Chapter 4: Wolf and Dragon

Rhaenyra woke up as she saw her eggs in front of her, she gave a soft sigh as she sat up. She pulled the eggs into her lap and gazed at them adoringly, the young woman smiled softly before carefully carrying all three to the open chest. Despite the weight of stone eggs, they felt weightless to her as she laid them in the chest before lighting the candles. Knocking made her pause as she turned.

"My Lady, it's us," Valaena spoke as Lynara entered. "Lord Stark requests your presence." They curtsied as other maids entered, a tub being brought in along with hot water. Lynara quickly blew out the candles and closed her chest.

"Already?" Rhaenyra questioned, feeling a bit sluggish. She was still waking up as Valaena stripped her. Without waiting she slid into the hot water, Lynara nearly reached in before jerking her hand back at the scalding heat. It made her look at Rhaenyra in shock, it should not surprise her as the girl was used to bathing in hot water, but it still did. "I can wash," Rhaenyra spoke as she took the cloth.

"Alright, we'll pick your outfit." Valaena urged Lynara to stand as they collected her dress. "A fortnight of this and soon they will be gone," she whispered as Lynara frowned.

"At least you are not forced to go. Arya is hateful," Lynara revealed as Rhaenyra sighed softly.

"Sansa, of course, is delighted, as is Bran, though he is somewhat scared," Valaena commented as Rhaenyra frowned.

"She is to marry that little prick," Rhaenyra grumbled as she finished bathing, standing she accepted the cloth and dabbed herself dry while Lynara helped with her slip.

"We can do nothing about it, child," Lynara frowned as the two Valyrian women sighed in defeat. "Come now."

IV

Rhaenyra carefully followed Raynor as he led her, Valaena, and Lynara to Ned's solar. The girl tensed the moment she came upon the King and Queen, who looked like she was swallowing a very bitter lemon. Curtseying as the knight bowed, Rhaenyra sat next to Robb who looked as tense and uncomfortable as she felt.

"Now Rhaenyra, you are aware that you and Robb were to be married with the King's permission. And His Grace has given his consent, you are to marry in a week," Ned spoke quickly seeing the unpleasant look in his son's and ward's faces.

"A test will be done, of course." Cersei quickly intervened as many bit their tongues to not snarl at the queen.

"There will be no need for that! Your Grace please, she is to marry my son," Catelyn begged the King who looked to her and the passive look her ward carried. If she was worried, she'd show it but she held nothing.

"You're right, if Ned raised her, she should be innocent," Robert agreed, aiming his tone at Rhaenyra who nodded.

"The sheets then? Two maids of your choosing will inspect the sheets after the wedding night," Catelyn suggested as Robert paused before nodding. Cersei was seething that her idea was quickly removed by the redhead woman as the Targaryen girl sighed with discomfort.

"Will there be anything else Your Grace?" Robb asked as the King shook his head.

"No, both of you will be spending time with Lord Stark and Lady Stark. Then after that, your father and I will be leaving," Robert claimed as Rhaenyra stood, curtseying for them and left. Robb was fast to follow.

"Rhae?" he called out as she stopped, her maids and guard doing the same. Rhaenyra turned to them and nodded as the women curtsied and left, Raynor nodded as well but walked a few paces to stand at the entrance. "Try to ignore the queen, before you walked in she attempted to convince Father to have our wedding in honor of the Seven," he told her as Rhaenyra froze in shock.

"She was going to insult your family by doing that?"

"Just like having you examined would have insulted you," Robb growled quietly as she smiled and kissed his cheek.

"We'll be fine, just ignore them as much as we can," Rhaenyra commented as he sighed.

"We can try." He embraced her as they thought about how busy the next week will be with them.

IV

Rhaenyra was following Catelyn who was guiding her through the process of the wedding, the cook was asking her what she wanted most. Farah was a loyal woman who had been trying to put some meat on her lady's bones, she tasted all the girl's food before it was delivered to her. It made Rhaenyra uncomfortable that someone was risking their life to prevent her from being killed but she could not stop them, northerners were stubborn.

Catelyn finished with a servant on the decorations before turning back to her ward who told the cook what she wanted. She and Ned already knew what to do and with how little time they had the Lord and Lady took charge as much as possible. They had already received letters of a few lords coming, Cerwyn had already arrived, her brother would arrive soon. Edmure has always had a soft spot in his heart for the young girl and cared for her, not blaming her for her father's sins. Catelyn was also doing her best to keep her away from Cersei, keeping her in her solar to help go over papers and arraignments.

"Why must the queen insist on questioning every choice you make?" Rhaenyra asked as Maester Luwin scoffed.

"She wishes to push everything and try to overthrow anything in northern favor," Catelyn commented as Rhaenyra sighed.

"We are in the North, she has no business trying to impose it in favor of the seven. Robb chose it," Rhaenyra defended his choice as Maester Luwin smiled.

"King Robert knows this, he knows it will be in a northern way," he reassured as Rhaenyra nodded.

"So what am I suppose to be learning from this?" she asked as they sighed. Maester Luwin instantly went back to teaching her as Catelyn looked at them, seeing the ward she raised.

IV

Rhaenyra was grooming Gael, the mare antsy because she had not been ridden in a few days. She knew her mare would get upset about her having to lessen her riding days, Gael was used to her riding almost every day. Robb promised they'd still do their daily rides even when they married, even he enjoyed the free time. Catelyn knew she could never get them to stay within Winterfell, she could always see them returning with Theon and Jon and then sadly teach her grandchildren. It brought a smile to the mother's face every time.

"Don't you have stablehands who do this?" Jaime's voice asked as she turned to see the Kingslayer standing her the stall's door.

"Gael only allows the stablemaster to care for her, other than myself. But he's been busy, so I decided to do it,' she answered as Jaime nodded. He shifted as the snow mare pulled back slightly, proving her rider's words as soothing noises escaped the Valyrian.

"You know High Valyrian," Jaime realized as she paused.

