Chapter 5: Awakening

Robb felt dread fill him as he sat beside his wife as she slept, unlike Bran, she was simply sleeping. Valaena had been inconsolable as she told the returning party what she found. Ned had to console both his wife and son but also the rest of his family as everyone tried to understand what happened. Theon had gone to tell Baela what was going on as another servant who knew where she was kept sending her notes from her mother and others.

Maester Luwin examined Bran and explained there was something odd about his spine, but he was certain the boy was not to die, but in a deeper sleep than Rhaenyra. He also said Rhaenyra must have hit her head when she fell backward. No tenderness nor bleeding and she was responsive to tests, so she was alive. Catelyn could not understand it, what had caused them both to fall? Valaena said she thought she saw Bran at the top of the Broken Tower at some point, but when she ran to them he had fallen into the young woman. She feared that both had been wounded.

Robb refused to leave her, staying beside her as he would care for her, Theon and Jon were grieving as well as many of the people who overheard of Rhaenyra and Bran's sleep.

"Please wake, My Love. Please, we've waited so long to marry, don't leave me now," Robb begged as he held her hand. She'd been asleep for three days now.

Rhaenyra heard the shrieks and felt the cold, she turned and looked, she saw a large grey wolf before it grew into a giant dragon, with glowing eyes and a now shrouded dragon. It roared and breathed fire as she did not burn, she felt her clothes burn and her jewelry melt but not her. Before feeling a sudden pain in her chest, her lungs. She felt like she needed to breathe but couldn't.

"Take a breath Rhae. It's all right," the voice urged as she obeyed.

She gasped awake and shuddered as Robb gave a soft laugh as he held her head. She coughed as he carefully gave her some water.

"Robb, Bran?"

"He sleeps. But do not worry about him." Rhaenyra sighed sadly as she closed her eyes, feeling something lick her fingers, looking down she saw Grey Wind who whined at her and nudged her hand as she weakly stroked his ears. He crawled up a bit more to lick her left arm as Robb continued to caress her right.

"How long have I been asleep?" Rhaenyra asked.

"Three days. You woke on your name day," he laughed as she smiled weakly. He kissed her hand happily as Rhaenyra lifted her head to see her egg chest open. "I found those when I was looking for some clothes to wet on your forehead. Safe to say I am interested," Robb smiled to her as she groaned with a wince.

"I'm sorry...I have been meaning to tell you...I just haven't figured out the right way," she stuttered as he smiled.

"It's all right. You can tell me now, as you are meant to stay in bed until Maester Luwin clears you from bed rest," he ordered as she sighed with a playful glare.

"I am sad, I must remain in bed," she pouted with a smile as he laughed.

"And work on your needlework as Valaena ordered for making her have to search for you," he teased. She whined again, causing him to laugh once more as she settled a little differently against the pillows.

"I got the eggs from uncle Jon. They were nested there by a dragon when my ancestors lived there, he gave them to me for my tenth nameday." She explained as Robb hummed interestedly. "Your aunt Lysa said they should have been hers, as she was Lady of the Vale," she continued as he scoffed.

"My aunt would say they deserve to have the crown that once belonged to the Arryns," he commented as she smiled. A frantic knock came as Robb sighed. "That would no doubt be Valaena," Robb suspected as he stood to answer. "And I was correct." He grinned as Valaena sighed and came in as Lynara shook her head with a smile.

"The moment we heard you talking we told your father and siblings," Lynara admitted as Robb nodded.

"Thank you, Lynara," he answered, allowing her inside.

"it was dangerous! Either of you could have been killed!" Valaena was ranting at her as Robb sighed.

"I understand Valaena," Rhaennyra soothed as Grey Wind huffed a growl as he barked as well.

V

Rhaenyra was up in a few days, Robb at her side as she would walk carefully alongside Maester Luwin. He would ask her questions about her health and how she felt, she kept dreaming of the tower and that dragon. But she did not mention that to anyone. She had gone to see Catelyn who wept at seeing her awake and together they sat with Bran, praying together. Maester Luwin explained when he examined the bones there were no breaks that he felt. He said the boy will live to everyone's happiness.

