That night, the police immediately set out a search for KID, but, despite their best efforts, they were unable to determine whether he had survived or not. The next day, in order to examine if the egg had been damaged, the exhibition was hurriedly cancelled, and everyone set out to return to Tokyo aboard the Suzuki family ship.
Thankfully, the egg was, in fact, undamaged. And they had gotten news on Hattori as well. Turned out he escaped with just a sprained ankle, and his gun wound was unaffected and healing as normal.
They all met up with the chairman and were introduced to a woman named Natsumi Kousaka, along with all the other people who were at the office yesterday before the KID heist, vying for the egg.
They learned a couple things about the egg (well, more specifically Conan found out and told everyone else). Firstly, there was a high chance there was a second egg, because the outlines of the egg on the old sketch that Natsumi had found, which was made by her grandfather, didn't line up. Secondly, the egg had a detachable mirror (which would've been nice to know before it suddenly came off as he was handling it, making him briefly panic thinking he broke it) which, when light was shown on it, reflected an image of a castle. Natsumi recognized it as Yokosuka Castle, and Kogoro deduced (rightfully for once) that it was the location of the second egg. Pretty much everyone seemed very excited at that prospect, and wanted to visit the castle when they got back to Tokyo.
After that, Ran and Conan headed back to their room and checked up on the dove that he had picked up last night.
After finding it last night, Conan had figured out that it was one of KID's doves, and was therefore much more determined to treat it with the utmost care. When he got back to the hotel, he immediately researched all about that type of bird, how to treat its injuries, what food it needs, and what stuff he needed to buy for it. Then he practically begged Ran to go out and buy all the stuff with him, after agreeing to take care of the dove by himself (which did not feel like a punishment to him, he should be honored to take care of one of KID's doves).
In their room, Conan carefully unwound the bandages on the dove's wing and smiled at what he saw. "It looks like it's healed." He held his hand out and it walked over and sat down. He gently pet its head with two fingers and it happily cooed in response.
Conan couldn't help the bright smile that formed on his face, and Ran followed suit seeing how happy the child was.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Ran got up to go get it and Conan placed the dove back in its bed. It was that arrogant filmer guy, Ryu Sagawa, who just held his camera up to Ran's face then left.. for whatever reason. Weird.
Right after.. that, Sonoko visited along with Natsumi, and the Suzuki family secretary, Masato Nishino. As they entered the room, the dove flapped its wings a bit and Nishino immediately put a hand up to his nose and hurriedly left. The others stared after him curiously.
What's up with him? Well, maybe he's just scared of birds.. or allergic.
Since Nishino just left, Sonoko forced Conan to come get the only woman out of the group who was trying to get the egg, Seiran Hoshi. She agreed to come with, and, once they got back, the girls eagerly started up conversation.
Conan was only half listening, too busy petting and pampering the dove (he was starting to get worried he was getting too attached). But, at one point, Natsumi and Seiran mentioned their birthdays, May 3rd and 5th respectively, which was kind of interesting.
Shinichi's birthday was right in the middle.
However, it would be quite idiotic to say anything about it. If he was actually Shinichi, there's no way he could just say that was his birthday; that would practically be like revealing his identity.
Eventually, Natsumi and Seiran left, and everyone was left to their own devices until the ship arrived.
However, the peace did not last. It was really about time that someone got murdered.
Sagawa was found dead in his room, shot in his right eye (just like KID), with his room completely trashed.
(Conan was almost surprised. He was hoping that KID's sort of no-murder.. uh, anti-curse?.. would stick around for a bit, but it seemed Conan's curse was stronger. Unfortunate.)
Nishino was the prime suspect because his pen was found in the crime scene, and Sagawa's ring (that he arrogantly showed off just a bit ago) was found under Nishino's bed. But, to Conan, it was glaringly obvious that he was being framed. Mainly because of the way Nishino was previously acting and the fact that he probably had a feather allergy (considering that he had a rice hull pillow and that he ran away after seeing the dove earlier), since Sagawa's room was covered in feathers from the cut open pillow.
