Kali flopped down by the treeline, relieved it was finally time for her lunch break. She took a swig from the bottle of water she had been given and had a closer look at the sandwich that had been tossed her way. With a huff, she realised there was nothing inside the bread, but began to nibble on the sandwich nonetheless, absolutely starving. A clicking sound had her turning her head to see a stone being thrown her way, causing her to look around her surroundings. She let out a cry when a larger stone suddenly hit her in the side of her head, followed by a whispered 'sorry'. Kali whipped around to find a young girl hiding in the nearby bushes, a guilty expression on her face.

"You people really need to work on your introductions" Kali grumbled, throwing the rock back towards her, hitting the brunette's arm.

"Be careful. Don't let them see you talking to me" The girl warned, as Kali turned to see if anyone was watching her, but they were too busy with their own tasks.

"I've got a better idea, how about I just ignore you all together" Kali mumbled, taking another bite from her sandwich.

"Are they keeping you in the cages? Did you see another boy there, my age, named Karl? Please…I'm worried about him" The girl insisted, as Kali pursed her lips.

"Sawyer said there was a kid there, but he tried to escape. I don't know what happened after that" Kali admitted, watching fear grow behind the younger girl's eyes.

"Dammit, Karl. Why did you run?" She sighed, running a hand through her hair.

"It's not exactly cosy in those cages, mate. I'd run if I had half a chance" Kali stated.

"Where'd you get that dress?" The brunette inquired.

"They gave it to me" Kali replied.

"It's mine" The other girl exclaimed, as Kali quirked an eyebrow.

"Huh, I thought it smelled funny" Kali teased, making the girl giggle lightly.

"I'm Alex…your Kali, right?" She asked, earning a curt nod in return.

"So, what did your boyfriend do to get thrown in those cages?" Kali questioned.

"I…I never said he was my boyfriend" Alex blushed, biting her lip.

"I saw the look" Kali grinned, as Alex gave her a small smile.

"My dad would never let it happen" Alex shrugged.

"Who's your—" Kali began, but was cut off by a loud voice, making her flinch.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Pickett yelled, marching over to her.

"Eating. It's called lunch break for a reason, dumbass" Kali retorted, as Pickett grit his teeth.

"You were talking" Pickett frowned, looking at the treeline where Alex had been seconds before, now nowhere to be seen.

"Maybe I was spitballing how I plan to kill you" Kali shrugged, watching him tense.

"Break's over. Give me that water" Pickett insisted, as Kali pushed herself to her feet.

"Sure thing" Kali replied, before dropping the water on the ground by his feet, giving him a satisfied smile.

"Alright, that's it—" Pickett began, grabbing the taser from his side when a female voice cut him off.

"Danny, she's just trying to rile you up" Juliet warned, coming to stand beside Kali.

"And it's working" Kali grinned.

"Any more trouble out of you today and I'll break your damn leg, got it?" Pickett insisted, as Kali made a gesture of zipping her lips shut.

With a huff Pickett leaned down to grab the water, before storming off, as Juliet had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing. Kali was already proving to be as much trouble as her brother, to no one's surprise.

"He means it, you know" Juliet stated, as Kali nodded.

"Then why keep doing it?" Juliet frowned, watching as Kali's eyes flickered to Sawyer for a moment before she shrugged.

"Because it keeps him off James' back, right?" Juliet realised, earning no response.

"Thanks for the help earlier, by the way. I thought you might have been a half decent human being, but I guess I was wrong" Kali muttered.

"You were going to shoot my friends" Juliet pointed out.

"Sounds like you need better friends to me" Kali scoffed, as Juliet let out a long sigh.

"Just try not to cause anymore trouble, okay?" Juliet insisted, as Kali held her hands up in mock defence.

"When have I ever?" Kali replied, the sarcasm clear in her voice, as Juliet felt her lips twitch into a smile.

The next morning, Kali and Sawyer had been given a bucket of water and some new clothes to change into, much to their relief. Kali made quick work of wiping away the dirt covering her face, enjoying the cold feel of the water in the blazing heat. A bruise was blooming on her cheek from where Pickett had struck her the day before, but she barely felt it. They had bigger problems to deal with.

