AN:

Hey everyone! Thanks for being patient! Work has ramped up and I've had no time to write! I only have three weeks left until holidays so expect heaps of updates once I'm on holidays! I'm not super happy with this chapter, I may end up rewriting and updating at a later date but stay tuned!

Also people said there's an issue with chapter 5. I've had a look and it seems to all be there but I'll reupload that one as well and hopefully that fixes the issue!

Thanks again for all your wonderful reviews and hopefully you enjoy this one!

Chapter 6:

Standing at the front door, Sofia hesitated before putting her key into the lock and letting herself into the house. It was the first time in weeks that Callie had beaten Sofia home and she knew for sure that Arizona would have already called her. Sighing, she pushed the door open and entered the house, unsure of what she was walking into. She knew her mother wasn't going to be happy but it was either going to be angry and yelling or disappointed and soft. The second one always made her feel more guilty. Callie knew exactly what to say to make her feel bad about whatever mistake she had made. The light in the kitchen was on so that was where Sofia headed.

"No thank you Arizona, for letting me know. I'll be sure to talk to her. Yeah. Great. No, thank you again. Okay bye."

Sofia had not expected to walk in on the phone call between her mother and her principal. She was thankful it had only been the end and not the whole thing. There is no way she would have been able to listen to one side of the conversation and endure Callie's death stare.

"So," Callie said angrily, breaking Sofia out of her thoughts, "wanna start talking or should I"?

"Mama," Sofia pleaded, "I'm sorry."

"Sorry? That's all you have to say," Callie asked, her voice raising slightly.

"I know! I just wanted everyone to be happy!"

"So you tried to play matchmaker after I had repeatedly told you to let it go?"

"You won't do it yourself! I was trying to help," Sofia said sadly.

"I cannot believe you Mija! After everything we talked about."

"But we haven't talked about it," Sofia yelled. "Every time I try to talk about it you shut me down! I'm not a little kid anymore Mama, I know what's going on! I see things and I understand things and I need you to talk to me!"

Sofia watched as Callie processed what she was saying. She hadn't meant to yell at her mother. In fact, she planned to do the opposite, to just sit and let Callie yell at her all she liked.

"I know," Callie said softly, "I know you're not a little kid anymore and I hate that I can't protect you from those things like I used to."

Sofia sighed. "I love you Mama and I just want you to be happy. I know that Erica did a number on you but not everyone is like her. Arizona isn't like her at all."

"I know," Callie admitted, "but it's not that simple and it's not any of your business. Especially with Arizona, you don't get to meddle in her life Sofia. She is your principal. As for Erica, I didn't realise it affected you so much, what happened between us."

"Of course it affected me Mama! I hate what she did to you. I hate her even more than I did before," Sofia said angrily. "But I hear what you're saying and I promise I won't meddle anymore, especially with Arizona."

"Thank you, baby girl. I think you need to apologise to Arizona as well, she's been so good to you and she could have suspended you from school!"

Sofia sighed as Callie embraced her in a hug. "Okay Mama, I will at our next tutoring session. I love you."

"I love you too but you are very grounded for the next month, chores are doubled, no phone when you're not at school and you're going to have to tell your dad what you did," Callie informed her daughter as she pulled away from their hug.

"No, don't make me tell Daddy, please!"

"Sorry baby, but you gotta tell him."

"Ugh I hate this," Sofia groaned as she stormed off to her room.

"What's got you so grumpy at the moment," Arizona's best friend and one of the chemistry teachers at the school asked her as she sat down to eat her lunch. "Is this about Callie," Teddy asked in a whisper.

Teddy and Arizona had become quick friends since Arizona started at the school. Over the years they had become incredibly close. Arizona was the maid of honour at Teddy's wedding and is now the godmother to her first born. Teddy was the first person Arizona called when she got her promotion to principal. Teddy was also the only person Arizona had told about Callie and how she felt about her.

"Ugh," Arizona groaned, "yes."

"What happened? Did she say no?"

"No! Not because I asked though. I haven't asked and now I can't ask not that I was going to because she's a parent of a student and god," Arizona whined, hitting her head on the table.

"She's the first woman you've legitimately liked since I've known you. Why can't you just date her and see what happens?"

"Because I had to call her yesterday to tell her that her daughter was getting in trouble on purpose to try and get us together. I get Sofia was trying to help but as if Callie is going to agree now!"

"Maybe, and I don't know if this is a wild idea or not, but have you tried asking Callie? It might be better than jumping to conclusions," Teddy suggested, half laughing at her friend.

"Shut up and stop making sense and just let me wallow in self pity for a while," Arizona joked as she stole one of Teddy's carrots.

"Hey! I have to fight for food at home, I'm not fighting you here at school. We both know I'd win. Why didn't you bring your own lunch?"

"I was going to go and get something on my lunch break but I have to be in a budget meeting in like 5 minutes but I needed to vent to you first. How's Henry going?"