But, proving Nishino's innocence could wait, he had a potential serial killer/sniper on his hands.
After sneaking past Ran (and also the police, but more notably Ran), he made his way to the phone section on the ship (because apparently those were the only ones that worked, why they couldn't get a signal on this expensive yacht, he didn't know) and called up Agasa.
He picked up on the third ring (the reliable man that he is) and said, "Hello, Agasa residence."
"It's me." Conan spoke, hushed, into the receiver. "There's something I want you to look into." He gave a cursory look around, to make sure no one was listening in (he was just a bit paranoid, there was a killer on board).
(But he was more worried about being caught by Ran, or, on second thought, Shiratori too. He caught the inspector glancing at him occasionally.)
"Oh, what is it?" Agasa asked.
"A sniper that shoots people in the right eye." He answered. "Possibly a serial killer."
"Alright, Shinichi. Call me back in ten minutes." He said and promptly hung up.
Ten minutes, huh? That's a remarkably short amount of time. (Well, again, he was reliable.)
Conan brought his watch out from his pocket, checked time (specifically noting what time it would be ten minutes later), and was fastening it to his wrist, when he suddenly felt a strong feeling of being watched. He rushed out to the hallway, but no one was there. Conan hoped it was just his paranoia.
As soon as he saw his watch tick, signalling ten minutes had passed, he called up Agasa again.
"I got it, Shinichi. In ICPO's crime database, I found a thief that fits the MO, called Scorpion."
"Scorpion?" Conan repeated.
"Yes, they specialize in stealing Romanov Dynasty treasures.
Their age and gender is unknown."
Conan smiled. Yep, sounds like their culprit. "Ah, thanks."
"No problem-"
"Also," He interrupted before Agasa could hang up. "Uh.. since I'm dealing with someone who shoots in the right eye, could you maybe make me something, to deal with that? Like, I dunno, uh.. bullet-proof glasses, or something?" He hesitantly asked, mostly on a whim.
He wasn't really expecting Agasa to agree. There's no way he would make him something like that; it's completely impractical. The glass would be way too thick than what could comfortably fit in the frames. And besides, there wouldn't be enough time to make it before they arrive to Tokyo.
"Of course, Shinichi!" Agasa cheerfully agreed.
Huh!?
Conan just stared at the phone for a second. "W-wait, really?" He asked surprised.
"Yeah! I can just upgrade one of the spares. I'll have it done when you get back to Tokyo."
(Wow, he really can just ask for anything, huh?)
"Actually, why don't you meet me at the Yokosuka Castle, instead." Conan added. "We're all gonna go there after we get to Tokyo and the killer will probably be there too..."
"Alright." Agasa said. "Bye then." He hung up.
After giving another cursory look around (and irritatingly finding nothing, when he was pretty certain that someone was around), Conan headed back to the others to finally help out Nishino (that's assuming the others didn't figure it out first, but he doubted that).
Unfortunately, he was right, but he couldn't put Kogoro to sleep as usual. He didn't want to risk it when Shiratori was acting this weird. He kept on giving him even more strange looks and seemed to be keeping a heavy eye on him (the feeling of being watched he felt, was actually him, although it was nice to know he was being stalked by an overly suspicious police officer and not a serial killer). So, Conan had to resort to vaguely hinting at the truth, which was always annoying, and long not to mention (because Kogoro didn't pick up on his hints very well).
Eventually, Kogoro was able to realize the truth and Nishino was no longer under suspicion.
Shiratori mentioned that one of the lifeboats had gone missing, implying that the killer had already escaped, but Conan wasn't too sure. He thought the killer was among them (because that's how these things always go), and it would be easy enough to just release a lifeboat to make them think that (and it was also Shiratori who mentioned it).
Not to mention, when Kogoro had told Conan he was decidedly not coming along to the Yokosuka Castle, Shiratori had stepped in, saying that he could potentially be useful.
Conan realized the way he was acting was worryingly familiar.
