The man finally speaks once they are walking down a corridor leading to the elevators "You're lucky that I owed Davis a favour and that I trust her judgement" he says seriously as he presses a button and waits for the elevator "… that and Miss Ellis scares the shit out of most my guys I wasn't about to go against her wishes" he almost cracks a smile, but not quite.
Jason smiles a little though, if Mandy was able to give people a hard time then she was doing OK. "What happened? What's she even doing here I thought she was all in the clear and ready to go home?"
Mr Jones or whatever his real name gave Jason a look as they got in the elevator "I think I'll let her explain that one" and then he really does crack a smile
Jason just looks confused but this guy obviously wasn't going to say any more.
When they reached their floor he was taken down a long corridor past the main ward and into a side corridor where there were two armed agents stationed, they stood to attention before relaxing after recognising their boss. "He's with me" he gestures at Jason and the two agents go back to leaning against the walls either side of the room door.
"I'll leave you two to talk" Mr Jones says and makes his way back down the corridor leaving Jason outside the closed door. He knocks and a female voice that isn't Mandy's says to wait one moment before coming to open the door. A nurse opens the door for him and gestures for him to come in before excusing herself but he wasn't even looking at her, his eyes were straight to Mandy sat up in bed in a hospital gown her bob had already started to grow out it was no longer poker straight and hung in waves. She didn't look hurt, no bruises, but she was hooked up to an IV and her face looked really pale and thin. But she was smiling at him.
"Mandy what the fuck did you get yourself into this time? You look awful are you OK?" he says as he's walking straight towards her, taking the hand that doesn't have a drip attached and kissing her on the forehead.
"Jeez thanks, way to make a girl feel good! I'm OK Jason, honest. And for once I can blame you for getting me into this mess" she laughs "I'm really OK"
Jason looks confused
"It's called hyperemesis gravidarum Jason…" she smiles warily as she waits for Jason to catch-on "in other words it's severe morning sickness"
Jason is silent for a while and she watches as his brain catches up, then his face catches up to his brain and a smile starts to spread across it. "You're pregnant?!"
Mandy nods smiling
"You're pregnant!" He repeats as its sinking in and kissing her on the mouth before pulling back quickly holding her face "and you're OK? The baby is OK?" He says as he looks suddenly worried again
"We are both fine Jason, just dehydrated and in need of a bit of help getting some nutrients in me. Honestly only your kid could cause so much aggro" Mandy laughs
Jason's head is spinning and she can she the cogs whirring "But how?"
"Really? Does Bravo One really need a chat about the birds and the bees?" She looks amused "It's early days so my guess would be that luxurious Mexico hotel room had a lot to do with it… didn't really plan renewing my birth control while I was supposed to be away from you for months"
Jason smiles "So how far along are you?"
"Only about 10 weeks, but spent the last few weeks sick as a dog, that's how I found out, thought maybe I had food poisoning but I'd been eating the same as everyone else so Dr ran a test"
Jason took a deep breath then grinned again "I'm gonna be a dad again… have you any idea how excited Emma is going to be?" He laughs
"You think?" Mandy looks unsure
"Yeah!" He squeezes her hand "her and Mikey are both gonna be so excited"
He pauses looking at Mandy "Are you OK about this Mand? I know we never talked about this? About you being a mom or us being parents together?"
Mandy smiles at him and reaches up for his face "I'm so happy that I'm going to be a mom, you're the only person I could imagine doing this with. It took me by surprise but I'm happy"
"I suppose this is what we call the not-quite white picket fence then?" Jason jokes "we can have the fence if you really want that too you know" he teases her, remembering their conversation years ago about what life after the agency might look like for Mandy.
"I can do without the fence, this little family, this is more than I ever hoped for" Mandy smiles as Jason leans in and kisses her.