"Maester Luwin taught me, Valaena too but she taught all of us," Rhaenyra revealed as the knight continued to watch her. It was true Valaena spoke in High Valyrian throughout their childhood. She spoke fluently as Maester Luwin could understand her as Ned could, he learned along with the children. So it wasn't uncommon to hear High Valyrian come from the Stark family, but they were doing their best to not speak it during the King's visit.

"Lord Stark allowed it?" the blonde asked.

"She was born with that as her mother tongue, it was something extra we learned," Rhaenyra hoped he would finish his questioning.

"You must be happy you and Robb are marrying?" Jaime continued as he kept his watch as Raynor allowed himself to be seen by the knight who paused, spotting him for the first time. The Karstark must have learned to be quiet early on, the younger must have decided to let the knight know he could hear them.

"Aye, we have waited for many years, and are grateful that the King decided to allow us to marry," Rhaenyra answered. To Jaime, it sounded like someone had taught her to stay it over and over.

"I am sure you are," Jaime said as he straightened. "I will leave you be, have a pleasant night Lady Rhaenyra," he finished in farewell as Raynor stepped closer.

"That was an odd interaction," Raynor stated as Rhaenyra agreed, finishing her brushing as she unbraided the wavy mane. She pulled the hay to her mare before leaving after patting her head a final time.

"I thought so too, it's a good thing he saw you," she added as he sighed.

"Sorry, I thought he would have left earlier," he insisted as Rhaenyra sighed softly.

"It's alright. Let's go." They continued to her chambers as Lynara was there waiting to hear when she saw the strange look on her lady's face. Valaena joined from retrieving a cloth for her lady.

IV

Rhaenyra woke on the day before she was to marry Robb and tensed a giddy feeling mixing with nausea.

"Are you alright?" Valaena asked as she entered watching the expression on the girl's face, she remembered the same sick look across Rhaella's face whenever she became pregnant. She was dreading something.

"Aye. Just can't wait for the King to leave. But I am also dreading when Lord Stark takes the little ones," Rhaenyra replied as Valaena knew it was also Jon leaving that she was going to hate as well. Baela hated that she was not able to spend time with the Stark children before they leave. But Valaena said she was making something for the Starks leaving for luck and safety. "I'm going for a ride," Rhaenyra decided as Lynara came in with a pause.

"You should go over the final decisions with Lady Stark, it is expected of you..." Lynara stopped at seeing the irritated look on the younger girl's face.

"Catelyn knows everything and she was the one to set everything in place. If something is wrong. She'd know," Rhaenyra answered as the women sighed.

"Alright," Valaena agreed as Lynara looked ready to argue. "Come on Lynara, the poor girl has to stay with the Queen up until the wedding starts. She can at least go for a small ride while everyone finishes the preparations." The Northern maid paused before nodding.

"Fine. An hour, no more. Lady Catelyn will be checking in no doubt," Lynara claimed as the other nodded and was dressed in riding clothes. She stood and left with Raynor following after her, he would no doubt go riding with her unless Robb decided to go too.

"Rhae?" Jon called out as Bran followed with Rickon not too far behind. "Are you going on a ride?" he asked in curiosity as she nodded. "Do you want me to come?" Bran and Rickon were already about to complain but Rhaenyra silenced them both with a look.

"I would not mind," the woman agreed as Jon nodded.

"I will walk the boys back to the castle," Raynor decided as the two nodded. The future man of the Night's Watch walked his friend to the stables where the horses were, the stablemaster helped saddle Gael as a stablehand saddled Jon's horse.

"Safe ride you two," he wished as they both nodded and said when they'd be back. Ned always told them to tell someone when they'd be back or when they should return if not accurate.

They trotted into the Wolfswood as Jon noticed her quiet temperament today, normally they would talk and discuss a lot of things. Namely her upcoming wedding, he already spent the morning calming Robb down who was now left in a humorous Theon's hands. The two men have spent their time as the wedding drew closer keeping the Winterfell heir sane, which was hard, as Theon would be cracking jokes every chance he could.

"Are you alright?" Jon asked as she paused, reaching for a flower that was growing from vines beside the path. She spied Ghost ahead as the red-eyed white-furred wolf stayed ahead, but would always turn back to face Jon. He was already the largest despite being the runt of the litter, Grey Wind was not far behind in size as she would watch them play. Their parting will be just like Robb and Jon's, pain in both and mourning the boys they once were. And Rhaenyra would miss the brother she talked to about her dreams and her feelings.

"I think so." She shrugged. "I just feel overwhelmed, I know this is what it will be like when I become Lady Stark." She shuddered as he laughed at her uncomfortable look.

"Too bad you can't come with me," he joked as she snorted with laughter.

"Don't think I couldn't. I know how to hunt and with my hair, I could hide with ease," she grinned as he threw back his head and howled, she joined in as they continued before they reached the heart of the Wolfswood. "Race back?" she asked as he nodded with a giant grin on his face. Both whirled their horses around and snapped their reins as the steeds raced off, Ghost racing alongside them, silent as he was named for. Their horses weaved through the bushes and trees with practiced ease, Gael was still ahead as she breathed heavily as the guard standing watch laughed and cheered them on when they reached the courtyard. Howls of laughter escaped the two as she cheered in triumph, Jon was grinning and panting as they dismounted.

"It is unbecoming of a woman to go galavanting off into the woods with bastards, don't you know that girl?" Joffrey's nasally voice quickly ruined her improved mood as Jon bowed muttering a 'my prince.' She turned and curtsied, keeping her face neutral.

"Please forgive me, My prince, but I exercise my mare daily. Also, Jon is to be my brother and we always race, along with Robb and Theon," she explained. But while it sounded respectful she held the hint of talking down that the prince caught on to his face morphing into an angry one. His guard, The Hound, stepped forward fixating on his charge's mood before a woman appeared with a burning torch, it made the large man back away instantly. The woman worked in the crypts, lighting the torches and checking the statues. She quickly gave one to the Targaryen who took it and followed after her with Jon coming as well with a few others.