"Ready for another day in paradise, blue eyes?" Sawyer called over to her, cleaning his dirty hands in the water.

"It's already feeling like home sweet home" Kali replied, with a teasing grin.

She then pulled her dress over her head, leaving her in just bra and panties and started to wipe down her legs. She was quick to register eyes on her, looking up to see Sawyer staring at her, his mouth gone slack. Despite being covered in dirt, she was pleased she could still make the blond's mind come to a halt.

"Quit checking me out" Kali exclaimed, noticing how he licked his lips, coming out of his trance.

"I'm just gazing…respectfully" Sawyer retorted, making Kali roll her eyes.

"You know, I'm a big believer in equality, Sawyer…" Kali trailed off, quirking an eyebrow, as he quickly got the message.

"Well, when you put it like that" Sawyer grinned, as he started unbuttoning his shirt, revealing his tanned chest.

A mischievous look grew in Kali's eyes as Sawyer's hand went to his jeans, pulling the zipper down, and revealing his V-line. Before he could take the striptease any further, a loud alarm started blaring, almost deafening the pair. They rushed to pull their new clothes on, a little creeped out by how well the clothes fitted. Just as Kali was zipping up her jeans, a group of Others were rushing past them, all with panicked looks on their faces. Only a few seconds later, a blonde was whisked past them on a stretcher, her abdomen bleeding profusely as Kali realised it was Pickett's girlfriend. Juliet was placing her hand on the wound, as blood spilled over her fingers, a terrified look on her face. It looked like Juliet had never seen someone in such a way before. Ben ushered them past the cages, his eyes connecting with Kali's for a moment, making her frown. She had feeling they hadn't brought the injured woman past the cages by mistake. Did they really expect Kali to feel sorry for them?

"You think one of our people did that?" Kali gaped, as Sawyer nodded.

"They ain't in the business of shooting each other" Sawyer pointed out.

"I think we may have just got our ticket out of here" Kali announced, as Sawyer's lips twitched into a smirk.

"What's the plan, boss?" Sawyer inquired.

"Follow my lead" Kali exclaimed, knowing it wouldn't be long before they got a visitor.

Pickett came marching towards her less than twenty minutes later, his hands balled into fists, a determined look on his face. Kali raised her arms out to lean against the bars, quirking an eyebrow as he came to a halt in front of her cage.

"You're gonna save her" Pickett told her, as Kali let out a harsh scoff.

"Oh, am I now?" Kali replied.

"You think I'm playing games?" Pickett growled, taking his gun out of its holster.

"Well, I hope not. Your girlfriend looked like she was about to croak—" Kali began, as Pickett slammed his fist against the metal bars that separated them.

"Shut your mouth!" Pickett exclaimed, as Kali held her hands up in mock defence.

"What's wrong, Pickett? Do you feel helpless? Does it hurt?...I'm pretty sure it's called karma" Kali shrugged.

"She hasn't done anything to you! You need to save her, you have to!" Pickett insisted, as Kali pursed her lips.

"You're sounding pretty desperate…enough to make a deal with the enemy?" Kali inquired.

"What kind of deal?" Pickett frowned.

"You let Sawyer go and I'll save your precious girlfriend" Kali suggested, seeing the shock register on Pickett's face.

"What the hell are you doing?" Sawyer exclaimed from his cage.

"How long do you think she has left? Thirty minutes? Twenty? Trust me, bleeding out…it's a hell of a way to go—" Kali went on, as Pickett held his hand up to stop her.

"He wouldn't get far" Pickett pointed out, as a twig snapped nearby.

"Well put, Danny. Especially considering you would never think of betraying me…right?" Ben announced, coming into view, his big eyes on Pickett.

"I can't let her die, Ben" Pickett insisted, as Ben nodded slowly.

"I'm sure we can find another way of making Kali compliant. Would you like to go back to the lab?" Ben questioned, turning his attention to the girl in question.

"As long as we stop off at the morgue first. You know that's where your girl's heading, right?" Kali told Pickett, whose jaw clenched at the comment.

"She's trying to get into your head, Danny" Ben warned, as Kali shrugged dismissively.

"Are you sure you can live with yourself? Knowing you could have saved her?" Kali exclaimed.

