Dib hummed to himself, he tapped his pen on the paper before him, lost in thought.
The past days both tried to see if there was a way to stop the damage, they tried normal medical pills, they tried making something useful in the lab, and Zim tried to examine him with his PAK. But nothing, they couldn't find a way to stop it or to see what it's doing on exactly and if it was increasing or stopping.
The human knew it was increasing.
He sighed and looked at Zim who was sitting beside him at the table, the irken was on his computer, it didn't take him time to know how to use it, well, kind of.
"Th- th- there must be a way!" Zim hissed, frowning, "You can't just die of stupid coffee!"
"It's not the coffee-"
"I don't care." Zim snapped, cutting Dib's words.
Dib sighed, "Why are you angry anyway?" He asked, studying the irken.
"I dunno. Maybe b- b- because you're dying!" He threw his arms in the air, glaring at Dib.
"Do you actually care or is it just because I'm your escape ticket?" Dib murmured the question, ashamed, but his paranoia won't let him rest and he had to ask.
"I'm almost finished with my Voot." Was Zim's answer as he went back to the laptop.
"So you care?"
Zim sighed heavily, "Why wouldn't I?"
"So it's a 'yes'?"
"Yes."
Dib smiled warmly at him, feeling whatever hope he had increase, his cheeks reddened slightly with joy, it even made him forget about his headache.
He went back to his papers, his smile never fading.

Few days after this, he went with his sister to get pizza, as usual, he noted how she kept eyeing him, looking for any dangerous signs.
Dib shrugged her off saying he was fine. His head was in pain but he could pass, well, almost. But he had to hide his dizziness when she's around.
He got home late that night since Gaz decided to go buy some clothes for a party and makeup, forcing her brother to pay, because, like she said, 'why not'.
It's not like it mattered to Dib, both had money to serve them for life and in only a few months before Dib would have his own company fully under his hands, he wondered what he would do with all the money he's going to have.
There were even a few girls from his company trying to flirt with him. He hissed at the memory, they only start paying attention to him when they knew he's rich. Disgusting.
Looking at himself in the mirror, he couldn't help but note his pale face that was now much paler with a hint of yellowish tone to it, and red circles under his eyes. He looked like he had some bad flu.
He washed his face with cold water, trying to refresh himself. That's when his nose started to bleed.
"Shit-"
He put his hand on his nose, seeing that didn't help stop the bleeding, it ran down his hand and fell in the sink. Panic rose high in his vines, he ran to his bedroom and got some tissues and wiped the blood away, he kept doing that for a moment before the bleed stopped thankfully. Dib sighed heavily, his legs felt numb from the panic, he looked at the tissues, their white color was now dark red.
Oh no...
Dib couldn't sleep that night.
999999
"Okay, now you look like a zombie." Zim teased him, titling his head to the right.
"I didn't sleep last night." Dib yawned, rubbing his eyes as he headed to set his laptop on the table and work. Brushing his hair from the snow since it started snowing last week.
"And w- w- why is that?"
Dib looked at Zim, he remembered when Zim said he cared, so he didn't want to make a big deal about it and somehow get the other upset and freaked out. Funny how they cared yet too stubborn to show any, would sleep in each other's arms and act like it's normal, they'd hug, cuddle, and even kiss and never speak of it, making the whole process not awkward at all but rather sweet and comfortable. "Had a headache."
Zim's antenna twitched, "Are you s- s- sure that's all?" He asked suspiciously.
"Yeah," Dib half lied, he then walked lazily to sit in the table's seat, opening his laptop. "I'll work on some things here, you can see your Voot if you want,"
"Okay, but c- c- call me when you want to see this whole 'coffee' problem- m- m." Zim said, walking out of the room.
"Will do."
999999
Zim stretched his muscles, he'd been working in his Voot for hours straight, the human didn't come to see him this time. After putting everything in place, the irken made his way through the halls then to the main room, his eyes landed on Dib, who was sleeping on the table, head resting in his arms.
He must have been too tired to keep up.
Ignoring it, Zim sat in the main seat, deciding to chill down and rest, he watched cartoons with his half disguised robot before falling asleep.
He woke up hours later, seeing it was still afternoon, and Dib was still sleeping, Zim went back to work in his ship, not having anything better to do.
