"Dear Kitty, Let It Be Me," This is based on the song "Let It Be Me." (Written by Pierre Delanoe / Gilbert Becaud / Mann Curtis Sung by Jerry Butler and Betty Everett) No plagiarism intended. Matt decides to write a letter to Kitty.
Dear Kitty,
I'm usually not too handy with words. When we talk with one another, there are so many things I want to say to you, but at the time the words don't seem to come or I get tongue-tied. However, if I sit down and I am given time to think about what I want to say, the words seem to flow much more easily. I have time to collect my thoughts and think about what I want to say. As I sit to write this letter, I think about how much I love that you are a part of my life.
I bless the day I found you. I wasn't even looking for a woman to be in my life, yet there you were sitting in that cafe. Did you belong to someone else? Were you another man's girl? I didn't know the answer at the time. I just knew that if you were available, I wanted you to let it be me.
I wanna stay around you. I know the badge takes me away from you and things we want to do together. I know how much that upsets you and how much you hate it. I absolutely hate it when that happens too. Being away from you breaks my heart. My favorite place to be is with you. You fill me with joy and happiness. Whenever you have time to spend with someone, I beg you to let it be me.
Each time we meet, I find complete love. Making love to you is heaven. You fill me with life. I never knew what making love was until I was with you. Yes, I've been with a few other women, but we never made love. I had sex with them, but l now realize there was no love involved. With you, it's love. Before that first time we made love, I would fantasize about being with you. My heart was begging you to let it be me.
Without your sweet love what would life be? I'll tell you what life would be like. It would be miserable and lonely. Yes, I have good friends in Doc and Chester. I value their friendship. I wouldn't want to lose their friendship. However my friendship with you is on a whole different level. I share things with you that I don't share with Doc and Chester. You are my best friend, my soulmate, and my confidant. I hope when you think of your best friend, your soulmate, and your confidant, you let it be me.
Tell me you'll love me only. Tell me that will never change. I know you could have a different man, if that's what you chose. Many men in Dodge would do anything to be with you. If another man ever tries to make a move, I hope you say no, and that you'll always let it be me.
If for each bit of gladness, someone must taste sadness. Whenever you are having a bad day, I want you to cling to me. I'll bear your sorrow. When you need a shoulder to cry on, let it be me.
Never leave me lonely. My biggest fear is someone using you to get to me. I fear that someone will hurt you or God forbid, kill you just to get revenge against me. I couldn't live without you. If something did happen to you because of me, I don't think I could ever forgive myself. Now when you feel lonely and need some company, let it be me.
Kitty, To you I'm praying. Please, hear what I'm saying. Please, let your heart beat for me, just me. Let it be me.
Love,
Matt
Matt put the letter in an envelope and put it in his inside vest pocket. He knew he was going to see Kitty later that night. He would give Kitty the letter then, when they were together privately. He couldn't wait to give her the letter, but at the same time he was also anxious.
Later that night, after his rounds, Matt walked up the stairs to Kitty's room. When he entered, Kitty was already in a lacy nightgown. It was one she ordered just for him. She had just finished washing her face and taking down her hair. Matt went through his usual routine of removing his boots, gun belt and hat. His vest was usually next, but he didn't remove that. Kitty took notice of that. She knew he planned on staying because he took off his boots, gunbelt, and hat. However, he seemed nervous and Kitty asked him about that.
"Is something wrong, Matt? You seem anxious about something," she said.
"Nothing's really wrong, but I am kind of nervous," Matt answered.
Kitty became concerned. Matt had been nervous when they were first together, but that changed. Why was he nervous now? What was going on? She was afraid to ask him, but needed to know. "Why are you so nervous?"
Matt took a deep breath and reached into his vest pocket. He pulled out the envelope and handed it to Kitty. Kitty took the envelope with a bit of trepidation. She had no idea what the contents of the envelope contained. Carefully, Kitty opened the envelope and pulled out the piece of paper that was inside. She started to read the letter and felt instant relief. The envelope didn't contain bad news.
After Kitty finished reading the letter, she had tears in her eyes. She looked at Matt with those tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. "Cowboy, you never have to worry. I will always let it be you, and I plan on you always letting it be me."
"Kitty, you will be, now and forever," said Matt.
Matt took Kitty in his arms and they sealed their promise with a kiss. Their kiss was followed by a night of passionate lovemaking. Both swore that their lovemaking that night was one of the best they ever experienced with one another. When their bodies joined in union, they gave each other so much pleasure.
As they drifted off to sleep, Matt whispered to Kitty, "Thank you, for letting it be me."
The End
