Chapter 10

Arizona had been trying to read the latest report given to her for over 30 minutes. Every time she tried to concentrate her mind took her to the stunning brunette she had been seeing. It didn't matter how much time they spent together, it was never enough. Not that they had been able to spend much time together. Between Callie's work schedule and trying to find time when Sofia wasn't around, there didn't leave them a lot of options. Maybe Arizona could convince Callie to go away for a weekend, pretend to be going to a work conference.

"Hey beautiful."

Snapping her head up, Arizona found the object of her affections. It brought a smile to her face.

"Calliope! What are you doing here?"

"I had some time between surgeries so I thought I would bring you lunch. Repay you from when you surprised me with lunch," Callie smiled, entering the blonde's office.

"That's so sweet, thank you. Come and sit down," Arizona smiled, getting up to join the brunette at the table in her room.

"I also have some selfish reasons. I missed you," Callie admitted as she sat down next to the blonde.

"I miss you too. Come here."

Arizona and Callie both leaned in, their lips joining in a sweet kiss. As they kissed, Arizona brought her hand up to cup Callie's face. They both wiggled forward, their lips parting to let the other's tongue enter. Arizona let out a soft moan, which brought of them back into the moment.

"We should probably stop," Callie whispered, "wouldn't want a student or anything to walk in on us."

"That would be quite a scandal," Arizona smiled. "So, tell me about your day."

"You really wanna hear about my boring surgeries?"

"Oh, they are definitely not boring and yes I do. Why wouldn't I want to?"

"My last partner never really cared about my surgeries. Even though they were also a surgeon."

"Well, I want to hear about your day, regardless of how boring it may be. I want you to tell me everything."

Arizona's words almost made Callie cry. Never before had anyone shown her so much interest. It had been a long time since she had someone to confide in. It had been a long time since she even felt comfortable confiding in someone who was a blood relative. She felt the butterflies in her stomach start to flutter again. They seemed to go off whenever she was in Arizona's presence. She knew deep down that she was going to fall hard for the blonde and there was no way she could stop it.

Sofia and Naomi were standing at Sofia's locker talking about how boring their maths lesson had been. Their teacher was definitely from the stone age and they were sure that he could possibly drop dead in front of them. His classes were so boring that both Sofia and Naomi could study for other subjects at the back and he never knew.

"One of these days he's going to actually get glasses that help him see and we are going to fall behind in all our other subjects," Naomi laughed. "Can't you talk to Robbins and get us a new maths teacher?"

"That's not how it works," Sofia giggled, "she helps me with med school stuff and then shuts me down when I talk about personal things."

"Speaking of personal things, isn't that Callie talking to Robbins?"

Sofia quickly turned her head to where Naomi was pointing, not believing what her best friend was telling her. What she saw was that Naomi was telling the truth. There was her mother talking to Robbins, not talking, they were both laughing at something and they seemed happy. She unintentionally slammed her locker shut and started walking towards the pair. She wasn't sure why she walking towards them but she knew she was no longer in control of her legs.

"Sof? Sof, where are you going," Naomi called out to a distracted Sofia.

"Mama? What are you doing here," Sofia called out to her mother who was talking to Arizona near her office. Sofia was confused. She wasn't sure why Callie was at school. She hadn't mentioned anything to her and Sofia didn't think there was anything coming up soon.

"Hey Mija," Callie smiled. It was a smile so big Sofia had never seen her mother so happy. "I was just talking to Dr Robbins here about possibly giving some lectures to the seniors and some more work experience."

"Uh, yeah," Arizona smiled, trying to catch up to Callie's lie. "We're very lucky that your mum is happy to volunteer for us."

"I'm just grateful for the opportunity." There was a pause as both women smiled at each other.

"You're being weird," Sofia said as she watched both of them. She wasn't sure what was going on but before she could say anything else, the bell went meaning she had to get to class.

"Have a great day Sof, I'll see you at home, yeah?" Callie informed Sofia.

"See you at home," Sofia said as slowly backed away from the two adults.

"Nice cover," Arizona smiled, "now you actually have to come and give lectures you know."

"An excuse to be around you? What will I do," Callie joked before leaving.

Walking into the kitchen, Callie plunked the bags groceries down on the counter. She had spent the last 30 minutes shopping for the ingredients needed to make Sofia's favourite dinner. For the last few weeks the pair had been in a groove. Both of them had been happy and she had never felt closer with her daughter. In fact, they had barely fought and Callie thought that was something they should celebrate.

"Hey Nena," Callie smiled as Sofia walked into the kitchen. "I figured tonight we could cook that seafood pasta that you love and then spend all night trying to put ourselves into a sugar coma, what do you think?"