"Awww, Mary is a sleeping beauty!" Gir poked Dib's head lightly, smiling sheepishly at him,
"Gir get down!" Zim snapped as he came into the room, it was around 5 PM and Dib didn't seem to be waking up any time soon.
"He needs a kiss to wake up again!" The SIR unit held both hands in front of his face before hugging himself.
"He needs no such thing, humans just like sleeping a lot." Zim assured him while picking the robot in his arms and walking back to the main seat, he sighed and rubbed his eyes then plugged himself and decided to watch cartoons till he sleeps, it's not like he has anything better to do.
It was now around 10 PM now, Zim awoke and felt hell bored, the human would usually talk to him or they'd work together. Now he was just... sleeping.
A creeping thought came to the irken's mind and he stood up, walking towards the pale boy, who somehow looked much paler. "Dib?" He called.
No response.
Remembering humans anatomy, Zim placed his fingers on Dib's neck, feeling his heartbeat.
It was there, Dib was alive, thank tallest! He can't die pathetically like that! "You humans are so odd..." he murmured, poked the boy's head then headed back to the seat, deciding on a horror movie to cheer him up.
999999
Zim looked down at him, he stared wide-eyed yet blank at Dib. Who, of course, and so suspiciously, still in his spot, didn't move, just slept.
Since yesterday.
Now it was 9 PM, the boy slept for more than 32 hours. Humans don't sleep that much, do they?
Should he wake him up? Zim didn't know.
"Diiiib!" He whimpered dramatically, leaning to poke his shoulder, "Wake up!"
Yet, nothing.
So he started shaking him, from slightly to strongly, but the human was... cold? His hands were pale and freezing, Dib's hands were always warm. Was that normal?
Zim began to panic, his teasing smile melted, "Dib?" He brushed the boy's hair off of his face, he was still wearing his glasses, though now they're slightly broken from his head weight. "Dib?!"
The alien picked the human with ease by his shoulders, revealing his face.
Zim gasped, almost letting go.
Dib's face was sickly pale, cold, and his nose was bleeding heavily, leaving a trail of blood on the table and his face.
"D- Dib?? Dib, wake up!" He shouted, panicking, not knowing what to do, he sat in the human's lap, cupping his face in his hands, feeling his temperature, it was freezing, though he noted that his forehead was burning. He kept brushing the hair away, taking a deep look into his face. The blood was still running, it made Zim's fingers bloodied. "DIB! Holy irk...! Please wake up!"
He didn't realize this, but his eyes began to itch, threatening him with tears.
"Oh no! Mary is bleeding ketchup!" Gir interrupted, somehow sounding worried. Zim ignored him.
"What should I do? What should I do?!" His body was shaking, legs feeling like noodles, "He can't be dying-! No, he's just- just-..."
Picking the heavy human, he put one arm on his shoulder and the other around his waist, Dib's body just hanged, lifeless. Zim started walking slowly, he kept glancing at him while he walked to the exa-room, he got there and placed the human besides a table on the floor, then looked around for something, anything that might help.
But he knew nothing about humans. Let alone this new brain virus he has.
The Irken stood there, mouth open. He really didn't know what to do...
He could call the medical drones called 'hospital' but he can't risk them seeing him. But yet again, was it worth Dib's life? No...
But it wasn't worth Zim's life either.
He had to do something, and that thing isn't available in the lab. He needed to...
Wait-!
Dib has a sister! Her name was Gaz if he remembers right.
But how could he tell her? Can he call her with his ship? Would she answer? But he doesn't have her number in the first place. Zim reached for Dib's pocket, taking his phone out, he had some hope but they quickly crushed when he found out the phone had a password. Damn it!
The bleeding didn't stop.
And Zim began to cry as his eyes landed at the small forming pool of blood where Dib's nose was bleeding, dripping deep dark color of red on the metallic floor, making a tip-tap noise, his pale face was a mess of it from Zim's hands.
"..."
"I w- w- won't let you die."
"..."
"And- d -d that's an order."
With these words, Zim ran to the storage-room while wiping the pathetic tears away, he saw a huge window there, maybe he could find Dib's sister somehow, or maybe not- it didn't matter at that moment, Zim's choices were clouded by his panic. Nothing mattered but the human right now.