"What is this?" Joffrey asked irritated that his torment was being cut off.

"Our respects for the dead, the children promised to help us light them with your father being tended to we have limited numbers, My Prince," the elder claimed a respectful bow added. She walked off with the line following as Joffrey seethed, watching the former princess follow the elder woman. Once they were out of sight Jon turned to the woman.

"Thank you for that, but why did you..."

"The Hound, his guard. The large man seemed to be afraid of fire, I heard, a guard asked a Lannister about his face. The man told him, the guard told me." She nodded as Rhaenyra aided in lighting the torches while Jon snuck off to go inform Valaena where they were and his father who had been looking for him.

"How did that come to pass?" Rhaenyra asked as she came to Lyanna Stark's statue and stared into its eyes.

"His brother, the Mountain that Rides. Shoved his face into the fire when he was a small boy," the woman spoke.

"The same brother who raped and murdered my sister by law, after murdering a defenseless babe." The hate in her tone was present as the woman turned. At that moment the elder reminded her of Septa Mordane.

"Do you know that one should not live in the past as they do not grow nor does it help their health. Rage and Hate are two emotions that truly do no good for us, My lady," she lectured as Rhaenyra smiled softly.

"I'm sorry, I never got your name?" she inquired after lighting the last candle and laid the torch in the pit.

"Septa Unai, I come from White Harbor," the woman informed her as Rhaenyra smiled brightly.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." She curtsied as the older woman laughed gently.

"Oh please, child, I have always admired your family, despite the few bad apples that grew from your family tree. It was a strong and unique dynasty, one that came from the original Valyrians of Old Valyria," Septa Unai told her as they walked through the crypts.

"I hear that there a curse and no one can step foot in the ruins, it is also what caused the downfall of my ancestors," Rhaenyra added.

"They say sorcery or it was an actual natural disaster," Septa Unai countered.

"That would also include the 'arm of Dorne' that once connected East and West before the children flooded it in an attempt to stop the invaders, or it could have happened when the waters became too high and flooded the ground naturally," Rhaenyra finished as the septa laughed with delight.

"Correct, you know the stories well," Septa Unai praised her as they checked their surroundings before continuing with their walk to her chambers.

"As a young child being restricted on her outgoings, you get a lot of stories from the maester you are taught by," Rhaenyra laughed as they entered the castle.

"I will leave you to your duties, my lady. Have a pleasant day," Septa Unai offered as Rhaenyra curtsied.

"You as well Septa Unai." And with that, they parted as she joined the few children she was meant to teach. Rhaenyra continued up to see a frustrated Lynara as Valaena quickly checked her over.

"Are you alright? Jon told us what happened," the Valyrian commented while Lynara helped.

"Thank the gods that it was not his brother," Lynara sighed as Rhaenyra scoffed.

"Lord Stark would not allow that man inside his home. No matter how close his lord is to the King," the girl stated as she knew Ned would fight to ensure that man never stepped foot within Winterfell.

"As it is, King Robert is trying to get Lady Stark or Lord Stark to tell that boy's mother to hand him over to Lord Tywin… Lady Stark's sister. What is her name?" Valaena asked as Lynara paused.

"The Lady of the Vale? Lysa, I believe. And what could they do? The woman's been pinning after Lord Baelish ever since he was a boy. But back when Lady Stark was to marry Lord Brandon, he lost," Lynara continued with a smirk.

"I remember Maester Luwin told me he got a scar?" Rhaenyra inquired.

"From navel to collar bone. The only thing that saved him was Lady Catelyn begging Brandon to not kill him." Lynara remembered her childhood friend. She and quite a few others were cheering him to finish it like it was meant to be. Ending in Petyr Baelish's death.

"Soft-hearted people," Rhaenyra snorted as she watched Valaena braid her hair. "If it is a fight to the death then the losing side must accept the penalty," she finished as Lynara smiled.

"Ned raised you well," the maid praised.

"He taught me that if you are to die then do so with honor. Any other way is a coward's way out," the young woman countered as Valaena beamed.

"Our future Lady Stark," Valaena praised as Lynara beckoned the girl to stand so they could make sure she was all set. "Alright you are all good," Valaena finished as Rhaenyra walked out with her maids following while Raynor led them.

IV

Rhaenyra smiled to her guests as she greeted them all, the last to arrive were the Karstarks, Rickard refused to miss this wedding. His future lord and lady, also he got to see his nephew once more, he talked and overheard how the last few years were going for him. Ned nodded to her as she breathed a soft sigh of relief before Catelyn appeared.

"Alright, you are to bathe and then straight to bed. You are rise early on the morrow. I will come and help you. As our honored guest, the queen has decided to join us and help along with her daughter, Princess Myrcella," Catelyn explained as Rhaenyra sighed in quiet irritation. She was nervous as it was!

"Aye, I will have everything prepared," she agreed before leaving with her maids as Robb gave her a small smile as she returned it. Valaena quickly prepared everything for her as the bath had already been drawn with Septa Mordane overseeing everything as Lynara added lavender and rose oils to the water.

"Do you need anything, My Lady?" Septa Mordane asked.

"No, thank you for overseeing everything Septa," Rhaenyra thanked her former teacher who nodded once more and left. "That woman still scares me, do I feel sorry for Arya." Rhaenyra winced as her maids laughed after they started stripping her. She quickly settled into the hot water as it started to soothe her muscles, she rubbed the cloth against her skin as her hair was soaked and rung out by Valaena.

"The willful child that will never be tamed," Valaena agreed as Lynara chuckled.

"Everyone thought the same with Lyanna but she became a lady, in the end, she was just like Arya," the brunette said softly. She and Lyanna got along and would go riding together. When she first thought of being the maid to the one who's family is responsible for why the North was in a scramble. Ned had admitted to her that he had been unprepared to rule. Coming home as not only the Lord of Winterfell but a father to two boys and gained a new ward of the former princess of House Targaryen. Many had been shocked by his decision to take in the young girl before the slaughter of her family reached their ears, many held sympathy for the girl who's nephew and niece were killed horribly and her sister by law, a Princess of Dorne as well.

