A/N : Hey everyone! Epifunny here!
This is my first fanfiction and I hope you like it. For each update, I will be suggesting a couple of songs that I think really remind me of the chapter. So go ahead and ENJOY!
P.S. I will try my best to update weekly at the latest, but I don't really have an updating schedule.
Disclaimer : The Mortal Instruments and all the characters belong to Cassandra Clare (this unfortunately includes Jace as well). I only own the plot.

PROLOGUE
With a sigh and a final backward glance at the house that had been her home from the day she was born, Clary tightened the straps of her backpack and walked towards her glistening black Aston Martin. Her mom, Jocelyn, had left a few hours ago, along with the moving van, but Clary had needed the space and time to bid her house adieu. She loved the mansion, with its three floors and enormous garden filled with the most beautiful and exotic flowers that her father used to tend to. She recalled the evenings she sat by her window and painted the stunning combination of colors that seemed to glow in the fading sunlight. Morgenstern Manor was nothing short of amazing.
She hated how her mother had just suddenly decided to up and leave, but she understood her reasons for it. There were too many memories, too many moments associated with the place, and after a point, it was just too much. Too much sadness and pain, and finally, Jocelyn decided that the best course of action would be to move to another town. Clary didn't necessarily like the idea, but she knew that her mom needed the closure. Both of them had been grieving for months, and it was time for them to move on.
Quickly getting into the passenger seat and softly shutting the door to her car, Clary just sat back in her seat. She had no idea what was going to happen to her now. She was just a junior in high school - she should be worried about bad grades and getting caught sneaking out to parties, rather than wondering if she could make it through the day without crying or having a nervous breakdown. But she would do it. She would do it for them and she would do it well.
Putting her face in her hands, she bowed her head, supporting her arms on her legs, as a myriad of memories and emotions flew through her mind and her throat tightened. I can't do this, she thought, as a small sob broke through her mouth and her bottom lip quivered. She couldn't take it, not when every passing moment was a reminder of their absence. Her slim shoulders shook fitfully as she cried, her blood-red hair forming a curtain around her face. Pulling her legs up to her chest, she curled up into a small ball and finally, finally, let loose. She let go of all the feelings that she had bottled up for so long. For months, she had had to be the strong one while her mother was buried deep in grief and loss.
She wailed loudly as pure anguish filled her heart, clutching her hands tightly to her chest. Whimpers and moans of pain escaped her lips as tears stained her face. Her vision was blurry as she hit the dashboard with her fist, her face contorting with anger at the unfairness of the world. Deep, suppressed emotions raced out like a river escaping a dam. She mumbled and shrieked incoherently as her body shook convulsively with the force of her sobs. The sound of weeping and suffering filled the car, as the young girl tried to wipe her seemingly endless tears. Quickly realizing that it was pointless, she simply wrapped her arms around her legs and buried her face in her knees, waiting for the bawling to stop.
Slowly, the tears stopped, until she was just sniffing her now runny nose. She sluggishly rubbed her swollen eyes. The beautiful emeralds were bloodshot and her nose was tender as she wiped it. Her freckle-covered face was blotchy and red as she tried to calm herself down. Gradually, she removed her arms from around herself and put her legs back down. Just as she was deeming herself composed enough to drive, her phone rang, making her jump and shaking her out of her trance.
"H-Hello?" she said, cursing herself inwardly for stuttering.
"Hey sweetie," came the voice of her mother, hesitant as she realized that her daughter didn't sound fine. "Have you left yet?"
"Yeah mum, I'm on my way." Clary replied, evidently wanting to end the conversation as fast as she could.
"Okay honey. Drive safe, alright?" Came her mother's reply. She was clearly concerned for her daughter's safety, especially when she was noticeably emotionally shaken.
"I will mum. Bye."
"Bye Clare-Bear."
Rolling her eyes at the ridiculous nickname, Clary ended the call, before falling back into the seat. Taking a deep breath, she moved herself into the driver's seat, attached her seat belt and put the key into the ignition. She would get through this. Both for herself and her family. She had made a promise and she intended to keep it. With a small exhale, Clary drove away from her home, leaving behind the biggest reminder of her dead brother and father.