Heaving a sigh Rhaenyra walked around Winter Town with Raynor close to her to keep her safe. Sansa had made her a beautiful cloth with the Targaryen and Stark sigils, she kept it folded and inside her egg chest. Arya had been asking what happened before Robb or Raynor would growl at her to stop asking as she could not remember too well. She was trying, she swore she knew. Robb had told her that it was alright and it would eventually return to her. Grey Wind she noted clung to her more and more. It confused her as Robb would not even be close to her and the direwolf would appear growling.

Many happily greeted her as she smiled back to them, she always stopped by a certain stall that carried handmade trinkets. They were always cute and if she liked one they would become a gift to someone. She found two that looked identical but was a bit different; one was a pendant that held the Seven-Pointed Star, it was meant to be a necklace, then the other was a beautiful Tulip flower she heard grows in Dorne, she thought they'd be good gifts. The owner of the cart was a very nice man, he had a daughter and son who both died a few years after the rebellion from sickness but had three little ones running around that she knew of. His wife was a bit younger but very sweet when Rhaenyra met her once, he knew the young girl well as she bought a bunch of his items and used them for ideas or gifts.

"How much?" she asked, motioning to the two charms.

"7 silvers, my lady," he smiled as she grinned. Many of the merchants knew her as she loved strolling through the markets with the Starks or her maids, so she knew certain prices might be off for her.

"Thank you," she thanked him, offering the coin of silver and plucking the items. "Do you possibly have chains for these? I was going to gift them to two little ones," she smiled as he nodded, all too happy.

"Of course! I was curious, My Lady. I apologize for saying so but I assumed you were a Valyrian child, not a Faith child," he thought looking through his chains, looking for his best for the charms.

"I am. But the children who these are for I assume their parents raised them in Light of the Seven," Rhaenyra surmised as she accepted the two identical lengths of chain.

"That's very kind of you miss," the merchant beamed, he said goodbye as she left, leaving some more silver for the chains too. As she continued on hiding her package in her sleeves, before spotting Tyrion Lannister exiting the local brothel, a happy grin on his face.

"My Lady," Tyrion's voice made Raynor grip his sword.

"Stop," she whispered as she left the wolf who had been nudging for her to be pet. Both males were tensed around the Lannister man as he approached with his own guard. "My Lord," she greeted while curtseying as the guard bowed.

"I am glad you are well, the Starks were in sorrow since your and Bran's incident," Tyrion spoke as Raynor narrowed his eyes. "Many pray for Bran's awakening as well. It has postponed the King's decision to leave, they plan to stay a few more days in hope for the boy's awakening." His words both brought a bit of relief to the young woman but also agitation. She had to deal with the queen a few more days.

"I pray every day, Maester Luwin tells me that I helped prevent his death, but his life still remains within the Gods' arms," Rhaenyra sighed, she felt responsible because of Bran's fall. She did not warn Catelyn about the boy's climb.

"Worry not, I am sure he will wake soon. You should be glad My Lady, his back is not broken," Tyrion said gently.

She nodded and seemed to remember the gift. "I actually had a present for the young Prince and Princess, no offense My Lord but your oldest nephew is not a favorite," she explained as Tyrion shook his head.

"I hold no sympathies for my oldest nephew, no offense taken. But you have something for Myrcella and Tommen. That you cannot give in the open?" he asked curiously.

"I fear your sister and her husband would make the children throw them away simply because I gave them. But I had hoped you could give these to them, I assumed your nephew and niece were raised in the Light of the Seven?" she asked as the man nodded.

"Yes." He took the necklaces and smiled. "A star for Tommen and the flower is for Myrcella I assume?" he asked as she nodded. "I will ensure they receive them and do not tell their parents about them. You are right, my sister would personally throw them away if she knew," he commented as she smiled gratefully.

"Thank you, my Lord." She curtseyed as he bowed. "My Lady." He and the Lannister guard stepped aside as she and Raynor continued on with Grey Wind following. Rhaenyra walked back to the castle as Robb came into view.

