"That's the Tennoji zoo," Hattori said, pointing out the window, "that's the Osaka some, and this.." he gestured around him, "is the Tsutenkaku tower!" He finished. "So, how is it? Osaka's great, isn't it!"

"Yeah!" Conan said excitedly as he looked through the binoculars.

"But, still..." Kogoro said. "It's kinda the same as the Tokyo tower."

"Yeah, it kinda feels like down-town Tokyo." Ran agreed.

Conan was sure it was, but it's not like he has ever really been to down-town Tokyo or the Tokyo tower, so he was quite excited by the tour, this being the first time he's ever seen something like that.

"C'mon!" Hattori complained. "Ya can't just compare the shallow and drab Tokyo to the bustling culture of Osaka! They're completely different!"

"Uh.. anyways, why don't we go get a bite to eat?" Kogoro suggested.

"In just a bit. Someone's gonna come pick us up soon." Hattori said, checking his watch.

"Alright..." Kogoro trailed off.

Kogoro and Ran went back to looking through the binoculars, so Conan saw his chance and took it. He grabbed Hattori's arm and dragged him to the side.

"So, why'd you drag me over to Osaka?" He asked. "I mean, not as if I'm not enjoying the tour, it's just that, whenever you invite me places, there's always some sort of case or something." He added.

"C'mon, can't I just spend some time with ya." Hattori said. "I promise, there's no case this time."

"Okay then!" Conan said happily, readily accepting Hattori's reason.

"Besides, I just wanted to show you guys 'round Osaka." Hattori continued. "Since we're just human y'know? We're all gonna die someday..." He suddenly said with a much more somber tone.

Conan sent Hattori a confused look. "Hey. Why are you getting all sentimental on me?" He asked.

"I had a strange dream a few days ago... As the culprit was being taken away, he suddenly grabbed a knife from the ground." Hattori paused. "Then he stabbed ya and ya died!" He said, suddenly more light-hearted.

"Hey..!" Conan laughed.

"Anyways, enough about me, what's up with you? Anything interesting happen?" Hattori asked.

"Oh, yeah, actually!" Conan said.

A couple days ago, when he had told Haibara about how he had to tell Yusaku about her, she was surprisingly fine with it. She thought it would be a good idea to tell the people who knew he was Shinichi about her, to avoid any complications in the future.

"Oh, what is it?" Hattori asked curiously.

So, with a smile, Conan plainly answered. "A member of the Black Organization transferred to my class."

"Huh!?" Hattori shouted in surprise. A few people, including Kogoro and Ran, looked over curious of the commotion, but Hattori just waved them off. "Hey!" He whispered as he crouched down next to Conan. "For real?"

"Yeah!" He replied.

"W-wait, do ya mean, your class" Hattori gestured to Conan, "or your actual class?" He pointed behind him at Ran.

It took a moment for Conan to realize he was asking if it was Conan's class or Shinichi's, but when he did he said, "Oh, my class." He pointed to himself. "Like, first grade and all."

Hattori just stared at him for a moment before asking, "So are they a kid, or do ya mean a teacher or something?"

"Idiot." Conan said. "She's the same as me; she took the drug."

"Oh, yeah... That makes sense." Hattori said with a slight embarrassed blush. "But, wait a second! You said 'a Black Organization member'!?"

"Yeah, well, she used to be one. She betrayed them." Conan then gave him a quick overview about Haibara (neglecting to include the bit where she completely fooled him and made him think she had killed Agasa).

"Man.. that's crazy." Was all Hattori said.

Before he was able to ask anymore questions, their ride, an officer, Sakata Yuusuke, arrived, and they then left to finally get some food. As they were heading down to the car, Conan heard them mention something about a case, which honestly Conan had expected. He was a little curious as to why Hattori had lied to him, but maybe he really did just invite them over for a tour and there just happened to be a case going on.

Turns out their ride was actually a police car. Now, Conan was quite fond of Hattori; he was a great friend and treated him as an equal. Yes, he was a little crazy, but Conan could admit he was just as or even more crazy than him, so he could handle it. However.. even he knew that touring a city in a police car was not a good idea.

"I feel like a criminal..." Ran said with a slight blush as she looked out at the pedestrians outside who were curiously looking at the car.

Conan would have to agree.

"Don't be!" Hattori said. "Ya haven't done anything wrong. Besides, police cars are great! They can dodge cars even in traffic, and we can go even faster with the siren if ya want." He suggested.

"Please don't." Ran quickly said. Conan and Kogoro nodded in agreement.

Thankfully, they soon arrived at the first restaurant, and it was great. The food tasted amazing, it was different than anything he's ever had in Tokyo. Ran had mentioned something about feeling like someone was watching her, but she said it was probably nothing (and Conan hoped it was).

