Conan used to be unsure whether Kaitou KID had actually planned this or not, but he was certain now.

Inviting six famous detectives out to a mansion in the middle of the mountains, then telling them through a speaker to find some treasure left behind - of which whoever found it first would be able to escape - and recreate some tragedy that happened years ago (which he would've thought was fake if not for the copious amounts of blood splattered throughout the mansion), and kill each other - and also apparently blow up their cars and the bridge - was a very weird and un-KID-like thing to do, but still technically possible if he were kidding about the killing each other and blowing up the cars thing.

However, killing someone? No, just no. That's where the line is drawn.

Out of the two heists he went to, KID has never done anything remotely close to harming another person, let alone killing one. And from his research, he's heard that KID even goes out of his way to make sure no one gets hurt, the closest thing coming to it being the various traps he lays out for his task force.

So, needless to say, Kaitou KID had not planned this. It had to be someone else who was using KID as bait or a scapegoat. And that also meant that KID was most likely disguised as someone among them, and there just so happened to be someone who was acting a bit differently than usual. (Although, technically any of the others could be acting differently and he would be none the wiser, it's not like he knew any of them well enough to know how they act.) It would make sense. KID has never been known to smoke, even in any of his disguises. So, he's just going to assume KID was disguised as Kogoro until something else proves him otherwise.

Conan had already been extremely skeptical during the whole banquet thing (which was thankfully very delicious and worthwhile) and was about 95 percent sure it wasn't KID, but this just just cinches it, bumps it up to that 100 percent.

The 'gourmet detective' Oogami had screamed, clutching his throat, and collapsed to the ground just moments prior.

At first, it hadn't seemed genuine, because Mogi pretended to get poisoned to death just before that, as some sort of messed up joke or something, but this time it looked much more real.

It seemed the others noticed (well except for Mogi who still thought it was a joke). Hakuba was crouched down next to the body, a finger pressed against his neck. After a few seconds, he brought his finger back and pulled out a fancy looking but well used pocket watch. "Cardiac arrest, 10:34:51." He said.

(Down to the seconds? Really?)

"Huh?" Mogi looked at him, surprised. "Hey, are you serious?"

Ikumi leaned down over the body, and began lifting up and turning over various parts to investigate it. "Hmm.. purple lips, more words.." she muttered, "cyanide poisoning, it seems."

Conan inched closer to the body as Senma checked Oogami's tea with a coin. He leaned closer to Oogami's hands clenched by his neck to get a better look, as he noticed something peculiar with his nails. He swiftly grabbed his hands and unfurled them, almost expecting Kogoro or someone to come and drag him away, but fortunately it never happened (yet another odd thing to add to the list). Oogami's thumbnail was very short and it's edge was ragged, as if it had been bitten; he had a nail biting habit.

Well that explained the murder method then.

Conan stepped away from the body, making a mental note to keep his hands far away from his face until he could wash them, as, unsurprisingly, Senma revealed that there was no cyanide in the tea.

Then, the speaker person-thingy that the organizer was supposedly speaking through had started spouting some more cryptic bullshit that Conan didn't really care much about. But apparently Mogi did, getting mad enough to go up and grab the thing by the collar and shake it around, which Conan wasn't exactly sure what he thought that was going to accomplish.

The head fell off and clattered to the ground, a cassette tape tumbling out of it.

Conan smirked.

"A cassette tape?" Mogi asked.

Senma leaned down and picked it up. "Looks like it's linked to a timer."

"So the culprit wasn't speaking to us in real time," Hakuba said pensively, "and was instead playing a pre-recorded tape..."

"Then, they intended to kill Oogami-san from the start..." Ikumi realized.

"That means the culprit could be one of us, then!" Conan cheerfully added.

Everyone startled and whipped their heads towards the boy.

Conan really hoped they were surprised that a child was the one to say that, and not that the culprit could be one of them, because, really, it was quite obvious.

"What do you mean, one of us!?" Kogoro - or should he say KID, yeah he should probably say KID now - asked.

(Well, he figured he had a pass. He wasn't a detective like the rest of them.)

"Yeah!" He beamed at KID. He might as well enlighten him and explain things. "They could've just recorded the tape beforehand and then eat at the banquet and pretend to listen along with everyone else!"

"Ah..." KID said, looking down at him.

"So, the culprit made Oogami-san consume cyanide without any of us noticing." Hakuba glanced down at the body.

