LOCATION HAS BEEN SAVED.
999999
It won't be easy. Zim knew this.
He was already walking down the streets, Dib's wallet with him. He told Gir to watch over the human while he's gone and to not let anyone in. His robot screamed 'yes my master' then went back to his 'cooking'.
Zim cursed under his breath, it was freezing outside and he didn't even bother to get a proper jacket. Above all, it was still snowing and dark. He walked down on the sidewalk for a while till he got in the city, he didn't want to dig too deep, not trusting his PAK to save the location, so he got to the first pharmacy he saw.
These places were like small hospitals, but thankfully they don't ask for your ID or get too suspicious. Though, they might ask for a 'doctor's permission' or whatever that was, Zim didn't know much.
The Irken tried to hold into his disguise and at the same time think of a way to get the human out of his condition. Everything was falling too fast and Zim wasn't ready to lose now. He already gave up his ship to the boy, and he was trying not to regret it, so he can't let the human die for nothing.
As he entered the pharmacy, he was glad to find it empty and also clean. Zim walked slowly to the woman on the desk, she was reading something on her phone, when she noticed the new visitor, she shut it down and cracked a smile.
"How can I help you?" She asked, sounding quite nice.
Zim's glare softened a bit as he looked at the brown-haired lady and tried to act normal. "Uh, hello," he began, getting a little closer. "I was looking for a m- m- medicine to wake up a fainted person..." he smiled back, though it looked forced, afraid she might suspect his glitching.
The lady rose an eyebrow. "Did someone faint? You need to call the hospital, honey." She said as if she was talking to a child.
"Uh-" Zim tried ignoring the fact she called him 'honey' he was no human food! "No, It's just..." he looked around at the clean place then back at the sweet lady. "I faint most o- o- of the time... and I wanted something -g -g easy so my... my little brother-unit Would know how to wake me up!" He nodded, satisfied with his small lie, his disguise made it harder to talk, but the girl didn't seem to notice or care that much.
The girl blinked. "Oh!" She smiled again. "We have that! Do you have any doctor's permission?"
"No..."
"That is fine!" She got up and started searching for the medicine. "I know how scary hospitals may be."
"Uh yeah." Zim tried sparing her.
"There!"
The irken snapped at the loud voice.
"This is an ammonia inhaler, it's used to prevent fainting and also wake up fainted people, your little brother should know how to use it."
"How d- d- do I use it?" Zim looked at the white and blue medicine box.
"Just open it and inhale through your nose!" She said while putting the medicine in a blue/white bag after scanning it. "This should be... twelve dollars and thirty cents!"
Zim nodded and got Dib's wallet out, he was afraid of using the credit card so he was thankful to find some change. The irken got thirteen dollars out and handed it to the lady with a nervous smile. She took the money and returned the change to him with a piece of paper then the bag. "Have a nice day, ma'am!" She cheered up.
Zim shot her a glare, then went out.
He ran as fast as he could back to the human.

The irken walked into the house and straight to Dib. He placed the medicine on the table and got it out, his disguise faded away, giving him some space to breathe. His face itched and his back was sticky from blood, but he ignored it all.
"You're back!!" Gir cheered up, he ran to the Irken, covered in flour. "The waffles are almost ready!"
"Not now Gir." Zim hissed, destructed with task in hand.
Gir just laughed and went running back to the kitchen.
The alien got a piece of the medicine and moved on the couch, he put the human's upper body on his lap, still resting the boy's head on the couch arm. He was about to open the small bag when he noticed more blood, it wasn't much thankfully. Dib's nose did seem to have stopped bleeding, properly because he was on his back. Zim hissed under his breath and got tissues from the table and started cleaning the human. The blood was dry which made Zim's task much harder.
After he was satisfied with it, he put the bloodied tissues on the ground and shifted around slightly.
"You're g- g- going to wake up, human." Zim assured Dib right into his ear. Earning nothing, he opened the bag. Inside was white powder, he leaned his head away from it and closer to the human's nose.
For a moment, he wondered if it was right to make Dib inhale it after a nose bleed, what if there was still blood inside? Maybe it won't get to the human's breathing organ... maybe it will make it worse...
But that was out of the window when the small white bag got more closer, close enough that Dib already inhaled it all, not flinching, still no response.