"There you are." Robb smiled as she gave him a small one back. "Come, you must rest still," Robb urged, not wanting her to push herself while she's still recovering. Rhaenyra felt like he was coddling her now.

"Robb, I am fine." He frowned at her denying her resting.

"My Lady, you should rest," Raynor urged as she frowned, the men were crowding.

"All right, fine," she agreed with a sigh as Robb led her away with Grey Wind following.

V

Rhaenyra sighed once more at being confined to the bed. She had gotten up to look at her eggs and just stared. Being drawn to them as she picked up the golden one, slowly she brought the egg to the hearth as it burned brightly. Robb had undressed her to her slip hoping she would sleep, Maester Luwin has reassured them she should be fine. Before he had gone to be of help to his father, he had put more firewood in the fire for her to be warm. The Targaryen did not know where this feeling was coming from as she continued to hold the egg and stare into the fire as she ran her thumb on the scaled shell. Slowly she started to push the egg into the burning logs, she continued to stare as Rhaenyra watched waiting for something to happen before she shook her head and took the stone from the fire. She froze as she stared at the stone that was not hot to her and yet it was in a fire just moments ago. Rhaenyra felt her throat constrict as she felt nauseated, making sure it would not burn anything. She set the egg into its chest and removed the handkerchief. Rhaenyra calmly got in bed as she thought about her dream, it wasn't her first dragon one. Valaena just told her not to tell those ones. Baela was the one she had always shared those dreams with, but with them being separated she could not. Robb had gone to attend to his duties as Ned and Maester Luwin helped cover Lady Stark's own chores. Rhaenyra was still recovering and would take over the Lady of Winterfell's duties. Catelyn would never leave Bran's side until he awoke, Rhaenyra knew this as she was a devoted mother. She has been by her son's side since his fall, barely eating and barely sleeping, from what Rhaenyra has been told. As Catelyn would have been helping her and Robb fully take over their duties when Ned left. Her thoughts were cut off by Robb entering their chambers with Grey Wind.

"Did you not sleep?" Robb asked as she sighed.

"Robb, I can only sleep so much. But I would like to try and start working on the accounts," Rhaenyra requested as he sighed. "Lord Stark will be leaving with the girls soon, the maester told me the King has put off his return for a week, but can do no more," Rhaenyra spoke while Robb readied himself for bed.

"I know, Father has been trying to get Mother to understand. But it would appear Rickon is taking this the hardest. He has been in a rage for hours," Robb revealed as he climbed into bed, Grey Wind leaped up, lying across her feet while Robb laid alongside her.

"His father and sister are leaving and now his brother is in a deep sleep. He is barely six and cannot understand what is fully going on." Rhaenyra understood the boy's mindset. It was the same when Ned had gone to fight against the Greyjoy army, she had been older but could not understand why Ned had to go. "Tomorrow we should try to get him to understand once more. It is not forever just for a bit," Rhaenyra commented as she laid against Robb who smiled and pressed a kiss to her head.

"Of course. Jon is nervous in telling him about leaving for the wall," Robb laughed as his wife giggled.

"A grown man nervous to tell a child he is leaving. I find the humor in that," Rhaenyra commented as Robb hummed.

"He knows Rickon will be angry with him," the Stark defended his brother as Rhaenyra agreed with a soft noise.

"Rickon is angry with everyone," Rhaenyra answered before slowly feeling her eyes drift close, she would find her good brother tomorrow and go on a ride. Rickon would do well to go to the Godswood and play with the wolves.

"Goodnight, Love." Robb kissed her forehead as her breathing evened out. The heir to Winterfell knew he was acting overprotective with Rhaenyra but he felt it necessary as he knew how many hated her family so she would always be targeted but his love for her made him act foolishly on occasion. But there was nothing he wouldn't do for her and his family.

Tyrion awoke with a jerk, as the morning sun streamed into his eyes. "Better-looking bitches than you're used to, Uncle?" The voice was that of his eldest nephew. "My mother's been looking for you. We ride for King's Landing today."