Eventually, she had gotten her answer when they arrived at the third restaurant.

Hattori had left to go to the bathroom and Ran and Conan were chatting while waiting for their food, when suddenly a girl sat down right next to him.

"Uh, that's our friend's seat..." Ran said, but the girl just ignored her, resting her head on her hands.

She looked over at the two. "You're Kudo, aren't ya?" She suddenly said. Ran looked at her with confusion and Conan with dawning fear. "Heiji told me all about you..." She said with a smirk.

Conan, pretty much, started to panic.

That idiot!

He thought he told Hattori not to tell anyone about that! He should've known it was a bad idea to tell him.

"Ya can't play dumb." The girl continued, adding to Conan's increasing panic. "I've figured out everything..."

"Ah, w-wait..!" Conan tried to say.

But, suddenly, she leaned right over the boy and yelled straight at Ran. "Yer that 'Kudo' girl that Heiji's been talking about ever since he went to Tokyo!"

"Huh?" Ran and Conan both said, utterly confused.

"Listen up!" She yelled. "Heiji an' I got bonds of steel, so if ya wanna get with him, yer gonna have ta go through me..!"

Conan let out a small sigh of relief, realizing that Hattori didn't actually out his identity.

"Huh, Kazuha?" Hattori suddenly said from behind them. "What're ya doing here?"

When she finished explaining, Hattori burst out laughing. "Aw man, that's great!" He wiped a tear from his eye. "Kudo's a guy. A guy!" Kazuha looked down with a blush. "This girl here is his friend, so..." He pointed over at Ran.

"But..." Kazuha said. "You were talking about this 'Kudo' person so often saying you were so excited to see them, I thought..."

(Conan had to wonder how much Hattori really was talking about Shinichi for her to think he was in love with the guy.)

"Well, yeah..." Hattori sent a glance towards Conan.

"Why didn't ya invite him over then!?" She asked.

"I couldn't! He was busy!"

"Um, anyway..." Ran said. "I was wondering, what's this 'bonds of steel' you mentioned?" She asked.

Hattori then explained that, when they were children, they found some old handcuffs in their attic and had started to play with them, but they couldn't get them off. They had to do pretty much everything together, like even going to the bathroom.

After his explanation, Ran plainly asked, "Um.. are you two dating?"

Conan was also curious; they seemed quite close.

They immediately refuted, saying they were simply just childhood friends, but, to Conan, it just looked like they were in denial. Or maybe they actually were just friends; it's not like Conan knew anything about love, so.

Soon enough, they had finished their meals and headed back to the car (including Kazuha, much to the dismay of Hattori).

Conan was, honestly, quite surprised they hadn't run into a case yet. Even if he was just with Ran and Kogoro, they probably would've run into one by now. And, his dead body attracting abilities were almost doubled when he was with Hattori, so it was a miracle they managed to get this far into their tour without issue. Not like he was complaining though. He was quite glad his curse decided to take a day off.

Suddenly, there was a loud crash and the car furiously shook. He heard screams from outside, and he looked out the window to see, unsurprisingly, a dead body on the hood of the car.

Conan sighed.

Ah, there it is.

Having pretty much no other choice, Hattori finally told them what this 'case' is they've been mentioning. There had been a group of serial murders, with the guy who just fell on their car, Noyasu Kazuto, being the third. Each victim had a knife piercing their wallets, stabbed through their chest, and had been killed via strangulation. There had seemingly been no connection between the victims, until Sakata found a video of when a congressman, Goushi Soutarou, was suspected of corruption. Goushi's secretary, Nagao Hidetoshi, happened to be one of the victims and his driver was Noyasu. So, they concluded that Goushi could be involved, and decided to head over to his house to question him.

Conan wanted to go along (being the detective that he is), but he wasn't sure if he could sneak past Ran. Or, that was until Hattori had plucked him up from the ground and stuffed him under his jacket.

Well, that was.. certainly a way to bring him along. Not one he would've chosen, but it got the job done.

When they had gotten to the car, Conan took a deep breath as Hattori let him out of his jacket, startling the officer. Sakata was rightfully worried about taking the boy along, but Conan just said that he'd call Kogoro, which was enough to convince him. Conan crawled into the backseat and they headed off.

However, their plans were cut short when, calling the woman who gave them Goushi's address, Okazaki Sumie, she yelled something about how she's going to be killed with a very panicked voice. Unfortunately, they had passed her house and turning around would take too long, leaving Conan and Hattori no other choice but to rush out in the middle of moving traffic and run there themselves (which left Conan having to yell apologies to the drivers because apparently it didn't seem like Hattori was going to).