Zim stared at his face for far too long, waiting for a reaction, a twitch, anything.
He got nothing.
"THE WAFFLES ARE READY!" Gir screamed, running towards the couch with two plates of waffles.
"Not now, Gir."
"B- but that my first time!" Gir pleaded, making puppy eyes.
"I'm not hungry." Zim answered, he was hungry, and now that he thought about it, it will be hard to find anything to eat, donuts seemed okay, though.
Gir screamed, as loud as he could. He ran around in circles, crying.
"Stop it!" Zim shouted, finally taking his eyes off of the pale human.
"EAT 'EM!" Gir shouted back.
The irken put both hands on his antennae, frowning deeply. The robot's screaming didn't seem to end so he snapped back. "Okay! I'll t- t- try some!"
"Yay!"
Zim turned around and sat on the floor, he stared at the waffles, not sure about it. His bandaged hand shifted to take the fork, cutting a small bite from the waffles and slowly moving it towards his mouth.
"It's gooooood!" Gir was stuffing all the waffles on his mouth.
Sighing, Zim put it in his mouth and chewed on it, waiting to see if it may harm his body. Nothing happened. And it actually tasted sweet.
"Huh... what's in 'em?" He asked while taking another bite, happy with a meal.
"There's waffles in 'em!"
Zim didn't respond, he ate slowly, gazing every two seconds at the still sleeping human. It made him panic again, the medicine should have done something by now, anything, he really just wanted the boy to at less twitch.
After a few minutes, Zim wiped the sweet waffles of off his lips and stood up on his knees, heading for the human. He kicked his own boots and crawled under the blanket, resting his head on the human's chest so he can feel his heart. His antennae leaned forward, wanting the feeling of the lullaby's vibrations, and also hearing it. Not only because of its calming tone, but so he can be sure that Dib is still alive.
As he made himself comfortable, the invader couldn't help but realize how slow the lullaby was...
Skinny arms sneaked to hug the pale boy closer, burying his face on the sweater's fabric. "Why aren't y- y- you waking up?" He asked nobody, frowning.
"I gave you an order." Zim muffled, digging his claws in Dib's shoulders, "You promised you'll help me go b- b- back home... you h- h- have to wake up, humans like promises -s -s, they always do them..." his voice became a whisper, feeling down, alone, Dib's warm chest was now cold, not so alive.
Gir turned off the lights after he seemed to have cleaned the kitchen and laid down beside the couch, hugging himself like a real dog, he drifted off to sleep immediately.
Zim however didn't seem to be able to.
The place was new, quiet, more vulnerable somehow. And the human was alike. Zim would sleep for five minutes, wake up, check on Dib, and then lay back, sighing every now and then.
999999
Morning came by slower than it should have, Zim could hear cars, dog barks, and some birds on the trees, it was annoying, to say the least.
He woke up to find the TV on with Gir giggling, it was the same Scare Monkey show he used to watch in the lab. "Monkey!!" He laughed.
Zim hissed and did the first thing that came to his mind. He checked the human, feeling his cheeks, forehead, and heartbeat. He realized that the ice bag has already melted, no longer cold. "Gir," he called, voice quieter than it should.
"Yeeees?"
"Is there another o- o- one of those?" He pointed at the ice bag.
"Maaaaaybeee,"
"Then go and -d -d check!" Zim snapped at him, moving to a sitting position.
Gir ran to the kitchen, after a minute, he returned empty-handed, "Nope!"
The irken took the bag and tossed it to his robot, "Put it on the freezer then!" He yelled, Gir did as told and went back to his show, leaving his master to pout and poke the human's cheek.
His green hand reached for the medicine box, wanting to try again. He got out the small white bag and opened it, looking inside at the powder, wondering if it was okay to try again; did he have any other choice? Not really. His hand moved closer to the boy's nose, making him inhale it all, he tossed the empty bag aside and stared again at the pale human, face blank, just waiting.
"Why isn't he waking u- u- up?!" He asked nobody, hissing as he held tight to the blanket. "He should wake up, that female said so!"
"Mary needs a kiss to wake up!" Gir giggled.
"Ugh, just shut up..." Zim sighed, frowning. He laid down again in his lap, feeling no energy to do anything, he ran his finger from the human's forehead to his nose, lips, neck, then down to his chest and stopped there, just feeling the heart bump inside. The Irken shifted around, uncomfortable with the silence.
