Meanwhile, things had gone from bad to worse for the rest of the group, as they soon found themselves surrounded by Others. Jack and Locke were trying to hold their ground, but it became clear who was in control when Kate was pulled out of the darkness, tied up and with a gun to her head. They were going to need a miracle to get out of this one.
"Jack, the decision you've got to make right now is this. Can you live with the fact that I shot this woman right in front of you when you could have saved her life by giving up and going home? It's your call, Jack" The man announced, pressing his gun further against Kate's neck, who was practically shaking with fear.
Suddenly, a cascade of bullets was raining down on the group, as Sawyer came storming out of the trees, an angry look on his face. However, he too was soon overpowered by the group, who shot at his hand, causing him to lose his grip on his gun. With gritted teeth, Sawyer reluctantly raised his hands above his head, knowing when he was beaten.
"Now, that was very stupid of you, Sawyer. In fact…now I'm pissed. I'm gonna' count to three, Jack, and you better have made your decision. One…two…" The man trailed off, as Jack opened his mouth to respond.
"Three!" A familiar voice exclaimed from behind him, as the man felt something pressed to the back of his head.
"I should have known, where Sawyer is, his little bitch won't be far behind…" The man trailed off, as he turned to see Kali holding a gun to his temple
"Not very smart to offend someone with a gun to your head, asshole. Now, you're gonna' let my friend go, and drop your gun or I will empty the whole mag into your head" Kali warned, seeing the way the man's jaw tensed, but nonetheless he threw his gun away.
"Smart move" He gritted out, pushing Kate forward, where she practically fell into Jack's arms.
"…But now what, Kali? How're you gonna' get out of this one?" The man questioned.
"You're gonna' let us walk out here, with no problems…after you tell me what you did to Billy" Kali exclaimed, gripping the gun tightly in her hand.
"I don't know what-" The man began, as Kali smashed the gun down on his skull, watching him drop to his knees.
"I asked you a question" Kali insisted, her gun still aimed at his head.
"We didn't do anything to your boyfriend" The man argued, making Kali scoff.
"Are you gonna' make me count?" Kali mocked, repeating his words from only a few moments ago.
"It wasn't us" He insisted.
"Three…" Kali began, taking the safety off the gun, the man's eyes snapping up to hers.
"Two..." Kali went on, her hand steadier than ever, showing she wasn't bluffing.
"Alright, alright! I'm telling the truth! We have Michael, but he wasn't with anyone!" The man admitted, holding his hands up.
Kali's eyes found Sawyer's across the clearing, seeing the frown on his face, as they both questioned what this meant. She highly doubted the man at her feet would lie with a gun pressed to his head.
"Well, if it wasn't you guys, then who was he shooting at in the jungle?" Kali inquired, with a raised eyebrow.
"Where was this exactly?" The man asked, a frown growing on his face.
"Few miles back…there was something else there. It chased us off the path" Kali went on, watching his eyes widen.
"I told you what you wanted to know. We both want our people to walk away from this…you stay on your side of the island and we stay on ours" The man exclaimed, an urgency to his voice.
"As easy at that?" Kali questioned, confused.
"This area of the jungle ain't safe for anyone. My people are heading out" The man announced, as the torches suddenly began to go out one by one.
"…You've got yourself a deal" Kali nodded, dropping the gun to her side.
"Wait! What about Michael? We're not letting you take him!" Jack insisted, as the man slowly pushed himself to his feet.
"Michael wants to be with his son. Don't take that away from him, Jack" The man retorted, seeing how Jack grit his teeth.
"…What's a candidate?" Kali announced, as the man turned to walk away.
"What did you say?" The man queried, whipping around in confusion.
"Billy said I wasn't a candidate. A candidate for what?" Kali insisted as the man shook his head.
"That wasn't Billy" He informed her, before backing away into the shadows, leaving her with only more questions.
The next day, Kali and Sawyer were back on the beach, with her coaching him through exercises to strengthen his wounded shoulder. She knew he didn't like to bring it up, but the bullet wound was unsurprisingly still causing him a lot of pain. Every time he grimaced from the discomfort, Kali's heart hurt a little, hating to see him in any sort of pain.