"Stop it" Pickett hissed, raising his gun up towards her.

"Her blood is on your hands, buddy" Kali said, as Pickett's finger itched to pull the trigger.

"That's it! You're gonna…" Pickett trailed off, when he looked down at his belt to look for the keys to her cage, frowning when he found his key to the cages was missing.

"What is it?" Ben asked, noticing the look on his face.

"Missing something?" Kali grinned, as Pickett's eyes grew wide.

He watched as Kali's eyes snapped to something behind him, realising a second too late what she had been doing. Keeping them distracted. Pickett whipped around with his gun raised, to find Sawyer charging forward, having used the keys they had stolen to silently let himself out of the cage.

"Here, catch!" Sawyer called out, throwing something shiny towards Pickett.

Instinctively, the man held out his arms to stop the object from hitting him, dropping his gun to the floor. He let out a growl when he realised Sawyer had only thrown the keys at him, not a weapon as he had expected. Before Pickett had the time to react, Sawyer had slammed his fist into his face, sending him flying onto his back. Sawyer then lunged down to grab the gun, taking the safety off and raising it towards the man on the floor.

"I'll be taking those" Sawyer smirked, leaning down to easily rip the keys from Pickett's hand.

He then threw the keys towards Kali, who was already holding out her hand to catch the object. With a smug expression, Kali made quick work off unlocking her cage door, shoving it open and coming to stand beside the blond. Pickett went to pick himself up, but Kali instantly raised her leg out, shoving him towards the ground with her foot.

"Stay down, or you get two between the eyes" Kali warned the older man, who raised his hands up, knowing when he was beaten.

"Well, aren't you two quite the team" Ben muttered, as Sawyer turned the gun towards him.

"We like to think so" Kali replied, smugly.

"It's a shame not everyone in your group is such a team player" Ben retorted.

"What the hell does that mean, bug-eyes?" Sawyer scoffed.

A second later, he felt something hit him in the back and was flopping to his knees as an electric pulse ran through his body. Ben acted immediately, lunging forward to grab Sawyer's gun, now turning it on him and Kali. The girl in question twisted around to find Kate standing a few metres away, a taser in her hands and a guilty expression on her face.

"What the fuck are you doing?!" Kali yelled at her

"They said they were going to kill Jack—" Kate began, as Kali saw Juliet rushing towards them, her clothes splattered with blood.

"You really think they'd kill the only doctor on this island?" Kali huffed, as Kate looked down to the ground.

"I couldn't risk it. It's Jack" Kate insisted.

"We could have escaped! We could have—" Kali started, but was cut off by Kate this time.

"Left us" Kate retorted.

Kali stilled at this, realising she hadn't paid much thought to Kate and Jack while she was planning their escape. Her priority had been Sawyer, it always was. But as she watched Sawyer convulse on the ground, she found any guilt disappearing. She wouldn't forget this.

"We don't have time for this! Colleen isn't going to make it for much longer. Are you really going to let an innocent woman die?" Juliet exclaimed.

"None of you are innocent" Kali spat out, as she crouched down to touch Sawyer's shaking body.

"Are you okay?" Kali asked, pulling him up into a sitting position, brushing his sweaty hair out of his eyes.

"Just peachy" Sawyer groaned, through gritted teeth.

"Kali, please. I need your help" Juliet insisted, a pleading tone to her voice.

"Then accept the deal. Colleen's life for Sawyer's" Kali retorted, as Sawyer gave her an angry look.

"Don't you dare—" Sawyer cried, but was cut off by Juliet's voice.

"Deal. If she lives, I'll personally get him back to your group" Juliet promised, and for some reason, Kali felt she could trust the blonde's word.

"That's not your decision to make, Juliet" Ben warned, as Juliet turned to glare at him.

"Do you want Colleen to die?" Juliet snapped.

"I'm not leaving without you" Sawyer stated, as Kali let out a sigh.

"They only took you to keep me in line. You're expendable to them. They'll kill you" Kali told him, as Sawyer reached out to grab her hand.

"I don't care" Sawyer replied, as Kali leant forward to press their foreheads together.

