I don't own Life is Strange Characters.
POV Max
Max looked at her future self, she couldn't believe what was happening.
"Chloe," Max repeated to herself. "She... died... because we chose to save our hometown."
"It was your choice Max, after all... we loved her didn't we?" Future Max asked. "We couldn't keep her in reality. She was meant to die... but one night the devil came to me... he offered to bring her back."
"Did you... accept it?"
"I did," the older woman replied. "Right now our team is targeting Daniel and his friends. We're setting things in motion," she explained. "These people that I've chosen... they were under some false impressions. They believe they're meant to kill Daniel but they're a chosen few that know the purpose of these events is to create a hole in young Daniel's heart. It would leave Daniel open to possession because the devil loves power."
"Please you mustn't this isn't-"
"Who we are?" the older woman asked. "I've had this conversation before. This is the same conversation Max with the same choices that we will continue to make. Are you in position?" The older woman asked, pressing a button in her ear.
"Yes ma'am, targets in sight."
"Shoot to kill soldier."
"No don't!" Max exclaimed.
Afterwards
When the rubble cleared from the fire RPG, Alex and Stephanie started coughing. Alex's glasses had fallen off from the impact of her destroyed apartment. With the smoke clearing from the scene, it was Stephanie who started to wake up. As she got up, she saw Alex's glasses next to her. When her eyes moved to where Daniel and Sean were they widened.
"Alex, Alex please wake up," Stephanie begged. Alex groaned in pain, waking up from the voice of her fiance. Stephanie took Alex's cracked glasses, as she took them anyways then put them on. Daniel was trying to help Sean as he was buried under part of the ceiling. A metal pole was sticking through Sean's stomach, as he coughed up some blood.
"Sean, Sean!" Daniel exclaimed, trying to use his power carefully. Alex and Stephanie ran over to help Daniel now that they were fully awake, but Daniel saw that even with their help his power wasn't useful. He started crying. Alex could feel that everyone was agitated, the auras she was seeing were different for each person. Sean's aura was surrounded by a purple aura- he was more afraid of what was happening to him. Daniel was covered completely in a red aura, he was angry that someone would do this to his brother. Stephanie didn't have an aura, Alex made a promise to her to not read her emotions, it was difficult given the situation to hold that promise. Alex gulped but moving her hand and she chose to read Sean's mind.
Inside Sean's Mind
Alex caught a glimpse of the brother's journey. From the shooting of their father to Daniel breaking down the border wall to renter Mexico.
Back in reality
Alex's aura started to change to purple, she was feeling pressure all around her. As Alex and Stephanie couldn't help Daniel or Sean, Alex saw Sean was starting to lose consciousness.
"Sean! Don't please!" Daniel cried. Alex raised her hand, she tried to breach Daniel's mind to calm him down from making any sort of mistake he'd regret. For some reason, Daniel caught onto this, his red aura intensified to the point where he reached out his hand. He pulled Alex off her feet, sweeping her away as Stephanie tried to grab Alex but was too late. While Daniel grabbed Alex, Sean couldn't help but look at his brother. The younger wolf would be on his own now, he wasn't afraid for himself but of Daniel. His power growing uncontrollably could be catastrophic, and as he was about to leave the world he heard a neck-snapping.
With Max
Max had fallen asleep as she felt something take over her. It was the same darkness before, and it showed itself in the form of Jefferson.
"Hello again Max," Jefferson greeted.
"You're not Jefferson are you?"
"Correct Max!" Jefferson exclaimed. "I must say Jefferson really did admire you. If it weren't for your powers you most likely would have been his next victim. I was disappointed with his results."
"Do you know why I was given these powers?" Max asked the devil imposter.
"You humans have a saying: father works in mysterious ways," Jefferson replied. "Sometimes I feel like he always has a couple of guardian angels on Earth, born in you pitiful humans to stop me. But you Max: you were very easy to influence and young Daniel is ripe for the taking. Sean is gone and so is Alex."
"Shit," Max cursed. "Why are you doing this?"
"I want to give you a choice Max. You chose to save that pitiful, ungrateful town of yours over your own best friend. Hell, she could have been your partner in life," Jefferson told her. Max couldn't help but frown as he said that.
"If you work for me I will give Chloe back to you. It's that simple."
"The devil lies," Max told him. Jefferson took off his glasses his eyes started to glow red, his voice deepening.
"I do not lie!" he yelled. Max's eyes widened in fear as she felt her heart beat faster. Jefferson put his glasses back on, calming himself as he cleared his throat.
"The devil is in the details so the choice is this: in a week's time you are going to die. You were supposed to," he explains. Max looked at him surprised.
"...How?" she asked.
"A car accident of all things. In fact, the first time I planned this out, you were fairly burned on your face. Almost unrecognizable, I did my best which is why future you look scarred. So Max if you choose to bring Chloe back, that accident is avoided and you get to spend your life working for the FBI in the past which will lead up to this moment again. However, if you choose not to accept my offer I will reset everything to what it once was," he explained.
"Why would you do that?"
"To prove to my father that every human makes a mistake. That humans are the monsters he created."
Max looked down at herself... she had forgotten what Chloe's laughter sounded like. She forgot her voice almost altogether. This opportunity was all on her... but was it fair? Sean is dead... and Alex someone so unique with so much potential to do the world some good is gone. It was like choosing between Chloe and the town all over again.
Max looked up at Jefferson who smiled, knowing what her answer would be.
"I choose everyone else."
"...What?" Jefferson asked.
Max smirked.
"You heard me, I'm choosing them. I love Chloe with all my heart but you... you took advantage of me in the most feared moment of my life. I am going to prove to you they are not the monsters you think they are. Especially when the circumstances aren't manipulated in your favor."
Jefferson sighed.
"Disappointing Max, very disappointing..." he trailed off turning his back from Max. "Very well Max Caulfield, time for a reset," he snapped his fingers and there was a flash of light.
Back in reality
Max woke up to find herself back in front of the record store at Haven as she knocked on the door unsure whether Alex was still alive. The door opened quickly, with Alex looking at her.
"Max... what happened to us?" Alex asked aware something serious had gone down thanks to her powers.
"Let's wait for Daniel and I'll explain everything," Max told her.
One Week Later
Max had left Haven a week ago, explaining the circumstances to Daniel, Alex, and Stephanie of what occurred. She told them about her sacrifice that her powers were too dangerous and she had to leave to find herself, to possibly even be rid of them. In truth, she did not want them to worry about her fate, as she drove on the road all week she was cautious. As Max stopped at an intersection, she saw that a truck was coming from the right side. The red lights turned green and Max started driving, thinking she had the right away and that the truck would stop at red. For some reason, it did not and that's when Max closed her eyes knowing the impact would cost her, her life.
Somewhere
Max woke up feeling light. Everything around was white, including her clothes and shoes. She got up and heard footsteps coming from behind her, she wasn't sure who it could be. She wasn't ready to face God, especially after all the damage her future self caused. When she felt a soft hand touch her shoulder, her eyes widened. The hand let go of Max as she turned to face the person. Max's heart skipped a beat and she smiled seeing who greeted her in heaven first, exclaiming in happiness:
"Chloe!", giving her best friend a hug.
This short fanfiction is now completed! While it was shorter than I wanted it to be. I did accomplish what I wanted to write. I hope you all enjoyed the easter eggs from the game, as I tried to get a few of them from all three games.
