Chapter 1: The Spirit Realm
The Spirit Realm. A place where the soul goes after a person's time has passed.
To some, it is known as Heaven. To others, it is simply known as the Afterlife.
But for Master Oogway, it was a place of divinity and peace as he sat floating in the air next to a lively peach tree, a gold yin and yang symbol manifesting above him.
"Inner peace… inner peace…" Oogway murmured to himself as he meditated, emitting a warm golden aura.
As he meditated, he felt his mind begin to wander back to memories of his life. Recent memories that happened in the last years of his life.
He remembered meditating, focusing on inner peace when he felt a sudden shift in the spiritual plane. Curious, he peered through the spirit realm, sensing the growing spiritual powers of four young warriors.
Intrigued, he continued to observe these young warriors through meditation, watching as they overcame many trials and tribulations, hardships and sorrows. Including them finding their own inner peace, saving the city they lived in multiple times, watching their world get destroyed only to travel back in time and prevent it from happening, watching their father die at the claws of their greatest enemy before slaying their adversary.
As he watched them, Oogway found himself growing fond of the four young adolescent warriors, seeing their hearts as noble and true. The makings of a guardian.
Things then really came to a head when they fought off that terrible demodragon, banishing him back to the Netherworld, or Hell as it was known for being the part of the Spirit Realm where the evil and wicked go when they pass. They then fought off one of their enemies from the stars while the brash one reunited with his love for good.
Finally, Oogway felt their presence himself when they were suddenly summoned to his realm by that mad blind wolf, Jei, who forced them to do his bidding.
Oogway observed from the background as the four warriors traveled with the long-eared ronin, Usagi, and the golden boy, Kintaro, overcoming many obstacles before reaching the golden boy's sacred temple and defeating the mad wolf before being sent back to their realm.
It was then that Oogway decided that they would be the perfect guardians for the Dragon Warrior.
So, after months of searching and learning the words for the summoning, as well as contacting the four young warrior's passed father and gaining his blessing, Oogway finally gathered the talismans and chanted the words of the ritual to summon the four turtle warriors back to his world.
And thus, the rest was history.
Just then, a peach petal landed on his nostrils. "Itchy nose…" Oogway muttered, gently blowing the petal off, but as he drew in a breath, the petal landed back on his nose, causing him to sneeze.
"Finally…" Oogway sighed with a smile. "Inner peace…"
Just then, a large jade-like sword attached to a long chain shot out from the void of the Spirit Realm, heading right towards Oogway.
"Now what?" Oogway muttered, already sensing the blade as he easily caught in his hands, his eyes still closed. He then opened his eyes and looked up to see a second jade sword coming down towards him.
Picking up his yin-yang staff, Oogway batted away the sword in his hands, sending it colliding with the second blade.
"Kai, old friend." Oogway remarked. "I see you have escaped the Netherworld."
On one of the floating platforms stood a large gray bull yanking the chains back and catching the swords in his hands. He was tall and bulky with a brown armored helmet on his head with two pieces for his horns to fit through.
"Master Oogway." Kai said with a sneer.
"Our battle ended five hundred years ago!" Oogway exclaimed with surprise.
"Well, now I'm ready for a rematch." Kai replied with a growl.
"Took you long enough! Hehe!" Oogway chuckled with a cheeky grin.
Kai growled angrily before taking a running start, leaping off of the floating platform and flying straight towards the old galapagos turtle.
One of the floating debris that usually floated in front of Kai's path. With a yell, Kai threw out his blades, using them to slice the debris in half like it were made of butter before throwing his blades forward at Oogway.
Oogway leapt from his spot near the peach tree, his golden aura following him as the jade swords pierced the spot where he was, Kai using the chains attached to the swords to pull himself in and crash his feet into the platform, shattering it to bits along with the peach tree.
"You've grown stronger." Oogway observed rather calmly before endowing his staff with his chi and using it to paint the Chinese symbol qi. He then thrust it forward with his hand, the symbol hitting Kai and making him grunt, but did not faze him.
"Five hundred years in the Spirit Realm… you pick up a thing or two." Kai remarked with a small knowing smile. He then moved his hand to his belt, revealing several jade pendants attached to it. "I have taken the chi of every master here, as well as some friends I made in the Netherworld."
Oogway gasped in horror. "No!"
"Yes." Kai said with a dark grin. "And soon, I will have your power too."
"When will you realize?" Oogway implored him almost desperately. "The more you take, the less you have?"
Kai threw his blades into two large rocks, using them to propel himself towards the galapagos turtle as Oogway twirled his staff, focusing his chi through it to create a spinning yin-yang symbol that slowly grew in size as Kai came nearer.
Seeing the symbol, Kai anchored his blades into the rocks and dragged them with him, throwing them into the yin-yang symbol, the collision creating an explosive shockwave of chi that spread throughout the Spirit Realm.
Oogway was knocked off balance as Kai's chains were quickly wrapped around him, binding his arms to his sides as he was pulled down towards the bull.
"With your chi, I will finally be able to return to the mortal world." Kai stated as he held out his hands, his palms glowing a creepy jade green as a crystalized jade chi began to spread over Oogway's body. "And this time, you won't be there to stop me."
Oogway calmly sighed, unafraid of what Kai was doing to him the jade chi had now spread over his lower body. "It was never my destiny to stop you." He said, still smiling. "I have set five others on that path."
He then closed his eyes in acceptance as the jade chi finally enveloped his head, enclosing over his entire body.
Kai gently manipulated the jade Oogway over to him as the frozen galapagos turtle morphed into a small pendant like the ones on the chi-stealer's belt.
"Then I will find them, and take their chi too." Kai said as he grabbed the pendant, a wave of green chi energy spreading over his body.
Kai then slammed his fist into the ground, a sphere of green chi energy surrounding him as he apparated out of the Spirit Realm…
… and completely oblivious to a certain rat ninja master who had watched the whole thing from the shadows.
And so that's how we kick things off! Kai has escaped the Spirit Realm, and Splinter saw the whole thing. Tune in next time as we catch up with our half-shell heroes! (God, that sounded so cheesy.) Later!