"…But I do" Kali exclaimed, pressing a quick kiss to his lips, before pulling away.

She went to stand up, but Sawyer kept his grip tight on her wrist, not wanting her to go. They needed to stick together. That was the only way they could survive. Juliet was quick to grab hold of Kali's arm, giving a hard tug to pull her away from him, as Sawyer was still weak from being shocked once again.

"If anyone touches a hair on his head while I'm saving your girlfriend's life, I'll shoot her myself" Kali warned, her words directed at Pickett who was picking himself off the floor.

Sawyer tried to follow the brunette, but a hand grabbed his shoulder a second later, pulling him to his feet. Sawyer turned to see Ben giving him a satisfied smile, a plan seeming to grow behind his eyes.

"It's time you and I had a talk…in private" Ben exclaimed.

A hood had been shoved over Kali's head as soon as they left the cages and was only ripped away once they made it to the operating theatre. She was only just realising what she had gotten herself into. Kali had no idea just how badly Colleen was injured, what if she couldn't save the older woman? She was quickly brought out of her thoughts when she saw a familiar man standing a few metres away, his mouth going slack when he saw her.

"Jack!" Kali grinned, as his eyes darted over her as if looking for injuries.

She was surprised when he suddenly surged forward, pulling her into a tight hug, his arms wrapping around her shoulders. Kali immediately returned the hug, her hands coming to rest on the small of his back, as she felt him let out a stuttering breath. She didn't understand why he seemed so relieved to see her, but she was content to receive some small comfort from another person.

"Are you alright?" Jack mumbled, gripping tightly onto the back of her shirt.

"I'm okay. Are you?" Kali asked, pulling away a little, as Jack kept his hands on her shoulders, giving a nod.

"I…I heard you screaming, I thought that they…" Jack trailed off, with a shake of his head.

"Didn't know you still cared" Kali stated, as Jack's hands dropped from her shoulders.

"I'm so sorry. For what I said before when we were going after your brother, I didn't mean it. Any of it" Jack insisted, as she gave him a small smile.

"If you two are finished, can we please get back to why we're here" Juliet complained, as the pair went to rush over to sink, washing their hands thoroughly.

"What happened?" Jack questioned, trying to focus on the case.

"Gunshot wound to the abdomen" Juliet replied, as Jack's eyes flickered to some nearby spinal X-rays, catching Kali's attention.

She may have not have been able to read the X-ray's as well as Jack, but she could see there was a mass on the person's spine. Before she could think into it too much, Juliet was ushering her towards the operating room, clearly not wanting them to see the X-rays.

"Those aren't hers. Come on" Juliet told Jack, as the doors were opened for them to try to keep the three as sterile as possible.

They all donned their sterile gloves as quickly as possible, as Kali looked over to the monitoring equipment, noticing how low Colleen's blood pressure was, realising she was ready to crash at any moment.

"How much blood has she lost?" Kali inquired, as they approached the injured woman.

"A lot. I got the bullet out, but she's still bleeding" Juliet admitted, as Jack took a closer look at the woman's stomach.

Right upper quadrant; it's flowing badly" Jack shook his head.

"No. No, I padded it" Juliet exclaimed, as Kali came to stand near her, seeing Jack was right, the woman's stomach was filling up with blood.

"I need you to clamp under the liver so I can get a look back there" Jack advised, as Juliet went to pick up the clamp.

Her hands were shaking as she tried to steel herself to push the clamp into her friend's stomach, sounding like she was close to hyperventilating. It was painfully clear that Juliet was out of her comfort zone.

"I…I'm not a surgeon" Juliet stuttered, as Kali quickly grabbed the clamp from her hand.

"I've got this" Kali told her, as Juliet backed up a few steps, looking close to tears.

"Grab the suction. The blood's obscuring everything" Kali ordered Juliet, who was quick to place the suction in Kali's other hand.

Juliet grimaced as she watched the blood drain down the suction tube, making a horrifying gurgling noise. Kali then moved to clamp the liver back, allowing Jack the room to look for why Colleen was still bleeding.

"Smart thinking" Jack stated, giving her a quick smile.

"...You see where the bleeding's coming from?" Kali asked, when she saw how his eyes widened a moment later.

