It had been a slow morning, Andy and Robert were just doing random things that wouldn't get done when they had shift. Andy was tidying her closet after making it a mess the day before when she couldn't decide what to wear and they were running late for shift.
Robert had cleaned up the kitchen and was about to head out now. "Andy? I'm gonna run to the grocery store, you need anything?" He shouted upstairs. "Actually yea... a pregnancy test." She shouted back casually, or at least trying to sound casually.
She had thought about taking the test without Robert knowing but it just felt weird to do it secretly. She wanted him with her on every step of the journey.
Downstairs Robert wasn't quite sure if he had heard her right. He ran up, two stairs at a time. "A what now?" He asked as he barged into the room.
"A pregnancy test Robert." Andy said while continuing folding her clothes. Robert didn't know how she could stay so calm. He walked over and took her hand to get her full attention. "You think you are pregnant?" He asked hopeful.
" I might" she said taking his other hand as well. Roberts smile grew bigger."Don't move! Don't move! I'll be back in 5 minutes." He said and ran out again to go to the store. Andy chuckled and shook her head at his quick departure.
"I'm back." Robert shouted as he can through the door 10 minutes later. He didn't see Andy downstairs so he run upstairs.
"Here." He held out the test to her. "You could have taken off your shoes first." She chuckled, taking the test from him. "I could have, but I didn't. Come on what are you waiting for?" He asked impatiently. "I don't need to pee right now. Did you get orange juice?" Andy asked. "Uhh, I kind of forgot about groceries." He admitted.
Andy slung her arms around him. "You need to calm down, I might not even be pregnant and you are already losing it." She teased him. "I know I know but I can't help it." He grinned and kissed her. "Okay fine, I'll pee on that stick." She said rolling her eyes a little before disappearing into the bathroom.
She had tried to make it all casual so Robert wouldn't get his hopes up but clearly that had failed. Or maybe was it so she wouldn't get her hopes up?
"What's taking you so long?" Robert asked pacing up and down their bedroom. "Stop being so impatient, I'm done." She chuckled coming out of the bathroom.
"And?" Robert asked hopeful. "Babe, we have to wait a little until the results show." She laughed but then it faded. "Hey, you okay?" Robert asked concerned as he saw her expression change. He pulled her down to sit on the bed.
"I just- you know it might be negative. You are so excited I just don't want to disappoint you." Andy said tucking her hair behind her ear. Robert took her chin and turned her face to him.
"If it's negative, we will keep trying. And it's not like it's your fault if you are not pregnant Andy. We only started trying recently and despite how impatient I am, I will keep trying as long as necessary." He said and kissed her soft lips.
"Okay, so I'll go look now." Andy said nervously. She got up and went into the bathroom where the test was laying on the counter. She looked down at it and a big smile grew across her face.
She slowly turned around and her big smile told Robert all he had to know. Andy ran to him and jumped into his arms. "Congratulations daddy." She said as she cupped his face with her hands and started kissing him.
"We're gonna be parents." Robert said excited as they rested their foreheads against each other. Both having the biggest smile possible. They had fixed all that had to be fixed in their marriage and now were ready for the next step.