Nothing.
He rushed to the window, seeing it opens with a hand-scan. Bandaged claws touched the surface of it, he looked down from the 7th floor, underneath them were what humans call a parking lot, it was nighttime and the floor was covered with snow. Zim being careless, didn't know what snow was, he didn't bother to know so he saw it wasn't a problem.
He ran back to the main room, seeing Gir still crying on the floor, whether it's because of Dib or something stupid, "Gir! We need to go!" Zim screamed as he kept running to the exa-room, "Wear your disguise and meet me in the storage-room!"
"Yes, master!" Gir ran in the opposite direction and headed to the storage-room.
Zim leaned in front of Dib, he checked his heartbeat to find it slow, and his temperature was freezing except for his forehead that actually got much warmer than before, the blood now was all over his blue sweater.
"Come on!" The irken screamed as he picked him up again, he dragged his body to the storage-room, wanting to open the window. He sits the boy on the floor beside the window then got his hand and puts it on the scan.
It didn't work.
"Wha-?..." Zim was confused, he put his own hand on the scanner and it did turn red but why isn't responding at all to the human? Those scanners work with a small tech, Zim had to remember.
Warmth. Blood warmth.
Dib's hand was nothing but a cold still pale hand, it reminded him of dolls hands of how still it was. Zim sat next to him, he moved his hand to his mouth and breathed in it, wanting to warm it up then put it again on the scanner. He kept doing this multiple times before it worked and the window gave a click before it started to open, cold air blowing in the room, making the alien shiver. Some snow flew in the room, coloring Dib's black hair with snow like-powder. Zim being cold-blooded, did not like it, not one bit.
But he won't retreat now.
He closed his eyes and searched for that damn switch, when he finally found it, he clicked it. Zim's human disguise glitching for a moment before it settled on him.
This is so reckless.
He grabbed Dib from under his shoulders, "Gir, move!" He yelled at his SIR, who thankfully was wearing his disguise as well.
The SIR unit jumped on his master's head, holding his invisible antennae with fear, "We gonna to fall!" He screamed.
Zim hissed, "Ow! Let go Gir!" But the robot acted like he didn't hear him. He walked on the small balcony that was covered with snow.
The irken looked down, it was foggy, dark and snow fell from the sky, it landed on Zim's face, melted then turned to water. Zim gasped and tried brushing it away, a small thought told him to wait for the snow to stop, but this means that maybe Dib's heart will stop as will while they waited. He heard a click from behind them. The window closed.
Oh irk.
There's no turning back.
But wait... how is he going to get down?? He can't use his PAK legs, and Gir can't fly anymore! Oh no, oh hell no. What was he thinking? What on irk was he thinking?!
That's what happens when you let your emotions control you.
A control brain said inside of his PAK, it was muffled but the silence around him made it clear.
"No!" Zim snapped, he shifted Dib in his arms, hugging from behind as tight as possible. "I won't give up on him!"
What did he do to you?!
Zim's face went blank, flashing memory of the human helping him with every step he took, from day one, he saved him from death twice! If not even more. He helped him, comfort him, listened to him, and never took anything to his own advantage.
"A lot."
Zim answered the brain, feeling determined against death, he squeezed his eyes, searching deep in his PAK, he needs to use his PAK legs, he needs them, they weren't broken, it was just he can't control his PAK is all, if he could focus enough then he could use them, just for once, please!
The irken licked his cold lips and sighed, then opened his eyes, trying to relax, forgetting Gir who was holding his antennae painfully, and the human who became heavier than before-
Just focus. He has to. He needs to.
He put Dib on the balcony ground then shifted him so he can hold the human in a bridal style, it was hard since the human was taller, though his skinny frame made it easy. After this, he spoke, "Gir, get in my arms."
The robot obeyed and sat on Dib's stomach, "Hold into me, tightly." Gir nodded, and buried his face in Zim's yellow sweater, and held into Dib's blue jacket as well.
The PAK made some clicking noises, it started to heat up, more clicking and clacking, then one by one, the legs came out, sharp and long. Zim moved them around to make sure he had the control, then-
He jumped.
