Youko couldn't stop smiling. She held her parents' hands as they walked through the first floor of the mall.
She glanced up at Bakugo, then Deku, tugging on her mother's hand.
"Mommy?" Izuku beamed. He adored his new title, deeply touched by his daughter's request to use it.
"Yeah?" He replied.
"Is it okay to give Grammy Inko a present for Mommy's Day, and why won't Daddy buy Grammy Mitsi one?"
"Yeah, Sunshine. A lot of people give their grandmas a present for Mother's Day. As far as your dad goes, he's not much of a gift-giver." Deku explained.
" You said I was a present from Daddy, and he got us pretty flowers and good things." The girl pointed out.
"You're a different story," Bakugo added." It's my job to make sure you have what you need. Sometimes, that means getting stuff to make you happy. I wouldn't be a good dad if I let you go without the things you need, would I?" Youko grinned.
"You're the very best one!" She cried out.
"Damn right," Katsuki smirked. Youko gazed around at the stores.
The mall was crowded with patrons busily rushing to their destinations.
"Mommy, can we get Grammy Mitsi a present too?"
"He always does, "Katsuki scoffed, "Not sure why." Izuku sighed.
"Because you won't." He said, "I think you've forgotten about everything our parents do for us. It wasn't just my mom that helped us get through school. We need to show them we appreciate all the support and everything they did to help us with Youko. A lot of people stepped in to make our family possible. It would be nice to let them know how much that means to us."
"It's not like you haven't said it enough in the past five years. The hag knows if she gets anything, it's cause you bought it."
"Even if that's the case, Your parents were there for us just as much as my mom was. You never even said thank you to them.
It wasn't their responsibility, and neither one of us would be where we are right now if they weren't there.
They could've told us we're on our own and good luck. Not everyone has someone backing them up like that. " Deku replied as the family turned into a jewelry store and began to look around at the necklaces and earrings in the display cases.
"Remember what we talked about," Katsuki grumbled, "Nothing real expensive. I know there are a lot of sale signs in the mall, but that doesn't mean it's not costing us a ton. Don't take all day either. We still have that...thing we're gonna do after this."Deku nodded.
"This shouldn't take long. I already have an idea of what I'm looking for." He insisted.
"You keep telling yourself that. Last time you knew what you were looking for, we were here for six hours." Bakugo complained.
"It wasn't six hours. We were here for three at the most." Izuku corrected, "And it was partly your fault. You decided to take Youko to the toy store and let her look around."
"It was better than hanging around the other place. I'm gonna take Little Ass Kicker and go wander around for a while. Call me when you're done. We'll meet you at the food court." Deku turned to his daughter, kneeling in front of her.
"Are you up for that, Youko?" He asked. "Do you think you can keep your dad out of trouble? It's a big job." Youko nodded.
"I can do it. I'll take care of Daddy!" The child announced happily, grabbing onto Katsuki. Izuku smiled.
"Make sure he doesn't get lost, okay? Go have fun. I love you."
"Love you, Mommy, pick something very pretty for my grammies!" Youko waved her free hand as Katsuki guided her out of the shop and into the corridor.
"Here's the plan," Bakugo said, leading his daughter to a bench. They lowered themselves onto it, facing each other.
"Your mom's gonna take a while to look through stuff. That gives us time to have a look around too. We can play like we did last time, or you can pick out a present to give Deku for Mother's Day. We won't have time to do both." Youko grinned.
"Mommy's day present!" She cried excitedly, her arms raised above her head.
The child looked at her father thoughtfully, "What kinds of presents do mommies get?"
"Whatever you feel like giving them," Bakugo said, "It doesn't have to be specifically a Mother's Day present. It can be anything you think he'll like. Where do you want to look?"
"Hmm," Youko placed a finger to her chin, gazing around the area, "Can we buy ice cream? Mommy likes to have ice cream parties with us."
"That's true, but we have some at home. We can eat some when we give him a present."
"Can we see upstairs? I don't think Mommy will like the down here things. We should go in the ellelators," Youko suggested, pointing to the object.
"Those are escalators," Bakugo explained, "Yeah, we'll probably have more luck up there." They stood up, making their way toward their destination.
"This is so fun!" Youko cried out, "It's a Daddy and Youko adventure!" Bakugo smirked in amusement. He watched his daughter look down at the shoppers as they ascended to the second level, finally stepping off of the device.
Youko grabbed his hand, pulling him in the direction of the department store.
"We should check here, and then we can go to the bookstore, and-"
"You're gonna drag me to every store in this place, aren't you?" Bakugo asked.
"Until I find something special for Mommy." the child confirmed, dragging him inside, "I have to find something extra special." Bakugo stopped, causing Youko to turn around.
" You know, it doesn't have to be complicated," Katsuki said, " Deku loves everything you give him, even if it's just a hug.