"But the question is how," Senma said, "since there was no reaction from the tea."

Huh, it seemed no one else noticed Oogami's nail biting habit yet.

"Could the poison have been on the cup's rim instead?" KID suggested.

"No." Ikumi said as she pulled on a pair of gloves that she apparently just had on her this whole time. "He drank from this cup a few times before." She picked up and inspected the cup a bit.

"U-um." Ran spoke up nervously. "Isn't the culprit you're talking about Kaitou KID..? But I've heard he doesn't kill..." She glanced down at Conan. He ignored it.

"Yes," Hakuba answered, "as far as I know, this is the first instance."

For a split second, Conan was incredibly mad, because Hakuba of all people should know this wasn't KID, until he realized he was probably just saying that to trick the culprit into thinking he still thought so.

Ran worriedly glanced at Conan again, but, again, he didn't return it.

He knew he should be mad about that even being suggested (and he still was), but the only ones there who knew he was a KID fan were Ran and KID himself. Like Hakuba, it would be best for him to let the culprit believe he still thought it was KID.

"Well," Mogi suddenly said, pushing himself up off the ground, "nothing'll be resolved just talking about this. Why don't we go see if our cars have been blown up or not?"

"True," Senma said, "those explosions we heard could've been a bluff."

Unfortunately, they weren't.

All of the detectives dejectedly watched as their cars burned away in large fiery glory. Conan really hoped the fire would stay contained to the cars and not spread to any buildings, like, for example, the giant mansion they were all standing next to (honestly, did the culprit even consider that).

"M-my rental car!?" KID said in fake shock (although in a bit less shock than he would imagine from the real Kogoro - it was getting a bit obvious at this point).

Surprisingly, none of the others, even Mogi, appeared to be that sad that their fancy expensive cars were literally being burned to ashes. It seemed they were more worried that their only forms of transportation out of there were gone (which, yes, was a valid concern, but seriously those were Ferraris and Porches and stuff like that being destroyed, and those things are expensive).

Or, well, that was until the maid remembered that her car was parked in the back, potentially safe. And turns out it was. Conan, and probably the rest of the detectives, found it suspicious that the culprit just so happened to forget about this one car. Nonetheless, none of them were concerned enough to not utilize this perfectly usable car left.

"Then, let's go check whether the bridge has been destroyed too." Senma suggested as she opened the car's front door.

"Lemme come too." Mogi enthusiastically said.

"I'd like to come as well." Hakuba said.

"Me too!" KID said.

"Hey, hey." Senma complained. "Too many people will sink the boat."

"True." Hakuba agreed.

"Why don't we decide with a coin flip?" Conan said as he reached into his pocket and rummaged around for his wallet (which was really just a coin purse - Ran didn't think he was old enough to have a real one). He pulled it out. "I have some coins with me!" He turned it upside-down above the car's hood, shaking out five coins.

"My, how thoughtful." Senma reached for a coin. Oddly enough, she reached past all the coins and grabbed the one furthest away from her. It just so happened to be the one coin there that would react to cyanide.

Conan's eyes immediately zeroed in to her at the action. He glanced around at the others; they all had a similar expression. So they noticed too.

Conan started keeping a close eye on Senma (through his peripheral vision). As the others started grabbing their coins, she reached into her pocket and brought out something small, her hand closed into a fist.

Everyone then brought their other hands up, preparing to flip their coins. Senma secretly placed the item on the back of her other hand, and hid it by placing her flipping hand on top of it.

Conan watched as Senma flicked her coin up into the air. It flew up, along with the others, however, instead of being caught, it unceremoniously fell to the ground. Senma clapped her hand onto the back of the other, catching thin air. Yet, when she opened them, there was a coin. A coin that looked suspiciously similar to the coin she used to test Oogami's tea. Unsurprisingly, it was facing heads up, meaning she was going.

Based on the looks on the other detectives' faces, they saw too. That Senma wanted, or had, to go to the bridge enough that she faked the coin toss.

Senma casually hopped into the driver's seat, as the other two who won, KID and Mogi, got in.

None of the detectives were surprised when they were told Senma had died in an explosion. Although, they all knew that wasn't true.

The detectives gathered by the mansion's entrance and began whispering with each other, leaving out Ran, the maid, Kogoro (who they may or may not know was KID), and also Conan (which he was a bit offended by even though he understood).

