"So, you and the Good Doctor, huh?" Billy questioned, walking forward to lean against the bunkbed Sawyer was sleeping on.

"Excuse me?" Kate questioned, looking up at him from her chair.

"I saw that look he gave me when I offered to stay here. Guys got it bad" Billy chuckled, as Kate's forehead wrinkled.

"Your wrong" Kate insisted, turning back to Sawyer.

"Uh-huh, just like how Kali's not head over heels for this guy, right?" Billy suggested, crossing his arms.

"Why'd you offer to stay here?" Kate asked, watching as Billy's lips spread into a grin.

"Maybe I wanted to stir things up…or maybe I just fancy you" Billy shrugged, making Kate let out an indignant laugh.

"Fancy me? What, are we in tenth grade?" Kate scoffed, despite the blush that was spreading over her cheeks.

"Damn, I hope not. I was a little asshole in tenth grade" Billy stated.

"Kali still seems to think that" Kate blurted out before she could stop herself.

"…My whole life is a big pile of regrets, Kate. You want my advice? Tell your doctor how you feel. Before it's too late" Billy told her, pushing off from the bunk bed.

"Is it too late for you and Kali, then?" Kate frowned, as Billy went to walk past her.

"I wasn't talking about Kali" Billy muttered, confusing Kate further.

"The drips stopped. He should wake up soon" Billy exclaimed, a moment later, gesturing to the bag of antibiotics that had finished.

"I still don't understand where this medication even came from" Kate pointed out.

"Someone knew we needed the antibiotics. That means they've been watching us. Makes you wonder what they might do next…" Billy trailed off, as Kate turned to him.

"What do you mean?" Kate questioned.

"How many guns have you got?" Billy asked.

"Enough" Kate replied, simply.

"You keep them in the hatch?" Billy inquired, as Kate nodded slowly.

"Guess I'm gonna' be sticking around here then" Billy mumbled, before leaving the room.

Shannon's funeral was as depressing as Kali had expected, with Sayid only being able to say a few words before his emotions choked him up. She had wanted to run after him as he fled, but Kali knew Sayid wouldn't appreciate someone seeing him at his lowest point. Whatever Kali was going to say to Shannon as a goodbye had been washed away the moment she found out Boone was alive. Crazy, but alive. She was still debating whether to tell the rest of the group about Boone but expected half of them wouldn't even believe her. Boone had told her she couldn't trust anyone. Did she really believe that? There was only one person on the island that she trusted with anything and everything and he was in no state to listen to her secrets.

"You okay?" Jack questioned, as they walked down the dark corridor of the hatch.

"Not really" Kali sighed.

"Hey, Sawyer will be okay. He's a fighter…a bit like a cockroach" Jack pointed out, as Kali shook her head fondly.

"I'll tell him you said that when he wakes up…but it's not that. It's this place. I don't know, it gives me the creeps" Kali informed him, feeling a shiver go down her spine as she quickened her pace.

"It does seem a bit out of place in the middle of a jungle" Jack agreed, as Kali shook her head.

"…This is gonna' sound weird but it's almost like I recognise this place…" Kali trailed off when she heard a loud alarm going off.

"What the hell is that?" Kali frowned, as Jack was racing towards the control room.

"It's the countdown. Kate?!" Jack cried, rushing over to the computers.

"I need some help in here!" Billy's voice boomed from the bedroom, as Kali was rushing to the sound of his voice a moment later.

Her eyes widened when she saw Sawyer on the floor, with Billy crouched over him, a panicked look on his face. Kali was frozen to the spot, as she was terrified for a split-second that he could have been dead. When she saw his tanned chest rise shakily as she approached, she couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.

"What the fuck, Billy?!" Kali exclaimed, as she grabbed Sawyer's shoulders and helped pull him onto her lap.

"I don't know, okay? I was in the computer room when I saw Kate suddenly running out, I came in here and found him like this" Billy replied.

"Help me get him back on the bed" Kali ordered, as Billy nodded quickly, moving to grab Sawyer's legs.