It was exactly how Ran acted when she thought he was Shinichi.
Conan wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand, he could add more to the list, on the other, he barely knew Shiratori. It wouldn't exactly be a good idea to tell someone he was Shinichi when he didn't know how they'd react.
Although, Shiratori could just be thinking that he's behind the 'Sleeping Kogoro' thing, which may be worse, he wasn't sure.
(This whole thing reminded him of the fortune he got earlier. If he were inclined to believe those things, he would think it was referring to Shiratori.)
Nevertheless, they soon arrived back to Tokyo. The Mouri's (and some of the others) stopped by their houses to drop off luggage and stuff. Conan brought in all the equipment they bought for the dove and made sure to leave sufficient food and water to last for the next few days (in case anything happened, which probably would considering his luck). He also cracked open the window (not enough to allow the dove space to leave, he still wanted to return it to KID) to give it some fresh air.
After everyone finished, they hopped into the cars and headed off to the castle.
Unlike the egg, the castle lived up to its name; it was very large and extravagant. It truly looked like something some rich person made back in the day. And they were not kidding when they said it was a castle either; it looked like a stock image you'd find when you search up 'castle' on Google images.
Eventually, everyone arrived and got out of their cars to fully view the building. Well, not everyone had arrived yet, Agasa still wasn't there; he should be here any second now.
Right on cue, Conan heard the sound of a car engine and turned to see a yellow Beetle pulling in around the corner. Right as the car pulled to a stop, Agasa opened his door to get out. Conan was about to head over to him before he saw four very familiar faces also come out of the car.
"Yo, Conan!" Genta shouted.
"Conan-kun!" Ayumi said second.
"How are you?" Mitsuhiko said third.
Conan sighed as they walked over.
"Professor..?" Ran asked, surprised. "Why are you here?"
"Well, Conan called me and I was already on the road so I thought why not visit..." Agasa answered, and then bent down to Conan. "Here." He whispered to the boy as he pulled out a pair of glasses from his pocket. "I made them, like you requested."
"Thank you." He said as he grabbed them and handed his current glasses over.
As he put on his new pair, he became quite impressed. They barely even weighed more than his normal glasses; he could hardly even tell the difference. It almost seemed as if they weren't even bullet-proof, and just had some thicker new lenses. But Conan doubted Agasa would just lie to him like that, and he has made what seemed to be impossible before (like the bowtie and the shoes and the glasses - both bullet-proof and normal - and the watch and the skateboard and.. okay, pretty much everything), so he was pretty sure they were actually bullet-proof.
The Detective Boys' (very loud) rambling brought Conan back to the present. He sighed as he massaged the bridge of his nose, then turned back to Agasa and angrily whispered, "Why'd you bring them along?"
"Oh, uh..." He nervously laughed and brought a hand to the back of his neck. "They actually snuck in while I wasn't looking..." He finished sheepishly.
Wow.
Conan sent a vaguely surprised look at the other children (that they didn't notice, too busy talking about what sort of treasures must be hidden in the castle).
He didn't think they had it in them. It seemed they were taking a bit of influence from him.
At one point (while the Detective Boys were still loudly rambling) Kogoro turned to them and yelled, "Listen up, you guys! You're expressly forbidden from going inside, got it!?"
"Yes, sir!" They all agreed, far too easily. They each had a very mischievous expression on their faces.
They were going to sneak in, weren't they? (Perhaps they were taking too much influence.)
After Haibara gave Conan an unneeded warning about Scorpion, he headed inside with the others.
Turns out the castle was no ordinary castle. It had all sorts of Kichiemon style traps and secret passages (which they found out thanks to some guy named Inui, trying to steal some treasure and accidentally falling into one).
(Conan really shouldn't have been surprised, considering the egg (which was made by Natsumi's grandfather along with the castle) also had secret mechanisms in it.)
Soon after that, they (well actually it was all Conan) figured out there was a secret basement. Well, it wasn't very basement-like. Perhaps the term secret underground tunnel would be more accurate.