His hand held Dib's, moving close to his face, he studied it, finding nothing else to do in the main time. The once warm hand was now cold, still, unmoving. Zim gave it a squeeze, moving it to his own chest. Since when did it feel so wrong with Dib being gone? He was just an alien, Zim shouldn't care, right? His ship just needed a few more repairs and it will fly, so why is he here? In the boy's lap, wishing for him to be okay?
Did he have a soft spot for him? Well, he couldn't tell. Invaders need no one. That's how it should be, not him running around to help a human, the same human his father tried to cut him open.
Maybe the fight with the meekrob made him crazy.
Or maybe it made him a defect...
Zim didn't want to think about it, though it was obvious, deep down he knew the truth, he knew the damn hard truth.
The human's hand moved.
Zim's eyes went wide as he flinched, snapping his head to the boy's face, Dib hadn't moved at all...
Was he imagining it? Maybe.
"Stupid human, stupid c- c- coffee." Zim murmured under his breath, not liking being tricked like this. This whole false hope was something he had enough with.
Zim gasped when he felt another movement beside him, this time he was sure it was real. "Dib?" He called, hands slightly shaking. His ruby eyes stared at the human's face, wanting to see any change.
Dib's eyebrows frowned, he moved his head slightly to the side before opening his eyes slowly, half-open, they gazed at nothing.
"Dib?..." Zim couldn't help but call again, his hands moved to cup the boy's face, wanting him to look eye to eye with him. "Can y- y- you hear me?"
The pale human didn't respond nor blink, his amber eyes were dark and unfocused, looking through Zim's face. He looked overly tired, almost dead. His head became heavy, his gaze went to the side, eyes closing. "Wait! No no no! You have to stay -y -y a- a- awake!" Zim pleaded, shifting so half of Dib's upper body was on his lap.
"You c- c- can't just go back to sleep!"
His eyes looked deep into Dib's, wanting to see any shine of familiarity in them, but found nothing, they were just half-open, blank, not focused.
Dib's body was begging to be let down so he'd go back to sleep, but Zim won't obey, he hugged the human's torso with both legs, his hands moved from Dib's cheeks to his shoulders, shaking him.
The boy's heavy head fell on Zim's chest, seeming unable to hold itself. The irken hugged his upper torso with his arms, gritting his teeth, "You promised!" He yelled, "You promised y- y- you'd help me! You said that no matter what!" He freed an arm to hold back Dib's cheek, forcing him to look up again. "You hear that? You. Promised."
Dib's eyes moved to actually look him in the eye, though still unfocused. "You can't j- j- just leave me!" He cried out, eyes itching. He hugged the emotionless human back to his chest, breathing heavily. "For Irk's sake!"
"Zim...?" Came a shaky whisper from the boy's lips, his numb hands seemed to gain some ability to move around, he traced his fingers on the fabric of the couch then to Zim's clothes, they kept climbing up till they slowly touched the Irken's face, his thumbs ran on the smooth cheeks of the alien, tracing the line under his eyes.
"...Are you... okay...?"
Zim blinked, searching the human's eyes, they seemed almost focused on him, though still not enough. "What do y- y- you mean?" Zim asked, I'm the one that should ask this!
Dib didn't respond, he leaned to take the irken in a weak hug, burying his face in Zim's neck, his hands were under the PAK. "...You're bleeding." He gazed at his pale blurry hands after touching the Irken's back, now covered in pink sugary blood.
"It doesn't matter, at l- l- less you're awake, and you'll stay that -t -t way!" Zim snapped, hugging tightly, "I thought -t -t you won't wake up..."
The human boy only rubbed Zim's back slowly, his mind was cloudy and he couldn't think straight, and without his glasses, which he didn't care about, he couldn't see anything, and also didn't care. Nothing seemed to matter. Well, except for the alien.
"I'm awake now." Dib replied sleepily.
Zim drew back and held Dib by his shoulders, searching his eyes again, "Do y- y- you know where you are...?" The irken asked slowly.
"...In your lap?" Dib answered sheepishly, raising an eyebrow.
"No. We're in your house!" Zim snapped.
This is bad... The Irken thought, looking at Dib's emotionless face.
