Chp. 8: Explanations
Civil Police of the State of São Paulo
Interrogation Room
At the São Paulo Civil Police Station, an hour after Watson's attempt to rescue Yara, the two were sitting at the table as the detective stood across from them with a police officer standing in the corner.
"This is the second time you were brought in here Mr. Watson. But unlike last time, this time you claimed that you killed someone," the detective said.
"But did mention that the man he killed and another had kidnapped me," Yara said.
"Yes, that was mentioned," the detective said.
"They tried to kill him when he tried to rescue me and he acted in self defense," Yara said.
"When we came into the building to investigate, the room you guys were in was totaled. Strong signs of struggle," the detective said before turning his attention towards Watson. "You said you fought the two perpetrators yourself, and judging by the damage in that room, you would have sustained some bruises and/or broken bones. So how come I'm not seeing a single scratch on you?"
"I guess I was just lucky? I'm not sure," Watson lied.
"Well the guy you killed was wanted for drug trafficking, murder, and rape. And since evidence proved that you acted in self defense, I'll let you off the hook. As for the other guy however, he'd gotten away before we could find him," the detective said. "We also have reason that Augusto Silva may have something to do with this."
"Are you sure?" Yara asked.
"It's possible. The timing and your involvement is too much of a coincidence," the detective answered.
"So what are you gonna do then?" Watson asked.
"We have two options. Continue to find Silva and eventually book him, or we can put you both under witness protection," the detective answered.
Watson and Yara both gained stunned looks upon hearing the second option.
"Judging by your reactions, I'd say that's a no on that," the detective said.
"I have friends and a life. I can't just up go and hide with a different identity," Yara said.
"I'd rather not. My dad's already worried enough as it is," Watson said.
"Alright. You can go then," the detective said.
Watson and Yara stood from their seats and made their exit out the door. The police officer turned his attention towards the detective.
"What are you thinking? Unlocked Aura?" the officer asked.
"From the sound of it, yes. Besides, there are similar reports of people having their so-called aura unlocked all over the world," the detective answered.
"Then what do we do now?" the officer asked.
"I've already reported this to some high ups outside our borders. They're sending someone over to keep an eye on the boy before they can decide what to do with him. He should be here in a couple days," the detective explained.
Meanwhile outside the police station, Watson and Yara had just walked out of the building and were now walking down the sidewalk.
"So Watson, how did you... you know...back at the apartment building?" Yara asked.
"This is gonna sound hard to believe but... I somehow unlocked my aura," Watson explained.
"You mean like in that RWBY web show?" Yara asked.
"Yeah," Watson answered.
"And I'm guessing the flaming head has something to do with it?" Yara asked.
"I think that I might have discovered my semblance," Watson said.
They both then stopped walking.
"Well either way you did end up saving me. Thank you," Yara said.
"You're welcome," Watson said.
"Hey Watson, do you mind if I drop by at your house tomorrow?" Yara asked.
"Umm... uh... No, no. You can drop by anytime you want," Watson said.
"Alright. I'll see you tomorrow," Yara said with a chuckle.
Yara splits off from Watson as he watches her leave.
Drug Trafficking Hotel
Meanwhile back at the drug trafficking hotel, Augusto was pasting back and forth looking frustrated as Manuel sat on a sofa, snorting up a few lines of cocaine on the coffee table in front of him. Manuel moaned in excitement as he looked up at his son.
"What's taking them so long? Why aren't they here with Yara yet?" Augusto wondered in frustration.
"Keep your pants on, boy. Shit like this takes time you know," Manuel replied.
"Once she's here, I'll make sure she's mine and mine alone," Augusto said.
Suddenly the door bursts open as one of the other kidnappers collapses to the floor. He quickly gets back as he wrapped his arm around his chest in pain as he was panting in exhaustion.
"Boss! Boss!" the man said.
"What happened to you?" Manuel asked.
"Do you bring Yara with you?" Augusto asked.
"The boy... we shot him... but he survived... somehow... He followed us... He fought us... He killed my partner... And I had to get out of there..." the man explained, panting.
"What about Yara? Did you bring her here?!" Augusto asked, growing more impatient.
"N-no... We had her... but now... she's with the boy," the man answered.
"And you didn't take her with you?! WHEN YOU ESCAPED?!" Augusto yelled.
"She was right next to that... that... monster! Hell, my partner shot him again at one point, and that kid just shrugged it off like it was nothing! His hair was on fire! FIRE! And he wasn't bothered by it in the slightest!" the man yelled.
"Okay, now you're just making this up. You were probably high or something. Besides, I've put that idiot in his place many times and nothing like that has ever happened to me before," Augusto said.
"Then why don't you deal with it yourself if you think it's so easy?! I'm telling you, it really happened!" the man shouted, sounding more terrified.
"Go back out there, bring me Yara, and kill that asshole!" Augusto angrily ordered.
The man pulled out his gun and pointed it at Augusto, making him step back in shock.
"No way, man! I'm not facing that fucking freak again!" the man screamed.
He pointed the gun at himself and then shot himself, killing him instantly.
Augusto stared at the man in shock as the corpse collapsed to the floor. Manuel watched the entire ordeal expressionlessly. He stood up from the couch and walked over to his son.
"He's telling the truth," Manuel said as Augusto turned to his father in shock.
"What? How can you believe this bullshit?!" Augusto asked.
"Haven't you been paying attention to the news lately?" Manuel asked.
He walks over to a laptop, sitting on a table. Manuel opens up his laptop and shows a video feed of a news anchor and an image of the merged Earth and Remnant. Augusto walks over to watch.
"It has been days since our planet and this new world of Remnant have merged together. There have been several reports of individuals surviving accidents, attempted murders, and other situation that would kill or at the very least seriously injure them seemingly without a scratch," the anchor said.
The video feed changes to show an old man with a microphone pointed at him.
"I was working with a buzzsaw, and then I accidently put my hand into the running blade. I would have expected my fingers to be cut off, but to my surprise, my hand was fine. There was not a single scratch on it. It was... It was unbelievable. I'm not sure what happened," the old man said.
The video feed changed again, now showing a mother holding a five year old girl.
"My daughter was out playing in the street when suddenly a speeding car drove up and run her over. I ran up to her and found that she was fine. I took her to the hospital and doctors told me that there were no injuries on her. She was completely fine," the mother explained.
"Wait! Wait! How's that possible?" Augusto asked as the screen switched back to the news anchor.
"Experts had theorized that the reason for these outcomes was because they have unlocked something called an aura, a manifestation on one's soul that acts as a shield and heals minor wounds. This has been occurring all over the world to several people ever since Remnant has become a part of our world," the anchor explained.
Manuel paused the video and looked back at Augusto, who looked infuriated.
"You mean to tell me that Watson is now one of those people with this so-called aura and it's the reason he's still alive?!" Augusto asked.
"Yep," Manuel bluntly answered.
Augusto started to breath heavily, trying to calm himself, but a moment later, he let out a furious yell which was heard throughout the building.