KID sidled up next to him, looked down at him, then plainly asked (still with Kogoro's voice), "You know, don't you?"

Conan looked up at him with large, innocent eyes, and giggled. "Know what?" He gave him a very cheeky grin, making it obvious he knew.

(He wasn't sure if he was asking if he knew he was KID or if he knew who the culprit was, but both applied.)

KID sighed and brought a hand to his forehead. "What gave me away?" He asked, now instead with his KID voice.

"You never smoked." Conan said simply.

"Oh?"

"Not even when you weren't around Senma," he explained, "or after she 'died'." He air-quoted the word 'died' but he wasn't sure KID noticed.

"Ah..." KID said.

"Well, I still wasn't fully sure. You technically could've been anyone else, but Kogoro was my best bet." He paused for a second, before asking, "Why'd you reveal yourself to me though?"

"I was pretty sure you knew it was me. I mean, you kept smiling all happily at me and I know you don't do that with this guy." He explained, pointing at his face. "I also wanted to know who the culprit was, and apparently you, and those guys," he jerked his towards the groups of detectives, who were still secretively whispering to each other, "already know. And you were the least pretentious here, so."

"Hey!" He said in mock offense. "You say that as if I still am pretentious."

"No offense but it kinda comes with being a detective." KID chuckled.

Conan crossed his arms. "Tch, I guess..." He agreed. Now that he thought about it, detectives were kind of pretentious by nature.

(Maybe he did choose the wrong career field.)

"And, you were also the least likely to reveal my disguise or try to catch me, or whatever." KID added. "Or, at least I think..." He looked down at him and lifted an eyebrow, with a twinge of nervousness.

"Oh, don't worry I won't." He reassured, leaving the 'yet' part out. "I mean, you haven't really done anything."

"Thanks." KID smiled. "So, tell me, who's the culprit?"

"Oh, it's Senma." He answered casually.

KID's face was almost funny, his eyes wide and mouth slightly open, although he seemed to be doing a good job of taming it down. It looked like he desperately wanted to show more expression but wouldn't dare risk it.

After a second he schooled his expression even more, and plainly said, "But she's dead."

"Well, you were there." He said smugly. "Did you actually see Senma in the car when it exploded?"

KID's eyes widened in realization. "Oh..!"

"Also make sure not to touch your face." Conan added. "Especially your mouth."

KID lifted an eyebrow. "Why?"

"There's cyanide on your hands." He stated. KID's eyes widened as he brought out and looked down at his hands for a second. Then, he promptly clasped them behind his back, keeping them far away from his face. "It was a part of the trick she used to kill Oogami." He continued. "There was poison somewhere on the utensils. Oogami had a nail biting habit so he was the only one who died. Although.." he said nervously, "not sure how she knew the rest of us didn't have a similar habit..."

(Unless she didn't, which was even more worrying. Honestly, what if someone just happened to touch their mouth for some other reason, like bringing their hand up in shock - which could've very easily happened when Oogami died.)

"Thankfully the maid wasn't at the dinner then." KID added.

Conan looked over at the maid, who was currently nervously biting her nails. "Ooh, yeah."

A comfortable silence fell between them. Neither of them said anything, just watching as the others talked amongst themselves about whoever knows (probably something about Senma and what they're going to do next if he had to guess).

After a while, KID broke the silence. "So.." he began casually, "whatcha been up to?"

Conan just blinked, nonplussed. "Eh?"

"What? You haven't been to any of my heists lately." He said. "Can't I ask what my bud's been up to?"

Conan paused, internally freaking out that KID basically just called him his friend and trying his best not to let that show externally, then lightly shook his head to jostle him out of those thoughts. "Sorry, I just wasn't expecting..." He trailed off, motioning with his hand.

"So, anything new?" KID continued. "Got anymore people in that game of yours?" He grinned.

Conan paused for a second to process what he meant, then dejectedly sighed. "Quite the opposite actually."

"Oh..?" The grin wiped off his face.

"A couple people actually found out I wasn't Shinichi." He paused in consideration before adding, "Well technically it was three, but apparently she knew the whole time, or for a while at least, so..."

"Ah.. that sucks."

"Yeah.. kinda hard to keep up the identity when Shinichi himself shows up out of nowhere."

KID winced in sympathy. "Ooh, I get that..." He paused, with a funny look on his face. "Wait, there's still one more, right?" He realized.

"Oh, yeah, Hattori still thinks I'm Shinichi, but.. it's only a matter of time until one of the others tell him." He said sadly.

