Cheatshipping (Jonouchi Katsuya/Esper Roba)
. . .
It was one of those awkward in between moments—do I know you well enough to say hello? Or do we not know each other well enough to justify forcing ourselves into awkward small talk?
Jonouchi wondered if it was possible to pretend that he just hadn't seen him. It wasn't that he didn't like the kid, it was just—they had talked once? What was he supposed to say? What did you say to people you only knew in passing, but you knew well enough to know their names and to feel awkward when you ran into them in supermarket? He ducked his head back down to the seafood selection. Shizuka wanted to make...curry tonight, right? God, his head was all frazzled now.
He glanced up again to see if maybe he was imagining it. Nope, he wasn't—that was definitely Roba, the fake ESP kid he had battled in Battle City. Man, had that really been almost two years ago? Time flies. He hadn't seen him since then, though, and had kind of figured he didn't live in Domino, that he had just come in for the tournament.
But no, there he was, perusing the frozen udon. And it was definitely him—or...or maybe it was one of his brothers, after all, it had been a few years, and they all looked...very similar.
Jonouchi dropped his eyes back down—could he maybe get through this trip without having to acknowledge him? Like, it wasn't that he didn't want to say hello, but what do you say to someone you hadn't really known and hadn't seen in years? Ugh, he couldn't focus, he didn't know what to do—maybe Roba wouldn't even recognize him. Maybe he would just walk past him and the awkward uncertain moment could pass. Or maybe he would just say hi and get it over with, rip the bandage off the wound—ask after his brothers real quick, share a laugh about something, and then say he had to get going cause Shizuka was waiting. Yeah, that would work, he could do—that.
He glanced over his shoulder, all ready and raring to do that thing—Roba was gone.
Jonouchi just stood there for a moment, staring at the place he had been. Had...had he imagined it after all...? Had it been someone else?
Jonouchi groaned to himself, shaking his head. Whatever...now he didn't have to make a decision, anyway. He should really finish shopping and get back to Shizuka.
. . .
A/N: I'm sorry dudes but I don't want to write Roba. Also, Jou—I feel your pain. I live in the same town I graduated highschool from and I constantly run into people I remember from school but like I wasn't friends with them? So do I acknowledge that I know them or not—it's probably easier to pretend we don't remember each other. Anyway. Next is Chaseshipping (Honda x Otogi).