"He's killing it but I miss him. Thank god there's only like 4 more games of the season and two are home games," Teddy smiled. "Now back to Callie…"

"Oh look at the time! I have to get back to my office and get everything ready for the meeting," Arizona smiled as she grabbed another carrot from Teddy.

"Hey! Call her!" Teddy yelled out to her friend as she walked away. Arizona's only acknowledgement of the advice was a quick wave over her shoulder.

Staring at her phone, Sofia ran her fingers over the screen, trying to avoid making the call she knew she had to make. It had been two days since Arizona had informed Callie about her little plan. Even though they had talked it through again, Sofia made sure that she didn't step a toe out of line. Even though Callie hadn't yelled, she knew that her mother was insanely disappointed in her. She'd been a perfect daughter but it didn't matter what she did, Callie still said she had to tell her dad.

Her dad.

She hadn't spoken to him in a few months, At least, not a full phone conversation, They had shared text messages and even some snapchats, but not a phone call. Every time she had called him, he had been in surgery and by the time he was able to call her back she was either sleep or in class. With a big sigh, she unlocked the phone and found her dad's contact details. As she put the phone to her ear, she said a silent prayer that he wouldn't get too angry and fly out just to yell at her.

"What did he say," Callie asked as her daughter joined her on the couch.

"He said if I ever do anything like that again I'll lose my college fund and he will personally escort me to military school," Sofia answered.

"I think he took it relatively well then," Callie joked.

"I guess," Sofia agreed.

"Wait until Abuelo finds out!"

"NO! You can't tell him Mama. It's so embarrassing now. I have to see Dr Robbins everyday and then do tutoring with her twice a week."

"Didn't think about that did you? Did you really think it was going to work? That I'd fall into her arms?"

Sofia thought for a moment. She hadn't actually envisioned exactly how it would bring the two woman together. She had just hoped it would. She had hoped that they would talk and realise that they wanted to be together and go out on a date. She hadn't envisioned it not working.

"Not exactly," Sofia admitted. "The details of what happened after we ended up in Dr Robbins' office were not thought out. Just that it would end with me not in trouble and you guys on a date."

"Well you can put your little fantasy to rest. Even if I wanted to ask Dr Robbins out, I think you ruined any chance I would have had," Callie smiled softly as Sofia lay down on the couch, her head in her mother's lap.

"So you admit you wanted to ask her out?"

"I admit that I think she's cute," Callie smiled, her hand running through Sofia's hair. "I don't admit to wanting to ask her out."

"I'm sorry Ma, I really am."

"I know sweetheart, I know you are. I can tell because I haven't had to do the dishes all the weekend. That doesn't mean you get out of apologising to Dr Robbins though. You made a mistake and now you have to face the consequences."

"Will you help call me call Abeulo? He'll be nicer if you are on the phone," Sofia said quietly a she snuggled into her mother.

"Of course. I can't wait to see what his reaction to you almost being suspended is going to be over the phone. When I almost got suspended he went off at me in Spanish for over an hour. Made me volunteer at a homeless shelter to remind me what my life could become," Callie chuckled.

"You almost got suspended? What did you do?"

"Something I'm not going to tell you about until you're older. Much, much older!"

"Worse than what I did," Sofa enquired, looking up at Callie.

"Hmmm." Callie thought for a moment. "What I did was different to you. I think he's going to be madder at you than he was at me. My thing only involved me."

"That doesn't make me feel better! You're supposed to make me feel better," Sofia pouted.

"If you call him now it means he can't get on a plane until tomorrow so he might calm down by the time he gets here," Callie suggested.

"Wait would he really fly here," Sofia panicked.

"Oh for sure. He's going to want to personally whoop your ass," Callie chuckled.

Sofia groaned as she put a pillow over her face. She really hadn't thought about what would have happened if it all went wrong. She definitely didn't count on her mother getting her dad and Abeulo to do her dirty work for her. Disappointing them was the last thing Sofia ever wanted to do. She knew how highly the two men thought of her. Coming back from this was going to be difficult.

Sofia stood outside Arizona's office. It had been a week since she had last seen her principal and it was not a good memory. They should have had a tutoring session since but Arizona had to cancel because the school board had called an emergency meeting about funding to fix a burst water main that had flooded the gym. Sofia had only seen Arizona in passing so she had no idea how upset she was going to be with her. Her worst fear was that she had ruined their relationship over what she had done.

"Dr Robbins?"

Arizona looked up from her paperwork to see the young brunette looking very anxious at her door. She could tell the young girl was nervous about their first tutoring session since the incident, not that Arizona was angry about it anymore. In fact, she hadn't really been angry at Sofia at all. She'd been angry at herself for not having the courage to ask Callie out before the girl had decided to try and set them up.

"Sofia, come in," Arizona smiled, "I've got lots planned for our session today."

