Hello there readers!
I must say, that I am very surprised by how warmly this story was welcomed by you. I had some doubts if anyone will even be interested in such a concept, but, your response – wow! I can't even express how happy I am!
Before we will jump into the chapter, I shall answer your comments!
N0tLogical – Thank you very much. And yes, I am currently using Grammarly – I love this program, and without it, all my stories would look very bad. And yes, getting a beta-reader is a good idea (already searching for one) - and thus, I'd like to apologize for any spelling or grammar mistakes. And don't worry – Out of Reach is not getting abandoned. You can say that OoR and FtL will get an equal focus.
MrTinySeal – Well, here you go!
ZaWarudoOvrHeaven – Oh yeah, this ride is going to be something they will never forget.
123ABIR123 – I am and I will.
MSala – Well, here you go!
marseldagistani – And more you will have. As for MTF's… A few things. Omega-7 also known as "Pandora's Box" was disbanded – at least according to the SCP Wiki. As for Zeta-7 "Hades Hounds"… The only place I have found any information about this MTF is from a roleplaying site, and since for this story I will be using only information from the English SCP wiki… Well… I am afraid that there won't be any Zeta-7 here. As for MTF's against demigods… I cannot say, because I do not wish to post any spoilers.
Trsmuted – I am as well!
HiperUnity – Well, same here. Most of the time I am spending reading and verifying all the information about SCP mythos for this story to be as accurate as it can, and then I am writing this. And I am glad that you are interested.
FanBoy01 – Thanks.
DT3 – To be honest, I was more than disappointed with the rest of PJOxSCP mythos crossovers, especially about that one "Gods and Demigods reading about SCP" – it seemed to be nothing more than just an excuse for the author to flex about his waifu than an actual story. And so I am glad that you are enjoying this story so far. And don't worry – I won't make an amateur mistake such as making an OC jerk. Besides – going against the O5 council? Who would be such an idiot to try to fight against [REDACTED]?
catoparadox – To be honest, Olympians are literally nothing more than a bunch of overgrown children compared to what the Foundation is containing and protect the world from. And they are going to learn it the hard way (imagine their faces when they will learn that Scarlet King can destroy the multiverse just by entering it). As for the "When Day Breaks" scenario… Well, please take a look at the profile picture of this story, and tell me – isn't it a little too red? (HINT HINT, CAN'T SAY MORE WITHOUT GIVING A MASSIVE SPOILER, SORRY)
I guess that is it for now. It is time for chapter 2!
Fear the Light
Chapter 2
Enter the Wolves
Incident report 11-939
SCP involved: SCP-939 (Keter-class)
GOI involved: Hunters of Artemis (part of the Greco-Roman Pantheon)
Description: On 08-27-2004, agent [REDACTED], serving as an undercover field agent for the foundation, reported a possible lair of SCP-939 pack. The agent provided the location of the lair to the supervisor of his operation, Dr. [REDACTED]. The agent received an order to observe the lair from a safe distance, without the danger of being exposed to the AMN-C227-939. For a few days, the agent's report indicated no human activity near the new lair. The situation changed when the undercover field agent reported a sudden rise of the mist, used mostly by the Greco-roman creatures and their offsprings.
File 1
The following is the transcript of radio traffic between Dr. [REDACTED] and the undercover field agent.
Agent – [Following part of the transcript was redacted by direct order of a member of an O5 council]
Dr. [REDACTED] – Yes, all the data you have sent strongly indicates that we have found another lair of SCP-939.
Agent – Ordes, sir?
Dr. [REDACTED] – Observe the cave from a safe distance. Make sure that no bystanders get exposed to the AMN-C227-939. You already know what to say if by any chance you will encounter civilians. Wait for further orders. Soon, field agents will take care of the extermination of this lair.
Agent – Yes si… Sir…
Dr. [REDACTED] – Agent [REDACTED]?
The undercover field agent seems to be distracted for a moment. As of now, nothing besides the agent's sudden shift of behavior indicates any problems with the mission
Dr. [REDACTED] – Can you hear me-
Agent – Yes, I can hear you. I just… I think I just heard a horn… Or something like that. I don't know.
Dr. [REDACTED] – Can you fully explain what is going on?
Agent – There was this weird sound. And now, when I am trying to focus on the south direction, I can feel… those weird thoughts appearing. As if I should not go there. No, I guess it is more as if someone just put an order inside my head, saying 'Don't go there. Turn around, go somewhere else.'
There is a few seconds of silence
Dr. [REDACTED] – New orders. Return immediately to the nearest safe house. Do not engage either with the 939 lair's or with that new sensation. You are now being exposed to a very powerful memetic element.
Agent – Understood.