"She's got a retro-hepatic valve bleed. It's behind the liver, that's why you missed it. I need lap pads - as many as you got" Jack announced, as Kali began handing him the pads, starting to panic.

"Are you gonna' be able to—" Kali cut herself off as they heard a loud trill coming from the monitoring equipment.

Kali gulped when she saw Colleen's heartbeat had flatlined, the sound becoming almost deafening. She acted immediately, pushing against the leaver by her feet and lowering the bed before beginning CPR. She desperately began pumping against Colleen's chest, counting in her head, as her eyes connected with Jack, looking to him for guidance.

"The crash cart, now. Juliet, I need paddles!" Jack insisted, when he saw the blonde hadn't moved.

"It's broken. We've had...Jack, we haven't had anything happen before. We didn't - we have - I don't..." Juliet panicked, as Jack shared her expression.

"What about adrenaline?" Kali asked, continuing to perform CPR.

"Even if it worked, her brain likely wouldn't—" Jack started, but Kali cut him off.

"She's already dead, Jack. We need to try" Kali told him, trying not to lose count of her compressions.

Juliet gave a curt nod before rushing out of the room, coming back with a pack and needle. Her hands were shaking uncontrollably as she tried to draw the adrenaline into the syringe, forcing Jack to rush over, almost shoving her out of the way as he had the adrenaline ready in a matter of seconds. Kali kept her concentration on her compressions, aware of Jack pushing the adrenaline into Colleen's cannula out of her peripheral vision. A beeping sound had Kali's head snapping up, a gasp leaving her lips as she saw the heart monitor picking up a heartbeat. She turned to look at Jack, who was grinning from ear to ear, as Colleen's heartbeat began to stabilise.

"You…you did it" Juliet gaped, as Kali stumbled backwards, her arms aching painfully.

"I think you just earned your nursing credentials" Jack grinned at her, making Kali beam.

"Should we…" Kali trailed off when the lights in the operating theatre started to flicker.

She frowned when she saw how the heart monitor seemed to glitch, feeling a shiver go down her spine. The atmosphere in the room had changed in a split second, causing Kali's own heartbeat to pick up speed. Something was wrong. Suddenly, the deafening trill of a heart flatlining was back, as Kali's eyes went wide.

"Is she crashing again?" Jack questioned, rushing forward to take a closer look at Colleen.

Just as he reached out to touch her chest, a spark of electricity sent him flying onto his back, seeming to have been electrocuted. The operating lights above them sparked and exploded a moment later, throwing them all into darkness, as Kali tried to shield herself from the glass falling from the damaged lights.

"Jack!" Kali screeched, rushing over to him, her hands flying to his shoulders.

"What…what happened?" Jack mumbled, blinking a few times.

"She's dead" Juliet announced, as the pair whipped around to see Juliet touching Colleen's neck, feeling for a pulse.

"No…" Kali trailed off, realising what they would mean for Sawyer.

Sawyer had been thrown back in his cage as soon as Kali left, and everyone else apart from Ben was sent away. The man in question had been silent for a few minutes as if debating what he was going to tell Sawyer. Ben knew he had to choose his next words carefully.

"We need her gone" Ben informed the blond, who frowned at his comment.

"What the hell does that mean?" Sawyer queried.

"Kali was never supposed to be on this island. Her being here…complicates things. The island is trying to make up for that, but we're not sure how long it will last. We want her as far away from the island as possible" Ben explained.

"You said if she ever leaves she'll die" Sawyer pointed out, coming to lean against the metal bars of his cage.

"Kali is not the first person who has been granted a form of immortality on this island. There is someone else who cannot die. A while back, the man I am talking about was given an out, a way to cure him of this gift. But he's never taken it. I can give that cure to Kali" Ben exclaimed, making Sawyer scoff.

"Bullshit. If you really wanted her gone, why wouldn't you have already given her this cure?" Sawyer insisted.

"Because you can't leave with her, James. You're a candidate. The island isn't done with you. And let's face it, Kali is never going to leave without you" Ben went on, beginning to pace around his cage.

"I'm guessing a punchline is coming soon" Sawyer grumbled.