Sofia smiled at how friendly Arizona was being. It felt as if her actions hadn't changed anything between them. Feeling a bit better, Sofia took a deep breath and sat down at her usual spot in the office.

"Umm Dr Robbins, I know I apologised last week but I just want to say I am really sorry. I shouldn't have meddled in your life, especially because you have been so good to me. It's not my business who you date and I understand if you want to stop our tutoring sessions because of it."

Arizona stopped walking towards the table Sofia was sitting at. Not once had to crossed her mind to cease their sessions.

"Sofia, stop. If I wanted to cancel tutoring would you be sitting here right now? No. And you don't have to apologise, you already did that last week. I told you, We're okay," Arizona smiled sweetly.

"Thanks. My mama, dad and Abeulo all said I had to apologise again. They said once wasn't enough."

Arizona laughed as Sofia informed her of everyone's reactions when she had told them what had happened.

"So I have to do this like six week volunteer course at a church he found through some friends. He hasn't told them why I'm volunteering but he forbid me to put it on my college applications because it's a punishment and he said I shouldn't benefit from my poor choice in judgement. Then he ranted in Spanish and said I was exactly like my mother but I know he didn't mean it in a good way this time," Sofia told her principal.

"Wow. You really copped it," Arizona chuckled.

"Yeah. My dad was so angry I thought he was going to fly out here just to whoop me," Sofia laughed. "Don't tell my mama I was laughing about it. She would ground me for longer than my life expectancy."

"My lips are sealed," Arizona promised.

"Thanks," Sofia smiled.

"You really thought your plan was going to work?"

"Mmmhmm," Sofia nodded, "I didn't even plan for it to not work. Naomi tried to talk me out of it but I was too stubborn to listen to her."

"How many students at my school know of your plan," Arizona asked, shocked at this new information.

"Umm, Naomi, Abbi, Georgia and Harry, possibly a couple of others who were sitting at the table with me but they're my friends, they won't tell anyone," Sofia confessed, worried about the blonde's reaction.

Arizona's mouth gaped open. She felt slightly embarrassed that some of her students knew about this now.

"Um they uh, think it was dumb of me to do it. Everyone said it wasn't going to work and that I'm insane if it makes you feel better. They don't think there's anything between you and Callie," Sofia quickly said, filling the silence.

"Right," Arizona nodded, "so I can show my face around school without people being weird."

"Oh yeah! They think I'm crazy and they feel sorry for you that I did what I did," Sofia admitted.

Arizona paused. She knew that this situation wasn't ideal for herself or Callie but she hadn't really thought about the implications for Sofia.

"Are you okay," Arizona asked carefully.

Sofia was stunned by the question from her principal. Every time this subject had been broached, it was by people who were telling how bad it was and how she had made a terrible mistake.

"I mean, I'm embarrassed by it all now. I was worried that you wouldn't forgive me and that things would be awkward. I didn't want you to hate me," Sofia admitted.

"I could never hate you, Sofia," Arizona said sincerely, tilting her head to side slightly.

Sofia had never believed a statement more than this one. For some reason Sofia had always trusted Arizona. It had been from the moment they had met. There was just something about the blonde that comforted her. Sofia could never quite put her finger on what it was.

"I think that's the most personal you've ever let us get," Sofia joked.

"I think you needed to hear it today. You're a kid Sofia, you're going to make mistakes. Big ones. Just because you make mistakes doesn't mean you don't have people on your side though," Arizona smiled.

"Thanks Dr Robbins. For everything," Sofia smiled before they got back to work.

Callie stared at the bright screen in front of her. She had been opening and closing one contact in her phone over and over for the last week. Every time she went to click on the number, she managed to convince herself not to. Arizona had said to call to organise work experience. She had a light week next week and was finally able to come good on her offer. Sofia had complicated things though. After her tutoring session she had assured her mother that the blonde was fine. Callie was still unsure though.

"You're doing that thing again," Alex said, startling Callie when he spoke.

"What thing," Callie asking, looking up from her phone.

"Staring at a thing for a long time and zoning out," Alex told her as he tried to see what she was doing.

"I am not," Callie snapped, putting her phone in her pocket.

"You are! Just call her!"

"I can't now! Sofia went and ruined that," Callie admitted.

"So you do have the hots for her principal!"
"What? No, I didn't say that," Callie back tracked.

"It was implied," Alex smirked, "squirt is going to be ecstatic."

"No she isn't because you are going to keep your trap shut and nothing is going to happen with Arizona."

"I'm on Sofia's side. You are being stupid," Alex said as he picked up another patient chart. "I don't get why you won't give yourself a chance at being happy," he said before walking away.

Callie chuckled at Alex's parting words. Happy. If only he knew.

With one final deep breath, Callie hit the number and held the phone up to ear. Her heart beat louder than the sound of the phone ringing.
