Ladies and gentlemen! I humbly welcome you to the third chapter of this story!
Please enjoy and review!

By the time Kaito regained his composure, enough to appear like nothing had happened at least, the class had already started. The teacher wasn't happy with him being late, but more importantly, it turned out that Saguru wasn't in class at all. At least Kaito could feel consoled by the fact that he wasn't the only one shaken by what had occured.

Throughout the lesson Aoko had been giving him the sting eye but he wasn't in the mood to interrupt the lesson and confront her about it. Especially that it was all too easy for him to guess what it was all about…

"What did you do to Hakuba-kun, Bakaito?" She burst out at him, slamming her hands over his desk, even before the teacher managed to gather his things and leave the classroom after the lesson had ended.

"Seriously? Why do you believe it has to be my fault when something happens?" She gave him a flat glare in return so he just rolled his eyes. "Well, it's not ALWAYS my fault!"

Out of the corner of his eye he noticed the teacher fleeing the room in a hurry, probably anticipating chaos and not willing to be a witness to it, since he would be obliged to try and stop it. Kaito snickered at the thought, which Aoko obviously took the wrong way, as she pointed an accusatory finger at him and shouted.

"You did something! Now tell me!"

He slapped her hand away from his face. "You flatter me, but this time it wasn't my fault," well, it kinda was. Probably? But not in the way Aoko thought, so this was close enough to the truth. Sadly, judging by her glare, she wasn't buying it. "Honestly! We were just talking and he left. Don't you think that if I could make that prick run away, I would do it more often?"

She frowned at him, arms crossed over her chest. "Why are you always mean to Hakuba-kun?"

He felt his eyebrow twitch. "He started it!"

"Well, you deserve it, Bakaito!" she quipped back.

He glared at her. Some friend she was… Under the desk, he flicked a confetti bomb at her, which exploded causing her skirt to fly up. He quickly leaned to the side, as she shrieked while trying to cover herself.

"Oh~? Red polka dot? Are you feeling adventurous today, Ahoko~?" He sang out, announcing his findings, already moving to flip to the side to escape her wrath.

His back, however, proetsted wildly against such acrobatics and instead he fell over hitting the desk next to his with his shin. Before he managed to gather himself up, Aoko assaulted him with her bag. He covered his head to protect it from the onslaught.

"Ouch! Ahoko-! Ugh- Stop!"

She finished with one last, light this time, hit and huffed. "Serves you right, pervert! And tonight I'm making fish for dinner!"

At least he had a valid excuse not to come over, he thought idly. This was definitely not his day. "What are you carrying in that? Rocks instead of books?" he grumbled towards her back, as she left him nursing his bruises on the floor.

After school he still walked her home.

Since dinner at Nakamoris was out of the question, he was free to just go home and fix something for himself to eat later. When he closed his front door, he rested his head over the wood and closed his eyes. Finally, there was nobody around, so he didn't have to bother holding up a facade anymore. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. What mess did he get himself into this time? He leaned over the wall in the entryway and just slid down to the floor, feeling exhausted.

The big question was - did he believe that his classmate was really a dragon? As in: a huge-ass, scaled and flying lizard? That was "a tiny bit" too far-fetched, even by Kaito's standards. But how else would the guy be able to reference things that happened in his dream? And how was he supposed to go on confirming any of this?

The easiest way would be, obviously, to corner Saguru and question him more thoroughly. But if he did this wrong, the guy might again suspect him of being KID and… whoever he was looking for. What was that all about anyway?

Kaito frowned, prompting his chin. Saguru was babbling on and suddenly started… smelling him..? He had gotten close before that happened, so maybe he smelled something off about Kaito? But what? It's not like the guy ever had an opportunity to get a good whiff of KID either. So maybe he was expecting some sort of smell, which Kaito did not carry in the first place?

Saguru did mention that he came to Japan to search for someone and catching KID was just an excuse… So whoever he was looking for was most likely native to the region. But considering he had failed to find any of their kind in two years, they must have been pretty rare. They were probably something equally supernatural as a dragon, so maybe a youkai of some sorts? Not that it narrowed anything down… Kaito wasn't an expert but he knew there were tons of different stories involving youkai and he had no way of telling which had any truth in them. He didn't think there was much point in even attempting to do any research unless he had any hint about what he was looking for.

So what made Saguru think that KID was the one he was looking for?

Slowly he raised his head, staring into the wall before him. He recalled the sensation of soaring right before he should have crashed into the building. If the dragon had caught him, Saguru would have no reason to doubt that he was KID, nor would he have woken alone in his room. And now Kaito's back muscles were hurting like hell. So what? He grew wings, or something? He scoffed at the idea. If that were the case, then where were they now? Then again, there was no sign of scales or claws on Saguru either… But, surely, he would have ripped his shirt and jacket if something like that happened, right..?

Wait… Jacket?

Kaito cursed under his breath and scrambled from the floor to rush to his room. He had put the gem in his breast pocket and he didn't have the jacket on him when he woke up!

When he stumbled into his room, he hastily unlocked the mechanism securing the hidden passage and opened it. That done, he paused for a moment breathing heavily and staring into the dark and narrow stairway. He couldn't help but notice his pants and dress shirt, laying discarded on the steps. Swallowing thickly, he leaned over and picked it all up to carefully examine. Surprisingly enough, there were no unexpected tears or any other damage that could be attributed to anything other than him doing his regular acrobatics and tricks during a heist. A smudge here, a loose threat there and a small tear on the cuff, which he remembered happened as he tried to gracefully slip out of a vent. So it looked like he could at the very least exclude sprouting wings, he concluded with relief and again turned to the stairs, walking towards it. Slowly, he walked down. The lightswitch was on the bottom, so he had to be carefull, unless he wanted to fall down, like he did the first time when he discovered the place.

Light flooded the hidden room once he flicked the switch on and almost immediately he noticed the white jacket laying almost innocently on the desk, near the stairs. Kaito blinked surprised and walked over to pick it up. That was… surprisingly easy. A quick search revealed that the gem was still resting in the pocket he left it in and, similarly to the other parts of his KID suit, there were no suspicious holes or tears on the garment. While it was nice that he wouldn't have to go on a wild goose chase to find the jewel, it didn't really help solve the more interesting mystery. Kaito felt kinda disappointed and placed the jacket back on the desk, turning around to lean on it and think some more.

Now, what was he… His thoughts came to a sudden hold as his gaze fell on something, he was sure as hell wasn't there before.

Scratch marks. Leading from the outside exit, towards where he was standing right now. His breath fastened as he recalled feeling completely exhausted, scared… A vague memory of trying to get home, soaring in the sky with the wind caressing him and then crawling on the ground… wanting nothing more than to hide in his bed…

Slowly, he pushed himself off the desk and leaned over one of the scratch marks, touching it. It wasn't very deep but it was wide. Nearly enough for two of his fingers to fit in it. He got up and carefully followed the trail, searching for something, anything that could clue him on what… What was going on? Why now?

He reached the entrance, wide garage doors that were sealed shut. He walked over and touched the frame, sliding his hand along it to make sure it was secure and found something. It was a strand of hair. Vivid indygo in color, just like his eyes.

Just what in hell was he?