"Oh." Was Dib's reply before he rested his head on Zim's chest, sighing. His hands went to the alien's back again, tracing the blood. "It doesn't matter." He murmured.
"Of course it does!" Zim snapped.
Dib rose his head to place a kiss on the irken's jaw then fell back on his chest heavily, "I wanna sleep..." he shushed the alien, going numb.
"Eh-!" Zim flinched at the sudden act, "N- No you're not going to sleep!"
"I'll be ok'y..." Dib assured him.
"He's drunk! Mary is drunk!" Gir laughed, pointing at the half-conscious human.
"I do''t d'ink..." he shifted so his face was again buried in Zim's pink collar, making himself comfortable.
"Don't sleep! That's a- a- an order!" The irken snapped though his hands didn't try and push the sleepy human off of him.
Dib moved again to glare at the panicking alien, his look was much focused than before, amber eyes staring deeply into magenta ones. He then frowned sadly and leaned to place another clumsy kiss in the irken's cheek, right beside his lips, he chuckled and fell back to Zim's neck. "Just give me few hours and I promise I'll be fine..."
Zim was dumbfounded, he stared wide-eyed at the now sleeping boy in his lap, not knowing what to do anymore. He sighed slowly and rested his chin on Dib's head, frowning.
Just a few hours...
999999
The house was quiet, dark, only the TV sound echoed through it, even Gir seemed to respect his sleeping master and kept quiet.
Zim was laying on Dib's chest like before, hands holding tight to his hoodie. He kept waiting for the human to wake up again but eventually got tired and slept.
The human shifted around, his head leaned from left to right as he tried to wake himself up, his mind was foggy and his eyelids were heavy, it felt like trying not to drown in a cold dark ocean. Nothing seemed to work, deep in his mind he knew he had to wake up somehow, something was telling him he had to right now. But it was hard, his limps were numb and impossible to move, the noises were muffled and far away.
As light sneaked into darkness, Dib's eyes opened with difficulty, everything was a blur, too unfocused that his insane headache became worse. He blinked and tried to look for a clue where he was while trying to move his body. Wherever he was, it was familiar, the noises of what he assumed was TV, the smell of his house and metallic robot, the feeling of someone close to his chest; it was all familiar but somehow... wrong.
His house and lab can't be the same...
After many attempts, he managed to move his hand towards the sleeping body against him, it ran above the familiar fabric of his old yellow sweater then on the smooth green skin of his familiar alien.
He squeezed his eyes to focus, looking down with confusion at the irken, wasn't this his home? Weren't they in the lab? What happened?
"Maryyyyy!" Gir cheered up, jumping on his toes, "You has pretty kitchen!"
Dib was about to respond but couldn't find his voice, though, Gir's loud voice seemed to trigger Zim, "Be quiet, Gir!"
"Awww, but Mary wants to talk to yous!"
Zim hissed in response and shifted around, his tired eyes looked at the human's face to check on him. Dib moved his gaze from Gir to the Irken, their eyes met.
They stayed that way for a moment, searching each other's faces.
"...You're not 'drunk'?" Zim asked slowly, remembering the way Dib acted earlier.
"I don't drink..." Dib answered with a raspy voice, giving a questioning look towards the blurry irken, "Where's my glasses?"
"I forgot it in the lab..." Zim said, still unable to look away. He shifted again to cup the human's face, "You're no longer dying?" He asked with a serious tone, "The medicine worked?"
"What...?" Dib blushed slightly, not knowing what's going on. "What h- happened...?"
"You were dying." Zim said as if it was something powerful.
"Huh...?"
Zim frowned, "You didn't wake up and your human nose was bleeding."
"H- how long was I sleeping?"
"Three days, you woke up -p -p yesterday though and acted all 'drunk' and k- k- kissed me-" Zim's expression hardened, "-Twice!" He held two claws in front of Dib then cupped his face again.
"What?!-" the human snapped with embarrassment, cheeks going red with guilt. "Sorry... I only remember clinging into something..."
"That something was me." Zim gave him an unimpressed look. "It was on here-" he pointed at his cheek, "-so I guess it's n- n- not something unusual..." he shrugged.
