"-Whoa! You really want go?" Conner said surprised. To make sure he repeat the question.
You couldn't help laugh a little, before repeating your answer for the tenth time he's asked now.
"Yes, I'd love to go" you said that afternoon walking down the road back home after meeting up with him once his school was out. "It'll be fun."
Conner was of course happy, the smile he had spread further across his face. Lighting it up. He squeezed your hand he was holding tighter, not too tight but tight enough, pulled you closer kissing your the cheek.
"This is going to be great, babe," he exclaimed twice happier than a minute ago.
You smile quietly outside, inside your stomach sunk. That harrowing feeling crawled over you, blinking once that horrible scene flashed before yours...all the bodies...and...him standing triumphantly in the center with those piercing glowing red eyes. Burning hot red to fire like Superman's eye lasers.
Though it was only a second blink that scene always played, seeing the bodies off everyone...your heart tore into a cry before, it nearly brought you to tears if you didn't swallow them down and smile.
Now wasn't the time to feel such a way, every second was meant to be pleasurable.
"Okay," Conner voice brought you back, he had his phone out and on. Brought up the picture album and clicked on one. It had him in it with four others. Two boys and two girls. "This is the crew. Phil," he pointed to the short curly brunette and dusted freckles. "He thinks he's funny but, nope. Hank." The dirty blond with long bangs swiped to the left covering his green eye. "He's chill, and daring. Okay, these two right here-"
The girl with dark brown hair in a pixie cut was Minnie, she seemed sly from her sharp almond eyes. The other girl with bright bouncy long blonde hair and big hazel was Mary-Louis or just Mary, she seemed sweet looking. From what Conner told you and informed you about them they'd be joining you two at the event. They knew about you already he told you as he told them about you. A part of shivered inside knowing you'd be interacting but shook it off.
"You're gonna like them, babe," he assures you with high hopes in his voice. Kissed your cheek again. "But, you're sure you'll be okay? We're gonna be around a ton of people."
Your heart skipped a few beats, never the less you smiled.
"Yes, I'm sure," you kiss him back on the cheek. "Besides, I've wanting to go to something like this."
Glad to hear the rest of the walk home was Conner giving you further information on his 'crew'.
"Oh, now that's cute," Lois complimented eating a piece of orange chicken, "I would go for that."
You weren't sure, stepping back a little look at shirt you where holding for tonight. You had about an hour and a half before it started and meeting up with Conner's friends. So you needed to get ready and Lois was there to help, via face call. You had called a few days before telling her which she was thrilled to hear and when you went shopping for something new from the money she sent, that she didn't need to as you had your own.
From working the small part time job in town at the diner. Yet she insisted.
"I'm not really feeling this one," you disagree setting it on your bed, go back to you closet and take out two more tops. One new the other not so much clothes from before.
You hold them up look at both, if only Kory was here she'd know what to pick and help you. Lois looked at them humming unsure.
"Are you trying to go simple cute country girl or sizzling country girl?" She threw out popping another piece of chicken in her mouth. "Because either sounds good, but I think pretty cowgirl fits you."
You hadn't thought of your style. "What about a dress?"
"That's a thought but it is Fall remember?"
She was right, but cold never bothered you anyway. But you couldn't show that and needed to play the part.
"You're right," you agree, walking back to your closet rummage through.
Find and take out a few more choices lay them on the bed, hold them to show Lois quickly toss the aside, stressing, plop on the bed with heavy sigh.
"...Great, just great," you mutter disappointingly, crossing your arms over your chest.
Lois finished the last piece. "You're sure putting a lot into this." She lightly teased, you didn't share in it. "Alright, alright, no more joking. Let's try this again alright?"
Her enthusiasm put a small smile on you. "Yeah." You unfold your arms and get up.
"That's the spirit, before we get started I have a question, is everything okay?"
You froze for a moment then smile. "Yes," you quickly answer. Lois studied you for a moment. "besides it's normal to want look good for a date and hanging out. That's all I want to do. I just would like to look good and make it a special and passionate experience."
"True, there's nothing wrong with that. I was talking other things." She said in her reporter voice.
You hide your nerves and stay calm, "I told you before I'm fine. Can't I call in and check? I just want to know...you know," you wave your wrist dismissively, standing, walking over to your closet opening it once more and start looking through it. Mutter something under your breath out of Lois's hearing.
She watched you with careful concern, tempted to keep prying but left it alone, for now. Shifting her eyes to the clothes you had it came to her. "I have it!" She says pleased, your head whipped around to her waiting to hear with a satisficed smirk on Lois tells you.