His grip tightened around the boy, eyes narrowing, his mind was trying to stay focused. The PAK legs moved, they held the first edge Zim saw in the building's balconies, they made a scratching noise, it was probably heard from the inside. Zim's back started hurt, he tried to make them hold the edge, and after a second, they got steady. But didn't stop.
Not wanting to raise his hopes up, Zim kept a straight face, climbing down while ignoring the snow on his face. With every move of his PAK legs, he could feel something snap in his PAK. It hurt but yet again, he ignored it.
They were climbing down faster than Zim wanted, his shaky PAK legs and Dib's weight didn't make it easier. The walls had deep scratches of his metallic legs, going all the way down.
Dib's blood was all over his yellow sweater by now.
His PAK was giving him flashing warnings about shutting down, the heavy weight, and the unstable legs. it was heating and clicking and Zim even felt something move from its place inside. It freaked him out.
It wasn't time to regret anything. He had to get them somewhere and he had to stay steady or they'll all die. Well, maybe Gir won't.
He ran down and saw few windows with people in their labs or offices, most of them didn't see him, though his eyes almost met with a female scientist who seemed too shocked to do anything nor believe what she just saw.
The ground was coming towards them, he prepared his land and tried to stay calm and steady, his PAK was making weird noises and some even breaking. A cold liquid ran down his back, he thought it was just snow but it felt more sticky, it was coming from his PAK.
Blood.
His back was bleeding, he didn't know anything but to panic, his PAK legs got unstable and they almost fell on the ground, hard. But thanks to Zim's training, he managed to get them less harshly than it would have been, they all fell on the snowy floor, Zim shifted himself so Dib would fall on his side, his three-clawed hand protecting his head as Zim buried his face in the human's neck.
They fell with a loud 'THUD', thankful for the snow but not so thankful. His PAK legs were holding them inches away from the hard floor, but Zim's face was brushing slightly on the snow, it burned his skin like hell and he whimpered as he got up, he noticed pink blood on the snow, alongside with red one. His mouth was bleeding slightly but his back was heavier. Dib's nose made another pool of its red liquid, his blood was so strangely dark on the white snow, it melted with the warm blood. Gir was shivering as if he could feel the cold. He retracted his PAK legs, they clicked and jerked for a moment, before getting back inside with a hiss, grey smoke rose from his PAK, it was overheated and probably won't function as before.
Now what?
Zim's mind was blank for a moment, he was in so much panic up in the lab that he didn't plan phase two. But he should stick to the original idea: save Dib.
First, they need a place to stay, Zim knew his disguise may glitch and someone will see his true form so he decided to hurry. But where? The place was empty but he couldn't just wait for someone to come, he had to think, to use his mind, and push the heavy panic away. There has to be something, something at the tip of his tongue-
Dib's car!
The human had a car, cars are warm, they could stay there till Zim find out what to do later. The Irken reached to the human's pocked, he got his car keys out and stood up, he glanced at the unconscious human, then at Gir, "Watch out for the human." Without waiting for a response, he ran into the parking lot, pressing the button on the key so he'll know which car. He passed multiple cars, mostly looking for a black one since he knew it was black.
It didn't take him long before he saw a blinking light coming from a car, he reached it and got the keys in. It clicked and the door opened, a beeping noise could be heard from inside as orange light turned on in the car. Satisfied, the irken closed the door and ran back to the human, breathing heavily as he reached them, the snow made little dots of burns on his pale-greenish human face, his fake hair was covering half of his face as he ran. When he arrived, he couldn't help but brush it with his fingers, feeling its texture as if it was real then lean down next to Dib.
He picked him up bridal style with Gir following, hissing with every step as he felt his PAK hum and click. Zim heard something fall to the ground behind them but ignored it. They got to the car and Zim started to shift the human around in his arms, trying to free his hand to open the passenger door.
It was then when a stranger's hand reached and opened it for him. Zim froze, he couldn't even look at who did it, if anyone saw him, or saw Dib bleeding they'll call those hospital people, that will lead to a lot of problems, he truly didn't want to be in a tube again-
"D- Do you need help?" The stranger asked, he leaned to try and take a better look at Dib and Zim, but the irken hid the human face in his chest.
"What do y- y- you want?" Zim snapped, it wasn't the time to deal with a human, he knew for a fact that they were stupid, even if he hadn't met anyone but Dib and his father-unit, he still knew they were, and the fact that they hated his Dib made him that much pissed off.