"And because the southerners didn't like that a northern wedding takes place at night, it will be settled at dusk, that is the latest the queen would relent until the King told her that was the last of it," Lynara said as Rhaenyra growled.

"She will complain even when she's back in King's Landing." Rhaenyra hated the queen, it was true and known. Everyone who knew the young woman knew she feared the King but hated the Queen.

"Well don't worry, they will be gone soon," Valaena soothed as she helped her lady get out after braiding her wet hair, Lynara aided in patting her dry while a clean slip was offered.

"Along with the children," Rhaenyra whispered sadly.

"You can always send letters. It's how you Daenerys got along," Valaena commented as she pulled down the furs.

"Sansa would do that without hesitation. Arya though is a stubborn pup," Lynara countered. "Bran would need help," the maid commented with a chuckle.

"Of course he would, he is still learning. Like Rickon," Rhaenyra sighed with a smile. Rickon had been unhappy about learning that his family was going to King's Landing, but he was happy that his brother and Rhaenyra were finally marrying. He liked hearing about it since he wouldn't be allowed to participate after the ceremony. As it would go later on in the night the children would be sent to bed. Joffrey was about to complain that he would be allowed to stay up before his father agreed with the idea. Not wanting to deal with children during the party. The Prince had pouted and sneered about how northern weddings were a bore. But the only reason Ned was doing this was because of his young ones who naturally would have stayed awake during the whole ceremony and party. He did not want them exposed to the King's indecent behavior with the women while his wife sat among them, Ned had been grateful they were all preoccupied during the welcoming feast. But the girls were fine with that as were the boys. Sansa was happy to see the ceremony, Arya did not care, but both Bran and Rickon did not understand it other than that Rhaenyra would become their sister.

"Go to bed child. You will worry too much to sleep," Valaena warned as she opened the chest containing the eggs. Rhaenyra stared at them and rubbed the shells once more before picking them up and putting them back into her bed. She sat in bed before blowing the candle at her bedside out, she laid down and once again ran her fingers over the scales, the one grey tone was completely gone as her eggs now held a 'healthy' tone as Maester Luwin put it for once for some hen eggs. He was the few who helped teach the kids about the differences in eatable eggs and ones that held chicks.

"Sweet dreams, Alysanne, Rhaenys, Rhaella." She fell asleep with her hand resting on the blood-colored egg, dreaming of a dragon of the same coloring, her orange eyes lighting up with her blood-red flames. Even if these dreams seemed ominous they soothed her to sleep as she dreamt of dragons once more.

IV

Rhaenyra jumped as she felt hands shake her awake as a curtain was opened.

"Seven hells!" she cursed softly as Valaena bustled around and did a double-take on the eggs in the bed. Saying nothing she quickly removed them one-by-one and rubbing her hands as the stones weighed a bit. Closing and locking the chest she grunted softly as she moved the chest under the bed to hide it from view. Carefully Lynara started to undo the tight braid that had held the damp hair in place.

Rhaenyra weakly pushed the heavy furs away before standing with some problem before effortlessly walking to the tub as Lynara helped in stripping her. As always she entered the burning bathwater that soothed her muscles while the women worked about, Valaena gently passed her a cloth while the girl washed when Lynara added oils, lavender and rose, as they let the water cool, they made sure everything was done when Lady Catelyn entered to help prepare. Valaena ventured over and tested the waters before grabbing her hair that was soaking and started to ring it out before adding oils to it, the water seemed to not bother her as she worked on getting her lady ready.

"Do you have any questions Rhae?" Valaena asked, knowing her lady needed the familiarity, no titles.

"No, I know what to do and what to expect. I just worry about not pleasing Robb," she mumbled softly as the women scoffed.

"He loves you, Sweet Dragon," Lynara called, using the childhood nickname Jon Arryn had called her and so did Maester Aemon. "Not only has Ned told me himself, but you can also spot it, just like your usual lovestruck, girl crush on the young man himself," the northerner grinned as the white-haired girl blushed. Despite the girl not showing so much emotion on the outside others could see her real facade, Ned had claimed all one had to do was read her eyes, Catelyn said she could never hide her real emotions, her face and eyes usually say two different things.

"Believe me, I know he loves me," she muttered, eyes a bit wide as hands froze on her head as the women smiled and giggled together.

"Come now, Lady Catelyn will be appearing soon, you must be at least out of the water with a slip on," Lynara ordered as the young woman stood without a beat, Valaena stood to retrieve the slip while Lynara helped her lady out. The air seemed to help Rhaenyra dry off quickly as her body just barely held dampness when she placed on her slip.

Carefully she walked to the mirror so Lynara could start on her hair, gently brushing and caressing the tresses, her hair was just at her elbows, Rhaenyra usually wore a tight knot at the top of her head the rest flowing down but today she was going to allow her maids to choose for her. Valaena was going to braid the outer layer before creating a bun allowing the middle to lay down while some will go on her shoulders.

Catelyn appeared dressed in a simple dress to help her ward ready for the wedding. A few of her maids brought the dress in carefully keeping it hung up. Sansa skipped in with Arya being pushed by Septa Mordane, the brunette looked unhappy about being up before being ushered to the bed by Rhaenyra who didn't mind her sleeping as Catelyn sighed with exasperation.

"It's fine," Rhaenyra smiled as Catelyn urged her to continue getting ready, she would wake Arya up when the queen arrived.

"Are you ready?" Catelyn asked as Rhaenyra paused, thinking it over truly. Yes and no she felt, she loved Robb that was true, but she was terrified of the aftermath.

"I guess so," she answered before a knock on the door interrupted them.

"Queen Cersei and Princess Myrcella have arrived," Raynor announced as Catelyn jumped to wake Arya who grumbled and sat up. Sansa opened the door with a bright smile as Cersei came in, she examined them as Myrcella came in with a bright smile. Catelyn tensed at seeing the look of boredom on the queen's face as Myrcella asked questions about the northern wedding.