They managed to hike him back onto the bunk bed easily enough, as Sawyer let out a low groan. He might have been in pain, but it was a good sign. Kali did a quick check of his body but couldn't see he had any new injuries.

"Thank God" Kali mumbled, running her fingers through Sawyer's blond locks.

"Where's Kate?" Jack exclaimed, rushing into the room.

"She just ran out. Didn't say a word and-" Billy began, but Jack cut him off.

"And you didn't go after her?" Jack accused, making Billy scoff harshly.

"I said I'd look after him. Not your girlfriend" Billy retorted, watching Jack's jaw tense.

"…I'm going after her. She couldn't have gone far" Jack announced, a moment later.

"Yeah? Well, when you do, keep her out of my way" Kali snapped, as Jack let out a sigh, but left the room, nonetheless.

Kali came out of the bedroom a few hours later to get a drink and was surprised to find a group had gathered in the control room. Locke, Eko, and Michael were all watching a film from a nearby projector and seemed to be completely engrossed in it, not even noticing her approach.

"Kali!" Jin exclaimed excitedly, coming out of the bathroom.

"Hey, look who's a free man" Kali grinned, seeing that they must have found a way to finally unlock the cuffs around Jin's wrist.

"You…?" Jin trailed off, holding his thumbs up.

"Yeah, I'm good" Kali nodded, holding her own thumbs up.

"G-good" Jin replied, practising the strange new word.

"Thanks for watching my back out there, Jin. I know you probably can't understand all this but…I owe you" Kali exclaimed, as Jin gave her a small smile.

"Team…Raft" Jin stated, his accent thick, making Kali laugh.

"Hey, Kali. How's Sawyer doing?" A voice questioned from the control room, having spotted her.

"Are you sure you care, Michael?" Kali retorted, crossing her arms.

Eko looked in between the pair, feeling the tension grow in the room. No one had told the rest of the group what Michael had done yet. None of the survivors from the tail section felt it was their place to say, and Kali seemed unsure yet of what she was going to do. She was well aware Michael would be rejected from the group if she told them he had left her for dead…but she was also sure he'd find his way back in. Weasels tended to do that, Kali thought to herself.

"You guys watching porn or something?" Kali announced, as Locke practically choked at the accusation.

"…It's the movie left behind by the man who had been living here" Michael informed her, needing a few moments to recover.

"Is it to do with that loud countdown?" Kali guessed as Locke nodded.

"We input the code every two hours and the countdown restarts. We should add you to the roster soon seeing as you've been staying here" Locke pointed out.

"What's the code?" Kali questioned.

"A set of numbers. 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 28, and 42" Locke went on, as Kali's forehead wrinkled.

"They seem random. Has anyone tried to figure out what they mean yet?" Kali asked as the men all looked at each other.

"…I'll take that as a no" Kali said, raising an eyebrow.

"If Desmond couldn't figure them out after-" Locke began, but Kali was quick to cut him off.

"What did you say?" Kali frowned.

"I was just saying if Desmond-" Locke started again, but Kali shushed him with a wave of her hand.

"The guy that was living here…his name was Desmond? Your sure?" Kali insisted as confusion washed over Locke's face.

"Yes, I'm sure. Is it important?" Locke asked, seeing how Kali had paled at the mere mention of the man's name.

"…I do recognise this place…" Kali realised, with wide eyes.

The men watched as Kali's rushed out of the room, into the large common area and made a beeline for the record player. She was practically shaking as she reached out to turn the record player on, as they all followed her.

"Make your own kind of music…" Kali whispered, only just loud enough for the others to hear, as the record player made a scratching sound

But you gotta make your own kind of music,

Sing your own special song,

Make your own kind of music,

Even if nobody else sings along—

Kali was quick to move the stylus away from the record, not needing to hear anymore. Her breathing was heavy as memories flashed behind her eyes. The dream she had on the raft. The one with the sad bearded man who had been in the strange room…with that record player. That was Desmond?

"How did you know it was going to play that song?" Locke frowned, his interest piquing.