If you don't see anything, We can always go to the craft store later. You can make a picture or a card. Don't get frustrated if you don't find it here." The child bowed her head.
"Mommy never had a Mommy's Day present before, and I don't want him to be sad!" She said.
"Youko, Deku's not gonna be sad. You could give that Nerd a rock, and he'd be just fine.
Do you remember last night when he said you gave him everything, asking to call him mom?" Youko nodded, "He meant that. If you show him you're happy, he will be too.
You're the most important person in the world to that Nerd. That's the best thing you can give him."
"I just want to make a good mommy's day, "Youko said.
"You already did. You're here, and that's enough for Deku." Youko smiled faintly up at her father, taking his hand.
"Thank you, Daddy. can we go that way, please?" She pointed to the right.
"The toy section?"Bakugo asked.
"We have to look everywhere!" Youko exclaimed.
"Is that it, or do you just wanna look at the toys?"Bakugo asked.
"Yes!" Katsuki gave his daughter a pointed look.
"Which one is it?"
"Both!" Bakugo sighed heavily, following her into the aisle.
Youko wandered through the aisle and paused in front of the coloring books. She scanned the selection carefully.
"Mommy likes to color with us." She pointed out, "Do you think he'll like this one?"She selected a book with a purple cover, holding it out to her father.
"You wanna get him a unicorn book?" Bakugo smirked.
"Yes, They're so pretty. We could color together, and you can too!"
"There's no way in hell I'm coloring a damn unicorn." Katsuki scoffed. Youko narrowed her eyes at her father, turning back to the books.
"I think he will like pencils instead of crayons cause he likes to write things down a lot."
"Yeah, but don't you wanna look around a little more? There's-"
"And this one!" She held out a second coloring book, "I know him." Youko grinned, pointing to All Might.
"He was at my birthday when I was a baby. Mommy showed me pictures." Bakugo nodded.
"Yeah, he was, he was around the day you were born too. I think most of the teachers came to your first birthday. We had your party in the dorms." Katsuki looked through the book, pausing at another familiar face. "You remember him?" He knelt in front of her, holding the book out to the child.
"Eraser man!"Bakugo smirked.
"Almost. Eraser Head. You met him too. When we were still in school, we used to take you to your grandma Inko during classes, and we'd get you after school. One day, we had an important test, and she was sick, so your mom was gonna stay in our dorm with you.
He wasn't gonna be able to take it later, so our teachers told us to bring you to class. You started crying in the middle of the damn test, and Eraser Head walked around the room with you so we could finish.
He called you Problem Child two. You got that from Deku, he was the first one." Youko giggled.
"Will you tell me more stories?" She requested, "About when I was a baby?"
"Maybe later," Bakugo said, "We have a lot of crap to get through today. We still have to meet up with your mom."
"Why?" Youko asked, tilting her head.
"There's something we need to tell you. You don't need to worry. It's a good thing."
"Promise?"
"Yeah, I promise, "Bakugo assured her, lightly ruffling her hair. He stood up, handing the book to his daughter. "You sure this is what you wanna get him?"
"I don't know. I know Mommy will like it, but I want to make something. I didn't get to in school, and I was sad."
"Yeah. I know you were," Bakugo sighed heavily. "Tell you what, just cause you're my kid, we'll drop Deku off at home, and then we can make a trip to the craft store." Youko latched onto Katsuki's leg.
"You really are the best daddy ever!" She cried. Before Bakugo could reply, his phone rang. He pulled it from his pocket and glanced at the display before holding it up to his ear.
"Done already?" He asked, "Must be a new record."
"Kacchan, we have a problem," Deku said quietly.
"What problem? If you spent-"
"No. It's not that. I just saw our moms. They didn't see me, but I have the bags from the store. If I walk out now my mom's going to see me, and the surprise is going to be ruined and-"
"Relax, Nerd. We're on our way. I'll deal with the stuff. Where are you?"
"Still in the jewelry store. I was on my way out when they walked by and-" Bakugo laughed.
"Just hang out there. We'll find you." He ended the call, turning to his daughter.
"Come on, Youko. We gotta go save your mom, He's-" Youko pulled Bakugo over to a display of picture frames, pointing to a glass frame. The object had room for three photos and words printed in elegant letters above the middle photo.
Youko dragged her father toward it, carefully taking it from the display and holding it out to Katsuki.
"It's pretty!" She exclaimed. "Will Mommy love it? I know it's for pictures, and mommy takes a lot of those. Can we have it for Mommy? What does it say?" Bakugo took the object from her.
"To the world, you are a mother. To our family, you are the world." He read out loud.
"What does that mean?" Youko questioned.
"It means he means a lot to us, and we love him very much." Youko grinned.
"Can I have it for mommy?" Youko pleaded. "Do we have special pictures for it?"
