He realized he was in over his head as the swarm of enemies kept coming. He was skilled, but he was only one man. Thank the goddesses his wolf companion was perceptive enough to notice his predicament. The creature tore into the masses of enemies as Midna used her hair to take out further targets.

"Well pinky congratulations, you managed to make me care a little. Only because my mount charged in! Not for any misguided sense of compassion or anything."

As bunny link pressed on in the battle. The fur around his chest grew warmer. He felt renewed courage as his despair diminished. He was far to focused to realize a new mark had appeared beneath his armor.

Suddenly, a dark laughter echoed as the twill hordes parted. A dark clad man approached continuing to giggle with menace. He wore a tall triangle metal helmet of shadowy material. "Well well well, some rebellious fools have decided to face the Twilight King. How useful of you to line up for death." He raised his hands that seemed to be covered in armored gauntlets. Dark energy filled the area pushing back the would be heroes.

At least that's what Zant thought. A lone pink bunny of all things stood his ground with a scimitar driven into the earth. Midna and the wolf had been pushed far away by the force. Link could tell they were both hurt. They simply didn't have the power to stand against this opponent. He roared with all the strength in his voice. "Go, don't look back this time! This enemy is beyond you both!" So without seeing if they listened he charged.

"Huh, for such a weak looking creature you have a lot of strength." Before he could say more the foe had a scimitar in his face. Claws met burnt steel as the two circled each other striking with great force. Zant was facing a skilled warrior he realized. However, the tools he used were pathetic at best. After, a few minutes of trading blows his weapon blade shattered on impact.

Link was shock for a moment as his opponent hit him thru his guard. The shield broke as the next blow came. He fell to a knee wishing he still had the master sword. He knew his life now hung by a thread.

"You never had a chance to begin with. Time to die little rabbit." Unexpectedly, his enemy started glowing with flame. A blade of pure fire sprouted from his blade less hilt. Several balls of flame filled the area instantly destroying his corrupted twill within fifty feet of the battle.

Link was surprised to see the third amulet at work. Still he had a mission. The blade formed of pure magic soon turned the tide. With a final two handed overhead slash the dark cloth parted. Leaving a huge gash that cauterized the deep wound.

Zant had no choice, but to retreat and regain his strength. "I'll let you and your companions go for now. However, I will be back." Without further words he vanished into a cloud of dark smoke.

Bunny Link limped towards his allies. They had not fled like he asked, as the army retreated as well. An unearthly golden glow surrounded him as he approached. "It's time for me to return to my home. Always remember, true courage isn't the absence of fear. It's in spite of it. I leave the rest to you heroes of this world." With a wave of his hand wolf Link was pushed outside the Twilight Relm and then he was gone in a bright flash of light.

Light world...

Link appeared as himself just outside Hyrule castle. After having seen what could have been. He realized leaving Hyrule to train was a bad idea. Though his time away in that other place gave him new purpose. He would see what he could do to prevent his small kingdom from going further into the dark.

The End?
