Chapter 11: Shredda

Splitter and Goldtrux were out in the forest collecting woodland ore. "I know there's ore in this section of this forest. It was my go-to spot before I decided to cut the whole forest down." Splitter said. "Well, let's hope you're right. I'd rather not see Blayde's bad side when we fail to bring back ore." Goldtrux said. "You and me both." Splitter said as he sawed down another tree. This time, they hit paydirt. "Yes! Woodland ore! Now what did I tell you?" Splitter asked. "I'll skip answering that question since you already know my answer and help you carve out the ore." Goldtrux said, using his tail to dig the ore out of the stump.

Just then, they heard another saw-like noise. "What's that?!" Spitter asked. "I don't know. I thought it was you at first." Goldtrux said. The 2 Bad Trux drove to where the sound was coming from. They peaked out from behind a boulder and saw an unexpected sight. Another Sawmetradon. But it was light-purple. "Another Sawmetradon?! In our crater?!" Splitter asked in anger. "I think we should report this to Blayde at once, Splitter." Goldtrux suggested. Splitter glared at the other Sawmetradon, but agreed with Goldtrux's idea. "You're right. Gather up the ore we found. We tell Blayde about this." He said.

Splitter and Goldtrux reported back to Blayde at their lair. "So, we have another wood cutter in our crater." Blayde said. "Perhaps we should invite this new Trux to our little collective." Trembor suggested. "No! I will not play second saw to another Sawmetradon!" Splitter shouted. "Whoa! Touched a nerve, have I?" Trembor said. "There's only room for 1 Sawmetradon in this crater. And I will see to it that this Sawmetradon is no longer a resident of this crater, but a pile of scrap at the bottom of a chasm." Splitter said venomously. "Now that's the spirit, Splitter." Blayde said. "So, I have your permission then?" Splitter asked. "Of course. But take Goldtrux and Trembor with you. Who knows? You may need the backup." Blayde said. "Right." Splitter said, driving out of the lair with Goldtrux and Trembor following.

By then, the other Sawmetradon, who actually had a pink paintjob, was feasting on the woodland ore it uncovered from the tree it cut down. "Mmm. That's some good ore." The Trux said, showing that it was a girl. "Get away from that ore." Splitter's voice warned. The Sawmetradon turned and saw Splitter, Goldtrux and Trembor. "Whoa! Who're you guys?" She asked. "Simple. We're the ones kicking you out of our crater." Goldtrux said. "What? But I thought this crater was open and welcome to everyone." The Sawmetradon said. "Well, guess what. You thought wrong." Splitter said. "GET HER!" Trembor shouted firing up his drill. The Sawmetradon screamed and drove off. "After her!" Splitter ordered. The 3 Bad Trux drove after her.

Meanwhile, at the garage, Revvit was repairing his telescope with help from Spinz. "So, this thing can spot Trux in trouble anywhere in the crater from this very spot?" Spinz asked. "Yes. Though I had to put in a few repairs and modifications since we took the garage back from the D-brothers." Revvit said. "Wow. Can I try?" Spinz asked. "Sure. The repairs are already finished. Go ahead. Take a peek." Revvit said. Spinz took a look through the telescope. "Tell me. What do you see?" Revvit asked. "I see Stegarbasaurs having a feast, Gluphosaurs stacking rocks and sticking them together with glue, and- Wait. What in the crater?!" Spinz said, catching something. "What's wrong?" Revvit asked. "It's those bad Trux you always talk about. They appear to be chasing somebody into the acid baths." Spinz said. "We better get Ty and the others!" Revvit said.

The Bad Trux cornered the Sawmetradon against the edge of an acid bath. "Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide." Goldtrux said smugly. "And nowhere to go, but into the bath." Splitter said. The Sawmetradon nearly backed into the acid bath, knocking a pebble in it. Just then, Ty came out of nowhere, roaring and slamming his tail into Splitter. "That's far enough, Splitter!" He said as he, Ton-Ton and Dozer came to the Sawmetradon's rescue. "This doesn't concern you, Ty!" Splitter said. "It does concern me when you threaten innocent Trux!" Ty said. The Sawmetradon was in awe at the sight of Ty and his friends. Splitter roared and charged towards Ty, but Ty slammed him with his tail again, knocking him into Trembor. "It's dozin' time!" Dozer yelled, dozing Goldtrux into the boulders. "Quickly! Come with us!" Ty said, driving away with Dozer and Ton-Ton. The Sawmetradon followed quickly.

