Arc 2, Chapter 9

AN: I intended to put this at the end, but I think that It would be better to put it here. Please remember that Mirio became OP and awesome after he started working with Nighteye and that happened after the summer camp in his first year. Presumably. So it kind of pains me to write him as a kind of a loser cause he is is awesome.

Also, I mostly glossed over it but Togata naked butt. Yeah. Unavoidable. You know. His quirk.

"Please spar with me!"

The thought did occur to him, to kick his but and just be dome with the whole ordeal. It wouldn't take long, just a split second to get up and send him flying, it would take him longer to put down the book he was currently reading while making sure that it remains open where he left it.

However... Kingu was not certain whether he was allowed to hit or possibly maim the guy.

He was getting on his nerves.

Mirio, the blond just wouldn't let him be no matter how many times he asked him to.

"Come on, please?" Kingu looked away from the materials he was given only for a moment, but that moment was exactly what gave the brat hope that Kingu would 'spar' with him. "Pretty please?" He asked while moving closer - too close to Kingu's liking. He was almost breathing at his face at this moment.

Kingu growled.

The irritation was sensed by the local fauna and the effect was instantaneous. A flock of birds immediately took to the sky with the intention of never coming back to that area. It is official, the kid is dumber than a flock of birds.

"Togata! Get over here! Let the kid be!"

Technically, this place was something referred to as private property. While Kingu did not understand a whole lot about what that meant, he knew that for the kids it meant that they could use their quirks freely unlike in 'public spaces'. This extended to him, though the telepathy woman discouraged him against anything. Something with keeping up the appearance and restrain. Kingu sent Shino a glance but she and her teammates seemed busy supervising the students. Shino herself seemed to be giving out hints on how to train some quirks while others made sure that no mistakes can happen.

Kingu turned a page and continued reading.

"Look out!" He felt a vein pop before even looking away from the book. Can't a person even read in silence and undisturbed?

Somebody shot some projectile his way - using his free hand he swatted it away so instead of hitting him, it created a small dust cloud next to him.

He is out.

The weapon packed the book, got on his feet, and grumbling, he walked away from the clearing.

"You would like to go on a run?"

Kingu nodded.

"Why?" Shino asked. She did not look like she was outright against the idea, Kingu still had the tracker and the area had more than enough space, but she still looked like she needed to know.

And Kingu found himself annoyed again. More annoyed than he really wanted.

"Did you say something?"

"I need to blow some steam." He repeated a little louder while still staring at the ground. "I need fresh air." Not exactly that, he has been breathing fresh air for a while, away from the city cars and whatever, but be just needed to stretch. It has been bothering him for a while. In the past, he thought that he enjoyed fighting and he got to fight. Or so he thought. Looking back, he was not actually fighting most of the time, but him being active, flying, running did something.

He needed to move, he needed to do something. He has been spending so much time sitting around and not doing anything. He has already tried to look through Enkidu's remnant inside him with little to no luck. He and the Babylonian kind were always up to something but the images he got back were vague at best.

"I will not leave the area."

Shino still was not too happy, judging by the sound of her voice. "Is it about the UA student?" He finally looked away from the ground and right at her frowning face. "Togata could be a little... forceful sometimes. But he is a good kid."

"And?" He asked, hoping that she would elaborate.

"You could try and become friends. Just sit down and talk, and see if you would like him."

Friends? A face of a certain person appeared before him, but it was dismissed right away. Idiot king.

"Maybe, I could arrange something. Togata does have troubles with controlling his quirk." She started and watched what would be the reaction. "There is an obvious mismatch in quirks, but some experience couldn't hurt."

"My ability counters his." He simply stated. Kingu observed the brat more than enough to understand what his ability is. "Troublesome, but could become strong if mastered. However, my ability counters his. There is no competition."

"Confident, are we?"

"Of course I am." He crossed his arms and scoffed. Shino somehow seemed slightly amused for whatever reason so he continued. "My ability is meant to counter those with other abilities. When I restrain something, I also restrain the space that is occupied. In other words, even if he or something else were to displace him - a teleport as Kota would call it, the ability would fail. The kid's ability allows him to pass through physical matter. But to do so, he still must leave the space he occupies." He scoffed again. There is no competition between the two. "Even if he activates his quirk, my Presence Detection can also pick up on the affected parts of his body."

He probably was going to continue in his rat, but then he realized that he has been going on for longer than he intended. Plus, they are not alone, even if other people are not actively listening in.

Shino however did listen in, while looking a little thoughtful.