He stood up from his place in the kennels and regarded Joffrey with a frown. "Before you go, you will call on Lord and Lady Stark and offer your sympathies."

Joffrey scowled at his uncle. "What good will my sympathies do them?"

"None," the Imp replied patiently, but it is expected of you. Your absence has already been noted."

"The boy means nothing to me." The scowl was even deeper. "Besides, I can't stand the wailing of women."

Tyrion reached up and slapped the boy across the face. "One word and I'll hit you again," he said mildly.

"I'm telling mother!" Joffrey whimpered.

"Go! Tell her." Tyrion said contemptuously. "But first you will get to Lord and Lady Stark and you will fall on your knees in front of them and tell them how very sorry you are, that you are at their service, and that all your prayers are with them. Do you understand?"

"You can't..." Joffrey began but was interrupted by another slap from Tyrion.

"Do you understand?" he repeated sternly.

As Joffrey ran off, a voice spoke behind the Imp. "The Prince will remember that, little lord."

"I hope so," Tyrion said cheerfully. "If he forgets, be a good dog and remind him." And with that, he strode off, whistling.

"Little brother," Jaime greeted him as he sat down at the breakfast table.

Tyrion returned the greeting. "Beloved siblings."

"Is Bran going to die?" Myrcella asked suddenly as Tyrion looked to his sweet-natured niece with a gentle smile.

"No," Tyrion told her brightly, noticing the nervous look Cersei gave Jaime who swallowed. Myrcella and Tommen shared happy looks at the fact that their newfound friend might make it.

"What do you mean?" Cersei asked as Tyrion looked to her.

"The Maester says he will live, as the girl woke so shall he," the imp spoke as Jaime breathed out in relief.

"The northern gods are cruel to allow a child to be in this much pain, it is no mercy," Cersei commented as Tyrion shrugged.

"Only the Gods know," he replied before Jaime spoke up.

"What were the maester's words, Tyrion?" the knight asked as Tyrion ate the food that was given to him.

"Maester Luwin said if he were to die he would have done so already," Tyrion recited as the twins exchanged a quick glance.

"Will Bran get better, Uncle?" Tommen asked as curious as a seven-year-old could.

"Maybe, maybe not. As the Lady Rhaenyra was the one who caught him, saving him from possible death or a broken back," Tyrion revealed as Jaime swallowed thickly. "It is a blessing she was not injured as well," the dwarf spoke in happiness. The girl was sweet but he could see the hidden fire in her eyes that marked her as a Targaryen. "But he also could use a cane for the rest of his life." Tyrion hoped not, the boy was a climber, despite that being the reason he was hurt.

"But how has he been eating?" Myrcella asked curiously.

"With honey-water, until he wakes when he can eat real food," Tyrion answered as the children smiled while the mother and brother pair looked to one another in alarm before continuing to talk about the wolves that would be accompanying them south with the girls.

V

Rhaenyra was carefully making her way to Sansa's chambers after sitting with Maester Luwin and working on the accounts. Taking inventory was easy for her to do while thinking about what she should do for her family. Knocking she entered as Septa Mordane curtsied to her.

"My Lady," she greeted with a proud smile. She always said Rhaenyra was her most willful student who refused to be a true lady like Sansa.

"Septa Mordane," Rhaenyra bowed her head respectfully. "May I have a moment with Sansa?" she requested as the teacher nodded.

"Of course, My Lady." She was fast to shoo the other maids out.

"Can you believe it! I am going to King's Landing, I will be queen when I am older," Sansa babbled to Rhaenyra who smiled. Hiding her true pain and fear of the Lannister family. Lady whined as she stood and pawed Rhaenyra's hand as she pets the direwolf's ears, the she-wolf truly held her master's personality.

"I am happy for you Sansa," Rhaenyra told her as she paused, sensing the tone as well.

"I am sure once everything is over and the wedding happens, you can come up..." Sansa stopped abruptly at seeing the look in the woman's eye. Rhaenyra gave her a small smile as she sat on Sansa's bed while the redhead joined her.