"Is that Dib? Oh dear it is..." the other responded, sounding disappointed and almost sad. "Here let me help-"
"Don't touch him!" Zim yelled, he shot him a hard glare, red angry eyes locked with green ones. They were green at less, not blue, it wasn't Dale, thankfully.
Zim saw the look the other gave him: shock, confusion, fear. Then he leaned to put Dib on the seat, resting his head away from the green-eyed human before shutting the door. "Go to the backseat Gir." Zim hissed as he made his way to the driver's seat, ignoring the stare the human gave him.
When he got in, he stared at the weird-looking machine of a car that is. His new plan was to drive somewhere away from the company, away from Dale since he remembered the man still exist, sadly. But-... he didn't know how to drive!
Amazing. Just amazing.
"You look too young to drive," The nosy human said, now standing in front of Zim's window. The irken gave him a glare, which successfully seemed to scare the other. "I- I know Dib for a long time, I... I can give you a ride to his house, I know where it is."
"Dib never mentioned you." Zim snapped.
"I'm not really his friend, I was his classmate though in elementary school," he looked at the unconscious Dib, "He looks bad, I'm sure you want him home."
Zim stayed quiet, he looked back at Dib, who seemed paler than before if that's even possible.
"I'm just offering help," the other smiled anxiously.
"If you tried -d -d a- a- anything, I'll kill you." Zim didn't hesitate to whisper his threat in the human's ear, glaring at him.
"Y- yeah, of- of course not!"
Zim stared at him for a moment before sighing, he got out, got Dib out, and walked them to the backseat door with Gir, the robot jumped in the passenger seat to make room for the two. Zim rested Dib's body in his lap, still looking at the boy. "Drive."
"You smell like a puppy!" Gir said as the boy got in, he jumped in his seat when he heard the 'dog' talk. Gir giggled.
"Is- isn't he a d- dog?..."
"Yes." Zim snapped, "Now drive!" He threw the car key on the human's head.
The boy swallowed, he leaned and took the key in shaky hands then started the car, he closed his door and so the lights turned off, the car made a humming noise as it started, he put it on drive and drove slowly out of the parking lot. His green eyes would look at the irken's red glowing ones and every time he'd catch the same glare that sent shivers down his spine.
"Uhm... I don't think taking him to the hospital is a good idea, they... make everything too complicated..." he suggested, looking at the greenish boy, sweat ran down his forehead.
Zim agreed but was suspicious about this, "Why? Don't you think he looks like he needs medical help?" He said in a mocking tone, narrowing his eyes.
The other seemed to notice, "No-! I mean YES he needs medical help b- but hospitals aren't so... cool and all..." he gave an anxious laugh.
Zim's eyes narrowing the more, he held Dib's body closer, "Who are y- y- you anyway?" He hissed his question, hoping the other will ignore the glitches in his voice.
"M- my name's Keef, I work in the coffee shop next to the building, you probably know it because it's the only one there," he offered a nervous smile that looked almost... crazy.
The irken held a gasp. The coffee shop! Dib said about how the cashier guy was somehow in the game. Acting all weird when he talked to him. Zim shifted backward, not replying, eyes wide and focused on every little thing Keef did. What if this was an evil plan from Dale? To use this Keef to kill them? The red-headed boy seemed crazy enough to agree. What if they were driving the wrong way? Heading straight to their doom.
Zim's claws held tightly at Dib's hoodie. Praying to Irk that it wasn't. And even if it was. He was a damn soldier, no human can beat him, no one! He'll do anything to help Dib because Dib helped him. He was an irken and irkens stick to their words.
Nodding mentally, he calmed down slightly, knowing full well how weak humans are. His ego got the better of him because he knew he will win. There was no time or need to be worried now.
The ride was quiet, Gir hummed some random song about doom. Dib's nose seemed to stop bleeding, though Zim couldn't tell, there was a lot of blood on his face. All this time Zim tried to hold still his disguise, if it glitched and vanished, then hell he'll be in trouble, and he wouldn't mind killing the red-headed kid. Actually, he wanted to do it right now.
