TW/ MENTAL ILLNESS NOT BEING PORTRAYED 100% ACCURATELY AND COERCED SUICIDE ATTEMPT

Balloons, banners, streamers, and flyers littered almost every square inch of the halls of Hexside. It was that wonderful time of year again, the big dance known as 'Grom,' where one lucky witch would be crowned queen and tasked with facing and defeating Grometheus. Should they fail, the residents of the Demon Realm will be forever haunted and plagued by their worst fears. While the thought was terrifying, it was overshadowed for many by the idea of asking their sweetheart to the dance and spending a magical night with them, although many were anxious and were afraid of asking their crushes out, fearing they would be rejected.

Amity was one such witch.

The greenette was rummaging around her locker for the books she would need for her next two classes, trying to decide on when the best time to ask Luz to the dance would be. Obviously sooner rather than later would be best, especially since you never knew who else may try asking her (despite being friends with him, Amity felt like Kevin would ask Luz to the dance to purposely spite her). Was that mean to think? Yeah probably, but c'mon...this was Kevin she was talking about! Messing with people, namely her and Boscha, was his favorite thing to do! There was no telling how far he would go to mess with her, and that honestly scared her more than anything else: the fact he had no filter or shame.

"Amity," a voice called out to her as she grabbed her final book from her locker. Pulling away and watching as the monstrous mouth closed, she turned to see Boscha approaching her. "Have you seen dumbass anywhere?"

"Kevin? No. Have you seen Luz?" Amity asked, and the pinkette shook her head. "Weird. I wonder where they could be?"

"Knowing the dumbass he's getting into trouble. And, knowing Luz, she's probably involved somehow," Boscha said. Amity went to say something and argue, wanting to say that Luz would never do such a thing, but she stopped herself, reminding herself that yes, Luz would 100% do something stupid if Kevin was involved. "Why are you looking for her anyway? Gonna ask her to Grom?"

"Trying to work up the courage to, yes," Amity nodded, eyes drifting downwards to Boscha's hand that were stuffed into the pockets of her Grudgby jacket. She smiled upon seeing a letter Boscha was clearly trying to hide. "Is that why you're looking for Kevin?" Amity asked with a teasing smile, causing the pinkette to blush.

"It's none of your business," she grunted, causing Amity to laugh.

Their conversation was interrupted by a loud and sudden boom that rocked the entire school to its very core, startling and frightening most of the students. A cloud of smoke started emitting from down one of the hallways, and the two turned to watch as Kevin and Luz rounded and dashed down the hall towards them.

"The fuck did you two do?" Boscha asked, saying exactly what was on Amity's mind.

"We'll tell you after we find a hiding spot," Kevin said as he looked around for a place to hide. His eyes fell on the monster lockers and he approached one before jamming his finger into its giant singular eye, causing the locker to open its mouth and roar in pain. "In ya go!" Kevin said as he picked up Luz and placed her inside. He approached the locker to the immediate right and did the same thing, the new locker roaring in pain and opening its mouth wide enough for Kevin to slip inside. "We were never here," he said before forcing the mouth closed.

Mere seconds after doing so, the Abomination teacher came walking around the corner. He was covered in Abomination sludge while his own Abomination looked as if it had been hit with a rainbow spell. His eyes locked onto Boscha and Amity (students he knew he could trust) and stalked towards them, an aura of anger emitting off of him and even his monster.

"Have either of you seen Mr. Kevin and Ms. Noceda?" he asked, watching their eyes and movements for any sign of a lie. The two witches exchanged a glance before shaking their heads, causing the teacher to let out a growl. "Well when you do, tell them I want to see them immediately," he said before continuing down the hall in search of the two trouble-making humans.

"All right, he's gone," Amity said, causing Kevin and Luz to force open the mouths of the lockers before stepping out. "What did you two do this time?"

"Just a harmless prank," Luz said before she and Kevin started snickering.

"Why did you have to prank the Abomination teacher? He's my favorite one here!"

"It's his fault for failing us on our assignment! We created an Abomination just like he told us to!" Kevin argued.

"What dumbass thing did you add to your Abomination though?" Boscha asked, remembering the event Kevin had told her about that got him detention.

"...Okay so we may have added a pair of tits, which was my idea, I'll admit. But I think we only got in trouble because a certain someone was caught fondling them," Kevin said, using one hand to hide the fact he was pointing at Luz. The human girl gasped from being called out and blushed heavily.

"Can't you two go a day without doing something stupid?" Boscha asked.

"Stupid's in our DNA," Kevin said before he and Luz high-fived. Amity and Boscha shook their heads in disappointment. "So, Grom's tonight, huh? Should be a lot of fun."

"How do you know about Grom?" Amity asked while raising an eyebrow.

"Luz told me about all her adventures here in the Boiling Isles, including her fight with Grom. I know everything about it, like Grometheus the fear demon and how Bump picks a new 'queen' every year to fight it. If the queen loses, it escapes and will terrorize the whole realm. Sounds kind of cool actually; I'm hoping I get picked," Kevin said. "Which reminds me! Luz, wasn't there something you wanted to ask Amity?" Kevin asked, surprising the greenette and causing the human girl to splutter.

"Haha, I don't think now's the best time for that," Luz said with an awkward chuckle.