"I…I need some air" Kali muttered, before rushing past the group.

Kali didn't stop running into the jungle until her legs were too tired to carry her any further. She dropped to her knees, not caring as mud stained her trousers. She was close to hyperventilating at that point, running a hand through her hair. What the hell was happening on the island? Since when did she have dreams about strange men she hadn't even met? And where did Desmond go? Her meltdown was cut off as she heard shouting from nearby and slowly pushed herself to her feet. She was found the source of the commotion soon enough, her jaw dropping open when she saw it was Kate and Jack. Kissing.

"Wow, Jack. It really looks like you're giving her a piece of your mind" Kali scoffed, making her way out of the undergrowth.

"Uh…I…we were just…" Jack stuttered, pulling away from Kate instantly.

"Yeah, I know what you were 'just' doing. I'm not twelve" Kali stated, crossing her arms, as she approached them.

"Kali, I'm so sorry for running out earlier. I just…I couldn't cope. I feel like I'm losing my mind" Kate told her.

"You ever do something like that again and I'll make sure you lose a lot more than just your mind, got it?" Kali insisted as Kate nodded, with tear-filled eyes.

"Is Sawyer okay?" Jack inquired.

"Yeah…you should get back to the hatch, Jack. Me and Kate need to talk. I'm guessing in private" Kali informed him, as Jack turned to Kate.

"Maybe I should…right, okay. I'm going" Jack mumbled, backing off when he saw the looks Kali and Kate were giving him.

"I thought you wanted a fresh start with us, Kate" Kali stated as soon as Jack was out of hearing distance.

"I thought…I think I was hallucinating. Sawyer said something to me…but it wasn't Sawyer, it was…" Kate trailed off, barely able to get her words out.

"Who?" Kali insisted, watching Kate let out a long sigh.

"The person I killed. The reason why I was with the Marshall on the plane" Kate explained.

"Kate, you just said this person is dead. They can't hurt you" Kali pointed out.

"Well, clearly they can" Kate retorted, a pained look in her eyes.

"Who was it?" Kali questioned, watching Kate bite her lip.

"My…my mother's boyfriend. I set his house on fire…with him inside" Kate confessed, as Kali's eyes doubled in size.

"…I'll admit I didn't see that coming" Kali mumbled.

"You can't tell anyone-" Kate started, but Kali was quick to cut her off.

"Hey, don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. I'm not going to tell anyone" Kali promised her.

"I…I guess Sawyer reminds me of him" Kate admitted, in a quiet voice.

"Then that shows how little you actually know Sawyer," Kali told her.

Kali found herself back at Sawyer's bedside soon after that, already feeling guilty for leaving him. Anxiety coursed through her veins as she wondered why he still hadn't woken up. His fever was breaking, and his breathing was normalising. He should have been up and talking by now.

"C'mon, sleeping beauty. I'm missing your snarky comments…you need to wake up" Kali insisted, moving so that she was sitting on his bed.

"Something happened at Shannon's funeral. And all I wanted to do after was talk to you, but your…" Kali trailed off with a sigh, placing her hand on Sawyer's clammy shoulder.

"I still need you, James. So please…please come back to me" Kali insisted, shaking her head when she saw he made no sign of being able to hear her.

She leaned down with a sad expression and placed a kiss against his forehead, feeling tears well in her eyes. She pushed herself up quickly as she rubbed at her eyes, sniffing lightly. She was so sick of crying. Biting her lip, she stood up and began to make her way out of the room, needing to splash some cold water on her face.

"…Was someone kissing me?" A rough voice mumbled, quietly.

Kali whipped her head around instantly to see Sawyer's eyes fluttering open, as he wet his lips. She was by his side in an instant, kneeling on the bed beside him as she loomed over Sawyer.

"Sawyer?" She cried, placing her hand against his warm cheek.

"Am I in heaven?" Sawyer grinned cheekily, making Kali giggle.

Before Sawyer had time to react, Kali had practically leapt on, letting out an excited squeal as she did so. Sawyer could barely breathe as she hugged him tightly, her arms wrapped around his shoulders, laughing to herself.

