Kali looked out at the waves, the moonlight glistening on the water's surface as Sun came to sit down beside her. She was fidgeting with the pregnancy test in her hands, looking more nervous than Kali had ever seen her. It was understandable. Being pregnant on the island was a terrifying idea, with barely any medical assistance available.

"It hasn't changed yet. Have I done it wrong?" Sun questioned, biting her lip.

"It's pissing on a stick, Sun. You can't really go wrong" Kali chuckled, as Sun gave her a look.

"Sorry, humour's my only defence mechanism. How're you feeling about all this?" Kali inquired, a moment later.

"I…I'm sure it will be negative. It must be" Sun mumbled, an almost pleading tone to her voice.

"You'd be a good mum," Kali told her, nudging her shoulder a little.

"…My relationship with Jin has been…rocky in the past. Having a baby with him is the last thing I would have wanted a year ago" Sun confessed, causing Kali's eyes to widen.

"Is that why I'm here and not Jin?" Kali guessed as Sun nodded.

"What did you tell Sawyer when he saw what you wanted?" Sun asked, clearly wanting to change the subject.

"I told him Jack and I did the dirty in the hatch. You should have seen the look on his face…priceless" Kali giggled to herself.

"He didn't ask who the test was really for?" Sun questioned, watching Kali shrug.

"He knows I wouldn't tell him. Just like I wouldn't tell anyone where he's stash is" Kali replied, as a thoughtful expression grew on Sun's face.

"He trusts you and you trust him" Sun muttered, blinking quickly as tears began to grow in her eyes.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Kali frowned, reaching out to touch her arm.

"It's just…you and Sawyer have more trust than my husband and I" Sun pointed out, sadly.

"Relationships are hard…and messy. I don't know what happened with you and Jin in the past, but I know he loves you. That means something, right?" Kali stated as a small smile grew on Sun's face.

"I'm guessing you have forgiven Sawyer for taking the guns?" Sun suggested, making Kali scoff.

"I'm still pissed at him. He really let me down, almost screwed everything up between us…but I just can't stay mad at him for some reason" Kali exclaimed, as Sun laughed lightly.

"What?" Kali asked, confused.

"I think I know why" Sun grinned, as Kali rolled her eyes half-heartedly.

"Two minutes is up. Moment of truth" Kali told her, ushering down to the pregnancy test still in Sun's hands.

Kali's eyebrows shot up as she saw the two clear pink lines on the test, the smile on her face faltering when she saw Sun didn't seem pleased. Whatever had happened in the past must have put more strain on their relationship than Kali had first thought.

"It's impossible" Sun mumbled, as Kali quirked an eyebrow.

"We're marooned on an island, running away from monsters in the jungle and being picked off one by one by the Others…an unplanned pregnancy sounds like the most normal thing I've heard for a while" Kali stated, as Sun's brow furrowed.

"You can't tell anyone. Please. Not even Jin" Sun begged, as Kali let out a long sigh.

"Jin's my friend. I won't tell him…but you should" Kali insisted, as Sun shook her head.

"It's complicated. " Sun told her.

"Do you love him, Sun?" Kali asked, as Sun's eyes snapped up to hers.

"…Yes. I do" Sun replied, as if realising it herself.

"Then I think you know what to do" Kali exclaimed, placing her hand on Sun's shoulder, and giving her a comforting squeeze.

Kali was walking across the beach the next day when she spotted a crowd was gathering nearby Sawyer's tent. The blond had been avoiding her at all costs since their 'incident' in the Jungle, much to Kali's own amusement. He couldn't run away from her forever and they both knew it. As she sauntered closer, she could see a makeshift table had been set up, with Sawyer, Jack, Kate and Hurley playing cards on top of it. Jack quickly spotted her in his peripheral vision, as a smirk grew on his lips.

"Come join us, Kali" He exclaimed, ushering her over.

"What's going on?" Kali questioned, coming to stand beside Sawyer, close enough that she could feel the heat coming off his body.

"Jack's beating us at poker" Hurley informed her, as Kali quirked an eyebrow.

"Beating you at poker, you mean" Sawyer scoffed.

"Alright, deal me in" Kali stated.

"You don't even know how to play" Sawyer muttered, not liking the mischievous glint in her eyes.

