Beehiveshipping (Rebecca Hopkins/Kujaku Mai)
. . .
"T-teach me how to wear makeup!"
Rebecca actually shook a little, her face all screwed up and a little bit red, her hands in fists at her sides and her shoulders hunched around her ears. She looked like she was gearing up for a fight, not asking someone for makeup lessons.
Mai just blinked at her dumbly for a second, lipstick hovering just above her lips, her other hand occupied with the compact mirror.
"Makeup? What for?" she said. She snapped the compact shut and replaced it into her purse, along with the lipstick after it had been safely capped.
"I...I never learned," Rebecca said. "I—I want to know how."
Mai put a finger to her cheek, considering Rebecca for a moment. How old was she again? Twelve? No, it had been a few years since they had met, and she had hit a bit of a growth spurt—she looked a little gangly now, but she was going to be real tall when her body sorted itself out. Probably quite the looker, too.
"You trying to catch the eye of someone special?" she said. "Yugi-kun, maybe?"
Rebecca flushed.
"T-that's—that would be nice, but that's not actually the reason I'm asking."
Mai laughed. She ruffled Rebecca's hair briefly.
"I'm just teasing."
Rebecca batted Mai's hand away with another splotch of red spreading over her face.
"I'm not a kid," she mumbled.
"Everyone's a kid when you get to be my age," Mai said.
Rebecca rolled her eyes.
"You're not thatold."
"Well thanks for the qualifier," Mai said with another laugh.
"If—if you don't wanna teach me, that's fine, I'll just use Youtube or something."
"I didn't say I didn't want to, hun, I was just a little curious what brought this on. Makeup's fun and all, but you don't really seem like the type to be interested."
Rebecca's head ducked down so that her bangs fell over her eyes and her hair shifted over her shoulders. She mumbled something that Mai couldn't catch. Frowning, Mai leaned in.
"What was that, hun?"
Rebecca's face was completely red and she looked almost a little teary eyed. She spoke only a fraction of a note louder, but this time, Mai caught it.
"They were making fun of me because I don't know how," she mumbled. "T-they said it was cause my mom walked out and didn't bother teaching me."
For just a second, Mai's brain stopped. A cold, hard anger gripped her heart. What the fuck. What kind of fucking bitches would...
She pressed a hand to her forehead to calm herself down.
"Well, first off," she said. "You don't need to prove anything to anyone, you got that, hun?"
"I know, but—"
"And second off," she said, holding up two fingers. "When I'm done with you, you're gonna look so goddamn good that the entire world is gonna have to stop to take a breath. Are we good with that?"
Rebecca looked up quickly, eyes widening. And then—then a smile broke out over her face.
"T-thank you!" she said, grabbing Mai's hand between hers. "Thank you, Miss Mai, thank you, really—"
"Save that for after we finish the lessons," Mai said with a laugh. "Come on, you. I've got a vanity with your name on it for the day."
Rebecca's smile was so bright that Mai's heart actually fluttered. She smiled, and ruffled Rebecca's hair again before pulling her for a big hug.
"Big sis Mai is gonna take care of you now, okay?"
Rebecca flushed, but she smiled. And when she hugged Mai back, Mai felt a lightness spread through her, too.

A/N: Big sister Mai is my aesthetic, okay? Next is Bayshipping (Priest Set x Noa).
Also, I wanna take this moment to give out a brief shoutout to y'all. A bunch of you have been leaving a lot of reviews that have really bolstered me through this project. I know I bitch about it a lot in the author's notes, about how tired I am with it and with all of these crack ships, but the fact that you guys are still enjoying any of what I come up with for this is what's keeping me going. I appreciate every single one of you, every one of your reviews and comments, and I'm honestly just so glad that I've been making content that you enjoy. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day not only to read, but to leave reviews/comments. They make my day, and I feel really lucky to have readers like you. Love y'all 3