"Not only that, but I doubt Kali would ever want to leave without the rest of the group, the bleeding heart that she is. We need her to want to leave the island. You're the only person who can do that" Ben stated, as a sinking feeling grew in Sawyer's stomach.

"What are you saying?" Sawyer frowned.

"You need to make her hate you. Something which we both know you have very good experience with" Ben smirked, making Sawyer huff.

"You really think I'm gonna' believe a word coming out your damn mouth?" Sawyer mumbled.

"You don't need to believe me. Not yet anyway. But think about what I said, James. Do you really want to be the reason Kali never leaves this island? She'll only get one chance" Ben replied, before turning on his heel to walk away, leaving Sawyer conflicted.

Kali grimaced as she watched Juliet place a white sheet over Colleen's face, looking away to face Jack, who was sharing her expression. Both had lost patients before, but this felt different. A failure on both their parts. Kali walked over to him, placing her hand on his shoulder, as he tried to give her a reassuring smile.

"I'm glad you're okay" Jack exclaimed, reaching up to give her hand a squeeze.

"So, you don't hate me anymore then?" Kali murmured, pulling away as Jack let out a long sigh.

"I was angry, lashing out…I trusted you. You were…you're my best friend, Kali. I hated the idea that everything you had said to me was a lie" Jack admitted.

"I fucked up. Maybe I should have told you the truth from the beginning, but I just…I hadn't been accepted in so long. I couldn't bear to lose that" Kali explained, as Jack nodded slowly.

"You haven't" Jack insisted.

"If we ever get back to the others, everything will be different" Kali stated, running a hand through her hair.

"Maybe that's not a bad thing" Jack suggested, as they shared a look.

A loud crashing sound had both their heads snapping up, seeing Juliet had dropped a bloody clamp on the floor, still shaking as her adrenaline lessened. They both remember well what it was like losing your first patient, the shock, guilt, everything you could have done differently. It must have been even worse seeing as Juliet had been friends with the woman.

"S-sorry. It's just…I'm a fertility doctor. I'm not used to death" Juliet confessed, as Kali gave her a look of sympathy.

"You did everything you could" Kali pointed out.

"Her heart was probably weak from…I suppose it doesn't matter now" Juliet shook her head, as Kali tilted her head.

"From what?" Kali pushed, curiously.

"She was shot before, when you had the showdown in the woods after we found Michael. A stray bullet hit her in the leg, she didn't even register it until later. She went into cardiac arrest but…I brought her back. I guess…I guess I couldn't save her this time" Juliet cried, rubbing at her eyes.

"She died before?" Kali asked, as Juliet nodded.

"What's wrong?" Jack inquired, noticing the confused look on Kali's face.

"What happened with the lights? I mean, you touched her and got electrocuted? What the fuck was that about?" Kali insisted.

"A power surge?" Juliet suggested as Kali pursed her lips.

"It's like…like we weren't supposed to bring her back" Kali mumbled, her forehead wrinkled.

"What do you—" Jack began, but was cut off by a loud cry, as they turned to see Pickett rushing into the room.

"No! No, Colleen!" Pickett sobbed, rushing over to the body on the operating table.

With tears welling in his eyes, the man pulled the white sheet away, letting out a stuttering gasp as he saw the pale face of his girlfriend, blood still coating her lips. His hands slowly balled into fists, as his face contorted in rage. His eyes snapped up to Kali's, looking as if he wanted to rip her apart.

"You said you could save her" Pickett spat out.

"I tried" Kali replied.

"That's not good enough!" Pickett screeched, pulling his gun out of the waistband of his jeans, making them all flinch.

As he whipped around and began to storm out of the room, Kali didn't need to guess where he was heading. She was racing after him a second later, ignoring the shouts from Jack and Juliet, trying to navigate her way out of the confusing building. She ripped open the metal doors, practically stumbling out of the building and sprinting forward when she saw Pickett approaching the cages.

"You people did this! You took her from me!" Pickett yelled, as Sawyer backed up a step in his cage, having never seen the older man so angry.

"Take it easy—" Sawyer began, but he was cut off by Pickett's angry yell.

"You should know how I feel…" Pickett trailed off, turning to Kali who finally caught up with him.

