„Okey before you start yelling Andy, hear us out." Vic started and Andy raised her eyebrows, she would not like whatever came next, that much she knew. "So..." Maya continued, "we think you need to blow off some steam."
Andy threw the last tool into the engine compartment and shut the door. "I'm listening." She said hesitantly, not sure where this was going. "we don't think the whole bff with benefits thing you have going on with Tanner is doing you any good." Vic said.
Andy squinted her eyes at Vic in anger, what her and Ryan had going on really was none of their business especially as she herself didn't know what it was. "Come on just spit it out." She insisted.
"Fine! So we signed you up on a dating app! We think-" Maya said before getting interrupted. "YOU DID WHAT?" Andy shouted. "Okay okay we knew you would react that way, BUT it's not so superficial like there are no pics or anything, just interests and that stuff and you can chat and then eventually go out." Vic tried to assure her and calm her down.
"If you don't blow of some steam you are gonna explode soon. Honestly I think you are only one interaction with captain fire grinch away from exploding." Maya said. "I am not." She said offended. "I am fine, captain fire grinch can throw at me whatever he wants." Andy added.
"Captain what?" The girl Heard from behind them in a stern familiar voice. They all slowly turned around with guilt in their eyes as they looked at their new captain.
"Herrera, care to explain?" He asked with that tone in his voice that surely almost made Andy explode with rage. How could he always be so condescending towards her? Okay in this situation he might have a point but all the other ones? She had never done anything wrong but he apparently had made it his goal to make her life miserable.
"I- I'm sorry sir." She wanted to add that she didn't come up with this name but she couldn't ride out her team mates like that so she kept quiet. "Your on toilet cleaning for the next months, have fun Herrera." Captain Sullivan said to her before he turned around and left the girls alone.
Andy was boiling inside and her head turned read. "Okay, whatever! Give me that app right now! If I get kidnapped it's your fault!" She pointed at Maya and Vic. "Just don't meet someone in a dark lonely alley." Vic Teased her. "Didn't plan on that." Andy rolled her eyes. "I'll leave now, I got some texting to do." She smirked slightly before she walked away. "Oh and don't forget the toilets Andy!" Maya yelled after her.
Andy walked out of her room after getting ready. Maya and Vic were waiting for her in the living room. "Damn Herrera." Vic said nodding at Andy who spun around to show off her outfit while maya whistled at her.
"You sure you don't want us to come and make sure you don't get kidnapped by a stranger?" Maya asked again. "I am very sure! This guy, he's kind and sweet and we are so different but somehow so alike and I don't know I think this could actually turn into something." Andy blushed as she recalled the texts she and the mystery guy had exchanged in the last week.
"Andrea Herrera, you are crushing so hard right now I can't believe it!" Maya said. "Wait, what happens if he's ugly? Like an old, fat guy?" Vic asked. "A man who writes like that, no way." Andy smirked. "And besides he works out every day." She added.
"You meeting him at joes bar?" Maya asked. "Uhm no he sent me this restaurant we are going to." She showed it on her phone to the girls. "Uuuh that is so fancy! I bet he's rich!" Vic said. "Who cares." Andy scuffed. "Okay I have to leave now or else I'll be late." She said walking towards the door. "Text us if he's a creep and we need to get you out!" Maya said. "Yes mom." Andy rolled her eyes at her and then walked out of the door.
Andy walked through the door of the restaurant and looked around. "Ma'm can I help you?" Someone asked her. "Uh I'm looking for someone..." Andy said. "I see, this gentleman said he was waiting for his date and to guide you to his table." The waiter said and let her to a table, where a man was sitting with his back to her. He was tall and bald and somehow he looked a little too familiar. "Mr. Sullivan, your date is here." The waiter said.
And Sullivan stood up turned around and saw Andy who stood there frozen with big eyes and in complete disbelief. And Robert was just as surprised. They both stood there in shock staring at each other. "You..." Andy started but couldn't finish. "This Must be a mistake, I'm sorry Sir." She said then and was ready to run out of the restaurant.
"Herrera wait!" Robert said and Andy immediately stopped. She wasn't sure why but probably out of habit, not that she always listend to him on shift. Why was he even stopping her? He must be just as uncomfortable as she was and he was such by the book kind of guy that he would never do anything with a subordinate. Wait... why was she even thinking this? It's not like she wanted anything to happen! He was captain fire grinch! But maybe he was also that guy she talked to almost Non- stop the last week. Maybe that guy was in there somewhere.
