Cherryshipping (Bakura Amane/Jonouchi Katsuya)
. . .
((past scene; Jonouchi and Amane are both about eight or nine))
. . .
The cherry blossoms were starting to fall.
Jonouchi reached up one hand to try and catch one, letting it drift against his palm. It was big against his small hands, big enough to cover most of his palm. It was gonna be summer soon—the cherry trees would be green instead of pink in a few weeks.
"Look, look, oniichan, look—oh!"
Jonouchi yelped as something collided with his back, sending him sprawling to the ground with something heavy landing on top of him.
"Hey!" he protested, trying to struggle up. "Watch it!"
The response was a startled squeaks and a pair of hands digging into his back as the person who had run into him scrambled to get off of him. He groaned, but the person was finally gone. He could sit up now.
Rubbing his back and wincing, he sat up and looked back—who had smacked into him like that?
She was tiny compared to him, and he wasn't all that big yet. Her big green eyes bubbled with tears, pale hands curled up in front of her chest as she leaned down looking mortified—her pale white pigtails were slipping a little, probably from the fall.
"Amane's so sorry!" she squeaked. "Amane was—Amane was looking at the flowers!"
Jonouchi felt his irritable expression melt away. She...she reminded him of Shizuka. He smiled instead, and the girl hesitated.
"I'm okay," he said. He stood up, dusting off his knees. "See?"
"I'm still really sorry," the girl said, sniffling. "Um...um...oh!"
She crouched down quickly, grabbing a perfect cherry blossom off of the ground. She shot back up then, standing on her tip-toes to reach Jonouchi's head. He froze for a minute—what was she doing? Her fingers twined into his hair for a second. Then she bounced back, her hands clasped in front of her.
"There!" she said. "Um—that's a sorry flower for you. Amane is really sorry."
She bowed bouncily, her pigtails fluttering around her.
"Amane-chan," a voice called out over the park. "Amane-chan, where did you go?"
Amane bounced back up, her eyes widening.
"Ah! Amane has to go! Amane's still sorry for running into you! Bye!"
She bowed one more time, then she spun on her heels and bolted, leaving Jonouchi in the dust and uncertain of what exactly had just happened.
His hand reached up to his head for a minute, touching the little flower that Amane had put there.
"Sorry flower?" he said. "What a silly girl."
But as he turned around to keep walking back towards home, he found himself smiling anyway.
