"Ugh... what?" He spawned. Opening his eyes, he found a blinding light, pulling a hand over his face just to wake properly. Slowly sitting up, he found himself surrounded by grass and flowers blowing from a gentle breeze, along with some insects feasting on leaves of said flowers for their midday snack.
"Okay, I'm almost certain I wasn't napping in a field." He stated groggily, now getting on his feet to examine his surroundings. Taking it in, he found a forest directly in front of him, what appeared to be a desert far to his left, to his right more grass and trees, and behind him, far off in the distance was a land of white and blue.
"What?" Obviously confused, he stared off into the white land, now seeing it to be a massive mountain capped in snow, even from how far it was.
"Hey there!" Jumping at the foreign voice, the "Newborn" spun around, drawing a copper blade from seemingly nowhere, and pointed it to the disturbance.
"GAH! I'M FRIENDLY, I PROMISE!" Shouted the now cowering man. Confused, the sword was lowered slightly, one question ringing in his mind.
"Where am I?" He asked the stranger.
"That's a copper short- oh, you're in the land known as Terraria! And I am your guide, Andrew!" He explained, now jumping back to his feet with an oddly happy tone.
"Terraria. Why does that name sound familiar?" Our still nameless stranger questioned.
"As your guide, I'm here to help you survive in this cruel world. As such, I advise building a shelter to protect from the unwanted creatures that roam in the night." Andrew stated, obviously eager to get to work.
"Right, another question: where did we come from? I'd book it for the hills by now, but I have no memory from before waking up here." Worry seemed to dawn onto him, as he felt like he forgot something important. Something that you shouldn't forget because of its importance. Something-
"I've got no idea. I woke up, same as you, and started wandering around the place. That's when I found you looking around like a lost child." His reply came, though the last part earned a slight glare from the mysterious man.
"Alright then Andrew, the name's Duke. As far as I'm aware, I'm not ruler of anything so don't ask why the oddness of my chosen birth-tag. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna start chopping down these trees.. with this axe.. that came from nowhere…?"
"Yeah this place is weird, but I'll answer any question that pricks your side!" The Guide stated, much like a child oozing with the eagerness to get home and play.
And with that, Duke went through his day chopping down trees and replacing them with their kin, small saplings that may one day outgrow their ancestors. Andrew helped with crafting recipes, as the home required walls, chairs, tables, and more necessities to survive the night. There was also Duke's encounter with a small green blob, no bigger than half below the knee bouncing towards the two.
"Woah, what is that?" Asked Duke, having the sudden urge to touch the creature.
"That, my friend, is a green slime. These fellas may look cute and squishy, but get too close and they'll boun- OI, YOU DIDN'T LET ME FINISH!"
Muffled screams escaped Duke as he ran around with a slime now attached to his face. Adding to the comedic scene, his Guide was chasing him around to try and peel the sticky thing off, though exactly how he hadn't a clue. That's when Andrew remembered something, and whipped his bow from nowhere and lasered the green menace with a swift wooden arrow, knocking it off Duke's slightly tanned face.
"Alright, you're dead you cheeky bastard!" Enraged by the unwarranted (and slightly terrifying) attack from the slime, Duke equipped his sword, seemingly coming from thin air, and charged the slime. With a jump, the slime aimed for his face, but Duke was faster and managed to slide under, stabbing the slime through its underbelly, spewing its guts and effectively killing it.
"Sayonara, Slime.." He said as he stood back on his feet, sheathing his shortsword with shadows over his eyes.
"Pfft, just wait till night, zombies stronger than that slimy there roam about freely, so I suggest we get back to work." The Guide said, trying to not laugh at the seriousness in the face of the Slime Killer.
Returning to his task at hand, Duke constructed the foundation of their home, building with both speed and ease, completing what'd take a team of 10 men an entire week in under 4 hours. And just in time too, as his beautifully crafted mansion rose just as the sun began to set, with him marveling at his creation.
"Honestly, I think this is my greatest creation yet." Duke said, with a tear in his eye.
"Good thing you've just started." Stated the Guide flatly with a stale look on his face. The "mansion" Duke had just created was in reality a small wooden box roughly 10 blocks in all directions and a door unevenly placed in the front, worsening the overall look of the house and the OCD of the Guide.
"Right? Imagine how much better I can get!" Duke said with growing ambition for future projects.
"Practice makes perfect. Or whatever is close to perfect. Anyway, I'm getting an uneasy feeling already so board up the door and prepare for a long night." Warned Andrew with a certain uneasiness that didn't go unnoticed by Duke. He on the other hand didn't see such a big deal about the night. Of course, he believed zombies were simple creatures that needed no attention as they would burn up in the daylight and leave feathers upon death. This however, was a world that was as unforgiving as it was merciless, and Duke would find out later that night as a blood stained moon rose over the horizon, casting its crimson paint over the land below it.
THOOMP
"Ugghhhhh leave us alone!" Groaned Duke, though this plea was lost in the sea of louder groans and even louder banging coming from behind their wooden door, which was blocked off by 3 wood blocks.
"Told you it'd get bad." The Guide said on the far side of the one room box.
"Yeah ok it's bad, but will it always be THIS bad?" Duke wondered with exhaustion.
"I wouldn't think so." Said the Guide, who was now walking towards a dirt bed. "In case you missed it, there is a Blood Moon overhead. For some unbeknownst reason, the monsters come out far more frequently during this, as well as some that are found only during this event. And amazingly, your wooden box has kept us alive this long, so you have my praise" Andrew finished with gratitude. In turn, Duke looked back at the blocked door from his seat next to the table. What EXACTLY is out there? He thought to himself. Just a peek wouldn't hurt, right? If anything, this should better prepare me for the next night as I can get a glimpse of these creatures. Looking back, Andrew was now dozing off on the dirt ground, though with slight difficulty from the noise outside. Alright, just a peek.
Walking to the door with his pickaxe in hand, he readied his new Wooden Sword in the other, preparing to fend off any mutant slimes that may appear and break through the crowd. He raised his pick, and stared at the top block with worry. Here goes nothin'!
Thomp
Pop
"Huh?" This questioning sound escaped Duke, as before him was an empty but open door. He removed the other two blocks and peeked his head outside, clenching his sword harder than ever with his heart pumping in his throat.

A/N: Yo! If you've read this far, that probably means you've read my FanFiction and didn't burn your phone at the absolute trash you've just read. I do plan on making this story last longer than a couple chapters, maybe something around 15, but I've still gotta get the layout and patchwork done. Finally, please leave some feedback! This is my first ever FanFiction so anything counts, especially an expansion of my vocabulary. Till next time!