"You sure this time? this is what you want?" Youko nodded excitedly.
"Yes! But can you help with my pictures?" Bakugo handed the frame to her.
"You leave the pictures to me, I know where we can get some special ones. But remember, it's supposed to be a surprise. That means we can't tell him about any of this." After paying for their items, Youko and Katsuki made their way back down to the first level, finding Deku hiding behind several customers.
"You're such a Nerd," Bakugo chuckled, taking the small bags and placing them in his own.
"It's not funny, Kacchan. They could've seen me, and then what are we supposed to give them?" Deku pointed out in annoyance.
"Mommy?" Youko tugged on Ddeku's hand, causing him to look down. "Can I see?"
"When we get home," Deku said, following Bakugo out of the store. The family began their journey.
"You should've seen yourself, Deku." Bakugo taunted. "It was so pathetic. You were in there-"
"Katsuki, Izuku!" Bakugo's smile faded instantly at the sound of his mother's voice. They turned to see Inko and Mitsuki approaching them. Youko waved happily.
"Grammies!" She cried, racing into Inko's outstretched arms.
"The hell are you doing here?"Bakugo growled.
"It's nice to see you too, Katsuki," The blonde woman replied, narrowing her eyes at her son. Deku reached out to embrace his mother.
"Did you see that? Izuku's happy to see Inko, what the hell is wrong with you-" Izuku shook his head as the fighting continued.
"So what are you two doing down here?" Izuku asked, in an attempt to ease the tension.
"Mitsuki wanted to check out the sales and asked if I wanted to come along. It's funny, I was just thinking about calling you to invite you three to dinner tomorrow." Inko said, hugging Youko.
"I'll run it by Kacchan when he's done arguing. I don't think we have plans."
"We could be here a while. I've never seen two people fight so much in my life." Inko said. After what felt like hours, the group found themselves seated at a table in the food court. Inko bought ice cream for everyone.
"Daddy?" Youko called, taking a bite of the brownie. "What do you and Mommy want to tell me?" Bakugo exchanged glances with Deku.
"We're all here, you might as well tell them." Inko turned her attention to her son.
"Izuku, what's going on, Sweetie? Is everything all right?" She tried to keep the concern from her voice.
"Yeah. It's just-"
"You're pregnant?" She guessed. Izuku shook his head.
"No, Mom, geez. It's not that."
"Better not be. There's gonna be some problems if he is."
"Oh no! Is mommy in trouble?" Youko frowned.
"No! I'm not- why is that the first thing that comes to you guys?"
"Some of our friends are grandparents now, their kids have a couple already. You can't blame us for hoping." Mitsuki replied.
"Be grateful for the one you have, I told, She's the only one you're gonna get," Bakugo said. Mitsuki opened her mouth to reply but was interrupted by Izuku.
"Can we get through this, please?" Mitsuki fell silent. After a moment, Bakugo and Deku turned in their chairs to face Youko.
"Deku and I have a problem, and we need to figure out what to do about it. Think you can help us?" Youko nodded.
"I'm smart, I can help. What's wrong, Mommy and Daddy?"
"Deku," Bakugo said shortly, earning a glare from his lover. "Deku's really weird."
I am not. Why do you always have to be so mean?"Bakugo smirked but ignored him.
"You know what makes your mom super weird?" Youko shook her head.
"There are three people that live in our house, right?" The child nodded.
"Mommy, Daddy, and me." She replied.
"Right. When you were born, I gave you my last name, so it's the same for us. But Deku's over here with a different name. Which makes him the weird one. What should we do?" Youko tapped her finger to her chin thoughtfully. Inko seemed to be catching on, tears were already filling her eyes.
"Like the people on tv? The ones Grammy Inko watches?"
"Kind of like that, yeah."
"Daddy, you should ask Mommy to marry you so he won't be weird anymore." Bakugo chuckled.
"He'll still be weird. But-" Youko instantly turned to her mother.
"Mommy, will you please marry my daddy? then we can be a family."
"We're already a family, Sunshine," Deku said gently. "But yes." Youko stood up, wrapping her arms around her parents and pulling them close to her.
"Today is so happy! Yesterday I got a mommy, and today Mommy and Daddy are being married. I'm not sure what it means, but it looks like a good thing on tv!" The child cried.
"Izuku, my baby!" Inko sobbed, "I'm so happy for you." IZuku's face turned an embarrassed shade of red.
"Calm down, Mom, we're in the middle of the food court." Bakugo took out his phone, beginning to type a message while Deku busied himself with Inko. A moment later he pressed send.
Mitsuki felt a vibration from her pocket, removing her own phone and glancing down at the display.
I need to talk to you about something later. She glanced over at her son in confusion. The boy never asked to speak to her. Her curiosity would have to wait, however, the message would lead Mitsuki to wonder what he had planned.