"So you think that Togata has potential?" Kingu just felt as if Kota poured yet another ice bucket over his head.

"I have never said anything like that! Just that the ability is strong!" No, he is not complimenting the idiot brat. Stupid, brainless, no sense of personal space. Dumb as a brick and smiles too much for his own good.

"You are the first person to say that though. Not many people see the potential." Shino stopped his thoughts before it could spiral out of control, there was just this tiniest feeling of satisfaction coming off her. "How about we make a deal?" The feeling of icy cold water disappeared, instead he felt as if he had a pit in his own stomach.

"Hello!" The amiley idiot made a beeline straight towards him, barely registered anyone else, he just looked around and ran.

This action could only ever have a single response:

"You are really starting to get on my nerves." Kingu growled. Sensing the impending danger, all of the wild animals have already seemingly left the area.

"Sooo, what are we doing then?"

How he is supposed to know? How does one even get this idiot to use his quirk properly? It shouldn't be that hard to use what is essentially a part of one's being? Kingu failed to understand this one simple thing.

At that point, the kid was so close, Kingu could feel his breath on his face. The divine weapon already wanted to quit. The teachers must be pretty desperate to get him to do something about the brat. Thinking back, he was not getting a whole lot of supervision.

Now that a few days have passed, many kids around them were just given simple directions to continue what they have been doing previously while only a selected few kids got supervision. Where was Togata then? He felt an urge to ask him, but that urge went away quickly when he realized that the blond was still staring at his face.

"What... were you told?"

"That you are my sparring partner!"

No. Just no. Absolutely not. It would take more effort not to crush him with his raw strength than to force himself to sit down and suppress his twitch to run among the green flora of the Japanese mountains.

"I am training to be a hero! Only a selected few people get accepted to UA! Lucky, right? By the way, where is your brother?"

"My brother?"

"Little kid, brown hair, dino hat."

Kingu now crossed his arms. "He is not my brother."

"Really? I would have sworn that you are that! You two are always together! So you are cousins or something? You two are reaaaaly close!" The little kid was currently struggling with homework in his room. Some extra assignments - he had missed out on a good chunk of his school year actually due to various events that took place in the last months. At the mention of the kid, the anger and frustration Kingu felt seemed to vanish for just a little bit, replaced with guilt.

For a moment..."Let us spar then!" Togata exclaimed in the most ridiculous tone, finally moving away and seemingly not even paying the weapon any attention anymore. The kid took on a fighting pose, or at least it was supposed to be a fighting pose.

What made the sight even worse is that his clothes started falling off him. Kingu really couldn't stop himself from covering his face with his right hand.

There were already some girls shrieking in the back.

And he was also thinking that he would perhaps rather go back to battling Tiamat. Maybe.

A decision was made in a split moment, they are leaving - no questions asked - to get a better place because this is not going to work. not with the girls screaming, not with the now upset-looking UA professors because their charges were distracted...etc. Without a word, Kingu grabbed his arm and started pulling him away from the upset crowd. "Come on! Your brother did say that you are really strong. You are really strong, right?" Togata also seemed completely oblivious. Kingu was starting to consider the possibility that someone dropped him on his head when he was little.

"Not a chance that I am fighting someone as incompetent as you." He scoffed while still pulling him away. Only at this time, the idiot finally realized that he probably shouldn't be touching him at all. Now with his quirk still active "Not with an incompetent fool who can't even use his own powers."

"Then?"

"What do you mean 'then'?! I am just pulling you away so you wouldn't be such a big embarrassment!" The green-haired weapon barked out. "I was asked to help you out with figuring out your quirk, that is all!"

Togata frowned for a moment, there were clearly some gears clicking in his brain, Kingu decided that he rather doesn't want to know. Who knows, it might be contageous. "Wait, my clothes!"

Someone, please help him. Why did he accept this horrible task?

Using his other hand, he directed it at the innocently lying blue uniform - which was still getting some horrified looks by the local female population. Chain snatched it and brought it closer for the UA student to get them. "Are you even going to be using them?"

Awkward smile.

That is a clear no.

He sighed again. Kingu continued to drag him away from the group until the sounds of other kids training were nothing but noise in the background. "So what is the plan?" Looking back, Kingu never really had to figure out how to use his abilities, it always came to him naturally and now that he thought about it again, it was Enkidu's influence. Even if his skill with the same body, was subpar in comparison with the first owner. They finally stopped and Kingu let go of the kid.