Before anyone could stop him, Pickett had raised his gun to Kali, pulling the trigger as a bullet whizzed through the air. She let out a cry as the bullet hit her in the thigh, causing her to fall to the forest floor, grabbing at her bleeding limb. Her eyes went wide as Pickett marched towards her, his gun aimed at her head. Kali scrunched her eyes shut, expecting she would soon be on her deathbed once again.

"Stop it! Don't!" Sawyer screamed, banging on the metal bars of his cage.

"Do you love her?" Pickett questioned, turning to the blond.

"What?" Sawyer frowned, as Pickett lowered his gun to Kali's stomach.

Kali let out a screech as he shot her in the abdomen at point-blank range, a burning pain running right through her. She fell onto her back, her hands trying to stem the blood that was running down her stomach, as she gasped for breath. Tears threatened to spill down her cheeks as she tried to stay calm, despite the fear knawing away at her. She didn't want to die again.

"Don't! Leave her alone!" Sawyer yelled, desperately.

"Do you love her?!" Pickett insisted, pulling the trigger again, hitting Kali in the chest this time, causing her to scream again.

"Do you—" Pickett repeated, but he was cut off by Sawyer's pleading voice.

"Yes! Yes, I love her…I love her…" Sawyer begged, having fallen to his knees, his hands reaching through the metal bars.

Pickett's hands shook as he lined the next shot up with Kali's head, who was now coughing up blood, trying to crawl away from him. With a snarl he lowered his gun, giving her a hard kick to her stomach, as Kali let out a moan of pain.

"Some people don't deserve to be loved" Pickett spat out, before walking over her bleeding body.

"Wait…wait! You can't just leave her, stop!" Sawyer cried after him, realising the man was leaving Kali to bleed out on the ground.

"Kali? Hey, it's okay. You're alright" Sawyer tried to soothe, as she pulled herself onto her side, coughing up more blood as she did so.

"J-James…" She stuttered, as she began to crawl towards his cage, leaving a trail of blood behind.

"I've got you. I've got you, blue eyes" Sawyer exclaimed, reaching through the metal bars, grabbing her by the waist and holding her through the cage.

"Fuck, it hurts" Kali mumbled, her shaking hands trying to stop the bleeding that was flowing from her chest wound.

"I'm sorry. I'm—" Sawyer began, but she cut him off quickly.

"It's okay. I'll…I'll be fine" Kali stuttered, leaning against the metal bars, feeling her body growing cold.

"You know…if I knew all it took for you to say you…you love me was getting shot multiple times…I would have done it a long time ago" Kali tried to tease, her breath coming out in shallow pants.

"That or the end of the world" Sawyer chuckled, holding onto her a little tighter.

"…I can't keep doing this. I don't…I don't think I'm gonna' come back one of these times" Kali muttered, her face contorted in pain.

"Yes, you will. Cause' your gonna' get off this island, Kali. I promise" Sawyer insisted, as she gave him a small smile.

"James?" She murmured, as her eyes fluttered shut.

"Yeah?" Sawyer replied, as she reached out to grab his hand.

"Don't let go" Kali said, a pleading tone to her voice.

"Never will" Sawyer cried, giving her hand a squeeze.

Sawyer let out a shaky breath when he realised Kali had stopped breathing, her chest no longer rising and falling. He gripped onto her hand a little tighter, his other hand pulling her closer, despite the metal bars that divided them.

"It's okay, baby. I've still got you" Sawyer exclaimed, cursing the tears that were welling in his eyes.

Light.

A bright light was the last thing that Ken remembered before he found his eyes fluttering open, appearing to still be in the jungle. He slowly pushed himself to his feet, his head pounding, feeling something dripping down from his nose. He wiped at the substance with the back of his hand, finding his nose had been bleeding profusely. Ken clutched at his head, finding his vision was blurred, almost feeling jetlagged.

"Am I in hell?" He questioned aloud, realising the bright light was the last thing he remembered.

"Not quite" A familiar voice announced, as Ken whipped around, coming face to face with Boone.

"You son of a bitch" Ken snarled, before lunging at the younger man, his hand going around his neck.

"Not the way to treat someone who just saved your life" Boone stuttered, clawing at Ken's hands.