Unfortunately, Conan had ended up being right, the Detective Boys had, in fact, snuck in (including Haibara and excluding Agasa). He was almost impressed they managed to find a way in, but he guessed he shouldn't underestimate a determined group of seven-year olds (plus one eighteen year old but he assumed she didn't have much say in the matter).
But more fortunately, Conan had turned out to be right a second time, there was another egg. It was found inside a fancy looking coffin, along with what was apparently Natsumi's grandmother's remains. The first egg fit perfectly inside of it, like a Russian nesting doll.
Again, it had a secret light activated mechanism. When Conan shown the flashlight through the bottom of it, it lit up into a beautifully stunning array of photos of the Russian family. The sight was truly impressive, especially for something made such a long time ago.
And if that wasn't impressive enough, it seemed it was also programmed to stop the display, because the light faded off moments later. The egg was taken off the stand and Conan grabbed back the flashlight.
The others were talking about ownership of the egg or something, when Haibara walked up next to him.
"Hey." She said to get his attention. "Rasputin's photo, it wasn't there, was it? Even though he was so close to their family."
Conan thought back on it, and yeah, she was right.
"Hmm... That's odd... And there was even one in Natsumi's grandfather's office..." He remembered.
Wait.
Conan put a hand to his chin.
Now that he thought of it, there was a photo of Rasputin in Seiran's room too. She immediately flipped it over, but that was definitely him. Now, that begs the question, why did she have a framed photo of Rasputin, and why did she try so hard to hide it?
His eyes widened in realization.
Oh.
She was Scorpion wasn't she.
He remembered someone saying that Rasputin's right eye had been injured, which lines up with the shooting of the right eye, as some sort of revenge. And her Chinese name too, it was an anagram of Rasputin, and it would make sense for her to kill Sagawa because he probably caught her photo on tape.
After his sudden realization, Conan immediately began looking around for Seiran, but to no avail. (He also couldn't find Inui, but that wasn't important). And he didn't have much time to search either, when he gasped in fear, noticing a suspicious red dot making its way up to Kogoro's right eye.
"Watch out!" Conan frantically yelled as he threw the flashlight at Kogoro.
As Kogoro tried to dodge the flashlight, he fell over, also effectively dodging the bullet. "Hey! What was that for!?" He angrily yelled at the boy, because apparently he didn't hear the, albeit quiet, gunshot that just sounded throughout the room. (Even if she was using a silencer, you could still hear it.)
Conan didn't have time to answer (or rest) when he noticed the same red dot on Ran, who was picking up the flashlight he just threw.
"Wait, don't pick it up!" He yelled, but it seemed Seiran was still focused on Ran. "Ran!"
He ran over and tackled Ran to the ground, the bullet just barely whizzing past.
After all that, everyone seemed to notice that they were being shot at, and promptly started to panic and run away. Conan managed to catch sight of Seiran, and swiftly followed after her.
Once Conan got to a narrower stretch of the tunnel, he heard a loud boom just a bit ahead. The area filled with dust as the walls started to collapse around him.
(Oh, of course she had a grenade. Probably had it with her this whole time, just in her pocket or something. Totally not dangerous.)
Conan quickly ran past, thankfully, before the rubble blocked the path.
As he rounded the corner, he quite literally tripped over Inui's dead body.
Well.. that explains where he went, didn't it? But again, not important. So Conan continued to run after Seiran without giving much thought to the dead body he just found.
Fortunately, he made it to the exit door soon enough, but unfortunately, it was slowly closing. It fully shut right as Conan made it to the top of the stairs.
Oh, joy.
But that was not near enough to stop Conan. People don't just make secret passages and not a way to get out. He gave a quick look around and, ah, there was the oddly shaped tile. He pushed it and the door opened back up.
As he was searching throughout the castle for Seiran, a very worrying smell started to permeate the building: smoke. His worries were confirmed when he made his way to the knight room. It was engulfed in flames.
Thankfully, it seemed the fire had just started. It was currently only in that room, and Seiran was conveniently there too.