"Isn't he another one of those high school detectives?" KID asked. Conan nodded in response. "That's still pretty impressive though. Tricking a detective, even when the real person is there." KID smiled at him. "I don't think I could even do that."

Conan blushed. "It's not that impressive..." He looked away. "You're exaggerating."

"I'm not!" KID reached down and playfully ruffled his hair.

Conan giggled, swatting his hand away.

The two fell into yet another comfortable silence, watching the group of detectives again. Except, this time, they all weren't amiably whispering to each other, and instead most of them had a hand on their chin, looking as if they were thinking very hard. In fact, they all looked a bit troubled.

"They look troubled, don't they?" He voiced.

"I guess they don't know what to do, huh." KID said. "Can't blame them. Senma is the only one who knows how to get outta here."

"I.." Conan started, "I may have an idea."

Conan was very surprised they went along with his idea. It was a pretty insane, and bordering on the nonsensical, idea, in his opinion.

Basically, they would pretend to 'reenact the tragedy' like Senma said and kill each other using ketchup as fake blood (assuming it would look real through the cameras). Then, after everyone had 'died', Conan would cut the cameras to the computer room, type in that he found the treasure, then go meet up with Senma and try to coerce the way to escape out of her. They were hoping she would be more sympathetic and willing to give out the answer to a cute little child. Ran and the maid would be left out considering the more morbid nature of the plan.

Honestly, Conan was surprised they would even let him do any of that in the first place, but it seemed him figuring out Senma was the culprit was proof enough of his abilities for them.

Although, none of them appeared to actually like the idea all that much, it was just the only one they had to go with.

Case in point, Hakuba.

The way it was decided, Hakuba, and also KID, would be killed by a gunshot. Everyone had started to prepare for the plan (after thoroughly washing their hands) during the limited time they had before Senma got to the camera room. And that included the fake ketchup blood KID and Hakuba had to apply.

KID had already squirted the ketchup into his suit (or, well, Kogoro's), ready to squish out later, with pretty much no hesitation and had handed off the bottle to Hakuba.

Hakuba had the bottle held up by his chest, holding his suit open, ready to squirt the ketchup in. His grip noticeably tightened. However, his face screwed up in disgust before he brought the bottle down, his arm limp, and slouched down in defeat.

KID brought a hand to his mouth to try and stifle his giggles. He looked down at Conan and gave him a thumbs up.

Conan's mouth slightly quirked up in amusement - it was pretty funny - but he was mostly confused. He lifted an eyebrow. "You don't like Hakuba?" He whispered.

Conan had always thought KID was more affectionate towards his.. detectives or pursuers or whatever, like himself.

KID paused. "Ah, well..." He said (with Kogoro's voice, just in case any of the others close by heard), looking up in thought. "Kinda..." He settled on. "He's a real prick, but.. in an endearing sort of way."

"Ah..." He said in understanding. "So kinda like you then." He added, just for a bit of fun.

"Hey!"

Conan just grinned mischievously up at him, before turning back to Hakuba.

Hakuba had the bottle held up, poised to squirt it in again. He looked more determined this time. He screwed his eyes shut and turned his head away, then squeezed. A measly shot of ketchup fell into his suit. He shuddered. He placed the suit back in place, and shuddered again, looking horribly disgusted. He stiffly closed the bottle's cap and placed it on the table next to him.

KID stifled another laugh. "Hey, hey!" He said. "You're gonna need a lot more ketchup than that to make it look realistic."

Before Hakuba could react, KID walked over, grabbed the bottle, and squeezed a hefty amount into Hakuba's suit himself.

Hakuba clenched his hands into fists and gritted his teeth as yet another shudder passed over him. He paused, stiff as a board. In all honesty, he looked as if someone had just squirted a ton of ketchup down his shirt.

KID closed the bottle again and patted Hakuba's suit into place. "There you go!" He grinned, taking far too much enjoyment out of that, as Hakuba looked like he was desperately trying to restrain himself from murdering KID right then and there.

KID walked back to Conan, doing a horrible job of hiding his laughs and paying no mind to the daggers Hakuba was glaring into the back of his head.

Conan would've been worried that Hakuba clearly seemed to know he was KID, but he was far too amused to care. Although he was doing a much better job of hiding his amusement than KID was.

KID gave Conan another thumbs up, smiling brightly.

This time Conan returned it.