"I'm a fast learner" Kali grinned, leaning down a little, bringing her face close to his.

"Do what the lady asked, Sawyer" Jack insisted, as Kali's eyes flickered to his for a moment, wondering why he seemed so insistent on her playing.

"Budge up then," Kali said, nudging Sawyer's shoulder as she crouched down to share his seat.

Sawyer's jaw tensed, as she all but pushed him off the box he was sitting on, her leg pressed up against his own. A smug expression grew on Kali's face at his reaction, as she placed her hand on his thigh, causing Sawyer to grit his teeth.

"This is gonna' be fun" Kali smirked, as Sawyer let out a grunt.

"Dude, you got me" Hurley sighed, throwing his cards down onto the table.

"I'm out" Kate exclaimed, as they all looked to Kali, who was still shuffling her cards in her hands.

"She folds" Sawyer added, grabbing her own cards, and chucking them onto the table.

"Cheat" Kali huffed, annoyed that she had lost every hand so far.

"Sue me, sweetheart" Sawyer retorted, with a satisfied grin.

With a roll of her eyes, she elbowed him in the stomach, knocking him off from the box. He had been teetering on the edge for the last few minutes, trying to get away from the heat rolling off her body. Cursing under his breath, he was quick to pick himself up, dusting the sand off his jeans, hearing Jack chuckling to himself.

"Think that's funny, Doc?" Sawyer muttered as he ushered for Kali to move over so he could share the seat.

"Yeah, I do actually" Jack grinned, looking far too amused.

"You want to take up any more space?" Sawyer grumbled, as Kali only let him sit on the edge of the box.

"Would you prefer it if I sat on your lap?" Kali asked, in a hushed voice, amused as she saw Sawyer's cheek begin to flush.

"C'mon, man. Stop stalling. Call or fold" Jack insisted, as Sawyer slowly pulled his eyes away from Kali's.

"You think you're in my head, Doc?" Sawyer questioned.

"Don't need to be when your face is an open book" Jack mocked, as Kali had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing.

"Oh, is that right?" Sawyer huffed, with a glare directed at Jack.

"Maybe you should let Kali look at your cards. She might be able to help you play" Jack went on, as Kali's eyebrows shot up.

"Anyone else finding the amount of testosterone at this table suffocating?" Kali announced, as Kate giggled.

"My thoughts exactly. C'mon, Hurley. Let's leave these boys to their sandbox" Kate said, ushering for the man to follow her as she stood up.

"C'mon then, show me your cards" Kali insisted, reaching out to grab the cards from Sawyer's hands.

"I don't think so" Sawyer scoffed, raising his arm up, out of her reach.

With a mischievous look on her face, Kali moved over so that she was straddling the older man, reaching up to grip his arm. She had both legs pinned against either side of Sawyer's hips, her arm that wasn't grabbing for the cards, now wrapped around his shoulders to help balance herself. Sawyer's brain seemed to malfunction for a moment, heat pooling around his groin, as his cards slipped from his fingers, falling into the sand. Kali's own head had now caught up with her actions, realising how close their faces were, her eyes dropping back to his lips.

"Looks like I win" Jack announced, as Sawyer's eyes flickered to behind Kali's head.

"W-what?" He stuttered, uncharacteristically.

"Kings wired" Jack smirked, placing his own cards on the table.

"I never called!" Sawyer insisted, as Jack shook his head.

"Well, you looked like you had your hands full" Jack pointed out, gesturing to where Kali was still straddling him.

She then reached down to pick up his cards, which were two queens and raised an eyebrow. Grabbing his hand, she placed the sandy objects into his palm, watching the way his chest was rising quicker and quicker.

"Should have let me help you out" Kali pointed out, as she pushed herself off his lap.

Jack didn't miss the shaky breath Sawyer let out as she pulled away, her hand trailing over his shoulder as she left. He really was an open book, Jack thought to himself, another laugh escaping his lips.

"One more hand, Doc. What's it gonna' take?" Sawyer asked, running a hand through his hair.

"The medicine you stole from the armoury. All of it" Jack replied, as Sawyer slowly nodded.

Twenty minutes later and the next hand hadn't gone much better for Sawyer, who had already bet half of the medicines he had stashed. The blond's eyes widened when Jack announced he was all in, ready to bet everything he had won so far.