End of transcript
File 1 Addendum 1: The agent received a sudden change of order due to the possibility of being exposed to a memetic element known as the "Mist". All the data available at that point strongly suggested that Agent [REDACTED] was very close to making a contact with another group of interest called "Hunters of Artemis". Due to the sex of the agent and all the known negative interaction between HoA and males, the operation conducted by Agent [REDACTED] was suspended.
File 1 Addendum 2: Due to a high possibility of exposure of the Greco-Roman pantheon to the SCP-939, a special MTF unit was sent to deal with the lair, without the knowledge of HoA.
File 2
The following is a transcript of radio traffic between the [DATA EXPUNGED] designated as "Wolf-Actual" and the members of MTF unit Alpha-11 designated as "Wolf Brigade", after arrival on the place of contact between Agent [REDACTED] and memetic element designated as "The Mist".
Begin transcript
Wolf-Actual: Communication check, over.
Wolf-Lead: Check.
Wolf-2: Check.
Wolf-3: Check.
Wolf-4: Check.
Wolf-5: Check.
Wolf-6: Check.
Wolf-7: Check.
Wolf-8: Check.
Wolf-9: Check.
Wolf-Lead: Coms checks clear. Awaiting the orders.
Wolf-Actual: You already know everything from the Agent's [REDACTED] report. Make sure that neither Artemis nor her Hunters will not notice you. Exterminate all SCP-939's inside the cave. Destroy the cave. Neutralize any remnants of AMN-C227-939 in the area.
Wolf-Lead: Acknowledged.
For a few minutes, the Alpha-11 unit ventures deep into the forest, slowly marching towards the cave with a new SCP-939 lair. Suddenly Wolf-Lead gives the order to stop
Wolf-Actual: Wolf-Lead, why did you stop?
Wolf-Lead: Something is wrong here. I can hear something.
Wolf-Actual: You should already know that it is nothing new with dealing with SCP-939's.
Wolf-Lead: No, this is different from all those noises made by 939's. Someone is running away, coming closer to us. A human, or at least humanoid.
Soon, the rest of the squad starts to report a similar thing. After a few seconds, Alpha-11 makes a contact with what at first looks like an unknown individual
Wolf-2: Human Female on our twelve.
Out of the woods, a female looking no older than fifteen bumps into Wolf-Lead. Wolf-Lead was able to recognize the female
Wolf-Lead: [All the names were redacted to protect the personal information by the order of the Foundation's Ethic's committee]…
Wolf-Actual: Wolf-Lead, sitrep.
For a few seconds, there is no answer from any of the members of the Wolf Brigade. The unit seems to respond after Wolf-Actual repeated order
Wolf-Actual: Wolf-Lead, sitrep, do you copy?
Wolf-Lead: Copy Wolf-Actual. We have a situation. One of Artemis' hunters was fully exposed to SCP-939. She is bleeding and most likely also under the influence of AMN-C227-939. We were forced to sedate her. Permission to use the amnestic drugs?
Wolf-Actual: Permission granted.
Wolf-2 applicated class-A amnestic drugs [REDACTED], while Wolf-Lead is treating the huntress wound. After two minutes, the still-unconscious huntress was attended and left outside of the AMN-C227-939's hazardous perimeter
Wolf-Lead: Her life is no longer in danger.
Wolf-Actual: Understood. Continue your mission.
Alpha-11 reached the place where a group of SCP-939's has made a lair. As they have ventured deeper into the cave, they have noticed a dozen of SCP-939's
Wolf-Lead: Open fire.
Sounds of gunfire are heard through the comms. Within a minute, members of the Alpha-11 were able to exterminate all the SCP-939's in the cave
Wolf-Lead: This is Wolf-Lead, all 939 examples are dead, I repeat, all 939's are dead.
Wolf-Actual: Good job Alpha-11. Leave the explosives and detonate the entrance to the cave. Hammer Down will take care of the rest.
Wolf-Lead: What about the huntress? She might wake up and see our field members in action. Not to mention Artemis could start looking at her at any minute.
Wolf-Actual: Take her as far away as you can. Make sure that when she wakes up she is far enough for neither her nor Artemis to notice our agents. As for the rest of you guys, return to the extraction point. Wolf-Lead will rendezvous with you as soon as he escorts the huntress. Move out!
Wolf-Lead picks up the unconscious huntress and takes her to the faraway part of the forest. Then he uses one of the huntress distress signals
Wolf-Actual: Good job. Now go back to your team. Make sure you are not followed.
Wolf-Lead: Understood.
End of Transmission
File 2 Addendum 1: Member of the MTF NU-7 designated as Hammer Down, were able to neutralize all the remaining AMN-C227-939 gas from the forest.
File 2 Addendum 2: Wolf-Lead was able to safely return to the extraction point, without leaving a trail.