"Where'd you learn all these exercises anyways?" Sawyer asked, as she helped him roll his shoulder back.
"I knew a cute physio" Kali shrugged, slowly stretching his shoulder out, feeling how his muscles tensed up.
"Tall, dark and handsome, was he?" Sawyer teased, as Kali shook her head, fondly.
"Who says it was a he" She smirked, seeing how Sawyer's expression went from surprised to curious in a few seconds.
"Now, this I definitely got to hear" Sawyer stated, wiggling his eyebrows mischievously.
"Hey guys" Hurley announced, giving them a friendly wave as he approached.
"What's up?" Kali questioned, seeing the way Hurley was nervously scratching the back of his neck.
"When you were over there across the island, how well did you get to know those tailies?" Hurley questioned.
"Well enough. Why?" Sawyer frowned, turning to look at the other man.
"That Libby chick seems pretty cool" Hurley shrugged, in a hushed voice, his eyes darting to where the woman in question was standing a little further up the beach.
"I mean…is she?" Hurley inquired, as Kali had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing.
"You got a little love connection brewing over there, Jabba?" Sawyer teased, smugly.
"No…just asking" Hurley mumbled, a small blush rising on his cheeks.
"Yeah, I hear you asking" Sawyer grinned.
"Forget it" Hurley blurted out, turning on his heel to run away.
"Wait, Hurley! Sawyer's just being a dick, pay no attention to him…no one else does" Kali whispered, with a teasing tone.
"Hey!" Sawyer exclaimed, holding a hand over his heart, with a mock hurt expression.
"Libby seems nice. She always treated us well when we joined her group. Not to mention she's pretty hot" Kali pointed out, nudging Hurley's arm.
"Oh…well…uh, I hadn't noticed that" Hurley murmured, looking down at his feet.
"Just go over there and talk to her. I'm sure you guys will hit it off" Kali insisted, as Hurley looked at her unsurely.
"But what do I talk about? I don't really know how to, you know…talk to girls" Hurley admitted, his blush growing darker.
"Earth to Hurley, you're talking to a girl right now" Kali laughed, knocking on his head a couple of times for good measure.
"Yeah, but your…you" Hurley shrugged, as she raised an eyebrow.
"What does that mean? You don't think I'm woman enough?" Kali pouted, crossing her arms.
"From what I've seen, your plenty woman, blue eyes" Sawyer whispered, leaning down close to her ear.
"Well, what about you two? How'd you get so comfortable with each other?" Hurley questioned, desperate for anything that could help him.
"I'm the only person who can put up with him" Kali shrugged, making Sawyer scoff.
"And vice versa" Sawyer added, slinging his good arm around her shoulder's, but Hurley still looked conflicted.
"Look, just go over there and compliment her. Women love that" Sawyer advised.
"And be just be yourself. No need to be a big flirt like this guy-" Kali started but was cut off as Sawyer placed his hand over her mouth, lowering his good arm to wrap around her waist, and went to drag her away.
"Don't listen to her, Jethro. Bigger the flirt, bigger the benefits" Sawyer smirked, as he pulled Kali across the sand towards their tent.
"Hey, Libby!" He yelled towards the blonde, as he ducked into their tent, pulling Kali in with him.
They both peaked through the tent flaps to see Hurley give Libby an awkward wave, as a smile spread over her lips. Hurley seemed to notice how she was struggling to carry a load of washing and rushed over to help her, as they began talking. Kali looked up to see Sawyer grinning happily, a fond look in his eyes, not seeming to realise he still had his arm wrapped tightly around her waist.
"Adorable" Kali exclaimed as they watched Hurley taking the bag of washing from Libby's hands, hauling it over his shoulder.
"Enough to make you sick" Sawyer scoffed.
"I meant you, dumbass. Pushing those two together…your going soft" Kali teased, as Sawyer looked away from the pair.
She was confused when she saw the way his forehead wrinkled, and suddenly he was pulling away from her, the smile disappearing from his face. She missed it already.