Conan took a deep calming breath and hid behind a pillar to observe the situation. There were a couple empty gas canisters sitting next to her, and she was holding a Walther PPK/S gun, with a silencer attached. Walther PPK/S's had a magazine capacity of 8 rounds, so, since she used 3 bullets for Inui, Kogoro, and Ran, it was safe to assume she had 5 shots left. Unless she had reloaded with a bullet in the firing chamber, then she could have 6. (Or unless she had reloaded on the way here, but he doubted she had extra magazines with her.)
However, he didn't have much time to ponder how many bullets she had, because the fire was quickly spreading and he had to start his deduction at some point (and he would really love to get out of here before the fire spreads further).
He set his bowtie to Kogoro's voice, to start off with, and began speaking. Seiran immediately startled and started looking around for the source of the voice.
Conan explained that she was a descendent of Rasputin and in fact Russian, not Chinese, with the evidence he thought of earlier (like her name being an anagram), and that the Russian Dynasty treasures should've belonged to Rasputin, so she was taking revenge by killing people by shooting them in the right eye. He also quickly explained why she killed Sagawa and Inui.
Throughout his deduction, he switched over to many different voices (including Sagawa and Inui, to give Seiran a not so pleasant surprise), and ran around to different parts of the room (which the smoke and heat from the flames did not make easy). He heard her use up 5 shots, meaning she should have no bullets left. (Potentially she still had one left, but that was what his new lenses were for, weren't they.)
So, Conan decided to cut out the middle-man and come out of hiding.
Seiran (or who he should actually call Scorpion because Seiran was a fake name) immediately turned around after hearing his footsteps, her expression quickly shifting, clearly surprised to see a young boy standing before her, instead of an adult. She then began looking around, presumably for someone other than the boy.
"It's just me." Conan said.
"Huh!?"
"This is called a voice-changing bowtie." He said as he pulled out the item for emphasis. "It can reproduce any voice I choose." He switched it to Seiran's voice and said, "See?" To show off its function.
Her expression became even more surprised than before.
(Wow, this was fun. He never really got any opportunities to show off his gadgets like this. Agasa would be proud.)
"Huh? Wh-wha..." She stuttered. "What are you!?"
(Huh. He must be doing a very good job this time. Usually it's 'Who are you?' and never 'What are you?'.)
But still, Conan couldn't help but smirk as he answered, "Edogawa Conan, a detective." He hoped the flames behind him made him look extra cool.
"Oh.. so that earlier deduction was all you..?" She suppressed her shocked expression to something more intimidating (or at least she tried, Conan wasn't convinced. He was more worried about the fire, really). "That's very impressive, boy. But, let's cut the chit-chat. It's unfortunate, but you'll have to die." She lifted up her gun and aimed at his head.
Conan decided now was a perfect time to show off his gun knowledge. "That gun is a Walther PPK/S, isn't it? It's magazine capacity is eight rounds. You fired three shots earlier, and five now, leaving you with none left."
Scorpion smirked and let out a dry laugh. "Let me tell you something, boy. If you load an eight-cartridge magazine into a gun with one bullet already in the chamber, you'll be left with a total of nine bullets." She dramatically paused for a second as some of the building started to collapse around her. "In short, there's still one bullet left in this gun."
Well, well, well. It seemed she was smart enough to have done that. (Well, she was a professional sniper so it's not too surprising.)
Conan just smirked back. "Then, shoot." And it seemed he'd be showing off another gadget of his today.
Scorpion lifted her eyebrows in surprise and confusion, but she soon schooled her expression to a smirk. "Alright, then..." She closed one eye, and put the other to the scope of the gun.
Conan had to suppress a flinch as the light of the lazor shown into his right eye. He braced himself.
(Agasa your glasses better work.)
"Stupid boy..." Scorpion let out one last short laugh before pulling the trigger.
