Azureshipping (Kaiba Seto/Mazaki Anzu)
. . .
"Don't worry. I won't let the media know you're here."
She gave him a wink that he wasn't sure was sarcastic or not, but he'd take it if it meant not getting sold out to the media goons who were still trolling the street outside, wondering where Kaiba Seto had disappeared to. Seto sent her a faint grimace that was almost a smile—Anzu half grinned back at him, reaching up to fix the hair tie of her mandated coffee shop uniform.
"Anyway, what can I get for you?" she said, leaning over the register. There was something wholly ordinary about the way she talked to him, like any other customer, and having just escaped the hounds of war outside, he found it incredibly refreshing. "Or are you just here to hide out?"
"I won't be loitering, if that's what you're implying," he said with a light sniff.
For some reason that made Anzu grin, and he rolled his eyes. He made a brief glance of the menu. The letters were so small, they were hard to see from here, but at least there were pictures.
"Give me one of those pink and purple ones, I can't read what the fuck it's called."
"The unicorn frappe? Wow, news flash twist: Kaiba Seto has a sweet tooth."
"Is there a problem with that?" Seto said.
Anzu just laughed.
"Of course not. I feel I should warn you, though, that it's ninety nine percent sugar and one percent coffee."
"Then it's perfect. That's about how much sugar coffee needs to be palatable."
Anzu laughed again, looking actually surprised in a pleased sort of way. She tapped out on the cash register the order and the price popped up. Seto didn't have cash on him so he just passed her his credit card.
"It'll be out in a sec. Should I write your real name on it, or do you want a code name in case there's some bugs in the café?"
"Just put Seth; you'll probably misspell it anyway."
"Excuse you," Anzu said, drawing up in mock offense. "I am a wizard at spelling people's names right."
In spite of himself, Seto found himself cracking a half smile. She talked to him so easily, normally and without any anger or distaste, like was usually hidden under the surface with Jonouchi and Honda when he ran into them.
It was kind of refreshing.
Not that he'd tell her that.
"I won't keep you from your job any longer," he said, walking back from the desk to find a table.
"One super sugary not-coffee for the CEO, coming up in a sec," Anzu laughed.
Seto just rolled his eyes and left to find a table.
Still, this coffee shop was pretty close to his work, and an easy enough place to hide in if and when he got cornered by the media again on the way to work. Maybe he'd stop by again.