"I knew you'd come back. I knew it" She smiled, resting her head in the crook of his neck.

"It'll take more than a little bullet to kill me, blue eyes," Sawyer told her, his arms linking around her waist.

Neither of them were sure how long they stayed like that for, just holding each other. Sawyer could feel a dampness on his shoulder and realised that Kali must have been crying. He smiled as he moved his hand up to cradle her head, his hands brushing through her soft hair. Oh yeah, he had missed this, he thought to himself. All of a sudden, Kali was pulling back, a furious expression on her face, as she began hitting his good arm.

"Ow! What was that for?" Sawyer cried as she continued hitting him again.

"Don't you ever do that to me again! I thought…if you almost die again, I'm gonna' bloody kill you!" Kali exclaimed, as Sawyer burst out laughing.

His shoulders shook as he continued laughing, wincing a moment later when he felt pain rip through his shoulder. He looked down to see a bandage where his bullet wound had been and found he was connected to a bag of fluids. He wasn't sure how Kali had managed it but…

"…You saved me" Sawyer exclaimed, raising his hand to brush away a few tears on Kali's cheek.

"Well, it was a team effort" Kali mumbled, sharing his expression.

"Am I in a bunk bed?" Sawyer realised, his eyes darting around the strange room.

"It's a long story. What's the last thing you remember?" Kali asked, as Sawyer mulled over this for a moment.

"We were in the jungle…I told you to leave me. Huh, guess you never were much good at listening to me, were you?" Sawyer chuckled, making Kali frown.

"Wait, that's all you remember? What about being here? You've been in this bed for over a day…you really don't remember any of that? Anything you said?" Kali asked, feeling her heart drop.

"…Shit. What did I say?" Sawyer inquired, seeing the strange expression on Kali's face.

"Hey, whatever I said, or did, I didn't mean it. I swear Kali, I was completely out of it" Sawyer insisted, watching Kali turn away from him.

"It's, uh…it's not important. Really. I better go get Jack, he'll-" Kali was cut off as Sawyer reached over to place his hand over own.

"We're good, right?" Sawyer queried a hint of panic in his voice, clearly thinking he had said or done something horrible to Kali while he had been in and out of consciousness.

"We'll always be alright, Sawyer. Come whatever" Kali told him, turning her palm over to squeeze his hand for a moment.

"…But Jack is really gonna' want to see you. We both know what he's like with his saviour complex" Kali stated, as she pushed herself up from the bed.

She didn't turn around as she slowly walked out of the room, taking a deep breath, as it felt like a vice was crushing her heart inside her chest. Sawyer didn't remember any of it. Not what they had both said, their kiss. None of it. Not that she expected he ever meant any of it. Kali still wasn't convinced Sawyer realised he had been kissing her. And even if he did, it clearly hadn't left much of an impression, Kali thought to herself sadly. She couldn't lose her friendship with Sawyer, she decided. It was the most important thing in the world to her. She couldn't do anything that might jeopardise that.

Only a few hours later, Sawyer was amazingly already on his feet, doing far better than they expected. Then again, if there was one thing Sawyer was, it was stubborn. He had become convinced that they had been saved and Kali would surprise him at any minute to show him they were back in civilisation. She knew that there was only one way to get him to really believe it. She soon found herself guiding him through the hatch, his good arm draped around her shoulder, bringing her close to his naked chest…which she absolutely refused to think about—

"Earth to Kali. Which way is it?" Sawyer questioned, when he saw how she had zoned out.

With a shake of her head, she sent them down the right corridor, and before long they were back out in the hot jungle. It was always a shock to the system stepping outside the hatch, as it was far hotter outside. Not to mention almost blinding, despite the coverage the nearby trees gave them.

"Home sweet home" Sawyer sighed, as Kali helped to lead him over to a nearby log.

"It's not so bad. Hey, at least we have a shower now" Kali pointed out, coming to crouch opposite him.