"Oh..." Dib moved a heavy hand to rub his head, going through his messy hair, he needs a shower, though he felt heavy to stand. "Where are we?" He finally voiced his question, his poor eyesight didn't make it easy to see, but he was sure this was not the lab.
"Your house."
Dib was speechless, his eyes went wide as he looked around once again, "W- What?? How?!"
"I got you h- h- here."
"What do you mean 'I got you here'??" Dib freaked out, he held the alien's by his shoulders, trying to look at him as best as he could, "HOW?"
Zim sneaked his skinny tongue out, making a poker face, "Do not underestimate -e -e me, human." He hissed, glaring at the pale boy. "It was easy of course! I got you here." He added.
The human stared at him, dumbfounded.
Zim rolled his eyes, "Ugh! Remember that big window in the s- s- storage-room?"
Dib nodded.
"I opened it and used my PAK legs to c- c- climb down and then we-"
"With your PAK?..." Dib cut him off.
"Yes."
"And it's still broken and might have killed you...?"
Zim shrugged.
The boy couldn't help but narrow his eyes, "Zim."
"What?" The irken rolled his magenta eyes again. "Okay! Fine! I might have broken it a little more..." he folded his skinny arms. Pouting.
Before the alien could protest, Dib leaned him forward and searched his back, his weak hands holding as tight as they could, "Blood! You're still bleeding??"
"No." Zim hissed and tried moving away, though not so harshly. "Now lemme t- t- tell you what happened -d -d next!"
"Okay..." Dib moved back to his place, staring with doubt on his face.
"Yes, so, I got your car keys and then someone-"
"The boy that smells like a puppy!!" Gir interrupted.
"Yes. His name was Keef or something, he offered help and drove us here."
"..." Dib's overworked mind tried to think. "H- how did he know where I live?? Who is he anyway?"
"Here comes the p- p- problem, Diblet." Zim pouted even more, staring seriously at the boy. "He's the same guy that works in that coffee shop."
"WHAT?"
"Don't snap at me!" The alien hissed, "I didn't know that at first -t -t! Be glad that I sacrificed my ship and freedom to save your pitiful life!"
"Sorry... but why?"
"Eh?"
"Your ship was almost ready, why leave it? You know it's impossible to get there again..." he asked slowly, looking at the blurry green blob in front of him.
"I won't let y- y- you die." Zim answered as if it was the easiest question in the universe.
"Why?"
"Because -s -s I want you alive."
"... why?"
"Have you b- b- broken your human's voice box?! Stop asking -g -g why!"
Dib buried his heavy head in his hands, sighing, "What have I done?..." he couldn't look in the alien's face longer, "I literally ruined your chance after promising to help..." his eyes squeezed shut, "Am I really that bad?"
Zim looked at him confused, "Why w- w- would you think that?" He asked, looking naive. "It's not your fault with t- t- this stupid, ugly sickness."
"Are you okay?" Dib ignored the alien's words, not wanting to think about it.
"Yes yes." Zim assured him, waving it off.
"I don't believe you." Dib forgot about his problem and glared at the alien. "I have another pair of glasses in my room, I want to check on you myself."
"I don't lie!" The irken snapped.
"My sight may not be the best, but I'm not blind Zim." He said in a serious tone, "Besides, I can feel some burns and bruises on your hands."
Zim looked down to find both of his hands in Dib's, he snatched them back. "No, t- t- they're not."
Dib's eyes narrowed even more, he stayed quiet, making the Irken uncomfortable. "Please just- Get me my glasses, I need them anyway."
The alien sighed and got up, leaving the warm spot he was in, "Where are they?"
Dib leaned back on the rest arm, rubbing the sides of his head, "My room, upstairs, you'll find it in my drawer beside the bed."
Nodding, Zim ran to the human's bedroom, he didn't have time to look around and quickly opened the said drawer. His bandaged hands searched for a while until he found them, they were slightly uneven on the side but that was nowhere near Zim's list of problems. He ran downstairs and back to the couch.
The uneven glasses were successfully placed on Dib's face, the boy blinked multiple times before his gaze settled on Zim's face, "It's not a big deal!" Zim assured him, going back to his warm spot and folding his skinny arms.
"That's snow burns, right?"
"Whatever."
"I think I have some--" the human started, though Zim cut him off.