As the bullet connected with his glasses, Conan pretty much went flying. He let out a pained yell as he landed a few meters away, right on the edge of the flames. He immediately put a hand to his eye, because - ow - that hurt. Thankfully he didn't feel any blood, meaning he didn't actually get shot and the glasses did work. But, clearly, Conan didn't think about the fact that the glass would be right in front of his eye and that it'd still hurt like hell to get shot like that, when he suggested the idea to Agasa. At least they worked though (he'll just have a bruise to deal with).
But, Conan wasn't really expecting for there to be that much of an impact. He was more so expecting to just be pushed back a little and Scorpion would be all surprised and he'd look really cool.. but this ruined his plans, didn't it? It seemed he underestimated the amount of force a Walther PPK/S (with a silencer attached) typically had. How foolish of him.
As he felt well enough to open his eye, he noticed a large, glaring crack right in the middle of his right lense.
Well.. that was, um, worrying, to say the least. Wait.. actually, normal bullet-proof glass still cracked, right? So that was normal, to be expected.. right?
He really hoped it was.
He heard Scorpion let out a laugh and the sound of her footsteps as she walked over to him.
Oh, she thought he was actually dead, didn't she? The flames and destruction around him probably masked his slight movement.
That reminded him that he should really get up soon. If he did, he could still salvage this, and look at least a little cool, and the flames were getting worryingly large and more and more of the building was collapsing.
So he did just that, and slowly pushed himself up off the ground. He heard Scorpion let out a shocked, "Huh!?", and it looked like her expression matched. Conan met her with, what he hoped wasn't a pained, smirk (because his eye still hurt - damn it!).
(And those flames were starting to make him real nervous.)
"H-how!?" She yelled bewildered.
"Heh..." Conan fully stood up. "Too bad for you Scorpion. I had these glasses equipped with a special hardened glass." He took off his glasses for a second and slightly waved them around as emphasis. "Impressive, aren't they?"
Scorpion let out what sounded like a mix between a yell and growl. She, very angrily, aimed her gun at Conan again, which, obviously, did not scare him in the slightest, because there's no way there are any bullets left in that gun now. (Why did she even think that would work?)
(Again, the raging fire around him was far more worrying.)
But still, Conan should probably be paying attention because she was still a professional killer, working gun or not. However, before Conan could do anything, Scorpion's gun was shot out of her hand, by what looked to be a playing card.
Like one of the ones from KID's card-gun. Hmm.. interesting.
He noticed Scorpion turning around to try and run away, so he powered up his shoes, located a nice sized piece of rubble, and kicked it at her, hitting her straight in the head and knocking her out.
Wow, was his aim getting better or something?
Conan walked over to where the card landed, and watched as it burned up. Yeah, that was definitely a card from KID's card gun. Conan honestly wasn't too surprised. KID would obviously want to get this second egg, and there's no way he actually died that one night.
Suddenly, Shiratori appeared out of nowhere and said, "Conan-kun! Are you okay?"
Suspicious.
"I-I think so..." He said nervously, giving a secondary look to the Inspector.
"Good. Let's get out of here." Shiratori said as he picked up Seiran's unconscious body and started heading towards the exit (which he was grateful for, really; he didn't think he could've or even would've carried her out himself).
Conan intended to follow after him, but parts of the ceiling started to collapse from above him and large pieces of burning rubble blocked his path. It seemed even more of the ceiling was going to come down, so Conan promptly let out a terrified scream and ran away in the opposite direction, just narrowly avoiding getting crushed by falling debris.
Conan pretty much started to panic.
He started running through any clear path, without much thought. His breath started to come in short gasps as his body desperately started yearning for more sweet sweet oxygen. But the smoke was so constricting and it felt like his throat kept closing and closing and he couldn't stop coughing, and not to mention it was hot.
Through almost near delirium, Conan somehow made his way to a room with marginally less fire and smoke. He nearly cried in relief as he noticed a window leading outside. He opened it up (after a bit of panicky fumbling) and flopped out into the ground.