"Oh golly, all my prayers have been answered" Sawyer replied, sarcastically.

His forehead wrinkled as he watched a smile grow on Kali's lips, her eyes kept darting from his face to his hair.

"I got something on my face?" Sawyer suggested, as Kali shook her head, biting her lip.

"You look like you've been run over by a truck" Kali giggled, ushering to his unusually pale complexion and messy hair, that had grown far too long.

"You sure know how to kick a guy when he's down, don't you, blue eyes?" Sawyer stated.

"Nothing a little haircut can't fix" Kali grinned at him, as Sawyer's eyes widened.

"You've just been dying to get your hands on my hair from day one, haven't you?" Sawyer scoffed, as Kali gave him a mischievous smile.

"Oh c'mon, just a little bit here and there…maybe a buzzcut…" Kali said, bursting out laughing when she saw the horror in Sawyer's eyes.

"Would you keep still?" Kali rolled her eyes, as she attempted to cut Sawyer's hair the following day.

She had managed to get him to the beach without much trouble and was glad to be away from the hatch. Kali still hadn't told Sawyer about her dream yet and wasn't sure if she should. Would he believe her?

"What, you ain't got a clean enough shot at my neck?" Sawyer muttered, turning to her.

"Quit being such a baby" Kali scoffed, placing her hands on either side of his face to keep him facing away from her.

"You sure you know what you're doing?" Sawyer queried, frowning when he got no reply from Kali.

"…You have cut hair before, right?" Sawyer asked, a moment later.

"Does shaving the hair off my barbies when I was a kid count?" Kali replied, causing Sawyer's eyes to widen.

"You don't think that was something you should have mentioned before?" Sawyer exclaimed.

"Don't worry, dimples. You'll still look pretty once I'm finished with you" Kali grinned.

"Yo, Sawyer. Glad your back man" Hurley nodded towards him, a genuine smile on his face.

"…Uh, yeah. Right" Sawyer mumbled, awkwardly.

"I think that's the fifth person to say that to you today. Everyone loves you now, huh?" Kali teased.

"Well, we both know you love me the most" Sawyer replied, as Kali shook her head fondly.

"You really can't stand people actually liking you, can you? Maybe even caring?" Kali suggested, finishing up with his hair.

"Just leads to disappointment in my experience" Sawyer stated, as Kali opened her mouth to argue.

"Hey, man. Glad you're okay" Michael announced, walking up to them.

The man clearly seemed to regret his greeting a second later, as the pair turned to give him icy glares. Sawyer practically bristled with anger; his hands balled into fists.

"Thought I told you we were done when we got back to camp, Mikey. Or have you forgotten that?" Sawyer muttered.

"I was just-" Michael began, but Kali was quick to cut him off.

"Well you can 'just' go away, asshole" Kali insisted.

"Are you going to tell people about…what I did?" Michael questioned, as Kali scoffed harshly.

"Oh, you mean about how you let me drown? Maybe I haven't decided yet" Kali responded, as Michael's jaw tensed.

"Look…I wanted to say I'm sorry. If I could go back…" Michael trailed off, looking down at his shoes.

"You'd do the same thing again. Because you're a coward, Michael. So kindly…fuck off" Kali told him, as Michael nodded and turned on his heel.

When Kali looked back down to Sawyer, she could see how he was grinning proudly at her. He had always liked this side of her, how he knew she could take care of herself.

"You want to see the finished product?" Kali inquired, grabbing a small mirror from where it had been laying against Sawyer's chair.

Sawyer nodded with a smile, surprised as Kali leaned over his shoulder's to hold the mirror in front of him, meaning that she was so close he could feel her breath on his neck and warmth of her body pressed against his back. Sawyer found his eyes darting from looking at his newly cut hair and the image of her face pressed against his shoulder.

"Not bad…for a beginner" Sawyer told her, realising he was yet to say anything.

"You've never looked better and don't even deny it" Kali teased, their eyes connecting in the mirror and lingering there for a moment too long.

