Blindshipping (Atem/Mutou Yugi)

. . .

"You look like you," he says, and the words send a wonderful tremor through him.

He stares briefly at his hands—warm, deep brown hands, not like Yugi's pale hands that he's been using for so long. At the time, it had felt fine to use Yugi's hands, but now—now, looking at his own dark skin, it feels so right, like putting on the most comfortable sweater again.

Yugi smiles at him, and his eyes are alight with cheer.

"I look like me," Atem agrees, and he feels a smile burst out over his face when he realizes I have a name. "I look like me."

He has a name. He has a body. He has memories. He has an identity. He feels—he feels like crying.

Yugi laughs, then, and grabs his hands, holds them in between his briefly. He moves his fingers out to splay his palms against Atem's—their hands are still the same size, still a little too small for their age. Now, though, Yugi's hands are pale beside his. It looks right. They both look right, for the first time in ages.

"Atem," Yugi says, and Atem shivers once again.

It's his name. Yugi is saying his name. Yugi grins widely.

"Atem," he says again, his voice twisting the syllables a bit with his Japanese accent, and Atem laughs.

He drags Yugi closer to him in a hug.

"Stop teasing me!" he said.

"But I want to call you by your real name, other me—I mean, Atem! It's Atem! You have a name! Atem!"

Yugi can't pronounce it right but it's still hisname, noticeably and wonderfully his, and Yugi is here to share it with him and he's already crying. He cries as Yugi squeezes him tightly around the chest, and they both can't do anything other than laugh.

"Yugi," he says, just to tease him back.

"Atem," Yugi insists on saying over and over again.

He has a name. He has a name, and for the first time, Yugi is saying it out loud.

And it feels right.
