Babbleshipping (Jonouchi Katsuya/Kisara)
. . .
"So you're like...Kaiba's dragon, but you're a girl?"
She didn't seem to be able to completely understand him, screwing up her face and narrowing her eyes in concentration, staring at his lips with as much focus as she could muster. She moved her own lips as though repeating the sounds he was making.
Jonouchi didn't know much about her. Apparently one of Kaiba's weird-ass experiments had resurrected her or something, and now she was living at Kaiba Manor. Her name was...Kisara, right. She certainly looked like some kinda gijinka of the Blue Eyes, pale skinned, blue eyed, and with impossibly fine, metallic platinum blue hair the same color as the dragon's scales. She was dressed in one of Kaiba's dark blue turtle necks and jeans, which were both a half a size too big for her and made her look smaller than she was. Her knees were folded up under her on the bed, across from Jonouchi where he sat backwards on the desk chair. He didn't really want to be here, Yugi had dragged him along again to go talk to Kaiba about his new game, and the two of them had stormed out together in an argument that required confirmation from one of Kaiba's simulators to settle, leaving Jonouchi with the girl that barely spoke Japanese.
Well, it was a chance to get to know someone knew, he supposed.
He licked his lips and tried again—she didn't speak Japanese, after all.
"Are you a dragon?"
She squinted, and then her eyes lit up.
"Dragon," she said excitedly. That was a word she knew. Living with Kaiba, how could she not? Jonouchi resisted the urge to roll his eyes. God, this was honestly like some weird ass otome game plot line—Kaiba's long lost reincarnated love who just happened to be the female version of his favorite dragon.
"You like dragons?" he said, trying to think about talking slower. "You and Kaiba must get along then."
Kisara nodded slowly, her eyes lighting up as she understood the words. It was kind of cute how excited she was by understanding language.
"Like dragons," she agreed. "Like Seto also."
She pointed at herself. He half-laughed. She was earnest, and she was trying really hard. Kaiba barely deserved her. Barely. He hesitated, and then dug into his pocket for his deck box. He popped it open and shuffled through, picking out the card he was looking for.
"What do you think of this dragon?" he said, turning Red-Eyes' card towards her.
Her eyes widened and her lips parted. Her fingers reached for the card almost reverently, and then she glanced up quickly to Jonouchi to see if it was okay to take the card. He smiled and nodded. She gave him a tiny smile back, then carefully took the card from his fingers and brought it closer to her. She traced one finger over the holographic art.
"Beautiful," she said.
He felt a faint swell of pride.
"Isn't it?" he said. "Red-Eyes and I are good pals."
Kisara smiled. She pressed the card briefly to her forehead. She whispered something—something that Jonouchi could barely heard, and couldn't understand. It was a language he had never heard before, one that make his skin shudder and his hair stand on end.
She smiled and handed the card back.
"Loves you," she said.
"Huh?" Jonouchi said, hesitating in between taking the card back.
Kisara smiled. She slid off of the bed and walked barefoot across the carpet to him. She pointed to Red-Eyes, and then to Jonouchi.
"Loves you," she said. She smiled. "A lot loves you."
Jonouchi felt his lips part. He stared at the card of Red-Eyes, at the dark dragon and its eyes glittering up at him. In spite of himself, he felt...tears pricking at his eyes? What was that about?
He rubbed at his eyes with the back of his arm.
"Thanks," he said.
He could almost sense Kisara smiling at him, but his strange rush of emotion prevented him from feeling like looking. What a strange girl, he thought. He liked her.