"Mother says that women in the North wear white dresses on their wedding day, is that true?" Myrcella asked quite quickly surprising the Targaryen who looked to her instantly.

"Aye, Princess," she started, making sure to address the younger with respect and her title. "I am not sure why but many like it, I assume to support the purity of the brides and for the Gods," the former Princess informed the other who nodded with an interesting look while Cersei went to sit on the bed with Catelyn who watched the woman with hidden caution. Myrcella was given a chair beside the young bride so they could continue to talk, that was all Rhaenyra could do while the maids worked on her hair and makeup while Sansa happily pulled the dress out to show the women.

"And why do they take place at night? Wouldn't it be easier to be during the day?" Myrcella asked again as she watched the bride being cared for by her maids.

"It's just how it has always been Princess," Lynara answered as she started in on the intricate braids that Rhaenyra was meant to have, starting at the crown, braiding the outer layer, tying it off before. Her hair was in waves except for the outer layer which looked like a net when she did the same and braided it all together, her dress was made of fur and thin material. Her maiden cloak was folded up nicely behind, Valaena made sure the cloak remained in pristine condition.

"Why do people make such big deals about these?" Arya asked confused as Lynara laughed softly, gently rubbing the girl's shoulder, knowing she'd probably be with her brothers if she could.

"Because it is meant to be fun!" Myrcella beamed as she looked at the dress with Sansa who agreed, Arya just pouted and sat on the bed to be away from everything. While Rhaenyra did her best to ignore the Queen, the Princess chatted away as the woman smiled softly, the girl obviously held no fear of the older girl any longer.

"Well, I can see you all have it under control, come Myrcella. We must get you presentable as well," Cersei demanded as the girl frowned before following her mother as they left. The moment she left Lynara locked the door in seconds as Rhaenyra sighed softly with Valaena rubbing her shoulders.

"Why was she even here?" Arya asked as Catelyn sighed.

"I do not know Arya. Alright, come on, we must get you ready," the matriarch demanded as the other nodded.

"Aye, Lady Catelyn," Rhaenyra smirked as the woman sighed.

IV

Rhaenyra sighed softly as she stood feeling Lynara hook the cloak as Catelyn looked at her. Rhaenyra was wearing a white-furred, white cotton material dress, the only thing showing was her collarbone.

"There, done." Valaena beamed as she finished. Pinning her hair that might loosen.

"You are beautiful, Rhae," Catelyn praised as Sansa tried not to cry along with Valaena, even Arya looked at her in shock. Rhaenyra smiled at the praise, cheeks redding a bit before a knock came.

"Lord Stark, My Lady," Raynor announced as Catelyn let her husband inside.

"Tears are for sorrow," he spoke softly as he saw the women bar Arya and the bride herself. "Though today will bring tears from a few others," he laughed as they did the same. Catelyn guided her girls out and intended for them to be checked over before being led to the ceremony. Ned stared at his ward as Lynara and Valaena left, giving the lord some privacy with the girl he had raised and thought of as his own for fifteen years. "Are you still worried?" Ned asked with curiosity.

"A bit," she admitted, slowly approaching the chest Lynara had recovered, she intended to move it during the wedding to her new chambers. As she opened her chest Ned approached as well, rarely seeing the eggs, the last he saw they were greyish with their primary colors, but now the grey is all but gone. They were beautiful, he will admit that, but they still filled him with dread at the thought of those beasts being alive at one point. He stared at his ward to see her reaction as she stared at her eggs, but there was nothing he saw. He saw nothing but the adoration of her ancestral heirlooms that his former caretaker protected.

"All will be well tonight, Rhae. Soon you will be married to Robb, everything will be alright. I promise you that," Ned swore, bringing her into a fatherly hug as she clutched him tightly. He hoped he could continue to keep that promise to her. "Let's go," he decided as Raynor entered with a nod. Ned closed the chest and walked away as he led Rhaenyra out, passing Valaena who nodded. She was going to be removing certain things to the new chambers so no one will notice them.

IV

Ned, who was Lord Stark, he'd be officiating the wedding, he had told Rhaenyra that Theon would be her escort. Both were 'ward siblings' as Tyrion called them, the bride was normally escorted by a male member of her family but as they are dead or in another land, her surrogate would be her escort. The guests had already received their torches and started the march to the Heart Tree as Rhaenyra waited with Theon.

"You're pretty," he praised her as she chuckled softly.

"I honestly can not wait for this to be over with," Rhaenyra admitted as he smirked.

"Are you terrified?" he asked.

"Very." She looked to him with a small smile before Raynor nodded to them to start their march, the sky was slowly starting to darken as they walked, Rhaenyra felt like she was going to her death when the crowd turned to her but as she kept her eyes on Robb who looked from his smiling father to his betrothed, a small smile slowly grew, keeping arm-in-arm with Theon as they walked further down, her violet eyes spied the royals; Robert, his face stern as he watched with indifferent eyes, Cersei and Joffrey both wished to not be here, but Tyrion, Myrcella and Tommen were smiling, the small man gave her an encouraging nod his brother though watched her with an unreadable expression. When Theon stopped, so did she, they had reached Robb and Ned, both of whom smiled at her as she returned it.

"Who comes before the Old Gods this night?" Ned asked as Theon answered.

"Rhaenyra Stormborn, of the House Targaryen, comes here to be wed. A woman of true birth and noble. She comes to beg the blessing of the Gods. Who comes to claim her?" Theon asked as Robb stepped forward.

"Robb, of House Stark, heir to Winterfell. Who gives her?" he answered.

"Theon, of House Greyjoy, ward brother to Lady Rhaenyra," he answered before stepping back to allow Robb to take her.

"Lady Rhaenyra, do you take this man?" Ned asked, smiling softly.