"I was…I was at the docks with…Kal! Where is she? What the fuck have you done?" Ken exclaimed, shoving Boone away from him.

"Ben was going to kill you. I had to get you out of there. Figured I owed you one" Boone muttered, rubbing at his sore neck.

Ken's forehead wrinkled as he realised Boone was wearing completely different clothes to what he had been wearing not ten minutes before. Not to mention he somehow had a straggly beard. Even his eyes seemed different somehow…older. Ken started to wonder how long he had been unconscious for.

"That light…that was you?" Ken frowned, as Boone shook his head.

"It's a long story. We're breaking all the rules just to talk to you now, Ken. That's why I need you to listen to me very carefully" Boone insisted, as Ken tilted his head.

"How about I just kill you instead?" Ken spat out, Boone's betrayal still stinging.

"I'm sorry for what I did at the docks. It's my biggest regret" Boone sighed.

"Oh, fuck you. I don't want to hear your grovelling, just tell me where my sister is. Hell, where are we?" Ken insisted, as Boone pursed his lips.

"That's a difficult question to answer" Boone replied, making Ken scoff.

"Alright, you know what? Screw this, I'm out of here" Ken muttered, turning on his heel to walk away.

He kept walking for a few metres, before he came to a clearing, coming to a sudden halt when he saw a body lying a few metres away. A cold chill went down his spine as he got closer to what he realised was a corpse, feeling his mouth go slack.

It was…him?

Stumbling closer, Ken gulped when he saw the blood pooled underneath the body, his eyes darting over his own corpse. It wasn't possible. How could he be looking at his own dead body? A hysterical laugh left his lips at the absurdity of it all, as he ran a hand over his face, wondering if he had lost his mind.

"I…I'm hallucinating, right? This is all in my head" Ken suggested, seeing Boone come up behind him.

"I'm sorry, but this is real. This is your future, Ken" Boone sighed, as Ken's eyes went wide.

"Wait…you're saying that we've gone forward in time?" Ken gaped, watching Boone nod.

"I told you…where we are, it's a difficult question to answer" Boone stated.

"Why the hell did you bring me here?" Ken questioned, looking away from his corpse.

"Because we have great plans for you" Another voice announced, as Ken whipped around, finding a blond man staring at him expectantly.

"Who are you?" Ken frowned.

"My name is Jacob...and I'm here to give you a choice" The man informed him, as Ken's eyes darted between the newcomer and his dead body.

"To prevent my death?" Ken guessed, as Jacob gave him a sad smile.

"To save your sister" Jacob replied, watching the younger man tense.

"From what?" Ken pushed, finding something about the man putting him on edge.

"The end of everything" Jacob answered, taking a few steps forward until he was standing right in front of Ken.

"I'm sorry, Ken. I truly am. But there is only one way to save your sister..." Jacob trailed off, a hint of sympathy to his voice.

"And what's that?" Ken pushed.

"…You have to die" Jacob answered, as Ken's eyes went wide, the shock evident on his face.

Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Lot's of revelations in this chapter, it will all come together in time! I'm already setting up some of the big storylines in Season 4/5. I always laugh at Jack's terrible CPR in this episode, the guy literally did chest compressions for about thirty seconds and had gaps in between, I'm not surprised Colleen died, haha. Please leave a review:)

scripturient3201: I can't believe I've been writing this story for three years, or that it's not even been four years since I started watching the show! Kali's definitely having a tough time of it lately. And now Sawyer's said he loves Kali, it must be plain sailing from here on out, right? Right?! Guess again, haha. Thanks for reviewing:)

AsukaHyuga: Thanks for reviewing, I hope you like the new chapter:)

Kz4: I love that line too, I just had to include it! And uh oh, Kate ruined their plans once again, I don't think Kali is going to forgive her anytime soon. Thank you for the review:)

Apoka: Just wait for the following chapters, lots more sexual tension there, haha.

carmelitajones: I really wanted to avoid making Kali, Kate 2.0 in the cage episodes, even though she has taken some of her storylines. Lots more revelations to come with Desmond, he'll be a very important character in this story. Aw, thank you so much! I hope to keep writing this story for some years to come:)