"Well, that's the move of a man who wants me to lay it down" Sawyer suggested.

"You're not gonna' lay it down" Jack shook his head, as Sawyer's brow furrowed.

"And why's that?" Sawyer questioned.

"Because Kali's watching us right now and you don't want her to see you lose. Again" Jack goaded, as Sawyer's eyes flickered over to the girl in question, who was indeed watching from further inland.

"I think you overestimate how much I value her opinion" Sawyer retorted, as Jack quirked an eyebrow.

"You know, I used to think it was you that had her wrapped around your little finger. Now, I see it's the other way round" Jack challenged, watching Sawyer's jaw tense.

"Bullshit" Sawyer exclaimed.

"Hey, man. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I just never took you for the whipped kind—" Jack began, as Sawyer cut him off quickly.

"I call" He announced, through gritted teeth.

A smug smile grew on Jack's face, as he threw his cards onto the table, proud of how well his plan had worked. Sawyer's eyes darted from the cards back to Jack's face when he saw the pair of nines on the table.

"You pushed in with a pair of nines?!" Sawyer gaped.

"You caught me. Let's see them" Jack insisted, as Sawyer dropped his cards onto the table with a groan, knowing Jack had won.

"Guess it was enough, huh?" Jack mocked, pushing himself to his feet, picking up his rucksack.

"Son of a bitch" Sawyer cursed, angrily.

"Thanks for the supplies, Sawyer. I'm sure Kali will help you bring them back to the hatch—" Jack began, but was cut off by a voice that boomed from behind him.

"Oh, will she now? And where exactly are you gonna' put the meds? In 'Henry's' bed?" Kali challenged.

"Sawyer is the last person on this island who should have control of our medicines" Jack replied.

"Well, it's a good thing he doesn't have control then. I do" Kali told him, as Jack frowned.

"What?" He asked, as Kali crossed her arms.

"He already gave me all the medicines last night. So they weren't actually his to bet, which I guess means…I win" Kali explained, as Jack huffed.

"You two really are meant for each other" Jack mumbled, shaking his head, as a smile ghosted on his lips.

"…Why'd you lie?" Sawyer questioned, once Jack was out of earshot.

"I've still got your back" Kali shrugged, as a fond look grew on Sawyer's face.

"So, Henry's not Henry, then? Shocker" Kali mumbled, looking up from the couch in the hatch.

It was crazy how quickly she could fall out of the loop after not visiting the hatch for a couple of days. Unbeknownst to her, Sayid, Charlie and Ana Lucia had gone off into the jungle to find evidence to verify Henry's story. In a twist, they had instead found evidence that proved the exact opposite. They had found a grave dug nearby the hot air balloon Henry had told them he travelled in, but it was not his wife instead. Instead, it was a black man, with his neck broken. There was no doubt in Kali's mind that the Other's had killed this man, quite likely it was their mystery man himself who was the murderer. How else would he know Henry Gale's story so well? Meanwhile, while they were trekking through the jungle, the hatch had gone into some sort of lockdown, with a large metal door impaling Locke's leg. For some reason, the Other hadn't left his side during this and instead seemed to help him.

"For all we know the only thing he could have lied about is his name" Locke announced, as Kali scoffed harshly.

"Jesus Christ, John. Has that wound on your leg affected your brain? He's an Other. They're all liars. We can't trust anything they say" Kali insisted.

"Kali's right. The only reason he didn't run was because he thought his story was going to check out" Jack added.

"We should stay away from him. Just lock him in the armoury, and let him rot" Kali went on, as Jack's eyes darted to the floor.

"…What?" Kali frowned.

"Sayid and Ana are in there now—" Jack began, as Kali was already walking away with a groan.

She came to a sudden halt when she entered the armoury, only to see Sayid with his gun raised at 'Henry', who's arms had been tied above his head. Ana's eyes flickered to Kali's, obviously not sure what she should do.

"You have three seconds to answer my question. How many of you are there?" Sayid questioned, watching 'Henry' shake.

"I…I can't…" 'Henry' stuttered, eyes wide.

"One" Sayid exclaimed, his voice steady.

"He'll kill me!" 'Henry' cried, his eyes finding Kali's.