Sawyer's head was a mess when he trailed back from the hatch later that afternoon, rubbing a hand over his sweaty brow. Kali had hit a little too close to home with her comment. He was getting soft. That should have been clear from what he had said to Jack in the hatch…which he had begun to remember as soon as he stepped back into the large structure.
"Sorry man, I know this hurts. Kali said you pulled the bullet out with your bare hands, you'll have to show me how to do that sometime" He heard Jack joke, feeling cold hands touching his painful shoulder.
"Where is she?" Sawyer all but whispered.
"You mean Kali? She…she needed a breather. She's been looking after you for the past 24 hours, you know" Jack pointed out, as Sawyer's lips started moving on their own accord.
Jack's forehead had wrinkled as he leaned forward to hear better what Sawyer was trying to say. His eyes widened when he realised what the blond was repeating over and over again.
"I love her…I love her…" Sawyer trailed off, like a prayer.
Why the hell had he said that? It wasn't true…it couldn't be. He didn't get close to people, it never did any good. The last woman he had cared about, he had well and truly fucked up. He didn't want to make the same mistake again. Kali was his best friend. He couldn't lose her for some stupid idea his feverish brain had come up with. Of course he cared for her, there was no denying that, but love? They were friends, that was it. Sure, Kali was gorgeous, but so was every other woman on the island. He may have flirted with her constantly, but he did the same with anything with a pulse. That was just who he was.
"I'm not actually attracted to her—" Sawyer's mumbling was cut off, as he entered their tent, feeling like his brain had just short-circuited.
Kali was standing in the middle of the tent, clothes scattered all over the floor, with her back to him. Her bare back. The bruises that were there not so long ago, had began to fade, only a few remaining now, standing out against her creamy skin. Sawyer's mouth went dry as he allowed his gaze to roam over her, breathing harder than he was a moment ago. Kali quickly noticed the light coming in from the tent flap, and turned to see Sawyer staring back at her, his jaw gone slack.
"What? The bruises look better, don't they?" Kali frowned, looking down at her now healing back, holding her tank top over her chest, barely covering herself up.
"…Huh?" Sawyer gaped, his eyes everywhere but her face.
"My back. It looks better, right?" Kali asked, as Sawyer nodded slowly.
"Uh…yeah. It looks...fine…" Sawyer trailed off, barely hearing what she said.
"My eyes are up here" Kali exclaimed, trying to not laugh at how he was clearly checking her out.
"Um, what…why are you naked?" Sawyer questioned, finally averting his eyes to the floor.
"Hurley came by with a load of new clothes. Thought I should try something new" Kali shrugged.
"His date go well?" Sawyer inquired, still not looking at her.
"If the grin on his face was anything to go by…uh, Sawyer?" Kali spoke up, as Sawyer's eyes snapped to hers.
"Yeah?" Sawyer replied.
"You staying for the show or…?" Kali trailed off, indicating to how she was half-dressed.
"…Oh. Right…no…I'll, um…just be outside…" Sawyer stuttered, stumbling out of the tent a moment later.
Kali bit her lip at his awkward behaviour, allowing a small giggle to fall from her lips. She quickly changed into the sparkly halterneck top that had caught her eye, realising that she might never have the occasion to wear a pretty outfit again. Strolling over to the tent entrance, she pulled back the flap to find Sawyer, running a hand through his hair, mumbling to himself.
"Why are you being weird?" Kali frowned.
"I'm not being…" Sawyer trailed off, the words dying in his mouth.
His jaw dropped open as he looked down at Kali, as she twirled around the give him the whole view of the shirt, which was much more revealing than most of the clothes she wore. She smiled at the way the older man seemed speechless for once.
"…Damn, blue eyes" Sawyer chuckled, a nervousness to his voice.
"Don't worry, I got something for you too" Kali grinned, rushing back into the tent before coming out with a pink shirt a few seconds later.
She unfurled the shirt, placing it in front of Sawyer, who saw that it was an NSYNC shirt and rolled his eyes. She burst into a fit of giggles, clearly happy with her choice.