"Don't let them get away!" Splitter ordered angrily. He, Goldtrux and Trembor followed as quickly as they could. Ty saw them following. "Ton-Ton, give us some cover!" He called. "Coming at ya, dude!" Ton-Ton called, tossing a barrage of rocks from his bed at the Bad Trux. As they got hit, they could only watch as the Trux got away. "Well, that didn't work. We'd better head back and tell Blayde what happened." Trembor exclaimed. "I am not stopping until that Sawmetradon is out of this crater!" Splitter objected. "But with Ty and his pals protecting her now, we're gonna need backup." Goldtrux pointed out. "Fine! You guys go get Blayde. I'm gonna enlist the help of a brother-in-saw." Splitter said.

Ty, Ton-Ton and Dozer brought the Sawmetradon to their garage and gave her some ore. "Mmm! I can't thank you enough for saving my life back there!" The Sawmetradon said as she ate. "It was our pleasure." Ty said. "So, who are you anyway? Never seen a Sawmetradon with such pretty colors before." Ton-Ton asked. "I'm Shredda." Shredda said. "Name's Ty." Ty said. "I only thought you guys were a campfire story. But after today, I don't even have the words to describe how I feel." Shredda said. "You've heard of us?" Dozer said. "You're not from this crater, are you?" Ty asked. "No. Just came here yesterday actually." Shredda said sadly. "Volcano took my valley. Became separated from my family. Don't know what became of them."

Ty looked at her with a face of sympathy. "I know how you feel. Volcano took my last home too." He said. Shredda looked up at him. "But it's okay. After I found this place, I made friends and built this community for all Trux and Tools." Ty explained. "Really? Cause the Trux who tried to push me into the Acid Baths had a completely different idea." Shredda said. "Those Trux don't count!" Dozer snapped. "Yeah. They're really bad dudes." Ton-Ton said. "They only seek to control this whole crater and force everyone out." Skya said. "But don't worry. The only way they'll do that if we show fear. But when we stand together, we can be them." Ty said. Shredda smiled, knowing that she was on safe grounds.

Meanwhile, Splitter had just arrived at the Dark Forest. As he entered, he heard the sound of saws whirling, knowing he was on the right track. Just then, Buzzsawbras came out from the foliage. The leader went up to Splitter and they stared at each other. The leader then bowed to Splitter, recognizing him as a saw brother. "I have need of your services. There's another Sawmetradon in this crater and I need your help to get rid of her. Are you in?" Splitter asked. The leader looked to its pack and whirled his hood saw, giving his answer. Splitter chuckled sinisterly.

Later, the Trux were looking over Revvit's plans for a new build. "So, this new rain shelter will help Trux caught out in rainstorms and hurricanes seek out cover?" Dozer asked. "Yes. The light bit-bug beacon will draw them to the shelter." Revvit said. "Plus, it's even big enough for a Dreadtrux." Ty said. "It even has an endless supply of ore for the hungry Trux." Revvit said. Shredda looked at the plans. "It looks too tall." She said suddenly. The Trux looked at her. "What do you mean?" Revvit asked. "Well, if you want the Trux to be safe in the shelter, you have to make it wide, not tall. Otherwise, the whole shelter will collapse in the wind." Shredda explained. Revvit looked over his plan. "She's right. I didn't calculate for wind resistance." He said. "Then it looks like we'll have to cut down the height a bit." Ty said. "But still have enough room for the Dreadtrux." Revvit said. "I can help with cutting. If you want me to." Shredda said. "Actually, we really could use your help with cutting." Revvit said. "Great. Can I say your thing, Ty?" Shredda asked. "Go ahead." Ty said. "Let's Trux it up!" Shredda cheered.

As the Trux gathered supplies for their build, the Bad Trux watched from afar. "They're building again. It never stops!" Trembor said. "Let's hope your help will pull through with their end of your bargain, Splitter." Blayde said. "Don't worry. Once the Buzzsawbras get done with them, they'll know to never help a Trux that should never be helped again." Splitter said.

Garby laid out several bricks to set up a foundation for the shelter. The Cementasaurs poured out some cement to make the walls. As the walls dried, Ty and Dozer held the first one up over Shredda, allowing her to cut it in half with her saw. The Trux set up the walls and used Garby's bricks with Gluphosaur glue to set up a roof. The Tools screwed in bits to help lock the roof in place. "This is actually going well." Revvit said as Ty and Dozer set up a post. "You're right. This shelter's really gonna come through." Ty said.