"Sir?" She asked as he didn't say anything else and she couldn't take the way he looked at her any longer. Like he knew her, which she felt so uncomfortable with, recalling all the things he told her Boss this week! "I'm sorry Herrera, this was very Inappropriate. I hope we can forget about this and go back to work." He said in his stern captain voice and then just walked past her out of the restaurant without turning around again.
Andy stormed into the apartment and shut the door loudly. "Why are you back already?" Maya said turning from the Tv to Andy. "I am never doing this again!" Andy said angry. "What happened?" Maya asked a little worried seeing how angry her friend was. "I really don't want to talk about it, I can't talk about it! I'm going to bed right now." Andy said walking past Maya and disappearing into her room.
When she laid in bed trying to fall asleep she still couldn't believe what had happened this evening. She was so embarrassed and mad that she ever agreed to go on this stupid dating app. But never in a million years would she have expected Sullivan to be a guy for that.
How was she supposed to face him on shift tomorrow? The things he now knew about her from texting... she usually didn't share things quite this fast but it had felt so easily and looking back she might have over shared. She definitely had overshared... to her captain!! To her boss!
And how could that guy and her captain even be the same person? Captain Sullivan was cold as ice and mean and condescending and so many more bad things. But the Robert she had talked to the last week... he was a different guy. He was a gentlemen, he understood her and he had feelings, had been through stuff.
Andy really didn't understand how that all could be one person, which was his true self? Her thoughts kept going around in circles until eventually she fell asleep.
The whole morning she had tried to convince Maya she was sick and couldn't go Into work but Maya was having none of it. So here she was, in line up trying her best to avoid his eyes. But he acted like always. Cold and mean... and like he didn't know her whatsoever.
How he could pull that off was a mystery to her because to her he wasn't just captain Sullivan anymore. He was also Robert, who was in the marines, who just recently moved back here to face his past and who liked to make smoothies. But apparently to him, she was just lieutenant Andrea Herrera. Nothing more and nothing less. He assigned their chores and then disappeared into his office like every shift.
The day went on and as weird as they thought it was that their captain never was with the team, Andy was very happy about it now. But something inside of her also was drawn to him. Well not to him... but to Robert.
The alarm pulled her out of her thoughts. A fire in a fabric had them busy for quite some hours, when things escalated leaving Andy with barely any oxygen trying to make her way out.
The entire team was out by now and worked in defensive mode while the captain helped Andy find her way out over the radio. "Captain, Theres no way out, I can't keep going, I need a break." Andy said sliding down against a wall.
"Gibson, you are in charge. I'm going in to get Herrera." Sullivan shouted before pulling down his mask ready to head in. He found Andy quickly. "Herrera, I'm gonna get you out." He said and looked into her eyes. There was something more that relieve in their eyes and if there wasn't an actual fire Raging the sparks between them sure could have ignited one.
Sullivan helped Andy up and they made their way outside. He left her at the aid car with Gibson and walked away, he couldn't be around her, he couldn't have those feelings.
Jack checked her out and Andy was fine, so soon they were able to head back to the station.
"Herrera my office." Sullivan bellowed walking out of the barn. Andy got nervous, was she in trouble? Yes there was something between them in that fabric but it for sure wasn't just her. She fidgeted with her fingers as she walked into his office. "Close the door." And Andy did but it felt intimidating as even the blinds were shut.
"Sir, I-" she started wanting to apologize for whatever she did wrong. "Are you oaky?" He asked her in a tone that she had only heard once for a short moment in the restaurant when he had asked her to wait. "I'm fine sir." She answered, trying her best to sound cool and collected but inside there were all sort of things going on. Things she didn't want to be going on, things that weren't allowed to be going on.
Robert got up from his chair behind the desk and walked around to stand right in front of Andy. "I'm glad." He then said. "Listen this... whatever it is - it shouldn't happen." He said almost whispering which turned Andy on so much. "I understand." She said and swallowed. How was she suddenly thinking like that of her captain? She knew it couldn't happen.
"Do you... do you want something to happen?" He asked and Andy was taken by surprise with his question. She couldn't answer but apparently her eyes said it all. Roberts hands reached out and pulled her face closer to his and he crashed his lips into hers.
Andy put her arms around his neck pulling him closer. The kiss left them breathless as they pulled apart, looking into each other's eyes. "I think, maybe we should talk about this, maybe over dinner?" Robert suggested. "If it is a 'this can't happen' talk I don't want it." She said never breaking away from his eyes.
"It isn't , it definitely isn't. Andrea Herrera you have undone me." He said before he let their lips meet again.