"It's definitely your colour" Kali teased, as Sawyer brushed her hands away.
"Why'd someone bring a shirt like that on the plane anyways?" Sawyer questioned, watching her shrug.
"Guess someone's a secret fan. Who do you think…my money's on Locke" Kali giggled, as Sawyer smiled down at her.
Kali's forehead wrinkled as Sawyer failed to reply, his hand suddenly coming up to brush her hair behind her ear, a fond look in his eyes. Kali felt her heart beat a little faster at this action, noticing how his fingers lingered longer than needed. A moment later, he seemed to come out of this strange trance, his hand dropping to his side, and his lips stretching into a thin line.
What was he doing? This couldn't happen…whatever this was. What the hell was he turning into? Helping Hurley with a girl, acting like a little schoolgirl with a crush? He was Sawyer. Sawyer, the Con Man. Kali had no idea who he really was, not deep down. He would only hurt her, better to stop this before they could get to that point. It was kinder. He needed to separate himself from her, from the whole group. They weren't his friends. They weren't his family. And he sure as hell didn't need any of them.
"Ow! Jesus Kali, stop that!" Charlie complained, trying to shield himself from where Kali was hitting him with a rolled-up magazine.
"You are such a bloody idiot!" Kali exclaimed, continuing her attack.
"…I'm guessing you heard then?" Charlie sighed, as she finally gave up.
"About how you tried to drown Claire's baby? Yeah, I heard" Kali scoffed, crossing her arms.
"I didn't…I was trying to save him. I know it sounds crazy right now, but…I don't know, I hadn't been sleeping, I was having these weird visions. I was just trying to help" Charlie explained, as Kali shook her head.
"Are you using again?" Kali queried, watching hurt flash over Charlie's face.
"Of course I'm not!" Charlie insisted.
"Then why have you been acting so strange?" Kali pointed out, as Charlie merely shrugged.
"It's this island, Kali. You and I both know it's…different. Maybe we're all slowly going crazy" Charlie mumbled.
"You know you've really set us Brits back fifty years from this stunt" Kali sighed.
"Yep. Everyone hates me" Charlie nodded, sadly.
"They don't hate you, Charlie. I mean, they don't particularly like you either…but it's not hate" Kali told him, making him scoff.
"I started the fire, you know" Charlie admitted, as Kali gave him a sad look.
"I figured. Someone could have got really hurt. Died even" Kali stated, as Charlie looked down at his shoes.
"I guess you were right. I am a bloody idiot" Charlie murmured.
"It's not too late to change. You can still make things right" Kali insisted, making Charlie frown.
"You really think Claire will forgive me?" Charlie inquired.
"Eventually…if you start acting right from now on. I'm serious, Charlie. No more stupid stunts. Or you're not gonna' get a free pass next time" Kali warned, as Charlie nodded.
"…You haven't seen Sawyer, have you? I haven't seen him for a while" Kali questioned.
"A while being more than ten minutes I'm guessing?" Charlie suggested, a teasing smile spreading across his lips.
"Yeah, yeah. Have you seen him or not, prick?" Kali rolled her eyes.
"Last I saw he was yelling at Jack for stealing some of his stash" Charlie confessed, watching her let out a long sigh.
"I'm going to kill those two one day" Kali groaned.
As Kali walked along the shore towards her and Sawyer's tent, she spotted the man in question sprawled out next to a giggling Kate. Walking a little closer, she managed to hear the end of their conversation, feeling a wave of jealously hit her.
"Everyone's got needs, Kate" Sawyer smirked, in a flirtatious tone.
"Not everyone is like you, Sawyer" Kate chuckled.
"I guess that's why El Jacko and Ana-Lulu didn't ask me to join their revolution…What, you didn't hear about their little army? I guess I'm not the only one on the outs with the Doc" Sawyer suggested, watching a frown grow on Kate's face.
"The hell happened to our stuff?" Kali gaped, making her presence known when she noticed how her things were spread out on the sand.
"Take it up with the Good Doctor" Sawyer huffed.