Eventually, they had gotten to her apartment, but unfortunately (and quite predictably) they found Sumie dead, with, of course, a knife stabbed through her wallet into her chest.

After a visit to the prefectural library, they found out a few things. Each of the victims had been stabbed through their drivers license which led them to discover that they had also stayed in the same camp, including Goushi and a murderer who was still on the loose, Numabuchi Kiichirou. And, on the day they had graduated, their driving instructor had died in a car accident.

So, they decided to go and question Goushi, with Conan excitedly following suit. Or, that was until he walked out of the library to see Ran with a very angry looking expression, hands on her hips, glaring at the boy.

"Conan-kun!" She yelled. "Where have you been!? We were so worried!"

Oops. He was so focused on the case he forgot to call.

"S-sorry.. I forgot to call..."

Ran just sighed, exasperated.

As Hattori looked at the group, he noticed a particular officer. "Otaki-han!? Why're you here?"

"Ah, Kazuha asked me to drive them over to ya..." He answered.

"Sakata called us so we came to pick up the kid." Kazuha said.

Conan sent an unnoticed glare to Sakata.

That was uncalled for.

"Man, yer always using the police as ya please!" Hattori yelled at the girl.

"You're the one who toured Osaka in a police car!" Kazuha argued back. (Honestly, she had a point.)

Otaki looked down at Conan. "Well, why don't we take this boy back to the superintendent's with us..?"

Conan hid behind Hattori and gripped his pant leg. "But I don't wanna! I wanna stay with Heiji-niichan!" He whined. (He was seven, why not act like it?)

Hattori nervously laughed then bent down to Conan. "Well, this is Osaka so why don't ya let me handle this, Kudo?" He whispered to the boy.

Conan glared at him. "And why would I do that?" Honestly, he didn't know why Hattori was trying to get him off the case instead of on, like he usually does, but whatever...

Hattori sighed. "Fine, I'll lend ya this." He reached into his shirt and pulled out some sort of necklace looking thing.

"What's that?" Conan asked.

"It's an omomari..." Hattori raised an eyebrow, as if he was confused that he didn't know. (Well, Conan had lived in America for most of his life, so it's not like he'd know Japanese culture very well!) "It's like a charm." He said as he placed it around Conan's neck and stuffed it beneath his shirt.

Conan gave him a confused look. That seemed a bit overboard...

"I'll give that to ya so why don't ya just go with them? I'll tell ya everything when I get back, 'kay." He stood up and headed towards the car, giving the boy no chance to try and argue.

Conan whined and acted like a petulant child who wanted to spend time with 'Heiji-niichan', all the way back to the car, but it seemed to no avail. He silently pouted and sulked as he got into the car and all throughout the ride, even (but marginally less so) when Otaki had to do a frantic u-turn because Numabuchi's car was found.

Thankfully, when they arrived, Ran and Kazuha were too busy talking with each other to notice Conan sneaking out of the car, making it much easier than it would've been for him to force his way into the investigation.

It was nearly pouring out, which was unfortunate for Conan because he didn't have any sort of raincoat or umbrella like most of the officers, but such a trivial thing was not going to prevent him from investigating (he was too petty to let that happen) and his jacket had a hood for a reason.

The officers were talking about the house nearby, saying that they checked and there wasn't anyone inside, because apparently they didn't look inside the trashcan right next to them and see all receipts that definitely shouldn't be there if no one was inside (why must a seven-year old always do the police's jobs for them?).

So, Conan plainly said, "Someone's inside that house."

"B-boy, when did you get here!?" Otaki asked, startled (which was kind of weird considering Conan wasn't necessarily trying to stay hidden and that he was walking all around the scene).

"A few minutes ago." Conan dryly answered. "Look inside that trashcan." He pointed at the bin then headed over to the house to begin searching (because, honestly, they were police officers, they could figure it out).

After a few minutes, the rest of the officers arrived in the house (having finally figured out what Conan's cryptic statements meant) just as he found a secret door to the attic. Begrudgingly, Conan climbed down from the rafters to let the police do their job, and he was right (of course); they found Numabuchi in the attic, handcuffed to a wooden support beam, begging for food.

And that was when Ran and Kazuha decided to finally come out and look for the boy.

Ran bent down to Conan and put her hands on his shoulders, worry clear in her eyes. "I told you not to wander off without permission!" She scolded.

"Sorry..." Was all he could say.

Ran sighed, then opened her mouth, clearly intending to scold the boy some more, but a loud shout suddenly interrupted her.

"Outta the way!"