"I take this man," Rhaenyra agreed, keeping eye contact with Robb, taking his hand before they knelt and bowed their heads respectfully to the Old Gods. The moment Ned urged them to stand Robb removed her maiden cloak before attaching the bridal cloak when she turned he kissed her and they lifted their joined hands while many cheered. The exiled princess saw the royals, a few of them cheered while others remained silent, and then it was done. Rhaenyra blessed for short weddings, remembering the Faith of the Seven weddings, they were so long and quite boring with all the prayers. She clutched Robb's hand as he nodded to her, she wasn't going to like this part, she thought with a whine.

"Bear with me," he murmured silently before picking her up to carry her to the feast as the northerners cheered, the lords jeering at them making the family laugh and the couple blush, the girl more than the man. Rhaenyra felt like she was heavy despite Robb having done this before, hell they even practiced the carrying part when they'd go on rides together, he told her she weighs nothing, to him and she does.

"I hate this part," she whispered as he grinned when he felt Rickard Karstark smack his shoulder but grinned at the girl who smirked.

"Oh hush, your mine now," he reminded her as she glared playfully.

"That means your mine," she countered as he hummed softly.

"Aye, wife," he agreed, making her chuckle.

IV

Rhaenyra giggled as she watched the guests dance and enjoy themselves. She also watched Rodrik nearly force a cup down Raynor's throat, the guard was slightly hesitant but accepted the cup offered by a grinning Ned.

"We finally get to see him drink," Robb joked as she laughed along with him, sipping from the cup she'd been drinking from. Farah filled her table with plenty of foods, Robb had stolen a few pieces of the lamb, joking how she preferred them just like their dragons were rumored to like. She scoffed at that but said nothing, she couldn't. Rhaenyra just liked the taste, that and deer meat. Robb found it funny and enjoyed teasing her, something he enjoyed doing.

"He rarely does so, I think he does not enjoy it," Rhaenyra mused as Robb played with her hand he was happy that he could now give her physical affection out in the open without it being improper. He was nervous, unlike most, he did not sleep with other women, he did not want her to think that he would sleep around, sadly like their King.

"He does, he just doesn't do it as much," Robb commented as she smiled and looked at the party. The Northerners and Southerners celebrated and shared stories. Rhaenyra enjoyed watching it as she continued to hold Robb's hand and was grateful northern feasts were not like the southern ones that held many prayers and feasted for hours.

"Might I dance with the bride?" Tyrion asked as Rhaenyra smiled and looked to her husband with a quirked eyebrow, that Tyrion did not see, as he nodded.

"Of course, My Lord," Robb smiled, knowing this was the only Lannister his wife liked. That sounded strange. His only female best friend was his wife. He continued to watch as she smiled while she danced with the Imp who made her laugh before they finished as she was turned to Greatjon, who danced with large steps, he smirked at seeing her trying to keep up, laughing when Benjen stole her as she yelped with a loud laugh. Robb smiled as he continued to watch her bond with other northern lords, it was simple innocent greeting their future lady, many liked her for her sweet nature. He frowned when he saw others looking at her with guarded looks, Cersei of course barely held in her hate for the young woman but Jaime hadn't given any hate or bad looks, he just... looked at her. Robb couldn't understand the look the man continuously gave her and it made him quite odd. It drove him nuts trying to place it before a hand surprised him on his shoulder making him jump as Robert came right to him. "Y-Your Grace," he greeted before the King kept him down.

"Its alright lad," Robert slurred, Robb could already tell he was drunk. "A Targaryen marrying a Stark. Never thought I'd see the day," he mumbled taking another drink.

"We do appreciate that you allowed us to marry, Your Grace. We swear to be loyal to the throne," Robb swore, the Starks would always be loyal but at the moment he didn't want to talk with the King, who terrified his wife and was a drunk whoring man. Rhaenyra had once told him she was embarrassed he was the King, she wished someone else had claimed the throne instead of him. They all did and were not liking the next choice.

"Put a son in her and it'll bind the line for good," Robert continued as Robb gripped his covered fist.

"Now that they're married and unlike southern weddings that have many prayers, it is time for the bedding ceremony!" Robert's voice boomed as Rhaenyra felt her body fill with dread. Robb grabbed her hand a bit tighter to reassure her before the northern men approached, hauling her up as women surrounded Robb, giggling as they took his hands and pulled at his clothes. The men holding the bride started to tear pieces of her dress. They cheered and sure, pinching and commenting about everything. Gods, she thought Theon was bad, but these men were worse. They took the slip off when they reached the chambers, now she was naked as the days she was born.

"It'll be easier this way," Rickard spoke before another opened the door and she was pushed inside.

"She's ready for you Robb, enjoy!" Greatjon called as the door was slammed shut, leaving her in the darkened room, a few candles lit. Her eyes spied her egg chest beside a table, she felt a bit calmer at seeing it near her.

"Gods, they're loud," Robb's voice made her turn to see him as naked as her. She felt her cheeks redden within seconds and was happy there was only the candlelight, one could not tell.

"Aye...they...are..." Rhaenyra stammered, her nerves now coming around once more.

"Hey, it's alright," Robb murmured as he approached her, gently he kissed her deeply as her hands softly laid against his stomach and then encircled his waist as he continued to kiss her. Slowly her hands started to wander his body as his own did the same, one going to her hair as the other glided down her back. Soon his lips started to go down her neck he quickly pulled her to the bed as a moan escaped her. She quickly laid on the bed as he followed, kissing her knee that brought a smile to her face as he continued up before kissing her breasts and latched onto a nipple as she moaned quickly. Robb groaned at feeling her grind against him, he pulled her hips harder against his own as he felt his excitement build-up. One of her hands grabbed his hair as he swapped breasts while his hand fondled the other. She whimpered as she felt his cock rub against her lower lips, Robb instantly abandoned her chest and reclaimed her lips as she moaned against his mouth as he continued to shallowly thrust against her. Her legs quickly wrapped around his waist as he growled against her lips. He moved his hand from her waist and carefully slid it down to her wet folds as she moaned, feeling his lips go down her neck and nip it occasionally. Robb softly rubbed her as he felt how wet she was, groaning softly as he used his free hand to position himself. Robb softly nipped back up to her lips as he laid his forehead to hers.