"Has Jack asked you to join up?" Kate questioned, curiously.
"Nope. I think he figures anything that Ana Lucia is involved in, ain't for me" Kali muttered, as she came to sit down beside Sawyer.
However, as soon as he spotted what she was doing, Sawyer was on his feet, opting to loom over Kate instead. Kali found this action a little strange but decided not to comment on it.
"I don't think Jack feels the same way. In fact, I think he wants to get more than a little friendly with Lucy" Sawyer went on, as Kali gave him an unimpressed look.
"Whatever, Sawyer. I'll see you around, Kali" Kate announced, pushing herself to her feet, a sad look on her face.
"Why are you trying to stir things up with Jack and Kate?" Kali inquired, once the brunette was out of hearing distance.
"Got to get my kicks from somewhere" Sawyer shrugged.
"Don't ruin this for them, Sawyer" Kali insisted, making Sawyer scoff harshly.
"Right. I guess that's all I'm good for, huh?" Sawyer muttered, leaning down to pick up some of his clothes sprawled on the sand.
"I didn't mean it like that. What's got your panties in such a bunch, anyway?" Kali inquired, as Sawyer didn't give her a reply.
"Okay, fine. Be weird…" Kali trailed off, as she went to walk away.
"Hold up a second!" Sawyer exclaimed, now turning around to face her.
"Yeah?" She questioned, hoping for an explanation.
"I ain't cleaning your shit up" Sawyer informed her, chucking the halterneck top her way.
"Damn, you really woke up on the wrong side of the tent this morning, didn't you?" Kali scoffed, trying to keep the hurt off her face.
"Not in the mood for the commentary right now, Princess" Sawyer murmured, as Kali crossed her arms.
"Guess I'll just come back and clean my 'shit' up later then" Kali exclaimed, throwing the top into her case and turning away.
"Just wait a second-" Sawyer cut himself off, as it began to pour it down all of a sudden, making Kali groan.
"Son of a bitch" Kali cursed, holding a hand up to shield her face from the onslaught.
"C'mon, get under here" Sawyer exclaimed, reaching out to grab her wrist, as he pulled her into the tent when she made no sign of moving.
The two stood there in uncomfortable silence for a few minutes before Kali couldn't take it anymore. Since when was there anything uncomfortable between them?
"…You know, this is the part where you'd usually make some comment about me being wet?" Kali stated, raising an eyebrow at him.
Despite himself, Sawyer's lips twitched into a smile for just a moment before the mask was back on. He was sticking to his plan. He was doing this for Kali, even if she didn't realise it. All of a sudden, the pair heard an ear-splitting scream coming from inside the jungle, everything else instantly forgotten. Kali was rushing towards the sound a moment later, with Sawyer hot on her heels. The cries continued for a few seconds, before cutting off mid-scream, making Kali run even quicker. It wasn't long before they found a body lying on the floor of the jungle, Kali's hand flying to her mouth when she saw who it was.
"Sun!" She gasped, rushing to the older woman's side, and turning her over.
Her heart dropped when she saw a bleeding wound on her head, and instantly knew Sun had been attacked. She leaned down to check Sun was still breathing and was relieved to hear her shallow breaths.
"She alright?" Sawyer asked, panic in his voice.
"She's breathing. Sun? Sun, can you hear me?" Kali exclaimed loudly, near her ear.
"Sun, you need to wake up. C'mon!" Kali insisted, pinching the woman's shoulder, grimacing when she saw she wasn't even responding to pain.
"We need to get her to Jack" Kali announced, as Sawyer nodded quickly, picking the small woman up bridal style.
"Was she conscious at all?" Jack questioned, as the pair lowered Sun into his tent.
"No. She's not responding to voice or touch. She's got a laceration on her forehead, but I can't see any other wounds. Resp rate is about fifteen, pulse is sixty-five and steady" Kali explained, as Jack began to examine her body.
A panicked cry quickly grabbed Kali's attention as she saw Jin sprinting towards them, a terrified expression on his face when he saw his wife's motionless body. Kali reached out to hold him back, knowing that Jack needed to be able to properly assess her first.