Looking up, Callie saw that her idea was one that wasn't going to happen tonight. The look on her daughter's face told her that she did not have good news for her.

"Mama usually I would be so excited for this but I was hoping you'd let me go to Naomi's tonight? We have to present our case studies next week and we thought we could spend all weekend getting it perfect and practicing. Can we do this next week? School is just crazy at the moment. I'm really sorry."

Callie relaxed her whole body and put her arms around her daughter, bringing her in for a hug. How could she be disappointed when her daughter was blowing her off to study. Is this how Sofia felt whenever Callie had cancelled due to work?

"Oh Mija, of course we can do this next week. Do you need me to drop you off at Naomi's or are they going to pick you up?"

"Thanks Mama. I love you. They are already on their way to get me. I promise to make it up to you next time!"

"Oh sweetie, there is absolutely no reason to make it up," Callie smiled. Go pack your stuff and I'll make sure there are churros here for you on Sunday when you get back."

Once the car containing her daughter and friends had disappeared, Callie got out her phone and quickly hit the name of the blonde who had taken up residence in her dreams.

"Hey so I've been ditched for the weekend and I was thinking, if you have nothing planned we could have the whole weekend to ourselves because I miss you. I know I only saw you the other day but I still miss you. Just come over whenever you want," Callie smiled as the blonde confirmed she would indeed be coming over.

"Hey," Callie smiled as she opened the door to Arizona. Arizona didn't reply, she smiled before hungrily kissing Callie as the entered the house.

"I missed you too," Arizona confirmed as she dropped her bag on the floor, leading Callie up the stairs to the brunette's bedroom.

As the made their way up the stairs and into the bedroom, clothes were shed. There was a hunger and neediness that both of them felt. This was the first quality time they had spent together in over a week. Arizona knew that she had agreed to that but now she wasn't sure how long she could keep it a secret. Only being able to see Callie when no one was around. She wanted to take her out of dates and cuddle up on the couch and watch movies every weekend.

"Hey, you okay," Callie whispered as she kissed down the blonde's neck.

"Yeah, sorry. I was just thinking about something at work but I promise I'm all yours now."

"You wanna talk about it," Callie asked, looking into blue eyes.

"It's nothing, besides, I don't want to talk right now," Arizona husked before kissing red lips once more.

The blonde giggled as Callie threw her on the bed. The both smiled as Callie straddled Arizona's lap, leant down and captured her lips in a heated kiss. As they moved up the bed, they helped shed each other of whatever clothes they had left on. Arizona's hands worked their way up and down Callie's back, running over her plump ass as they continued to make out. Callie gently moved her lips down Arizona's jaw and neck, placing sloppy kisses on her collarbones.

"You are so hot," Arizona whispered, her head arching back as Callie took a nipple into her mouth and started sucking.

"Mmmm, you're one to talk," Callie said back, looking up at Arizona as she shimmied down the creamy body.

"I thought I said I didn't want to talk," Arizona husked back.

"How about screaming? Is that on the cards," Callie smirked as she ran her tongue down Arizona's hips, taking her clit in her mouth.

"I think I manage that," Arizona moaned.

They had been cuddled up in bed all night, switching between sleeping and pleasuring each other. Both of them had lost count of how many orgasms they'd given each other. Callie was lying in Arizona's arms, placing lazy kisses on any piece skin of skin she could reach. Entwining their fingers together, Callie pulled Arizona's hand towards her and kissed her hand, down her arm.

"What's this from," Callie asked softly, tracing the small scar she found on Arizona's wrist with her tongue.

"Mmm," Arizona moaned, opening her eyes. "Oh um, I had to have surgery on my arm a long time ago."

"What happened?"

"I was in an accident," Arizona said hesitantly.

Callie propped herself up on her elbows, lying on her stomach and gazing into Arizona's eyes. She could see the blonde was thinking. There was more to this story but Callie didn't want to push. She wanted to earn Arizona's trust and she would over time.

"I was hit by a drunk driver," Arizona continued after a long pause.

"Arizona, you don't. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"I know," Arizona smiled, "and usually I don't but there's something about you that makes me want to tell you everything about me. I was on my way to work. I'd been paged in at like 4am in the morning. I don't remember the actual accident, but my arm got caught between the dash and my door. After the first surgery I didn't have much feeling in my hand, so they did nerve grafts and I did all the PT in the world but after a year I just didn't have control over my hand like I had before. No one would touch me, and they wouldn't sign me off for surgery."

Callie watched the emotions flood Arizona's eyes. She watched as the blonde looked anywhere but at her, knowing that their eye contact would unleash the tears Arizona was holding back.

"That's why you became a teacher?"