Conan looked over to see Numabuchi rushing towards them, with a knife in hand, headed right towards Ran. Conan had pretty much moved on instinct until he was right in front of Ran, right in the path of the murderer.

A sharp pain exploded in his stomach as the knife made impact. He crumpled to the ground in pain and instinctively put a hand to the wound.

It, admittedly, took a few seconds longer than he'd like, for Conan to realize that the wound did not feel wet, meaning that there was definitely not enough blood for a stab wound (especially for someone who was his size and with a knife that large).

"Conan-kun!" Ran shouted worrily.

Conan noticed that everyone was all worried and frantically trying to get an ambulance, and that he was causing way too much of a scene than he should be.

"I-I'm fine." He said as he sat up. "It's just a scratch..."

"But you got stabbed!" She shouted as she lifted up the boy's shirt to inspect the wound. Her expression of worry shifted to surprise as she saw what seemed to be, like he said, just a scratch, along with an omomari hanging next to it. "An omomari..?"

"Yeah." Conan lifted up the charm and felt a hard object inside. "Heiji-niichan gave it to me." He opened it up and took out what looked to be a part of a metal chain. "This is what probably stopped the knife."

They seemed to accept that and everything calmed down after realizing that the boy wasn't in life-threatening danger.

As Conan headed out of the house, he let out a dry chuckle as he remembered the whole reason why Hattori had invited him to Oasaka. If he were one to believe in the supernatural, he'd think that Hattori had prophetic dreams and that Kazuha's charms actually worked. (He sent a silent thanks to Hattori for forcing him to wear that omomari, and berated his past self for thinking it was unnecessary.)

Conan's gaze drifted towards the guy who had nearly killed him moments ago, and he couldn't help but be intrigued at the two pairs of handcuffs he wore.

"Hey, why does he have two handcuffs on his left hand?" He asked Otaki.

"Oh, he was handcuffed to the pillar and we had no other choice but to cut them off."

Conan didn't say anything in response, too deep in thought because of what the officer had just said. He brought out the photo of the people who had graduated from that camp, and his eye was drawn to one person in particular. He felt a drop of dread fall to the pit of his stomach as he realized who the culprit of the serial murders was.

Sakata was the culprit, as he expected. Hattori had confronted him and had gotten into a bit of a scuffle with him and had ended up getting shot in the stomach.

Conan, Ran, and Kazuha anxiously rode in the ambulance, looking down at the injured teen.

"Heiji!" Kazuha worrily shouted shouted, gripping the side of the stretcher.

Ran turned to one of the paramedics and asked, "Will he be okay?"

"We're still not sure..." He answered. "We still need to extract the bullet."

"B-bullet!?" Kazuha yelled in surprise. "Sakata-han shot you!?"

"No, he didn't..." Hattori gritted out. "I tried to stop 'im from killing himself.. and a bullet happened to hit me."

Conan looked at him with a troubled expression.

Why? Why would he do something so dangerous, just to save a murderer?

Kazuha seemed to be thinking the same as she asked, "Why? Why did ya do something so dangerous!?"

"I-I just didn't think it was right.. to let 'im die like that..."

Conan just sadly looked downward. He didn't understand. He just couldn't understand risking your life for a reason like that.

Hattori quietly groaned. "I feel sleepy..." He breathed out. "Just.. lemme sleep for a while..." He weakly said as his eyelids began to close.

"W-wait! Heiji, ya can't sleep!" Kazuha frantically yelled as tears began to form in her eyes.

Hattori eerily began stock still.

Everyone just stared in shock.

"Heiji..?" A tear began to roll down Kazuha's cheek. Tears also started to form in the other two's eyes at the realization of what was happening. "Heiji!" Kazuha yelled as she bent over and hugged the unmoving form of Hattori, her tears freely flowing down her face.

Conan and Ran's tears threatened to do the same, until Hattori suddenly shot up and yelled, "Shut up! Yer so noisy! I'm trying to sleep!"

The three just stared at him in shock as he doubled over in pain.

"If he's this energetic then he should be alright." The paramedic said.

Hattori yawned as he layed back down. "I didn't get much sleep yesterday 'cause I was planning the tour. Don't yell in my ear with such an annoying voice, idiot!"

Everyone pretty much looked at Hattori with the same expression, of heavy disappointment.

He really needs to learn to read the room.

A deceptively sweet smile formed on Kazuha's face. "Sorry for having an annoying voice!" She said with restrained anger as she rested her elbow right on top of Hattori's gun wound.

Okay, Conan thought that was a bit overboard, but he thought Hattori kind of deserved it for the stunt he just pulled.

And, Conan would be lying if he said he didn't feel some sort of satisfaction at the pained scream that Hattori had just let out.