"I'll kill you! Two!" Sayid replied, as Kali realised he wasn't bluffing.

"Sayid!" Ana gaped, as Sayid took the safety off the gun.

Still, Kali stayed quiet, her eyes never leaving 'Henry's', who now seemed to be begging for his life. She knew she should step forward and stop Sayid, but a darker part of her pointed out it would be the end of their problem. One bullet to the head and 'Henry' would be gone.

"I know the truth!" 'Henry' announced, his eyes on Kali, and Kali only.

In one swift motion, Kali had grabbed Sayid's arm just as he pulled the trigger, as a bullet flew into the wall. She twisted his arm behind his back roughly, forcing him to drop the gun, which fell easily into her hands.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Kali questioned, her hands still gripping Sayid's wrist, as she whipped her head around.

"Your parents. I know what really—" 'Henry' cut himself off, as Kali pushed Sayid away from her, marching forward to now press the gun against 'Henry's' forehead.

"You want to live? Then stop talking" Kali warned, her shoulders tense.

"He's a liar!" Sayid exclaimed, coming to stand beside her, his hands balled into fists.

"I know…and your gun rights are officially revoked by the way" Kali retorted, as Sayid turned on his heel in a huff, storming out of the room.

Kali was quick to usher Ana Lucia out of the armoury, not wanting to hear anything else that 'Henry' had to say. She didn't even turn around as she pulled the door closed, engulfing the older man in darkness.

"What the hell happened?" Jack gaped, having heard the gunshot.

"Nothing. Don't worry our friendly neighbourhood Other is still alive" Kali told him, as she walked over to Sayid, who was now pacing in the kitchen.

"Come to scold me again?" Sayid guessed, as Kali let out a long sigh.

"Look, I'm sorry, okay? I don't mean to…I know I can be pretty condescending sometimes. I just worry about you" Kali explained.

"I'm fine" Sayid shook his head, as Kali's eyes softened.

"You're drowning in grief, Sayid" Kali insisted, watching him stop his pacing.

"…I am right about him" Sayid replied, as Kali nodded.

"I know. Look, I'll hold the fort here. You go cool off" Kali exclaimed, placing the gun on the kitchen counter.

"Minus my firearm?" Sayid suggested, as Kali gave him a pointed look.

"I'll give it back to Jack. I don't think either of us should be around guns" Kali mumbled, as Sayid grunted in agreement and began to walk away.

"You were gonna' let him shoot him" Ana Lucia's voice boomed from behind her, as Kali turned to face the older woman.

"So were you" Kali scoffed, as Ana's eyes dropped to the floor, filled with guilt.

"What did he mean about your parents?" Ana Lucia queried, watching Kali still instantly.

"It's none of your business. And you still owe me for the other night by the way…but I might have just come up with a way for you to make it up to me," Kali told her, a wicked look on her face.

If she was going to make Sawyer see her as more than a friend she knew she needed to be bold. No more mixed signals. Kali was going to have to go after what she wanted and damn the consequences. Life was too short, especially on the island.

Sawyer rolled his neck from side to side as he sauntered down the long corridors inside the hatch, his eyes looking out for whoever he was supposed to relieve from hatch duty. A frown grew on his face when he found no one in the kitchen and was about to start searching the bunks when he heard a sound come from the bathroom. Cautiously, he ventured over to the closed door, reaching behind his back for his gun. He was hit by a wave of steam as he ripped the door open, his eyes widening as he saw who was inside. For the second time that week, his brain came to a complete halt as he watched Kali walk out of the shower, clad in only a tower that finished at the top of her thighs.

"Hey" He exclaimed, weakly.

"You here for hatch duty?" Kali asked, tucking the towel in above her cleavage.

"…Uh, yeah. Ana Lucia came to get me…but, um, seeing as you're here, I'll just, I'll go…" Sawyer stuttered over his words, backing up a step.

"You sure? The water's still hot?" Kali pointed out, quirking an eyebrow.

"Uh-huh…" Sawyer trailed off, watching a line of water run down Kali's neck, as his tongue darted out to wet his lips.

"Besides, we need two people here for hatch duty remember" Kali pointed out, getting no response.

"Earth to Sawyer…you mind closing the door?" Kali asked, as Sawyer nodded quickly, sliding the door closed.