As your eyes lite up at her idea, over in his room Conner was pretty much ready. Just like you he had Clark on video chat. Who was none the happier about the news and enjoying Conner's peeping happiness about the whole things. Doing his best not to laugh too much at the young man, who finally decided on wearing his leather jacket instead of the khaki one.
"Yep, this one," Conner said admiring himself in the mirror, straightening out the jacket. Over the simple red and black flannel shirt, his attire didn't take him too long to put together, black jeans and shoes completely the whole look.
"Someone is through the roof," Clark teased lightly, chuckling a bit, Conner smirked a little turning to him a bit of red dusted on his cheeks sheepishly, "sorry. Couldn't help myself. It's good the two of you are doing this. I'll be honest, it surprised me Violet was up for it."
"Me too. I thought she was going to shoot it down, since well, you know."
Clark did. "That just means things are going good between you both. I remember Lois wasn't at first keen on doing some of my things but once she did it good. Of course she didn't feel the need to isolate herself. Though it did take her some time, she didn't instantly jump into it."
"...Yeah," Conner said quietly with worry,"actually lately, she's been saying yes to a lot of things lately. Which I don't mind, but..."
Hearing his concern Clark did his best to ease it. Despite his own concern in his tone. "Don't think of it like that, just enjoy this time. She's going to meet your friends and you'll both have a good time tonight. That's all that matters right now really. I'm sure if something is bothering her she'll tell you."
Conner's face fell for a moment from Clark's words, thought of you for a moment. You...telling him something was going on, these last couple of months have been good and you talked more than he thought. Coming out being more expressive and always smiling which he didn't mind. You even started meeting up with him to walk home, normally you'd be back at the house doing something or he'd find cornfield laying down in the center where the stalk was folded and press staring up at the sky. Watching the birds. Maybe once or three times walking up the road from the Apple Farm a few miles away with a bushel. You'd greet him with a pleasant smile that for some seemed mundane, but he knew better. It was in your eyes that seemed somewhat dull but that wasn't the case. Now, you had a bright and sunny smile, the same with your eyes. It was vibrant and refreshing.
He wasn't complaining, it was just...he couldn't really put his thumb on it. Which worried him, especially when he noticed something else about you. So, you telling him something...that was just-
"You two should ride the ferris wheel," Clark suggested breaking Conner's thoughts, bring him back.
"Huh, what?"
Clark chuckled a bit, "Don't tell me you're nervous, I said, you two should ride the Ferris Wheel. I mean you both can fly but it's just something about magic of the wheel that you just can't bet. But ride it fifteen minutes before the fireworks. The colors are vibrate and this...this sensational feeling comes over you, that you can't explain."
"Yeah, I'll make sure to remember that, anything else?"
"...Share a either a churro or caramel apple."
Conner rose a brow, scuffed a bit. Shaking his head. "What? Okay, I'll make sure to remember that. Dang," he looked at the time, "better go. Talk to you later, bye."
Hanging up, Conner grabbed the phone and hurried out down the stairs apologizing quickly for being late. Entered the living room where you were with Ma and Pa, dressed and ready. He stood stunned for a moment just staring at you. He had to blink a few times to make sure what he was seeing was rushing red and heat to his cheeks and all over his face. His body felt it, the deep thumping and pumping in his heart against his chest he was sure you heard.
You...you looked..he couldn't find the right words, like that time at Lex's press party that night, the only difference you weren't dressed up, dressed up. But, you were dressed in a white off-shoulder long sleeve, lace dress, with a scooped neckline. Stopping just an inch above your knees, brown ankle boots with a thick belt around the waist. A light touch of make-up, eyeliner, red lipstick, and mascara. Your hair was down in full volume with soft curls. One would think you were actually a country girl, you surely had the clothes for it.
From where he stood...you looked happy. That vibrant and lifeful look in your eyes bounced more with the light of the room, he couldn't stop staring. Feeling eyes on you, finally notice him standing there.
"Conner, are you ready?" you asked turning in hid direction.
For a second he was speechless, Ma and Pa couldn't help but laugh quietly. "Superspeed only works in some areas," Pa teased, lighting resting hands on your shoulder fondly. "Son, you better hurry."
You agreed. "Yeah, we better hurry. You told your friend we'd meet them soon," you walk over taking his hand, snapping him out his trance. Especially when you kissed on the cheek. "come on."
"Y-Yeah," he finally said, walking to the door, "don't wait up!" He shouted back.
"Have a good time you two," Ma waved, stopping when the door shut, she and Pa go the window and watch Conner scoop you in his arms. Though not before kissing you and fly off.