"This is only going to hurt a moment, I promise you," he swore. It was sad Baela told him these things as he did want to ask his mother, Gods forbid. She told him what it felt like for her, how uncomfortable it was when the man entered, but it dulled after a bit then it was enjoyable. Just give the woman time, she said. But Valaena had personally told Rhaenyra what to expect, telling her it would take time for it to not be uncomfortable.

Robb softly kissed her as he quickly pushed in as she yelped, feeling her maidenhead being torn as he kissed her face while she panted and dug her nails into his back. "I'm sorry love," he shushed her as she breathed in deeply through her nose, her face pressed into his shoulder. Slowly, she moved her hips as he groaned, she still felt a pinch but it was bearable. Softly kissing his shoulder, Rhaenyra pulled him in a bit deeper, moaning in slight pain but mostly pleasure.

"I'm fine," Rhaenyra moaned out softly as Robb groaned in relief. He gave a small thrust against her as she gasped softly, Robb listened to every noise she made as his movements grew. Rhaenyra whimpered softly as he slowly moved to where his arms caged her head as he pressed a kiss to her bruised lips he forced his tongue in as she moaned, wrapping a leg around his waist, allowing him to go deeper.

"Gods you're becoming tight," he muttered as she smirked. She pressed kisses to his neck and shoulder as he bit her shoulder.

"Faster, Robb," Rhaenyra urged as he obeyed, shifting his hips he started to move his hips faster as she whimpered, feeling her legs twitch as her core tightened. Robb groaned as Rhaenyra's nails dug into his back and tightened her walls. It only took a few more thrusts before he spent himself inside as she came as well. They panted and laid against one another as the sweat cooled their skin, Robb remained above her for a few more moments before he pressed a few more kisses to her skin. "Enough, I'm too tired to go again," Rhaenyra whine playfully as he grinned. He continued to kiss her skin before giving a final loving kiss to her forehead as her eyes slowly started to close while he retrieved their furs. Robb pressed another kiss to her temple as he laid down beside her as she curled up to him.

"My beautiful dragon," he smirked as she growled.

"Stop calling me that," she hissed as the brunette chuckled.

"Why?" he teased as she glared, indigo eyes hazy with sleep.

"Because it's irritating, you've been calling me 'Rhae' for years," she grumbled as he chuckled, kissing her forehead.

"Well, you are a dragon, Rhae. And you're all mine," he claimed as she laughed.

"Goodnight Robb," she wished as snuggled into him a bit more. He laughed and held her close before falling asleep.

IV

Robb woke to see his wife sleeping on her stomach, they had woken up a few more times in the night to continue their fun. It was when they heard the birds starting to sing that they finally exhausted themselves to sleep. He softly leaned over, kissing her shoulder as Rhaenyra moaned softly, she buried her face into the pillow to hide it from the sun and her husband.

"Fuck off Stark, you didn't let me sleep," she growled before rolling away to sleep more. They spent a few hours sleep before he woke them back up to go a few more times, she didn't complain but she wished she did.

"You weren't complaining and the marks on my back prove me right," he growled in her ear, nipping her neck and shoulder as she shuddered. But a knock made them both freeze, Rhaenyra confusingly looked to her husband as he frowned.

"Lord Robb, Lady Rhaenyra," Valaena called as Robb stood, retrieving his robe before ushering Rhaenyra to do the same. He helped her put it on before calling for her to enter as two women followed. The way they carried themselves, they belonged to the queen. "Quickly do your job!" Valaena ordered with a snarl as they jumped with startled looks. The girls approached the bed as one yanked the discarded sheets to see the bloodstains, they nodded to one another before bowing to the lord and lady. Looking at Rhaenyra with hidden disgust as Valaena towered over them, eyes almost glowing. "Leave, now," she snarled. Holding nothing back for these girls as they fled in fear, they stopped at Lynara's entrance before moving aside for the elder maid, her cold look could rival the king's as she walked in slowly, fixing them with a look.

"Are you satisfied? Will it satisfy your mistress?" she questioned as She asked as they stuttered.

"I believe it will Ma'am," the youngest spoke softly as the other, a few years her elder looked down.

"On your way now," Lynara ordered as maids entered with a tub and jugs of hot water. Robb laughed as he watched the maids scurried away, fearfully looking back before running away to the queen.

"One would think you two are either mother to Rhae," he laughed as the women beamed.

"Well, my lord. We'll always look out for her. Especially with Lannisters and Baratheons nearby," Valaena promised as a chuckle left Raynor who closed the door after the last maid brought hot water.

"Gods help the one who thinks to test it," the guard called as he made sure the door was secured.

"Your father wishes to speak with you, Robb," Lynara spoke as Robb nodded. He retrieved his clothes as the women moved to the divider so Robb could dress quickly, Rhaenyra undid her robe as Robb left, saying goodbye to his wife before going to his father. Rhaenyra climbed into the tub, enjoying the heat the soothed her muscles.

"How do you feel?" Valaena asked with a small smile.

"Fine, pain in a few places," Rhaenyra admitted as Lynara laughed, both watched as Rhaenyra washed, Valaena helped untangle her hair. The maid of northern blood gathered her lady's clothing, she watched as her lady sat in the water before a small nudge for her to climb out. She accepted the cloth and patted herself while Valaena braided her hair. A knock made Lynara quickly opened it after making sure her lady was hidden. She opened it barely before accepting the letter offered by Raynor.

"It's from Maester Luwin, it's from Daenerys," the guard claimed as Lynara retrieved it before bringing it to her as she sat in her robe. She opened it to read her sister's letter. Daenerys was married to Khal Drogo, her situation was rough, but she gained a new friend. Ser Jorah Mormont, a disgraced knight. It went on to explain her new situation.

"Dany was married to the Khal. She claims it is rough for her to acclimate to the culture. But she also has a new companion in the horde," Rhaenyra claimed as Valaena hummed interested. Maester Luwin snuck her the letters as Valaena could bring them to him.

