pills…now, Kate" Jack insisted to Kate, when he saw she wasn't moving, who nodded, and left the room.
"How long ago did he get shot?" Jack questioned, as he turned on the shower, letting the cool spray wash over Sawyer's face and body.
"Almost four days" Kali replied, as Jack's eyes snapped up to hers.
"…Have you cleaned his wound?" Jack inquired, as Kali nodded.
"As much as I could. I've tried to keep him hydrated but he passed out earlier today, he's barely been conscious" Kali explained, as Jack ripped open Sawyer's shirt to get a better look at his bullet wound.
"He's got sepsis" Jack sighed.
"I know…" Kali trailed off, running a hand through her hair.
"Here! I've got the antibiotics!" Kate announced, rushing back in.
"Alright, let's get him onto the bed" Jack advised, as Sayid came in to help, taking one arm as Kate took the other.
"I tried to get him here…I really did…I tried…" Kali sobbed, tears beginning to well in her eyes.
"Hey, it'll be okay-" Jack started, but she cut him off.
"No. No, it won't! It's my fault, I should have…I should have stopped this" Kali cried, as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Kali, you've got to be strong now, okay? He still needs you" Jack insisted, placing his hands on her shoulders.
"I can't let him die, Jack" Kali exclaimed, for once looking her young age of nineteen.
"I know. So let's fix him" Jack told her, as she nodded, allowing him to pull her to towards the bedroom.
"Why is he shaking like that?" Kate panicked, as they entered the room.
"He's going into shock" Kali gulped.
"Kali, help me hold him up," Jack asked, as she climbed onto the bunk, moving to sit behind Sawyer, his back to her chest.
Kali let his head rest against her shoulder, using one hand to comb through his blond hair soothingly, grimacing every time he shook against her. Jack then placed the antibiotic against Sawyer's lips, trying to get him to drink a moment later, but Sawyer spat it back out. He probably had no idea what was happening, Kali realised.
"Damnit" Jack grumbled, worried that he wouldn't be able to get Sawyer to take the pill.
"Let me do it" Kali offered, as Jack shook his head.
"No, I've got it" Jack sighed, hating feeling so useless.
"Jack. I can do it" Kali insisted, as he reluctantly handed her the pill.
"Sawyer? It's me…it's Kali…" She trailed off, leaning down to whisper in his ear, as his body shook.
"I need you to take this pill, okay? Do it for me?" Kali exclaimed, as she gently placed the pill against his lips, giving him a drink of water afterwards.
"Yeah, there you go. That's good" Kali smiled, as Sawyer managed to swallow it down.
Kali leant down to press a soft kiss against Sawyer's sweaty brow, holding him close to her chest, as she wiped at her eyes with her other hand. Jack's forehead wrinkled as he watched the interaction, no doubt in his mind now how Kali felt about Sawyer.
"They teach you that in nursing school?" Jack questioned, as Kali's lips twitched into a smile.
"No…he's a special case" Kali replied, a soft look in her eyes as she looked down at Sawyer.
"They're gone" Kate announced, having left the room for only a few minutes while Jack and Kali had been getting Sawyer to take his antibiotics.
"He's gone after Ana Lucia" Kali sighed, as Jack's eyes widened.
"Ana Lucia?" He asked, with a shocked expression.
"You know her?" Kali inquired, as Jack nodded slowly.
"Well, she won't be alive for long. Sayid will make sure of that" Kali murmured, making Kate frown.
"What did she do?" Kate queried, as Kali took a deep breath.
"Shannon's dead. She killed her" Kali confessed, as Kate gaped at her.
"A-are you sure?" Jack questioned, beginning to pace.
"I saw it with my own eyes. It was an accident but…she still did it. I tried to get through to Sayid…but I guess it wasn't enough" Kali explained, as Sawyer stirred lightly against her.
"We have to go after him. Get the guns" Jack announced, looking to Kate.
"Wow, confident. I like that" A familiar voice exclaimed, as everyone turned to see a figure lounging in the doorway.
"Who the hell are you?" Jack asked, having never seen the man before, wondering how he had got into the bunker.
"Billy Kingston. You must be the Doc, nice to meet you" Billy greeted, as Kali rolled her eyes.
"I told you to stay with Ana" She grumbled.
"I wanted to make sure you got here okay" Billy admitted, with a small shrug.
"You know him?" Kate frowned, looking in between the two.
"Very well" Billy smirked, as Jack and Kate turned to look at Kali expectantly.
"…He's my ex" Kali admitted, reluctantly.
"Ex?!" Jack and Kate questioned at the same time, their jaws dropping open in shock.
