Title: Drunken Beginnings
Pairing: Cana x Lucy
Requester: jd-the-anime-fan
Prompt: no prompt
"Hold on... gotta take a leak," Cana informed the man at the bar paying for her drinks tonight (the sucker) as she stood up. She wobbled through the crowded bar, making her way to the restroom. It was hot, and noisy, and Cana was pleasantly tipsy. Well on her way to drunk but not anywhere near done for the night. It would take drinking at least two more unsuspecting and determined scuzzballs under the table before she reached a point where she would have to consider how she would make it back to Fairy Hills for the evening.
Just another typical night in the life of Cana.
That was, until she opened the bathroom door.
She didn't notice anything amiss at first, in her need for the facilities. But once she had sat down on the toilet, she took notice that hers wasn't the only occupied stall... and the other person was most decidedly not having a good time.
Hiccuping sobs arose from the stall right beside the one Cana had chosen. The person creating the noise was clearly trying to hush them, aware of the presence of another in the enclosed space, but in the attempt was only warping the sound and making them even more noticeable to the brunette.
Now, Cana had ugly cried in the bathroom on plenty of occasions herself. But she could see a bright blue miniskirt in the space under the stall divider, firmly parked on the floor. This was clearly a dire situation. That floor was nasty.
"Heeeey," Cana drawled out, peering into the partition gap. "You okay over there?"
Another hiccup. "Y-yes," came the response.
"Now that wasn't very convincing. Tell me what's wrong."
After a long pause, Cana wondered if maybe she was slurring her words more than she thought. "Tell Cana aaaaall your troubles. I've been through it all, you know." Inspiration struck, and she dug around in her fuzzy blue purse for a moment. "Here," she said, taking out a tampon and waving it under the gap. "Cana's got you covered."
The other girl drew her knees towards her chest and let out a congested sort of giggle. "Thanks, but that's not it."
Well, at least it had gotten a smile out of her. "Okay. Keep it anyway, just in case."
A small hand reached for the tampon, grasping it weakly. "Thank you."
Cana stared at the space where she thought the other girl's head might be. "How old are you?" she asked. That hand had been too small. It wouldn't be the first time an underage girl had snuck into a bar to have some fun and wound up crying in the bathroom. Hell, Cana had been that girl on numerous occasions.
"Sixteen."
Not much younger than Cana herself, but definitely not of age to be in a bar. She decided to press the core issue again. "So why are you crying?"
"I... I thought I saw..." Another sob wrenched its way out of the girl's throat. "I thought I saw... my dad. And I just... I went into the first place I could find to hide. But now I'm too afraid to leave..."
A cold feeling cut through Cana's buzz and settled heavily in her stomach. Before she knew what she was doing, her mouth was already open. "I got this. I can sneak you out of here."
A pause. "R-really?"
"Really really really. Meet me by the sinks."
"Okay." The relief in her voice was palpable.
Gods above, the poor girl must have been desperate. Lucky for her it was Cana she had met instead of someone trying to take advantage of her.
Cana finished up as quickly as she could, and exited the stall. Standing beside the sink was a lovely blonde, her brown eyes puffy and red from crying. "What's your name?" Cana prompted while she washed her hands.
The girl sniffed. "Lucy."
Once her hands were dried, Cana held one out for Lucy to take. "Let's get out of here, Lucy."
A tentative smile spread across Lucy's face as she took Cana's warm hand in her cold one. "Okay!"