It took them about 15 minutes to get to Dib's apartment, which wasn't so near to the city. "Here we are." Keef said, smiling, "It will be better to stay away from the hospital, they're um-... not-... so good with their job, hm yeah, it's better to stay home-"
"Go away." Zim shooed him, glaring at the human as he left the car and headed down the road.
Keef nodded immediately and started running. Getting out of sight.
Zim sighed, he closed the doors with his leg as he picked the human up, walking to his house door. The place was big for one person, but that was better, after all, Dib's the heir, at less he has a good house. He also noted that there were cameras, but too small for anyone to see them, good, now Zim can see if that Dale-human was anywhere near them.
Gir rolled on the dirt.
The irken laid Dib beside the door and leaned to take his keys out. He tried multiple keys till he found the right one, the door opened with a click, he pushed it open into a dark house. Gir without hesitation, ran inside screaming 'FINALLY A KITCHEN!' As loud as possible.
He glanced at the car in the driveway, then pressed the button on its key, the car beeped and clicked, telling him it's closed. Satisfied, Zim walked in and closed the door with his foot. He saw in the right a room lighten up and Gir's excitement as he sang aloud. The irken walked to the room, seeing it was indeed a kitchen, something he saw on TV, this was where humans put their food and also cook it. "Gir! Don't touch anything!" He ordered.
"Awww... but I was excited to finally make waffles!!" The robot whined.
"Make what-?" Zim started but stopped, "You know what? never mind. Just don't break anything."
"Oki!"
For a moment, Zim swore Dib's weight increased, he knew this was a very bad sign, so he immediately shifted him around and walked to the opposite side of the house, there were stairs in front of a living room. Too tired to go up the stairs, Zim decided to lay the human on the couch. He put him carefully, then placed a hand on his neck, checking for a heartbeat; thankfully, it was there.
Zim then brushed the snow off of his sweater and head, and also his fake hair as he walked to the light switch, his ability to see in the dark helped him not to fall. When the room lightened up, he walked to the boy, leaned down, and sat on the couch next to him, studying his face with a deep frown. "Gir, get me a towel."
"Yes, my master!" The robot ran upstairs, god only knows how the SIR unit knows where the towels are. He came shortly after with towels and a small blanket. "He needs it so Mary won't be cold!"
"This can help?" Zim asked hopeful.
"Hmm!" He nodded.
"What else do you know?" The irken asked, praying that his crazy robot had at less learned something from watching humans on TV.
"Uuuummmmmm..." he thought, taking longer than Zim appreciated, "If his head's hot you cool it down so his braaaains won't melt! And if his body was cold you put a lovely blanket so his hearts won't freeze! Ands theeeen you give him a piggy so he won't be lonely!"
The irken was slightly impressed, he ignored the last part, however. "Give me something to cool his head then."
"Yes, I obey!" With a salute, he ran to the kitchen. Zim heard something break but decided it wasn't time to scream. Not long after, Gir came with an ice-bag, and handed it to Zim.
The alien hissed when he touched it since there was some water there, but ignored it, he put the bag on Dib's forehead, placing it there. Then went to take the human's boots off and place the blanket on him. He wiped the blood from the human's face carefully, sighing when the blood seemed to have stopped; for now.
Then wait.
He didn't know if he was doing something good or not. He sat on the floor and rested his head on the couch edge, drawing circles on the warm blanket. He waited, and waited. It felt like hours even though it was just 30 minutes. Growing impatient and anxious, Zim decided on something else. Something reckless, and also stupid.
He will go out.
He'll go out and get Dib something to wake him up. He can't stay like this with Dib just sleeping. And it's not like a big deal, he was a soldier, he could handle walking a few streets away from the house, look for medicine, then come back. It was better than just waiting. Waiting is for cowards, even on this cold night.
And he was not a coward.
END OF CHAPTER NINETEEN!
my viewers: waiting for me to update with the fact I can finish a chapter in two days.
Me: playing with ideas of stories in the documents. (Sorry :P)
Don't worry, this story will live till the end, it's in my heart and I will never give up on it, I was just a little busy and had few stories ideas so yeah; we just made a new story just to know this wait wasn't for nothing. Besides, this chapter has a lot of changes in the plot, this takes in another place so I and Mary wanted to be careful with it.
Mary: Thanks for the wait, my friends! Have a cookie!!
This was Alien Freak, signing off.