File 2 Addendum 3: All the evidence suggests that Artemis and/or her huntress were able to find the lost member of their group. Due to used anesthetic drugs, hunters were not able to learn anything about what happened that night to one of their members.
Conclusion: Incident 11-939 is another prime example that the 939 hounds operation is more than satisfactory success. Both in finding and exterminating any examples of SCP-939 specimen. Injecting field agents with AMN-C227-939 boosted our ability to find new lairs of SCP-939's groups, reducing the threat of unnecessary death of civilians to a minimum.
Alpha-11, designated as "Wolf Brigade" has proved to be a highly efficient Mobile Task Force, executing their primary order of "keeping the anomalies away from the gods' ignorant eyes" to the fullest.
And yet, it seems that there is something that has to be mentioned. [This part of the document was completely redacted by the direct order of the O5 council]
And yet, despite that, it seems that project [Classified] was more than a success.
- [REDACTED], Designated as Wolf-Actual.
Artemis was not sure what was going on.
This evening started just like every other one. Her huntress were all setting up their tents. It was time for Naomi to hunt for dinner, and so she sent her to the forest. Naomi was a very skilled hunter, so Artemis was more than sure that she was safe.
And yet, after a while, Artemis and her sisters-in-arms noticed that something was wrong. Naomi was not returning to the camp. There was no sign of her. It was as if she just disappeared into the woods.
Minutes turned into an hour, then two. Now the hunting goddess was more than sure that something could have happened to her hunter. She was about to call for a searching party when another member of her hunt pointed somewhere.
"Lady Artemis, please look at this!"
The hunting goddess immediately recognized this flare – it was one of the distress signals created for the member of her hunt, signalizing that a hunter was in a trouble.
"Phoebe, Celyn, with me. Zoe, until I return, you are in command."
A chorus of 'Yes My Lady' answered her, as she moved with her two hunters to the forest. She noticed immediately that the flair was sent from the opposite direction of where Naomi went. And soon, dark thoughts appeared in her mind – Did someone catch her? Was she tortured? Was she taken away by one of the disgusting males?
And most importantly – why she did not try to run away and go back to the camp?
After a minute, Artemis and her hunters have found Naomi. She was leaning against a tree, unconscious. Artemis tried to wake her up, but Naomi was not showing any signs of waking up. Then Artemis noticed that her left leg was in bandages.
It was something that did not make sense to her – her hunters, just like many demigods from the camps were also having some emergency nectar with them. And as Artemis found out, Naomi did not have it at all.
Artemis wondered – what happened to the nectar Naomi had? Did someone take it away? Did she lose it?
"My Lady, Naomi is waking up!"
As soon as she heard that, Artemis once again focused on Naomi. Her previously-fallen hunter slowly opened her eyes and said her first words.
"Lady Artemis?" Her voice was groggy, almost as if she just finished a marathon.
"Naomi, what happened to you? Did someone hurt you? You were not returning for a long time, and after we noticed your distress flair, we came as fast as we could."
"Distress flair? I… I did not… I did not use my flair." Naomi was now confused while Artemis and her two accompanying hunters were dumbfounded.
"Naomi." This time, it was Phoebe asking. "What happened in the forest?"
For a few seconds, Naomi looked at Phoebe as if she just asked the most ridiculous question. Nevertheless, she provided the answer.
"I left our camp to hunt for dinner. And I guess… I guess I have fallen asleep under this tree."
"Then how can you explain the fact that you are on the opposite side of the forest or the fact that your left leg is in bandages?!"
"What are you talking about? My leg is not-" That was the moment when Naomi noticed her left leg. It was just as Phoebe said – in bandages. Judging from her facial expression, she was just as shocked as the rest of the hunters. "Why… Why is my leg in bandages?"
Artemis could always tell whenever someone was lying to her. It was an easy skill any god could obtain with his or her power. But Naomi… As Artemis tried to catch any lie, to her own shock she found out, that Naomi was telling the truth. She truly could not remember what happened to her.
After a minute, Artemis finally gave the order to go back to the camp. And yet, as she and her hunters were slowly marching towards their camp, the moon goddess could not help but still wonder – who harmed her hunter? Who bandaged her?
At that moment, Artemis vowed to herself that she will find those who were responsible and make them pay.
Little did she know, that this oath was the biggest mistake of her life…
And that is it for chapter 2. I hope that you have enjoyed it.
I do understand that it looks different compared to the first chapter, so I guess I should explain a few things. This story will have a mixed style. Some chapters are going to be a pure story-like, others will look like reports and documents from SCP-Wiki and so on… I hope you like this idea.
I am not going to lie – writing an SCP story is very challenging, but I really like the SCP mythos and I hope that you will allow me to expand this story.
As of now, I think this is it. Visit my discord server if you want to know about the current progress of all my projects.
See ya in the next chapter!
