Axisshipping (Kaiba Seto/Siegfried von Schroeder)
. . .
Seto didn't care who Mokuba wanted to hang out with. No matter his own feelings on the subject, he wasn't going to interfere with Mokuba's choices of friends; his brother had earned that much.
No, the only reason he was really upset about Mokuba's new friendship with Leonhart von Schroeder was dealing with the other Schroeder.
The only light in Mokuba's room right now was faint and glowing—his computer screen, probably. He needed to start turning on his light when it got dark outside. Just staring at the computer screen was going to mess up his eyes. Seto leaned into the room to tell him as much, just to find his brother with his face on the keyboard, snoring.
Seto let out a soft huff that was almost a laugh. Geez. He walked into the room, planning to carefully move his brother off of his chair and into bed. His eyes caught on the screen, though, and he realized it was turned to a video call, and on the other side of the screen, Leonhart was also fast asleep, his head lolling back over the back of the chair. There wasn't too much Seto could do about a kid on the other side of the screen in Germany, though, so he just shook his head and moved to pick up Mokuba. He'd turn off the screen after that and send a message to let Leon know that Mokuba had fallen asleep too.
After a few moments of struggling with his brother—gods, he was getting bigger—Seto finally came back to the screen, breathless.
Just in time to see the blinked surprise of Siegfried von Schroeder leaning into the camera.
For just a second, they stared at each other. For another second, Seto thought he was going to see that stupid, self-important smile spread over Siegfried's face and hear his annoying, accented voice say something that he thought was witty and scathing.
But none of those things happened—Siegfried just sent Seto a tired, awkward smile, gesturing at Leon.
"They get so big so quickly," he said, in a far softer voice than Seto had imagined him capable of having. "I can barely move him—I'm very surprised you could get Mokuba to bed."
Seto shrugged, feeling a little surprised at the normalness of the encounter.
"I've had to carry him since I was barely bigger than him," he said. "You get used to it."
Siegfried chuckled softly.
"It seems I have some catching up to do on the big brother front, then," he said. "I should get Leon to bed. I won't keep you."
"You weren't. But I won't stop you from taking care of him."
Siegfried smiled with that same awkward tiredness, and then he reached for the button to end the video call.
Seto sat there in front of the dark screen for a while, just looking at this own dark reflection. He let out a soft huff.
Maybe he's not as annoying as I thought.