"Sansa, I am a Targaryen. I will never be welcomed in King's Landing so long as Robert's children live. You know this," Rhaenyra corrected her gently as Sansa looked down. "But you could always visit me, once you're the queen," Rhaenyra reassured her. She knew that once the girls were south, the people there would keep them. Marrying them off to southern lords or princes, Rhaenyra would never see these girls again. She knew that, and she accepted it.

"I will, I cannot wait to see any children you and Robb will have." She beamed as Rhaenyra laughed.

"I hope it is later and not sooner, we have all our lives to have children," Rhaenyra commented. She was scared, her mother died birthing her and Daenerys, Rhaella had suffered miscarriages and stillbirths that scared Rhaenyra. The young woman knew some followed in their mother's footsteps. She only hoped she did not. "But I am going to go and see Arya. Ensure she is packing and not causing havoc as she always has," Rhaenyra spoke as Sansa smiled.

"She has been unruly since finding out, like Rickon," Sansa sighed with a small frown.

"He is upset everyone is leaving and he cannot understand at his small age, but he will. Arya, on the other hand, is a northern child who prefers the north," Rhaenyra revealed while Sansa frowned confusedly.

"But we are going to King's Landing!" The girl was so in love with Princes and knights that she always dreamed of meeting a prince. She was even enthralled with Rhaenyra's family history and her heritage, most were, in fact.

"Please remember Sansa. You are a northern girl, you are a wolf." She touched the beaming redhead's cheek as the girl took the hand, holding it close. "Wolves stay together. They must. I know you and Arya fight, but you must stick together should anything happen." Rhaenyra fixed the young girl with a stern look. "Promise me that you and Arya will always look out for one another. As Lady and Nymeria are sisters, so are you two, two sides of the same coin I would think," Rhaenyra explained with a smile. "The gentle lady and then the fierce warrior. You two are as opposite as night and day, but you both value your family, always remember." She smiled as Sansa gave a shaky smile, embracing the Targaryen woman who held her close.

"I promise," Sansa swore.

"Always stay true to your honor, it is strong with both your mother and father, Dōna Zokla," Rhaenyra ordered as the girl nodded when they parted. "You better pack quickly, child. Before Septa Mordane does it for you and finds things you dislike, she did so to me," Rhaenyra warned as Sansa smiled and nodded, quickly she returned to her packing as the maids returned. Making her way to Arya's chambers she greeted all the servants who helped prepare for Lord Stark's departure. She entered without knocking as Arya was throwing things to her trunks while Nymeria retrieved whatever fell free from her master's arms, Nymeria would also grab a few things that were laid out. Rhaenyra always witnessed the smart antics of these future large wolves. They will be quite a challenge once they reach maturity, even Maester Luwin could not find recordings of wolf sizes. As Direwolves have been extinct south of the Wall for centuries, as they've been spotted by the Night's Watch members, so many were curious about the fully grown wolves. Rhaenyra could not wait, she already loved the wolves each for their respective personalities.

"Septa Mordane says I must redo my folding, my things weren't properly folded. Ladies take pride in neatly folded clothes. Why does that matter, they're going to get all messed up anyway," Arya growled as Rheanyra gently helped fold things up. She knew how picky the old woman was, and Arya was still upset about going to King's Landing.

"She will try and tame you still, Ziry Zokla. But you will be as wild as the wolves surrounding our forests," Rhaenyra praised as Arya embraced the older girl. Arya wanted to stay with her family here in Winterfell, she was a northern child, she belonged here in the North with her family.

"I don't want to go," Arya whispered as Rhaenyra rubbed her back in an attempt to soothe her. They sat on Arya's bed as she sniffed.

"You have too, Arya. It is your father's order. You can always write to me, practice your High Valyrian." She smiled as Arya smiled back.

"I could," she spoke as Nymeria laid her growing head across their laps. "I don't want to leave Bran. He still sleeps but he needs to be surrounded by his family." She looked to the older girl who ran a hand down her head.