Him pulling the kid away had another effect. Kingu calmed down, just a little bit. "That was a pretty neat quirk, what is your quirk?"

"None of your business. What you should worry about is your own quirk." He crossed his hands on his chest while looking up at the fairly tall blond. "From what I could tell, you can make it so that parts or your entire body would pass through all manners of physical matter. Correct?"

"Yup!" For some reason, Togata looked pretty smug. Kingu stared at him some more, wondering whether he should remind him about his lackluster control again if only to knock him off that horse. "That is some pretty neat observation. My quirk is called Permeation. But I can use it pretty well if you ask me! I have trained hard to be accepted."

"Like that time when you fell through the floor on the first day?" He gave into his urge, but it had little effect.

"Just a little accident, no need to worry!" He gave the biggest of smiles, the surrounding area seemed to light up just a little bit. "I can pass through all kinds of objects if I focus!"

"That is exactly the issue here: if you focus. You are dumb idiot. Do you think that your opponent is going to be nice enough to wait for you to focus? Are you that naive?"

The student paused. One of his arms rose up and scratched his face for just a moment, looking thoughtful. Then frowned, making the incandescent rays of light vanish finally. "Probably not. But that is when you step in, right?" He beamed again.

There was only one response to that. Kingu threw a punch towards his stomach where he held onto his clothes. Wind kicked up ever so slightly - it was impossible for untrained eyes to see that, but the attack stopped just inches before any contact was made. Togata still held onto his clothes as everything seemed to freeze. It seemed like ethernity before the clothes finally passed through his hands and ended up on the ground again. Only then he retracted the arm.

"You are slow. You wouldn't stand a chance in a fight." Even if there is little no brain in that head, that should have shown him the difference between the two. His slow reactions would get him killed in a serious fight. Honestly, he wouldn't hold up even for a moment on the Demonic Forth where all Babylonian soldiers had to be trained by Leonidas to even have a chance at survival.

Leonidas - he had observed the man from distance on more than one occasion, if only out of curiosity. Before he could stop himself, he started wondering: What would he do? Kingu shook his head, he knew nothing about the Greek hero, except bare basics about his legend.

Togata stood there rooted to the ground, as if still trying to process what he just witnessed. Then:

"That was so awesome! Seriously, what is your quirk?"

Somebody please help him. Breathe in and out, only then he spoke. "Do you see that tree there?" Kingu pointed at some random tree on the other side of the clearing. It did not even really matter which tree, all that he cared that Togata would run in that general direction. "If you'll be able to get there and touch it without sustaining a single hit, I'll consider sparring with you. If you are so amazingly skilled, it shouldn't be that big of an issue, right?" He mocked the blond while trying to see his reaction.

"Really?" He beamed, yet again. Togata looked over at Kingu, then at the tree as if measuring the distance. He was not even bothered with the clothes anymore.

"Naturally, I will do everything to stop you." Before he even finished, Togata was already turning around, ready to take on the challenge - placed his hands on the ground, ready to sprint and all. Then, without a warning, jumped forward and ran as fast as he could.

Kingu picked a random pebble off the ground and threw it.

"Ouch!"

Note into the future: get suitable throwing ammunition, something bigger so he could spot it at first... and wouldn't permanently injure him so that Shino wouldn't be disappointed with him failing the task in the worst possible way.

"Yeouch!"

On second thought, this might not be so bad.

"Sooo... how did it go?" In the end, Togata was nowhere close to his goal. Couldn't even avoid a single pebble thrown at him. Start and get hit, start and get him. For hours to no end.

"He is an utter morron." Kingu rolled around on his spot before letting his face hide the long, rather confortable sofa. The old pattern suddenly seemed very interesting.

"And?"

"He is learning fast."

"Just to make sure, you did not hurt him, right?"

Kingu rose his free hand and pointed in the general direction of that brat. He was happily chatting with his friends, looking completely unharmed. The pebbles stung a bit but over all did little to no damage.

"And you?"

"I feel better." He no longer felt like he was itching all over. It was not perfect, but better than before.

"That is good to hear."

I wanted to focus on my work... but in return, it felt as if I had forgotten most things about my fics. This really shouldn't have been that hard to write. It took me a while just to get into the mood to start writing something I was happy with. And this is not even that much text either. This is very little.. but I guess it is a start. I wanted to make a bonus scene with Mirio and friends, but I also just wanted to update already. I am tired and exhausted and feel a bit as if I forced myself into writing this which is never a good thing because then I almost always end up making stuff I don't like.

Good night.