"Jin, wait…중지" Kali told him, using one of the only Korean phrases she knew.
Jin shook his head vehemently, tears beginning to well in his eyes, as he tried to reach out for Sun again. His heart was breaking seeing his wife in such a state.
"Jin, please. Let Jack do his job…c'mon" Kali insisted, ushering him to back up a few steps, as he reluctantly did as he was told.
"Where did you find her?" Jack questioned.
"In the jungle. She was out cold and her hands were tied" Sawyer replied, as Jack's eyes snapped up to his.
"What do you mean her hands were tied?" Jack gaped, dumbfounded.
Jin seemed to understand a little of what had been said, as Kali felt him tense beside her, and raised her hand out to place her hand on his shoulder, hoping to comfort him a little.
"They're back" Ana Lucia announced, dramatically.
Unsurprisingly, after this, the whole camp was sent into a panic, as Ana Lucia suggested going back to where they had found Sun with guns. Which Locke luckily shot down quickly, knowing it could only escalate things. Jack looked ready to snap at any moment, and the last thing Kali thought he should have been given was a gun. Sawyer suggested to her that they search by themselves where Sun was found, which Kali agreed to, not understanding why anyone would want to attack the older woman.
"I seriously doubt we'll find anything. These Others are smart, they're not gonna' leave a trail" Kali pointed out.
"It's worth a look. Let me ask you something. This whole scenario make sense to you?" Sawyer questioned.
"…No. We made a deal with the Others, for them to break it so soon for no reason…something's not adding up" Kali agreed, as Sawyer seemed to spot something.
Kali followed his gaze, her eyes widening when she saw it was a woven hood, which had most likely been used in Sun's attack, on the end of a tree branch.
"The Others put a hood over Kate's head when they grabbed her, right?" Kali queried, watching Sawyer nod.
"Yeah, but not one like this. This one's black, different weave. It's all in the details - and they're wrong" Sawyer explained, as Kali raised an eyebrow.
"We didn't even see the hood, how'd you know so much about it?" Kali frowned, making Sawyer shrug.
"Talking to Kate. She was pretty shaken up after it-" Sawyer began but was quickly cut off by Kali.
"And you wanted to be her shoulder to cry on, huh?" Kali asked, jealously clear in her voice.
"I think we've got more important things at hand right now. Like if it wasn't the Others, then who was it?" Sawyer went on.
"Someone who wanted this hood found…" Kali trailed off, in deep thought.
"Why'd you say that?" Sawyer inquired.
"Please, it being left out in the open like this, on the top of some branch? Coincidence? I don't think so" Kali mumbled.
"Not much upside to scaring the crap out of 46 people…unless you're trying to con them into joining an army" Sawyer stated, watching Kali's eyes widen.
"Sounds like something a trigger-happy Ana Lucia would do, doesn't it?...Or you actually" Kali pointed out, her eyes snapping up to his, as Sawyer huffed.
"I was with you, remember" Sawyer scoffed, crossing his arms, grimacing as pain shot up his shoulder.
"Shit, are you okay? Carrying Sun back to camp must have hurt like a bitch with your shoulder" Kali sighed, reaching out to touch his arm, as he pulled away.
He hoped he had successfully distracted Kali from wherever her mind had just been headed. Reminding her that he was still hurting should have been enough to keep her focusing on him and not his intentions.
"I'll live" Sawyer retorted, rubbing at his arm, as Kali grabbed something from her pocket and threw it his way.
Sawyer frowned when he saw it was the pain medication that Jack had stolen from their tent that morning and wondered how Kali had gotten it. Why was she always looking out for me, Sawyer thought to himself.
"Snuck into Jack's tent a few hours ago…I've still got your back, even if you don't want me to" Kali admitted, not expecting a reply, as she went to walk away.
"Kali, wait…" Sawyer called out, as she stopped in her tracks, turning around to face him halfway.
"You're right. I don't want you to have my back. Not anymore. I know that you think we're friends but…you don't know me. Not really-" Sawyer began, but Kali stopped him from going any further.