"Who?" Lynara asked as she looked to the girl.

"A Ser Jorah Mormont, he is from Bear Island," Rhaenyra answered as Lynara froze.

"What?" she asked coming up to the vanity as Rhaenyra offered up the letter.

"He has claimed to Viserys, giving his sword to the fool," Rhaenyra announced as she sat against the chair.

"Then let's hope your brother fails, the Dothraki will never cross, we will continue to say this until you all understand." Valaena looked her straight in the eye with a firm look. "Come along, let's get you ready," she softly nudged the girl to stand so they could dress her. Rhaenyra made her way down to the great hall to eat. Sansa happily greeted the young woman, Arya, Bran, and Rickon greeted her calmly. As Jon sat among them as she spied the royals up higher, Joffrey looked bored as always. His family, bar his mother, were conversing with one another, occasionally Cersei would answer a question from a child.

"So how was your night?" Jon asked with a grin as she smacked him. Thank the gods Theon was not here otherwise she would have rethought breakfast.

"I'm going to go climbing today," Bran spoke to his siblings, thankfully getting them off subject as Rhaenyra turned to the boy.

"Bran," she sighed as he frowned.

"Please don't tell mother! I will be going to the Broken Tower, I climb that all the time," Bran tried as she growled softly.

"All right, but please be careful," Rhaenyra sighed in defeat, knowing she could not dissuade him. He would only find another place to crawl, she will at least know where he will be when she has to bring him to his mother.

"Mother hates you climbing and it is unbecoming of a lord, Bran." Sansa started before Arya interrupted her.

"You would complain until everyone is just like you," Arya spoke loudly as Jon sighed.

"Arya, please, not here," Rhaenyra asked as Arya sighed. "If you do, then I will pull you from lessons today. Deal?" Rhaenyra asked as Sansa looked ready to complain before Rhaennyra aimed a look at her.

"Deal," Arya grumbled before leaving after cleaning her plate of grapes Septa Mordane ordered her to pick this morning for her fruit.

"She should not miss lessons," Sansa hinted before Rhaenyra sighed.

"Sansa." She fixed the girl with a look. "You are her sister, not her mother, teacher nor caregiver. But her sister," Rhaenyra told Sansa who swallowed and gave a simple nod as the others looked down. Rhaenyra was the only one to truly get in between the fighting sisters, without her, the two might kill one another. "I will have Lynara or Valaena do her stitching with her, I know that is the lesson today." Rhaenyra ate only a few things before standing as she wasn't very hungry. Valaena looked down in worry as Jon frowned, knowing his friend ate more than that in the mornings.

"My Lady, are you well?" Raynor asked in worry as his lady sighed softly.

"Yes, it's just…" Rhaenyra stopped thining as she saw Ned and Benjen laughing together. "I cannot understand Sansa and Arya's… fighting," she shrugged as they continued before spotting Robb who looked a bit irritated. "Robb, what is it?" the young woman asked in worry.

"I am to go hunting with the King," he growled softly.

"I doubt you will go alone," she offered with a smile.

"Other than the bastard who gets to accompany his father, his little uncle then yes because my father decided Theon, Jory, Uncle Benjen and Ser Roderick will be joining too," he claimed

"Would you like Raynor to join you? I know he enjoys hunting as much as I do," Rhaenyra encouraged as her guard paused before shrugging, he enjoyed hunting like the boys and used to go with his lady and her friends. "I'll be playing with the children no doubt, so I'll be safe," Rhaenyra promised as the men frowned.

"Rhae, I don't feel comfortable leaving you here by yourself, especially with the Queen and her brother staying behind," Robb complained as Valaeana spoke up.

"Be at ease, we will look after her," Valaena swore as Raynor nodded. He trusted the maids at keeping that promise. "Go, have fun, and keep an eye on them," she nodded to the southerners who were gathering up.

"Have fun ladies," Raynor called as Rhaenyra kissed Robb's cheek.

"Safe hunting boys," Rhaenyra requested as they agreed before mounting up. Ned looked worried before seeing two maids with smiles. He gave them both firm nods and startled to talk with Raynor who occasionally told Robb something. The women spied Bran who smiled and raced off as his direwolf he has yet to name followed after. Rhaenyra turned and walked to the tiltyard to see Jon playing with Rickon and their direwolves. Sansa and the Princess have been together since they were being prepared to pack and go South, Arya was missing, no doubt playing with her direwolf. Grey Wind had gone with Robb to hunt, he enjoyed it.

IV

Rhaenyra had given up the game with the children and Jon to go in favor of searching for Bran, his father will be returning soon and it will be time for lunch. She remembered he was going to the Broken Tower to feed the crows that settle up there. Carefully while humming she continued on her way, spying the broken building once she cleared rubble. Howls and whimpers made her jog a bit faster as she recognized the wolf sound. It was one of the pups no doubt. Bran's since he was the only one in this direction.

"Bran?" Rhaenyra called out as she walked further.

"Rhaenyra!" Another shout made her turn back and see Valaena following as well, looking irritated. She had a reason, Rhaenyra had disappeared after she had finished playing with Rickon, Arya, and Jon along with the wolves. Knowing the woman would just shout at her the young woman hurried along, she followed the direwolf's noises and saw him watching Bran balance oddly, Rhaenyra frowned as she thought she saw him holding onto something before Bran was falling, panic quickly filled the young woman as she ran. The direwolf moved as she came under the boy as he fell into her, both were knocked back making her cry out, the force to the ground was enough to make her lose consciousness while Bran laid beside her on the ground. The pup was howling and barking as Valaena came into view, horrid dread made Valaena race to her charge's aid as she shook both children. She started to shout for help as the wolf howled, when she looked up to the tower in confusion she thought she saw a head disappear.

"Rhae? Bran?" Valaena called softly as the maid felt for any breaks she had been taught by Maester Luwin. She heard the guards come and called for more aid as they surrounded the nobles, another aided in trying to rouse the pair as the wolf continued to howl.