Surprisingly, his plan was actually going quite well.

They had broken off into a couple groups. Ikumi went with Ran and the maid in order to 'take them out'. She'd then go and 'kill' Hakuba, and pretend to die from the poisoned needle trick on the doorknob in the computer room that they discovered earlier.

Meanwhile, Conan and KID went with Mogi to investigate other areas of the mansion in order to actually figure out what the secret treasure was so Conan could tell it to Senma. The puzzle pieces all fell into place when they found the message left in blood on the piano (courtesy of the luminol Ikumi brought).

Then, the gunshot sounded signaling KID and Mogi to complete their part of the plan. They rushed out of the room, Conan staying behind.

He waited a few moments, then started slowly making his way to the computer room, trying to stay out of sight of the cameras, as best as he could (he figured Senma would be too occupied watching Mogi and KID 'kill' each other to notice). He passed by Hakuba (trying his hardest not to laugh at the sight of Hakuba pretending to be dead, laying in a puddle of ketchup, looking horribly disgusted) and up the stairs. He cut the wires to the camera and peeked his head in, seeing Mogi, Ikumi, and KID all with wide eyed 'dead' faces.

"Cameras are off." He announced, opening the door further and heading into the room.

"Phew!" Mogi sat up, rubbing at his jaw. "Thank God. That expression is not easy to keep."

The others stood up and walked up to Conan as he hopped into the seat and began typing:

'I've solved the treasure's cipher. I want to tell you in person, come to the dining room.

The 7th Detective'

He pressed enter.

"Remember kid," Mogi said condescendingly, "from 12 AM, 13 left, 11 right, then 12 left."

The initial cipher that Senma had given them, along with the blood message they found on the piano, essentially contained directions on how to turn the hands on the clock in the dining room to get whatever treasure was hidden there. Which was something Conan had known and figured out without the help of any others.

"I know, I know..." He grumbled, sending a glare to the detective.

Ikumi chuckled. "I don't believe he needs to be told."

At least someone recognized his smarts. Honestly it's not like he was trying to hide it.

Mogi glanced at her. "Heh.. true."

Conan ignored that and hopped off the chair, heading back out the door to the dining room.

Things went pretty much as expected with Senma. She denied everything at first, but after he completed his deduction (a bit pretentiously, he will admit - maybe KID had a point) - which just included stuff like how she faked the coin toss and the way she killed Oogami - she eventually confessed.

40 years ago, Senma's father had been called to the mansion by the millionaire that owned it, Karasuma Renya, and was asked to find the treasure hidden within it for large sums of money. However, he discovered that Karasuma had hired many others and had started to kill them one by one in the mansion, which he told Senma in an encoded letter. Senma had told that to Oogami and he came up with the plan to invite detectives to the mansion to solve it using KID as bait. But, she figured out he had planned to kill everyone, including Senma, once the treasure was found, and so she had to kill him.

Senma sighed dejectedly. "But the result is the same as 40 years ago.. the cipher hasn't been solved and the tragedy has just repeated itself..."

"No," Conan said confidently, "it seems your dad did solve the cipher."

"Huh..!" Senma said, surprised as Conan climbed into the top of the fireplace behind him.

"Don't you find it odd?" He crouched down, glancing at the clock behind him. "This is a huge mansion, yet there's only one clock..." He quickly explained the initial cipher her dad left and the blood message's code and how to turn the clock's hands. "And so.. if you turn the hands accordingly..." He stood up and began circling the hands around.

When they reached the final point, there was a click and the clock suddenly fell off the wall. Conan flinched back in surprise as it clattered to the ground. He hopped off the fireplace and picked up the clock. "The coating's come off..." He mumbled, brushing some of it off. He gasped. "It's gold inside..!"

"To think my father died over something so trivial..." Senma lamented.

"Well?" Conan asked, looking over his shoulder at Senma. "You promised. Tell me how to escape."

"There never was such a thing..." She said. "I intended to die here."

Conan had to stop himself from frustratedly groaning. He had a slight feeling that might have been so, but he was really hoping it wasn't. It makes his whole plan for naught, after all.

A very arrogant, "Thought so." from Mogi came from behind them. Senma whipped her head towards the door, staring shocked at each of the supposedly dead detectives (including KID), all looking smugly at her. "Senma-obasan..." Mogi finished.

Senma was speechless.