Just then, there was a whirling sound. Dozer knew that noise. "Look out!" He called. The Trux and Tools turned to see the Buzzsawbra pack coming towards them. "Buzzsawbras!" Revvit called. The pack surrounded them as the leader slithered up and unveiled his hood, giving a loud hiss. "What're they doing here?!" Dozer asked. "They're with us." A familiar voice said. The Trux looked on as the Bad Trux rolled up. "Figured you'd show up with creatures as bad as you, Blayde." Ty said. "Oh, I didn't hire these Buzzsawbras." Blayde said. The Trux were confused. "I hired them." Splitter said, driving forth. "You hired an uncontrollable group of saws that are way more dangerous than you?" Ton-Ton asked in amusement. "Let's just say that we have similar ways of looking at the world. We're like brothers-in-saws. They get to cut you down, and I get to cut down that unwelcome Sawmetradon." Splitter explained. Shredda gulped.

"GET THEM!" Splitter shouted. The Bad Trux and the Buzzsawbras charged for the Trux and Tools. Ty slammed his tail into Pounder, be he recoiled by bashing Ty with his hammer. A Buzzsawbra hooked around Dozer's horns and prepared to saw into them, but Skya tossed her hook around it and threw it off. Ton-Ton whacked Goldtrux with his tail. Goldtrux fired his spikes at Ton-Ton, but Ton-Ton rode off a ramp to dodge the spikes. "Too slow, Gold-dude!" Ton-Ton gloated. "Oh, really?" Goldtrux asked, hooking his spike clamp on Ton-Ton's tail. "Oh, big mistake." Ton-Ton said. Then he started to wrap the coil around Goldtrux. "What- What are you doing?!" Goldtrux asked. "Just playing ring around the Truxie, dude!" Ton-Ton said as he finished wrapping Goldtrux up.

Shredda hid behind the shelter. But unfortunately, Splitter and the Buzzsawbra leader surrounded her. "At last. After today, there will be just one Sawmetradon in this crater. Just as it should be." Splitter said, spinning his blades. Shredda looked between Splitter and the Buzzsawbra. Both had their saws spinning and ready to cut into her. Shredda closed her eyes, waiting for the pain. But then, Dozer dozed into Splitter and Ty slammed the Buzzsawbra with his tail. "Shredda, are you okay?" Ty asked. "Yeah. I'm okay." Shredda said. "We need your help. We can't face them all without you." Ty said. "I-I can't! I'm not really a fighting kind of Trux." Shredda said. "But you're a Sawmetradon." Ty said. "Perhaps. But I don't have the proper personality to be a Sawmetradon. That was one of my many problems before I got separated from my family." Shredda said. "What do you mean?" Ty asked. "My family were the toughest of the tough Sawmetradons." Shredda started to explain.

[Flashback]

Shredda's family were sawing down every tree they could find, regardless of who or what lived in. "But I was more of a gentler type of Trux." Shredda drove about, watching the Dragonflopters pass by. "When the time came for me to make the family wall, I couldn't bring myself to drive any of the local Tools out of their forest." Shredda stared at the tree and the Reptools that lived in it. She shook her head and drove off. "My family was disappointed in me." Shredda was being scolded by her father. "I was nearly disowned when the volcano went off and drove us out of our family." Shredda separated from her family as she escaped.

[Flashback End]

"I'm nothing but a shame to my kind. That's why I won't be of any help to anyone." Shredda said as she lowered her head in shame. "Shredda, I know what it's like to be different. I mean, I'm a T-Trux and I'm friendly than other T-Trux." Ty said. "What's your point?" Shredda asked. "The point is that by being who I am, I managed to do so much good for this crater. If I can do that by being myself, you can too." Ty said. Shredda began to think about this.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Trux were getting bashed by the Bad Trux and the Buzzsawbras. "Ty! We could use some help here!" Dozer called. Pounder pounded the Dozeratops on his blade. Skya reversed to avoid the Buzzsawbras. Goldtrux, after getting untied, launched a gold brick into Garby's face. "Looks like you Trux can't match up against our new united forces!" Blayde said, dozing into Ton-Ton. Soon, the Trux were backed up against a wall. "Time to end this once and for all." Blayde said. Just then, Ty roared as he came in, bashing into all 4 of the Bad Trux and the Buzzsawbras. "Guess you need a reality check, Blayde!" Ty said. Blayde growled and charged back in.

Splitter got back up and saw Shredda glaring at him. "So, finally decided to surrender to the better Sawmetradon, are we?" Splitter asked. "No. I'm not gonna let someone like you tell me where I don't belong anymore. You want to dance with saws? Then let's dance with saws." Shredda said, spinning her saws. "Very well. I could use a workout while cutting you into pieces." Splitter said, spinning his saws too. After glaring at each other while spinning their saws for a minute, the 2 Sawmetradons charged towards each other. They drove past each other, sparks flying as their saws clashed. The 2 drove back around and continued to clash saws.