He took many much needed large, greedy breaths. He laid there for a while, to just calm down and replenish his strength. When he felt like he was able to move, he crawled away from the window that was spewing smoke (and consequently the castle itself). He made his way over to a nearby tree and sat down by it. He looked back at the castle, and, after a flash of panic, promptly looked away.
Conan decidedly did not like fire. Actually, no, he needed a stronger word. Like hate, or despise, or loathe. Fire tended to remind him of.. bad memories.
And what was making it worse was the fact that, through his brief look at the castle, it looked like the flames had just managed to make it to the outside of the building, meaning that if he had taken just a bit longer, he probably would've been done for.
He couldn't help but think about how easily he could've died (and also his parents' deaths) which he knew was a very bad thing to be thinking about in this state, but he just couldn't help it and there was nothing to distract himself with.
Or, that was until he heard someone call out his name, "Conan-kun!" He looked over to see Shiratori, or, more accurately, KID, running towards him with worry.
Oh, that was a perfect distraction. Right on time too.
"Are you okay?" He looked worried. Conan couldn't help but be glad that KID was worried about his wellbeing.
"Y-yeah..." Conan dishonestly answered as KID helped him up. He managed to notice that Scorpion was not in the vicinity. "Where's Scorpion?"
"Ah, I handcuffed her in the police car. I need to take her down to the station, so could you give this to Natsumi for me?" He held out the egg.
Conan took it. "Yeah."
He sent KID a sly, knowing grin as he headed over to the car.
'I need to take her down to the station'. Yeah, right.
Well, he'll just let him escape, for now. He wasn't really in any condition to do so anyway.
After he watched the police car drive off, he walked over to Agasa's cat and sat down behind it, facing in the direction opposite of the castle (because out of sight, out of mind).
In the meantime, until the others made it out, Conan mainly thought about KID and fiddled with the egg (he hoped Natsumi wouldn't mind) to distract himself.
Eventually, he heard some faint voices, which he assumed meant they had gotten out. Soon after, he heard what sounded like the Detective Boys, worrily shouting his name. He was confused, until he remembered that he was not within their eyesight, so they probably thought he was still inside the castle and had burned to death.
And, he felt reasonably well enough to be able to look at the castle and not start panicking, so he came out from behind the car and called out, "I'm over here, you guys!"
"Conan-kun!" They yelled in relief. He made his way over to the others.
"Are you okay?" Ran asked, noticing the clear eye injury that was forming on his face. "What happened?"
"I'm fine." He lied, again. "Some rubble just fell on me, that's all." He figured it wouldn't be the best of ideas to mention that he had actually taunted a serial killer into shooting him.
Agasa gave him a concerned look, being pretty much the only one who knew what actually happened. Conan shifted the weight of the egg to one hand, and used the other to take off his glasses and deposit them in his pocket. The large crack right in his vision was getting annoying and the weight of the glasses on his eye was kind of hurting.
"Shiratori got the egg back from Scorpion." He said as he held the egg in front of him.
"Shiratori did?" Kogoro yelled down at the boy. "What happened to Scorpion?"
"Arrested and taken to the station." He plainly answered. "Scorpion.. or Seiran-san, that is." He added for dramatic effect.
A cacophony of, "What!?"-s and other exclamations rang out from the group (the loudest and most disappointed being Kogoro).
Conan walked over to Natsumi. "Here." He held up the egg. "I was told to give this to you."
"Thank you." She grabbed the egg from him.
Conan faintly heard the sound of fire truck sirens in the background, which did not help his predicament, and in fact made it worse. It started to remind him of.. things.. that he did not want to be thinking about at the moment.
So, Conan promptly looked away and tuned himself out of the conversation, forcibly thinking about something other than fire.
Or, that was until Kogoro said, "-KID, that is..."
Conan back zeroed into the conversation, after hearing the thief's name.
"I wonder if he really died..." Conan looked over to Ayumi to see her sadly staring at the castle.
Conan scoffed. "Nah.. that guy's still around..." He said with confidence.
After that, everyone (minus Conan, who was trying to keep his gaze away from the destruction) just solemnly watched as the castle burned away into the night sky.
