Chp. 10: Date
Ibirapuera Park
June 19, 2020
The next day at the park, Watson was at the edge of the bridge where he met up with Lucas a few days ago, waiting for Yara to arrive. He leaned against the edge, staring down at the river below.
"Watson!" a familiar voice called to him.
Watson turned to see Yara at one side of the bridge, waving at him. He then walks down the bridge towards Yara.
"Yara, you've made it," Watson said.
"Well, I had to be a little on guard after yesterday," Yara said.
"Yeah, that's true. So where do you want to go?" Watson asked.
"I guess we could just walk around the park a bit," Yara answered.
"As you wish," Watson said.
A few minutes have passed as Watson and Yara strolled through the park. Both Watson and Yara were nervous, but tried not to show it since neither of them had spoken since they started walking.
"Come on, Alexander! Say something! Don't leave her hanging!" Watson thought to himself.
"So... you're a knife collector, huh?" he asked.
"Yeah, it's a little hobby I have. And I taught myself to do tricks with them," Yara answered.
"And you weren't even a little concerned that you gave a couple of them to me?" Watson asked.
"Don't worry. I've got extras. I've collected so many knives that my dad would sometimes call me 'Little Blader'," Yara replied.
"Cute and badass at the same time," Watson said.
"And like I said before, I wanted to thank you for rescuing me yesterday." Yara said.
"And again, you're welcome," Watson said with a chuckle.
"Is this your first time dating someone?" Yara asked.
"Yes...?" Watson answered with hesitation.
"Don't be embarrassed about it. Everyone gets nervous about their first date. And I'm not gonna lie, this is my first time dating and I am nervous about it," Yara said.
"But I've always thought you have dated before. With how popular you are back at school. Heck, there were even a few others that claimed you dated them," Watson said.
"People like them will try to say stuff like that to gain attention to themselves. This is seriously my first time dating someone," Yara explained.
"Oh, so she's like Pyrrha, to an extent," Watson thought.
"I've always had people follow me around a lot back at school. They would just see me as a hot piece of ass or eye candy instead of... well me," Yara said.
"At least it's better than being picked on for most of your life. I would always get daily beatings, fall victim to pranks, or get falsely accused of stuff that I haven't done. And the teachers were no help either. They'd either treat it as kids being kids, turn a blind eye, or in some cases give me detention," Watson explained.
Yara stopped walking as Watson then stopped as well. She took a moment to process this information before she spoke.
"I've always wondered why you were so distant with everyone. I've wanted to see why that is, but I would always get pointed to another direction or something unexpected would come up for me," Yara said.
"Well, aside from that. I was born with autism. I've always had trouble making friends because of it. When I was little I would even have trouble learning many things," Watson said.
Yara placed her hand on Watson's and gave a comforting rub.
"Oh. I'm sorry you had to go through all that," Yara said.
"It's fine. I've had my mom to help me up when I'm at my lowest. I just wish she hadn't passed away from COVID a few months ago," Watson said.
"I'm so sorry for your loss. She sounds like a nice woman," Yara said.
"She was. My mom taught me a lot when I was little. She even taught me how to speak English since she was originally from America. She wanted to take me there one day," Watson said.
Yara placed her hand on Watson's cheek.
"I'm sure you'll get there one day Watson," Yara said with a comforting smile.
A short pause had passed, until Watson spoke.
"So... where do you want to go now?"
"Surprise me," Yara replied with a smirk.
A few hours have passed as Watson and Yara spent the entire time on their date. They had been to a restaurant, toured around a few of the city's landmarks, and went into a few shops where Watson bought Yara a stuffed pig at one of them. Now, they were walking through the city as Yara was carrying the stuffed pig that Watson had bought her.
"Thanks for the pig, Watson. It's so cute," Yara said.
"You're welcome," Watson replied. "I still can't believe you named it Waddles."
"What can I say? I love Gravity Falls. That pig was cute. I couldn't resist," Yara said.
"No argument there," Watson said.
"I've had a good time today. We should do this again sometime," Yara said.
"We should, but I'll be busy working on my parkour with Lucas and practicing with my semblance tomorrow," Watson said.
"Then let me show up to your place tomorrow. I can teach you a few more knife tricks," Yara said.
"Are you sure? I mean, I don't want to waste your time with my needs and I don't want to make you-" before Watson could finish, Yara quickly kissed his cheek. "You know what? Come whenever you want."
"I'll see you tomorrow then," Yara said with a smile.
She turns around and walks away as Watson watches her leave. A moment later, Watson turned around and walked to the other direction. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his iPhone. He speed dialed Lucas and placed his phone in his ear, and waited for an answer.
"Hello?" Lucas answered over the iPhone.
"Hey Lucas, it's me," Watson responded.
"Hey, man. How'd your date go?" Lucas asked.
"Great," Watson answered.
"So what's gonna happen now?" Lucas asked.
"Yara is coming with us tomorrow to teach me how to use my knives, while you help me with my parkour and help me practice with my semblance. Is that fine?" Watson asked.
"Sure, I don't mind," Lucas answered.
As Watson continued walking and talking to his friend on the phone, a crow was sitting on a lamp post, watching him. After a moment, it flapped its wings and proceeded to fly away. It flew over towards Yara as she continued walking. As she continued her paste, two men were leaning against a wall as they watched her pass by.
"There she is. Let's get her to the boss," one of the men whispered.
The two men began to follow Yara. Just before they could get to her, the crow flew over one of them and pooped on his eye as it flew by. He cried out in disgust at the unexpected event.
"Shit! What the fuck was that?!" he cried.
The second man tried to approach but the first man accidentally bashed his elbow against his face. The first man stumbled and grabbed on to the second man's shirt to prevent himself from falling. Both men ended up stumbling into the street, and before they could recover, a bus drove up and ran the two men over.
The bus halted to a stop and as onlookers approached, the crow flew over the bus and landed onto a nearby telephone wire. It watched as Yara walked away, unaware of what had happened. The crow then took off and flew away.