"And this was my best suit too..." KID grumbled, lifting up his ketchup stained suit (clearly just acting because he was just fine tormenting Hakuba before).

Hakuba huffed as he wiped the ketchup by the corner of his mouth with his handkerchief (not sure why he didn't do that before), actually irritated. "That's why I said this child's play was pointless." He said with clear, undisguised animosity.

"My, you should give your complaints to the boy." Ikumi said. "He's the one who thought she may reveal it to a kid, after all."

Senma looked behind her at Conan, surprised. He smiled brightly at her.

She turned back to the others. "So.. you did all of that just to..." She trailed off.

"Yeah, we thought you might kill whoever solved the cipher." Mogi said.

"That you wouldn't let us out even if we were alive." KID added.

"Hey." Ikumi suddenly interrupted, sounding a bit worried. "Does anyone else.. hear that?" She asked.

Everyone stopped and listened. There was a faint, almost rumbling noise, sounding like it was coming from the mansion.

"Ah!" Hakuba said in realization. "That must be the helicopter I called for."

Everyone stopped and stared at him.

"What do you mean you called for a helicopter!?" KID yelled.

"Why didn't you tell us earlier?" Ikumi tiredly asked.

"We wouldn't have had to do all that!" Mogi shouted.

As much as Conan didn't like how much they seemed to dislike his plan (it wasn't that bad, like come on) he had to agree with them.

Hakuba put his hands up in a placating gesture. "I-I wasn't sure if it would work..." He weakly said.

Conan paused and stopped listening when the rumbling noise became louder. It almost sounded like it wasn't just from outside, like it was surrounding them, like there was a second source. Again, coming from the mansion. If he focused enough, he could almost feel the mansion shaking.

He glanced around, partially to try and find where it was coming from, and to see if anyone else noticed. He failed at both.

He hoped the helicopter would arrive soon. That was.. unsettling, to say the least.

Weird...

The helicopter had finally arrived. They all eagerly hopped in, now flying just above the mansion.

"He didn't end up coming, did he..?" Ran said. "Er, Kaitou KID, I mean." She added.

"Oh? Did you want him to?" Ikumi playfully asked.

"Ah, no..." Ran glanced down at Conan.

However, Conan was too busy staring at KID sitting in the seat in front of him, to notice. He readied his hand on his watch.

He watched KID glance over his seat at Conan. Conan smiled brightly at him, then lifted up his watch in a pointed motion. It caught KID's attention; his eyes shifted down to his hands. Conan flipped the watch face up and tapped the button on the side a couple times, his finger hovering threateningly over it.

He might've said he wouldn't try to catch KID back then, but now was a different time.

KID's eyes slightly widened in fear. He promptly turned back around in his seat.. only to come face-to-face with Hakuba smugly smirking at him.

The only reaction Conan could see was KID minutely scooting away from Hakuba, but he could imagine the panicked expression on his face.

Then, suddenly, a loud shout followed by the noise of the helicopter door opening, sounded. Conan immediately looked over to see Senma jumping out of the helicopter. Next thing he knew, KID was jumping out after her.

He heard Ran worriedly shout, "Dad!?" As he rushed over to the door.

He watched as KID caught Senma, his hang glider springing open, shedding the disguise. He held the watch up, aimed at him, but he wouldn't dare risk shooting him.

KID had gotten away again, but he couldn't bring himself to be frustrated, a slight smile forming on his face

Although - "Shit." Hakuba cursed under his breath - it didn't seem his opinion was shared.

They all continued to uselessly watch as KID slipped away yet again, to varying degrees of frustration. Soon, he dropped Senma, revealing she was tethered to the helicopter with a rope, KID flying away.

A hefty, distant thud and an even louder rumbling sound (other than the helicopter) brought everyone's attention back to the mansion. The outer walls had crumbled off, showing pure gold hidden underneath.

The Sunset Mansion.. he mused.. no wonder.

Conan backed away from the open door into safety and turned around to head back to his seat, but stopped when he heard a quiet gasp. He looked over to see Ran staring out at KID with her mouth agape, like she came to a sudden realization. She then slowly looked down at Conan, her eyes sharpening into a glare. Conan took a nervous step back.

"You knew," she stated, "didn't you."

Conan's eyes widened, as he took a sharp intake of breath. He nervously looked to the side. "A-haha..." He laughed, his voice going up a few octaves, as he placed a hand behind his neck.

That was all the confirmation she needed.

"Conan-kun!"