"Yeah well I had to come up with a backup plan. I loved working with kids, and I enjoyed teaching interns and residents, so it seemed like a natural move. I went back to school, got my masters and then I was really lucky that one of my dad's old marine buddy's wife was retiring so they put in a good word and I got a teaching job here," Arizona smiled. "I worked my butt off and it got me to where I am today."

"So that's why your butt is so cute," Callie joked.

"Shut up. I'm trying to pour my heart out to you right now," Arizona chuckled, secretly glad that Callie was making her laugh because she didn't want to cry.

"I'm not even sorry. You know how I feel about dat ass," Callie smiled again, quickly planting a kiss on Arizona's mouth. "Do you miss it? Being a surgeon?"

Arizona paused for a moment. If she was honest, she did miss it, a lot. She missed the fast-paced, high stakes feeling of being in an OR and knowing every move counted. She didn't miss losing patients though. Being a principal meant she was able to change children's lives with less risk of them dying.

"Yes and no. I miss that feeling of holding a scalpel and cutting. That's so horrible to say but I miss that."

"It's not horrible. I get it," Callie said softly, drawing soft patterns up Arizona's arm.

"I know you do," Arizona said softly. "I feel like you just get me. That's so cheesy but yeah."

"I feel the exact same way," Callie admitted, lovingly looking into Arizona's eyes. "I feel safe with you. Like no matter what, you won't judge me."

"Mmmm, they'll be some judging," Arizona joked as Callie kissed her.

"Shut up," Callie husked as she lay on top of Arizona.

"I just told you something incredibly personal. It's only fair you do the same thing," Arizona whispered, breaking their kiss.

"What do you want to know?"

"Tell me about Sofia and her dad," Arizona asked.

Taking a deep breath, Callie closed her eyes and rolled off Arizona, lying to face the blonde.

"I was in med school. I'd known Mark since out freshman year, we met at his frat house. We got along so well, he was a great friend, not a great study buddy but he was always up for a great time. Eventually we started sleeping together when we weren't involved with anyone. I was in my senior year when I found out I was pregnant with Sofia I was terrified but then so excited. I had always wanted to be a mum and even though the timing was terrible I knew I was going to keep her. I told Mark and gave him an out but he didn't really have a family so he committed. He even proposed but we both just laughed and realised that we were only friends."

Arizona smiled as she listened to Callie tell her the story. She took her hand that wasn't propping her head up and started drawing invisible shapes up Callie's arm.

"I managed to get through my exams somehow. I finished my last biology exam with contractions and then went straight to the hospital. My parents didn't support me because of the whole liking girls thing but when Mark called them to tell them I was in labour, my dad flew up straight away. When they put her in my arms, I fell in love straight away. Mark was annoyed because she looked exactly like me. Once my dad saw her and held her, he was like a different man. She's had him wrapped her little finger since day 1. I ended up doing my internship and residency in Miami so my parents could help out with Sofia. Mark would fly down and see her whenever he could and we would fly to Seattle to see him. Once I finished residency, I took a fellowship in Seattle so Mark and Sofia could spend more time together."

"That's why she had to call your dad and tell her about almost getting suspended," Arizona asked.

"Yep. When we lived with them, they were inseparable. I was so busy with work that they basically raised her for the first few years of her life."

"You've given her the best possible life, Calliope. I mean, you raised a beautiful daughter and became a kick ass surgeon. You're amazing."

"We're amazing," Callie smiled as she started to kiss the blonde again.

"Hey, what's on your mind? Is this about work again," Callie asked Arizona. The blonde still seemed distracted, like she was thinking about something else again.

"When are you going to tell her about us? It's been over a month Calliope. I really love what we're doing but I'd love to be able to come over whenever and not sneak around. I want to be able to take you out on dates whenever I want. Not wait until you've managed to escape your daughter!"

"You said it was hot!"

"And it was, at the start, but now it just seems like you're hiding me. Like you're ashamed to be with me."

"I'm not, I promise."

"Then what it is?"

Callie sighed. She knew that was going to come up sooner rather than later. Arizona had been so patient with her. So accommodating of all her requests and secret keeping from everyone.

"I've introduced a lot of partners to Sofia in the past and most of them have turned out horribly. I just. I don't want this to be another one of those. I don't want to tell her that I'm dating someone and then it be over in like a week. Bringing my daughter into this changes things. I don't want you to realise that you don't want her as part of your life because she's part of the package. Also, she never likes anyone I date and I don't want that to ruin this."

Arizona smiled as Callie rambled on and on. Some of it didn't make much sense to Arizona but she knew that Callie would have her reasons for saying some of the things, forgetting who Arizona was and how they met.

"Calliope! I know Sofia is part of the package, that doesn't scare me off. That doesn't change anything. I'm at an age now where I'm not dating just for fun. I like Sofia and I really like you."