"I don't need them." Zim exclaimed, looking to the side, pouting like a child. He stayed like that, gritting his teeth. He seemed to snap more often, more than what he used to do. Seeming... uneasy... Dib noticed.
"W- what's wrong...?" The human also frowned.
"You almost died a- a- and the only thing you ask about is -s -s my burns??" He snapped at him as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "You could have died... I had to..." His voice trailed to a whisper, looking down at his lap.
Dib tried ignoring the painful headache and focused on the pouting alien, his voice made Dib's heart twist, as much as Zim tried to act tough, he still had his times. The human stretched his arms for Zim and leaned to take the stubborn alien in his arms and hug him, now that he did he felt how weak his body was. "Sorry..." the boy whispered, resting his chin on Zim's head, staring blankly at the wall.
Zim leaned into the hug without hesitation, already used to it, resting his cheek on Dib's chest, now feeling some warmth coming from it, his eyes itched, feeling his tears form but stubbornly refused to let them fall.
"Sorry for this mess, and for freaking you out..." the human continued, smiling sadly when he felt the alien lean against him.
"Don't die and we'll be cool." Came Zim's muffled voice, burying his face so Dib won't see his frown or teary eyes.
"I'll try." He chuckled, though with a hint of depression into it, it's not like I have a choice... he wanted to say but stopped, deciding that was enough for today.
He felt the irken press deeper into his chest, claws digging none too gently at his back, his antennae were flat against his head. He couldn't help but cup Zim's face and lift him to look eye to eye with him; Zim's ruby eyes looked overly tired, sad even. He had a deep frown on his lips. "It's fine I won't die," Dib tried to assure him, but his voice didn't sound too confident.
"..."
"We'll find a way, I have a small lab in my basement, we can try and look for a cure!" He tried again, looking at Zim's face. His smile melted when the Irken kept frowning. He stared at him, seeing his reflection on the magenta-colored eyes; he looked terrible.
His reflection was forgotten when he focused more on how beautiful the alien's face was, his burns were already healing and his antenna was twitching every two minutes. Dib's face heated up when he remembered what his half-conscious self did, he was too embarrassed to even think he kissed the irken, but not afraid since Zim didn't react too badly about it, obviously shrugging everything off for the sake of Dib staying awake.
He looked slightly down, deep into thought, face flushed with his fuzzy memory.
Zim noticed the color change and freaked out a bit, his green hand reached on Dib's forehead to see the temperature making the human flinch out of his daze, "Your face is red, are you having another fever...?"
"I- uh..." he looked deep into the irken's freaked expressions, "Yeah, I think so..." he lied, not knowing how to explain the truth. He looked down again, staring at the red bloodied spot on Zim's yellow sweater.
This must be my blood...
"Gir! Get me the ice bag!" Zim snapped at his robot not taking his eyes off of Dib's cheeks.
"Yes sir!" Gir saluted and ran happily to the kitchen. Dib watched him only because he couldn't bring himself to look at the alien's face; his thoughts would travel and make him want to kiss the sheeplike irken again.
Before he knew it, a cold bag was against his forehead making him squeak. "Gir said this helps," Zim said, studying the human's face, waiting for the pink color to leave.
"Yeah, it does..." Dib sighed when he saw that the Irken wasn't so tensed now, he laid down on the couch again taking Zim with him, "I feel tired but not sleepy though, let's just watch TV..." he whispered the last part, too tired to form any sound.
Zim nodded only because he felt the warmth again and rested his head on the human's chest, staring at said TV.
Dib could hear Zim yell at his robot to change the channel but his mind was in a different place, he could also feel the alien's antennae brushing against his face and Zim's hand that would feel his neck for a heartbeat, this happened every five minutes, telling Dib just how anxious and worried Zim was.
He couldn't help but frown, thinking of all that happened.
I'm so messed up... he resisted the urge to sigh so to not alarm Zim. I literally just ruined his chance of getting back to his home planet...
But it wasn't all his fault, right? Half to his Dad maybe, and the other to Dale. They both somehow had a role in his mess right now. He kept staring blankly at the TV.
Zim cares though, isn't this too good to have?
His hands held righter to the Irken unconsciously therefore making Zim look up, the elite knew Dib was an overthinker so he didn't say anything about it and looked back at the TV, not really interested in the show.
I'm such a damn mess...