Meanwhile, Ty and Blayde struggled to push each other back. "You are not beating us, Blayde! Not now! Not ever!" Ty shouted. "You underestimate me, Ty! You should know that we never fight fair!" Blayde exclaimed. Ty looked and saw the Buzzsawbra leader leaping towards him. "Whoa!" Ty shouted before backing up to dodge the Buzzsawbra. "Is this how you really want to take me on, Blayde? Hiding behind something more dangerous than you?" Ty asked mockingly. "Buzzsawbras maybe dangerous, but with the deal Splitter made with them, we have the same common goals. To get rid of you, no matter what it takes." Blayde said. The Buzzsawbra hissed, spinning its saw hood. "Okay then. I always like a good challenge." Ty said.

As the Sawmetradons continued to clash saws, Splitter began to get the upper hand. "Is that all you got?!" Splitter asked, striking Shredda with his tail. Shredda struggled to get up, but she couldn't find the strength. "Look at you. Sawmetradons are supposed to be feared and tough. But clearly, you're just a disgrace to our kind." Splitter mocked. Shredda looked at the ground, hearing those words before.

[Flashback]

Shredda looked sad as she got scolded by her father. "You're a Sawmetradon! You're supposed to be feared and tough! But you're just a disgrace to our kind!" Her father said. Shredda was close to crying. Her father was about to speak again, but then the volcano started to erupt.

Shredda managed to get out of the eruption. But she saw that her family wasn't anywhere in sight. "They were right. I am a disgrace." She said before driving off into the forest.

[Flashback End]

"You're right. I am a disgrace." Shredda said, getting back up. "But that doesn't mean I won't give up! I'm just as strong as you are, Splitter!" "Then bring it on!" Splitter dared. Shredda charged towards her enemy. Splitter attempted to swat her with his tail, but she grabbed the tail with her mount and started slicing his tread with her saw. "OUCH! GET OFF OF ME!" Splitter shouted, getting free. He tried to bash Shredda, but she swatted him in the head with her tail. Then she bashed him, pushing him into the wall and getting his left saw stuck. "Ha! Who's the better Sawmetradon now?" Shredda asked.

Splitter struggled to pull his saw out of the wall. But just then, the saw broke off as he pulled hard enough. He gasped at what he saw. "My saw! MY SAW!" He cried. "Wanna try fighting me again?" Shredda asked. Splitter just growled. "This isn't over." He said, driving away. "Whew. That's that. Time to help the others." Shredda said.

Ty wasn't having any luck against Blayde and the Buzzsawbra. Ty tried to swat the Buzzsawbra with his wrecking ball, but the Buzzsawbra managed to saw his treads, making him fall over on his side. Blayde chuckled as she drove up to Ty. "You lose, Ty." She said, raising her tail to strike Ty. But then, Shredda came in behind Blayde and sliced off her tail. Blayde screamed as that happened. "MY TAIL!" She cried. Everyone turned to see as she screamed. "You think you're so tough? Then try me on." Shredda dared. Blayde growled and dropped her blade. "Oh no. I'm not taking her on." Trembor said. "I'm out of here!" Goldtrux yelled. Pounder followed the 3 as they drove away. The Buzzsawbras followed. "NO! Come back!" Blayde yelled. The lead Buzzsawbra stopped, hissed at her and took back off. "It's over, Blayde." Ty said as he and the other Trux joined Shredda. Blayde just huffed and took off.

Afterwards, the Trux sat in their repair bays getting repairs from the Tools. "There we go, Ty. Your treads are all repaired." Revvit said. "Well, that's good to hear." Ty said. "Dude, those Bad Trux are really stepping up their game by joining up with those Buzzsaw-dudes." Ton-Ton said. "Then that means we'll step ours up too." Ty said. "I like the sound of that." Dozer said.

Later, Ty, Revvit and Shredda drove up to the tar pools. "I should thank you for helping me, Ty. If you hadn't given me inspiration, I never would've given Splitter that slicing beatdown." Shredda said. "Actually, we owe it all to you, Shredda." Ty said. "Ty is right. We won the day thanks to you." Revvit said. "Aw, shucks, guys." Shredda said, blushing. "In fact, if you want to, you're welcome to a spot on the team." Ty said. "Yes. We still need to finish our rain shelter and I think we could really use your help." Revvit said. "Really?" Shredda asked. Ty and Revvit nodded. "I'd be honored." Shredda said. "Great. Then let's head back. Shelter's not gonna finish itself." Ty said. "RACE YA!" Shredda shouted, speeding ahead. "Hey! Oh, it's on now!" Ty said, racing after Shredda.