Releasing the breath she didn't realise she had been holding, Callie smiled. She was unsure about why she had all these fears. It wasn't like Arizona didn't know Sofia and vice versa. Sofia had probably spent more time with Arizona than Callie had at this stage. She also knew that Sofia looked up to Arizona and respected her.

"You're right, I'm sorry. I'll tell her. I'll tell her when she gets home."

"Hey, there is no need to apologise. It's okay, I get it. Well, now I do," Arizona chuckled.

"I really like you too," Callie smiled. "And I'm definitely not ashamed of you."

"Good to know," Arizona smiled, kissing the back of Callie's hand.

"You're so cute when you're insecure."

"Am not," Arizona pouted.

"So cute," Callie mumbled before kissing the pout right of Arizona's face.

Callie was busy getting dinner ready when she felt two arms wrap around her waist. The two lovers had spent all weekend getting to know each other. They had spoken about everything from past relationships to family. Callie was a tiny bit jealous of the fact the Arizona's family had so willingly accepted her sexuality and she fought hers for years. It had taken Sofia being born for her parents to finally let Callie back in.

"I should go home. My plants will be wondering where I am," Arizona joked in Callie's ear.

"I'm sure they are fine without you. I don't want you to go," Callie whined in response.

"Mmmm I don't want to go but I think we need tell Sofia instead of her just busting us."

Callie turned around and took the blonde in her arms. She kissed her with fervent need.

"I know you're right and I hate that."

"I can't help that I'm awesome," Arizona smiled as they kissed again.

"You're not wearing any pants," Callie husked.

Arizona just shook her head in response.

"That's so hot," Callie smiled as they continued kissing.

Before they knew what was happening, Callie lifted Arizona up and sat her on the kitchen counter. Arizona parted her legs to allow Callie to move closer to her. Even though they had spent all weekend in bed naked, neither woman could get enough of the other. Callie had thought she had felt strongly about past partners, but her short time with Arizona had proven that they were only infatuations, flings even. Nothing compared to what she was currently feeling with Arizona. She hoped this wasn't some sort of honeymoon phase for them. She knew deep down that these were true feelings.

Arizona smiled as she felt Callie unbutton her shirt. She loved the feeling of the Latina's hands on her skin. It was warm and electric, it sent the butterflies in her stomach crazy. They both moaned as Callie's hands made their way under Arizona's bra. Creamy hands tangled in dark hair, pulling Callie impossibly closer.

"Mama, I'm home," Sofia called out as she walked into the kitchen. What she saw was definitely not what she had expected to see in her kitchen on a Sunday afternoon.

"Oh my god," all three of them said. Callie helped Arizona down off the bench, standing in front of her to block her daughter's view.

Sofia had turned around as quickly as she could, still copping an eye full of things she didn't want to see. While it was not optimal to have walked in on this, she still couldn't wipe the smile off her face.

"I um, I'll go take my things upstairs," Sofia said. "Give you guys a chance to get to respectable," she joked before leaving the room.

Arizona laughed as she put her head on Callie's shoulder from behind.

"I guess she knows now," Callie chuckled.

"Yes she does," Arizona confirmed, finally coming out from behind her lover. "Think she's upstairs doing some kind of victory dance?"

"Nah, we'd hear her stomping around. She's going to gloat and say I told you so or something."

"It's good she knows now. I hated only being able to see you when Sofia wasn't around."

"Mmm, good point," Callie whispered before kissing Arizona again. "Now you can come over and stay the night whenever we want."

"Oh really," Arizona smiled as they kissed. "As much as I love this, I definitely need to go and put some pants on before she comes back down to find me even more naked."

Sofia sat on her bed trying to work out how long she needed to give the couple before it was safe to go downstairs. She heard the door to her mother's bedroom close and figured it had to be Robbins getting dressed. The footsteps hadn't sounded like Callie. Giving herself a few moments, she took a deep breath and made her way downstairs. She thought carefully about what she was going to say. She didn't want to make either of them angry.

"So," Sofia started talking as she entered the kitchen to find Callie cooking, "how long has this been going on for?"

"Umm," Callie said tentatively, "a month, I guess."

"Were you going to tell me?"

"Of course Mija, I just didn't know how and we wanted to wait. Make sure there was something to tell you."

"IS there something to tell?"

"Yeah," Callie beamed at her daughter, "I think there is."

"Okay," Sofia smiled, "As long as you're happy, I'm happy."

"I'm really happy Sofia. I don't think I've been this happy since you were born."

Sofia looked at the smile on her mother's face. She hadn't seen her smile this big in a while. Or ever. She could even see the twinkle in her eye starting to come back. It was small but it was there. Maybe Arizona was the one. The one to complete their family.