"He will live, Arya. Maester Luwin says so," she spoke in belief. She prayed he woke soon, she wanted him to wake. "Come, let's keep packing, I'll help." Rhaenyra urged her to stand as Nymeria huffed.

V

Jon slowly entered Bran's chambers as he spotted Catelyn sitting there, still working on a prayer wheel. He was hesitant to approach before sighing with resolve. This would possibly be the last time he'd have to see Catelyn. She must have noticed as she turned, her exhausted face made him wish he could comfort her. Despite her attitude, he understood her anger towards his father.

"My Lady," he greeted respectfully as she looked down and continued. He approached as he explained quickly. "I only came to say my farewell."

"Then say it," she urged quickly as he paused a moment before continuing, he knelt beside Bran's bedside and held his small hand.

"I wish I was here when you wake, but I will be a man of the Night's Watch. When you wake and regain your strength, when you can come to visit me we can walk the length of the Wall, you've always admired the stories of the North," he spoke before, placing a hand against Bran's forehead. He snuck a quick glance at Catelyn who was gripping the prayer wheel tightly. Standing, he bowed to her and said goodbye before leaving as he brushed alongside his father who gripped his shoulder. Jon stopped by his chamber to retrieve his present to Arya as he continued on to her chambers. Ghost had rejoined him as he opened the cracked door completely to see Arya putting things inside her trunks as he spotted Rhaenyra helping in picking things up with Nymeria snatching silk items as well when directed to by Arya. She dropped the last thing she picked up to greet the pair with a small yip, alerting the two ladies to Jon's presence.

"Jon." Rhaenyra beamed as the other smiled. "Have you come to say goodbye to Arya?" she asked curiously as Jon nodded. "All right, I'll go. Finish packing Arya," Rhaenyra ordered as the girl nodded with a frown. "Just a trunk left and then you are done," Rhaenyra soothed while leaving, petting the two wolves.

"Robb was looking for you," Jon called as she nodded.

"I'll find him," she answered while walking out as Jon looked around to the room in disarray.

"I was afraid you left already," Arya admitted as she embraced him. "They wouldn't let me out to say goodbye," she frowned as he laughed.

"What did you do?" he asked.

"Septa Mordane said my things weren't properly folded," Arya answered as Jon nodded. That sounded like the Septa. "She said southern ladies didn't throw their things into their trunks."

"Is that what you did?" Jon asked as he sat in a cleared spot on her bed as she continued to pack the trunk with Nymeria still helping as Ghost watched.

"They're going to get all messed up anyway! Why should I care if they are folded properly?" Arya growled as Nymeria paused with a skirt in her mouth, ears forward in alertness.

"Sept Mordane and I do not think she will like Nymeria helping," Jon commented as she sighed. "And I have something that needs to be packed carefully," he told as she perked up.

"A present?" she asked as he nodded.

"Aye, now close the door," he ordered as she obeyed, the wolves watched as he pulled out the sword he had made for her. Arya's eyes lit up. "I had Mikken make it special for you," Jon explained as he allowed her to take the weapon. "This is no toy," he told her. "Be careful you don't cut yourself. The edges are sharp."

"I'll be careful," she promised as he sighed.

"It can't hack a man's head off but you can poke him full of holes if you're quick enough," Jon explained as she nodded.

"I can be quick," Arya smirked with a hint of mischievous in her eyes.

"You'll have to work at it every day." He watched the sword in her hands, holding it. "How does it feel? Do you like the balance?"

"I think so," Arya said as she turned it a bit.

"The first lesson," Jon said. "Stick them with the pointy end." Arya gave him a whap on the arm with the flat of her blade. The blow stung, but Jon found himself grinning like an idiot.

"I know which end to use," Arya countered before a doubtful look crossed her face suddenly. "Septa Mordane will take it away from me."

"Not if she doesn't know you have it," Jon grinned. "Does it have a name?" he asked. Arya stared at it long before a smile came onto her lips.