"Hey, Kali!" A familiar voice boomed from behind them, as Sawyer pulled away from her embrace, but Kali kept herself hovering just over his shoulder's.

"Yeah?" Kali questioned, not bothering to turn to Billy.

"Nice ass" Billy smirked, letting his eyes trail over how she was bending over, giving him a good view of her backside.

Kali rolled her eyes angrily, whipping around to kick his leg, as the older man let out a yelp, resulting in him holding his middle finger up to her.

"What do you want, prick?" Kali exclaimed, crossing her arms.

"Just coming to see how the hillbilly's doing" Billy shrugged, as Sawyer turned to glare at him.

"I was doing just fine before you came along" Sawyer muttered.

"Well, nonetheless, I'm happy you're not dead. It would have been a real buzzkill" Billy went on, as Sawyer gave him a look.

"Gee, thanks" Sawyer rolled his eyes.

"If your looking for Kate, she's in the tent over there" Kali said, ushering down the beach.

"Oh, is someone jealous?" Billy grinned.

"You wish" Kali snorted, amused, as the smile slowly fell from Billy's face.

"…I, uh…I realised something earlier. I never apologised for everything I did to you. Not really. And…well, I guess I'm sorry. I should have never got you involved in my shit. You would have been better off never knowing me" Billy explained, causing Kali to frown.

"True…but life would have been a lot more boring" Kali stated, as Billy's lips twitched into a smile.

Kali's forehead wrinkled as Billy suddenly raised his hand out to touch her shoulder, squeezing it in a comforting manner, a sad look on his face.

"You okay?" Kali asked when Billy didn't move his hand away.

"I'm always okay" Billy told her, giving her a smile that didn't quite meet his eyes, as his hand fell away from her shoulder.

"You're a decent shot…then again it's not exactly hard to hit a pot of mayonnaise" Billy announced, as he walked towards the hatch, finding Michael and Locke outside, doing what seemed like shooting practice.

"Well, hopefully we'll never have to use these on moving targets" Locke suggested, as Billy scoffed harshly.

"You really believe that?" Billy asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You think you could do better?" Michael questioned, as Billy smirked at him.

"Hand me the gun" Billy said, holding his hands out, as Michael seemed reluctant for a moment.

He remembered how Kali had told them all not to trust Billy. Then again, if he really wanted to learn to shoot, the man in front of him seemed to be his best bet. The moment the rifle touched Billy's hand, he positioned it perfectly and raised it upwards, taking a deep breath. Michael and Locke's jaw's dropped open as Billy managed to shoot a piece of mango down from a tree that was so far away, they could barely see it.

"Why all the sudden interest in learning how to shoot?" Billy questioned, lowering the gun.

"When I find my son, I need to be sure I can protect him" Michael replied, as Billy seemed to mull over his answer for a few seconds.

"I think that's probably enough practice for today" Locke exclaimed, holding his hand out to take the gun back from Billy.

"You're right, Locke…I think that is enough" Billy nodded, his eyes snapping up to the older man's.

Before Locke had time to react, Billy had suddenly raised the gun and slammed the handle of the rifle against his skull. Michael backed up a few steps as Locke flopped to the ground, unconscious. He looked up fearfully at Billy, who had smirk plastered over his face.

"How would you like to go get your son, Michael?" Billy asked.

Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! I've not been feeling well this month, so sorry that this chapter is a bit late. Please leave a review:)

DrLexieSloan: I'm glad you liked it! Billy's got a choice coming up soon, and unfortunately, he's not very good at making the right decision. Thank you so much, I hope you enjoyed this update:)

scripturient321: All will be revealed later this season...to a degree, haha. I'm glad you liked the kiss:) It seems you were right about being suspicious of Billy. I think Kali's recognised that Kate is one of the closest people she has on the island, and can't really afford to lose that. Thanks for reviewing:)

carmelitajones: I'm glad you liked the ending, I loved the drama, haha. Thanks for the review!

Kz4: It only took 38 chapters for a kiss, haha. Things are going to get very complicated and intense where Boone is concerned. Thanks for reviewing:)