"I kind of meant with you on the other side of the door…but okay" Kali smirked, as Sawyer nodded again, his eyes roving over her body.

"Oh…right. Yeah, I'll go…I'm going" Sawyer repeated, turning around with gritted teeth.

Kali couldn't stop the laugh that left her lips, as she watched Sawyer knock his head against the door, having tried to open it so quickly. The grin only grew on her face as he closed the door behind him, a string of curse words leaving his mouth. It looked like Ana Lucia had done her job perfectly, Kali thought to herself.

With her hair still damp, Kali was pleased to see Sawyer sitting on the couch, riffling through a deck of cards. She flopped down on the couch beside him, far closer than she needed to be, and quirked an eyebrow at him.

"You need some practice" Sawyer shrugged, as a small smile grew on her lips.

"How about we raise the stakes a little?" Kali questioned, as Sawyer pursed his lips.

"What do you have in mind, blue eyes?" Sawyer inquired, turning to her.

"Strip poker" She replied, as Sawyer's mouth went slack.

"What?" He gaped, making her giggle.

"I went to college, remember. The only poker I ever played was strip poker" Kali explained, as she grabbed the deck of cards from his hands and begun to shuffle them.

"What are you doing, Kali?" Sawyer asked, his tone soft.

"…I already know what you're thinking and I'm showing you that you're wrong" Kali exclaimed, as Sawyer's forehead wrinkled.

"About what?" Sawyer asked, genuinely confused.

"That what happened in the jungle was a mistake. Just a heat of the moment kind of thing—" Kali began, as Sawyer cut her off.

"Because it was" Sawyer replied, making Kali roll her eyes.

"I've wanted to kiss you since I met you on the plane" Kali admitted, her eyes not leaving the cards she was shuffling.

"You don't mean that," Sawyer told her, as she threw the cards onto the table, now forgotten.

"Don't tell me what I feel, Sawyer. I'm not a bloody child" Kali complained, her eyes snapping up to his.

"You're nineteen. That's close enough" Sawyer retorted.

"I see the way you look at me. You're the only one who's confused about their feelings" Kali insisted, leaning closer to him.

"You're my friend—" Sawyer started, but she stopped him once again.

"I want more than that, James…and I know you do too" Kali went on, her voice low.

"What do you want from me, Kali?" Sawyer sighed, unable to match her gaze.

"…A kiss" Kali replied, mulling it over for a moment.

"A what?" Sawyer gaped, his eyes wide.

"To prove once and for all that there's nothing between us" Kali added, as Sawyer scraped his teeth over his lips.

"And then we go back to just being friends?" Sawyer suggested.

"It'll be like this never happened," Kali said, with half-lidded eyes.

"It would mean nothing…" Sawyer trailed off, his eyes dropping to her lips.

Kali nodded, almost excitedly, reaching out to touch his chest, feeling his heart beating quickly. Sawyer's mouth felt dry all of a sudden, his breathing shallow, as he closed his eyes. He pressed his lips against hers lightly, capturing her bottom lip, his hands limp at his side. Kali's eyes slowly fluttered open as she felt him pull away, disappointment flowing through her. Maybe it really was all in her head—

Suddenly Sawyer's lips were crashing into hers, one hand gripping her hair, and the other wrapping around her waist. He coaxed her mouth open, as their tongues collided, causing Kali to inhale sharply. In response, Sawyer lowered his hand tangled in her hair to the small of her back and pulled her onto his lap, making her gasp. Kali could feel his heart was now thumping madly under her palm, her other hand snaking through his blond hair, as she deepened the kiss. Sawyer couldn't stop the moan that escaped him as she tugged on his hair, finally pulling him back to reality. As he pulled away, all he could hear was his blood rushing in his ears and the sound of them both panting.

"That was nothing?" Kali laughed, with a smug smile.

"Oh, hell" Sawyer mumbled, his accent thick.

Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! They kissed, thank God for that. I was listening to Friends and Into it by Chase Atlantic while writing this chapter so you can blame them for that ending, haha. Sorry that this chapter is a bit shorter or rushed, but I'm about to work five shifts in a row (being a nurse isn't so great right now), so I wanted to get this chapter finished before then. Please leave a review:)