"Sansa always said we ladies should work with needles, but she can keep her sewing needles. I have my very own," Arya said as he nodded with a proud smile. They embraced once more when she placed the blade down as Jon closed his eyes, he had said goodbye to every sibling, even Sansa though she did it with grace and politeness as she had taken after her lady mother. Jon never held it against her, his gentle sister did not belong in the South, she belonged with the Starks here in the North, like Arya and their father.

V

"Jon." The bastard turned to see Rhaenyra walking down with her maids. "Are you ready to leave yet?" She wanted to show him something.

"Almost, I'm going down to meet up with Uncle Benjen," he spoke as she nodded.

"I wanted to show you something before you left," Rhaenyra urged as he looked curiously at her before following as Raynor who had held the door for everyone. They entered her chambers as Jon looked on with interest. Rhaenyra grabbed her chest and urged Jon closer. He approached as she showed what was inside, he was shocked, to say the least. There inside were three stone eggs, he looked on in shock as he touched one, the cold stone made him slowly pick one up, the blue one, as she watched with a small smile.

"Where..." he trailed off as she picked up the red one. Jon continued to look at the one he held as she answered.

"Jon Arryn gave them to me for my tenth nameday," she explained as he looked to her with surprise still in his eyes. "No one knows except Lord Stark." Jon could not find words, what could one say about ancient eggs that used to hatch powerful creatures?

"They're beautiful," he smiled as they laid the eggs back into the chest. "They are right to go to you," he continued as Valaena smiled while Lynara closed her eyes, thinking of her lady's ancestors' mistakes.

"I just wanted to show you before you left. I've kept them hidden for a long time," she admitted as she placed the chest back in its original spot. "I can't believe you're leaving," she spoke as Jon hugged her tightly.

"We can always send letters," he laughed as she embraced him just as tight.

"You're more than one of my best friends Jon. You're my brother, always." They parted as he embraced Valaena and Lynara before saying goodbye to Raynor who said farewell.

V

Rhaenyra stood alongside Robb as she held Rickon's hand. The boy had been sullen the entire farewell, his father and sisters reassured him they'll see one another again. But he only frowned and looked down. Ned understood his youngest son's anger, his father was leaving when his family needed him most.

"Winterfell is under your care now," Ned stated as he approached his son and good-daughter. "Maester Luwin will of course help," he continued as Robert mounted up and started off with his party, the northerners were starting to mount up themselves.

"We will protect the North, Father. I promise," Robb swore as Ned smiled.

"I know you will, Robb. A wolf and a dragon are a powerful pair," Ned said as Rhaenyra narrowed her eyes in confusion. "And should the Gods see fit, you two will be blessed with a child of your own to contend with," he continued smirking as Rhaenyra blushed as Robb cleared his throat.

"We have time, Father." Robb knew his father would want to hear of grandchildren early on but he and Rhaenyra were content if they did not have children right away. They were young and had time.

"You don't realize how little time you truly have once you become Lord Stark, truly. But aye, you do have time." A squire approached.

"My Lord, we must leave," he urged as Ned nodded before embracing the three as the cart carrying Arya and Sansa disappeared. Their direwolves raced off as Grey Wind whined, and Rhaenyra desperately tried to keep her nausea settled. She hated watching her family leave.

"Stay safe," he ordered as they nodded. Many shouted their farewells to Ned and his family as he waved before riding off after his daughters.

hours later, Rhaenyra sat in her chambers staring at her eggs. Robb was finishing up before returning to their bed chambers. It had taken her longer to get Rickon to sleep, he had been insistent to stay up before the pair ordered him to lay down and go to sleep. She originally had been reading a book her uncle sent, it was about dragons, an old volume by some archmaester. She jumped when she felt Robb kiss her temple. She had been too distracted in thinking to hear his footsteps.

"You are thinking too much. I can see it in your eyes," Robb joked as she scoffed.

"When do I not think too much?" Rhaenyra asked as Robb chuckled.

"Come to bed, Love," he requested as she nodded, wanting to go to sleep with her beside him. Rhaenyra closed her egg chest before shedding her robe and joined Robb as she dreamt of dragons.
