Crownshipping (Pegasus J. Crawford/Mazaki Anzu)

. . .

"Congratulations, wonderful, brava, Miss Mazaki, that was stunning as expected!"

Anzu was so high on the rush of finishing her first major performance that for a split second, she didn't recognize the voice—for the next split second, she thought no, I must be imagining it, and then the final split second, the man himself appeared with his ever effusive, sparkling smile and a large bouquet of roses.

"O-oh my gosh," she mumbled. "Mr. Pegasus, I didn't—I had no idea you were here!"

"I heard from Yugi-boy that your first performance was coming up, and of course I had to be here," Pegasus laughed. "For you, my dear, for a lovely performance."

Anzu flushed as Pegasus present the bouquet to her, hearing a few excitable whispers from her fellow dancers and from the rest of the audience mingling in the lobby. Gosh, she wasn't expecting this kind of attention on her very first major performance!

"T-thank you so much," she stumbled, flustered as she accepted the roses. "You really shouldn't have, this is—this is so kind of you."

"Think nothing of it, my dear, you certainly earned it," he said with a great wave of his hand. "The arts make life meaningful, you know, and you contributed admirably to the well of life. Besides, I do think I owe you and your friends a bit of something for all of the trouble I've put you through."

"That was years ago," Anzu said. She shook her head with a smile. "But thank you, really—this is almost too much. I can't believe you came all the way to New York for this."

"Well, I thought your first performance needed something fittingly beautiful to match it," Pegasus said, smiling broadly. "Speaking of which, if the bouquet is too much, perhaps I overdid it with the other part."

"The other part?" Anzu said.

"Anzu! Anzu!"

Anzu's heart almost burst at the sound of Yugi's voice drifting through the crowd, at the sight of a shock of blonde hair as a tall, gangly boy jumped up to look over the crowd and wave, heard Honda and Ryo arguing in Japanese among all the English about how they needed to just push through, no that would be rude, just slip through we'll get there in a minute—

Anzu felt tears bubbling in her eyes, pressing a hand to her mouth.

"Oh my god," she said. "You didn't…you brought all of them here?"

"They wanted to see it as much as I did," Pegasus said, placing a hand briefly on her shoulder. "I thought it was only fair that your friends should be here to watch your dreams come true."

Anzu felt her makeup smear as tears began to roll down her cheeks.

Pegasus jumped a little as she threw her arms around, almost crushing the roses between them.

"Thank you thank you thank you thank you," she said over and over. "Oh my gosh thank you so much thank you—"

Pegasus just chuckled, patting her head briefly.

"Go on and say hello," he said. "They came all the way out here for you, you know."

Anzu managed one more teary smile, feeling herself dazzle all the way through.

"Thank you," she said one more time, and Pegasus smiled, pushing her gently towards her friends.

She turned, and she ran through the crowd with the roses in her arms, feeling so light that she thought that maybe she could fly over all of the people just to make it to where her friends were making their way to her.
