Chester was spending a few days out at Fort Dodge to see his friend and that meant that Matt had to stay at the jail. It was in the middle of winter. Kitty decided to stop by for a visit. There was a lot of passionate kissing, but nothing beyond that. As much as she would have loved to stay the night, she knew she couldn't. Since he couldn't leave the jail, Matt tried to convince her to stay a bit longer.

"I should probably get going. I really can't stay any longer," Kitty said.

"Kitty, it's cold outside," Matt said.

"I know, but I gotta get back to the Long Branch," Kitty replied

"Kitty, it's cold outside," Matt repeated

"This evening with you has been so nice," sighed Kitty.

"I was hoping that you'd dropped in. I was getting kind of lonely," Matt whispered.

"If I don't get back soon, I'm sure Sam will start to worry," said Kitty.

"Kitty, I'm sure he knows where you are. There's no need to hurry," Matt responded.

"I'm sure Doc saw me come over here. He's going to be pacing his office floor until he sees me going back to the Long Branch," said Kitty.

"Can't you at least stay for one more cup of coffee?" asked Matt as he poured her a cup.

"I really should get going," Kitty said as she sipped the coffee. "What's in this?"

Matt held up a bottle of Brandy. "You gave it to me for my birthday. I save it for special occasions."

Kitty couldn't help but smile at the fact that Matt thought this was a special occasion. She finished the coffee and got up from the table and put on her coat and gloves. "Now, I really must get going."

She opened the door and was surprised to see how much snow was outside. It was lightly snowing when she arrived, but now it was heavily snowing with wind, and the snow was deep. Matt noticed the same thing.

"Kitty, you really shouldn't leave now. It's practically a blizzard outside. You'd get lost on your way back. Besides that, it's up to your knees out there."

"Maybe I shouldn't have had that last cup of coffee," Kitty said with a smile. It was then that she noticed her disheveled hair in the mirror. "Oh my goodness, look at my hair! Matt, lend me a comb. I've got to fix this."

Matt pulled a comb out of his desk drawer and gave it to her. Kitty took the comb and redid her hair. "Thank you," she said. "Now, I really have to get going. We can't let the town ladies start talking. You know how vicious Edsel Pry's rumors can be."

Trying to convince Kitty to stay, Matt tried another tactic. He pulled her to him and softly kissed her lips. "Your lips are surely delicious," Matt said against her mouth.

Kitty responded, enjoying the kiss. "Don't be surprised if Doc shows up at the door looking for me."

"I'll just tell him that I didn't want you to catch pneumonia and die. He would have to understand how devastating that would be. Think of how sorrowful my life would be without you in it," Matt said.

Kitty opened the door again and looked outside. The snow storm continued to rage,, and she realized she really didn't want to go out in it. She turned and looked at Matt. "Well Cowboy, I guess you and this storm have convinced me to stay. I'm sure there's going to be talk tomorrow."

"Let them talk. At least I know you're safe," Matt softly said, helping her out of her coat.

Matt took off his boots and Kitty removed her shoes. Since they would be spending the night in the jail, nothing else was removed. Matt made sure the doors were all locked. Once that was done, Matt and Kitty settled down on the small cot and snuggled into each other's arms.

"I'm really glad you decided to stay," Matt told her.

"Me too," Kitty admitted.
