Cunishipping (Kawai Shizuka/Kujaku Mai/Mazaki Anzu)

. . .

"I hope you know what you're getting yourself into."

Mai's fierce grin told the other two that she knew exactlywhat she was getting herself into.

Shizuka hugged her knees to her chest from her spot on the sand, her towel spread out underneath her and the umbrella hanging over her head. She was only a few feet away from where the volley ball net had been set up, so she was probably in danger of getting hit with the ball or at least sprayed sand, but she couldn't miss the chance to watch this showdown.

Anzu stood on one side, spinning the ball easily on the tip of one finger. Her hair bounced in its ponytail as she shifted from one foot to the other—how she could stand on the beach barefoot like that was beyond Shizuka, the ground felt hot even through her towel.

Mai took up the other side of the field, already in a half squat with her arms out, ready to jump for the first attack she knew was coming. Shizuka wasn't even sure who she should be looking at first—Anzu, the one about to pitch the volleyball, or Mai, the one who would try to parry it?

Anzu struck fast and hard, slamming the serve as hard as she could over the net.

"Don't overextend yourself right off the bat, Anzu," Mai said as she dove for it, smacking it up and back over. Anzu was quick, though, sand spraying in her wake as she leapt up to block the shot.

"I could say the same for you!" Anzu said.

"Go, Mai-san, go Anzu-chan!" Shizuka shouted, pumping the air with one hand.

"Ah, I can't lose with Shizuka cheering for me!" Mai said, hitting the ball again.

"Hah, well she's cheering for me too, so I guess I can't lose either!" Anzu said. Her voice was high with laughter and breathlessness as she shot to smack the attack back. They were so fast that Shizuka could barely even tell who was doing what, but she tried her best to keep watching.

"How about this—whoever loses gets to have Shizuka on their side for next round," Mai said. "Since whoever loses must need some help right?"

"No fair, you'll lose on purpose then so you can double team me!"

"Not if you lose on purpose first for the chance to play with Shizuka!"

"O-Oh, guys, I'm not even really—good enough to play," Shizuka tried to squeak, but they were clearly too busy parrying the ball back so fast that she was getting dizzy.

She just shook her head with a sigh, and rested her head on her knees, waiting to see who would be the winner in the end. It was a nice day, at least, she thought. A good day to be out with friends.