"I know enough" Kali insisted, but Sawyer shook his head.
"You wouldn't like the real me," Sawyer snapped, watching Kali's eyes softened.
"…We should get back to camp. We're too out in the open here" Sawyer announced, his jaw tense, as he went to walk past her, leaving her more confused than ever.
Much to Kali's relief, Sun soon woke up, with a small concussion, but nothing serious. She couldn't tell them much more than they already knew, having not seen her attacker at all. A small smile grew on Kali's face as she watched Jin hug his wife, relief obvious on his face. Kali knew without a doubt if he ever found the person who had attacked Sun, he'd make them pay. Leaving them to have a moment alone, Kali's eyes met Ana Lucia's from across the beach, sending a distrustful look her way. Ana grit her teeth at this action, as she began to storm over to Kali, ready to give the woman a piece of her mind.
"Do you want to hit me?" Ana announced, her jaw tense.
"Excuse me?" Kali scoffed, crossing her arms.
"I'll give you one free hit, but then you've really got to stop with the glaring" Ana went on, as Kali shook her head.
"You killed someone I cared about, Ana. One punch isn't gonna' make up for that" Kali told her, as guilt flashed over the woman's face.
"You will never know how sorry I am for what I did. I want to change. I want to protect our people" Ana explained.
"You want to be in charge?" Kali inquired, making Ana frown.
"What? No. I think it's obvious things didn't go well last time I was in charge…I just don't want to see these Other's hurt anyone else" Ana replied, as Kali nodded slowly.
"…You didn't attack Sun did you?" Kali asked, with a sad expression.
"No. I didn't" Ana told her, as Kali searched her eyes.
"I believe you" Kali sighed, wishing she didn't.
"You don't seem happy about it" Ana pointed out.
"Things would be a lot easier if I could just blame every bad thing on you" Kali admitted, looking across the beach to see Sawyer and Kate sitting next to each other.
Sawyer spotted her a few seconds later, patting Kate on the shoulder as he stood up, letting his hand linger there. Once he was marching down the beach, Kali made her way towards Kate, a bad feeling settling in her stomach.
"You two seem cosy recently" Kali announced, as Kate's brow furrowed in confusion.
"What? You've got the completely wrong idea, Kali. I swear" Kate told her, but Kali still didn't seem convinced.
"Then why have you two been so attached at the hip today?" Kali pointed out, as Kate stood up, ushering her to walk with her.
"Sawyer and I think this has all been Ana Lucia's ploy to get the guns. I've sent Sawyer to the hatch to warn Locke before she can get to them" Kate explained, in a hushed voice.
"Kate, it's Jack that's been more insistent on getting the guns than Ana, haven't you noticed that?" Kali stated.
"You think Jack attacked Sun?" Kate scoffed, not believing it for a moment.
"No, of course not. I don't think either of them did…" Kali trailed off, noticing how Charlie was rushing towards the jungle, where Sawyer had just fled only minutes ago.
Kali had a feeling Charlie hadn't heeded her advice about not doing anything stupid, but there was only one way to find out. She really hoped she was wrong.
It was dark by the time Charlie led Sawyer to the guns, who had been stuck pushing the button for Locke most of the afternoon. They were all so easy to manipulate. From Kate, to Locke, to Jack. Everything had gone perfectly. He had originally planned for Kali to take Kate's place, but it was clear that Kali wasn't buying his theory. Besides, seeing him hanging around with Kate so much had only helped in pushing her further away. He had got everything he wanted. Charlie soon left him, not caring about the guns, only about seeing Locke's embarrassment, and hastily made his way back to the beach. This left Sawyer on his own once again, just how he liked it.
"You were right" A familiar voice announced, as Sawyer's eyes widened, whipping his head around.
He saw Kali standing a few metres behind him, her jaw tense, as her eyes darted between him and the pile of guns. Even in dim light from his torch, he could see the angry tears in her eyes, and felt his chest grow tight. She knew.
"I wouldn't like the real you" Kali spat out.