"Yeah well, there's no time like the present," he said while placing his hand on her back and pushing her closer to Amity. He stared at Boscha, tilting his head and motioning towards Amity. "Isn't that right, Boscha?" he asked, and she got the message.

"For once the idiot's right. Amity, wasn't there something you wanted to ask Luz?" Boscha said as she pushed Amity forward, causing the greenette to stumble as she hadn't expected it. She would've fallen to the ground had Luz not caught her, their faces inches apart as they stared into each other's eyes. They both blushed heavily, and the human girl helped the witch back to her feet.

"I am going to kill both of—" Amity started to growl, turning to glare at Boscha, only to see the girl had disappeared from behind her. "—you. Where did they go?"

"Have fun you two!" Kevin called out as he and Boscha walked further down the hall to give them some privacy. "Don't chicken out! If either of you try to run, we will chase you down!" he warned. Amity growled, tempted to throw a fireball or to run after the two of them, before the realization dawned on her that she and Luz were now alone. Perhaps sooner was better than later?

"Luz—"

"Amity I—"

The two started to say simultaneously before stopping to let the other go first.

"You can go—"

"You can go—"

They stopped, giggling. "You can go first, Amity," Luz said, much to the greenette's dismay.

"Are you sure? You can go first if you want, I'm sure what you have to say is much more important."

"No, no, I insist! What I have to ask can wait. What did you want to say?" Luz asked, causing Amity to sigh. She took a deep breath to calm herself and her racing heart.

"W-Well, w-we've known each other for a while now, a-and we've gotten really close. G-Grom is tonight, a-and I can't imagine going with anyone else but you," Amity murmured shyly, wringing her hands together and finding the floor much more interesting as she avoided Luz's gaze. "So, I was wondering if you would want to go, w-with me, I mean. If not it's fine! I understand, you might want to go with someone el—"

"Of course I want to go with you!" Luz shouted while getting right into Amity's face after getting over her initial shock. "I was getting ready to ask you the exact same thing!"

"Y-You were?" Amity asked, surprised, as her heart started to flutter.

"Yeah! I couldn't imagine going to Grom with anyone else but you! I had so much fun with you last year; why would I go with anyone else?" the human asked.

"C-Cool, that's um, that's great," Amity said with a smile. "How about we meet there? My parents are home and would kill me if they found out I was going with you, and the less I see of Hooty the better," Amity suggested. Luz nodded eagerly before leaning down and placing a gentle kiss on Amity's cheek.

"It's a date!" Luz said with a wink before running down the hall to get to her next class. She didn't notice as Amity touched the spot where she had kissed her, or the greenette's growing smile. The witch pumped a fist into the air and did a small, embarrassing victory dance, one Kevin happily recorded for any future blackmail.

"That was surprisingly a lot less painful to watch than I thought it would be," Kevin said as he looked towards Boscha, who wasn't paying attention to Amity but instead a note that was in her hands. "You okay?" he asked, causing her to sigh.

"Not really. I...have something to ask you, actually," she said, surprising him. "Here just, take this and read it!" she said, slapping the note against his chest. He took it without question, watching as her blush deepened. He raised an eyebrow before looking down and opening the note.

The note had countless words scratched off and erased, but some he could make out clearly. There was 'go with me or die', 'if you don't go with me you'll regret it', 'Fuck you! But not like that!' among others. In the middle sat a message, short and simple, that hadn't been altered or erased.

'Idiot Kevin, will you go to Grom with me?'

"Awww, you're asking me to Grom? How cute!" he cooed teasingly, causing her blush to darken and a growl to escape her throat. "What's wrong? Too shy to ask me vocally?"

"S-Shut up! I don't do well with emotions. They're a hard thing for me to handle."

"I mean, if we go into that broom closet right now, I can give you a much harder thing to handle," he joked. The joke got him Boscha's usual reaction: an eye roll of annoyance and a blush.

"Will you stop making stupid jokes for once? Look, if you don't want to go with me, that's fine. There's plenty of other guys and girls that I could ask that would kill to go with me," Boscha said, hoping the ego boost would help with the current embarrassment she was feeling. Kevin raised an eyebrow and looked behind her, watching as the other students were running and trying to find places to hide to avoid Boscha asking them. One boy even ended up jumping out one of the opened windows to escape. "I'm not going to force you. If you don't want to go with me, just say—"

"I'd love to go with you," Kevin said, stopping Boscha halfway through her rant.

"I—wait, you're being serious, right? This isn't some dumb joke or prank? You're not a clone, right?" she asked, poking his cheek just to make sure he was real.

"You know I'm not an asshole all the time. Just most of the time. But yes, I'm being serious. I'd love to be your date for the night!" he said with a smile, causing her to splutter and blush.

"You're not my date! You're my...acquaintance for the evening."

"You know what you get when you rearrange the words in 'acquaintance'? You get 'date'...and a bunch of random letters no one cares about."

"I think you're missing a 'd' there."

"And I think you're missing my 'd', but you don't see me pointing it out," Kevin joked, causing Boscha to groan in annoyance.

"I'm gonna walk away and avoid any more of your dumbass jokes. Just meet me here tonight. I'll see you then, and don't wear something stupid! I'll kill you if you do," she warned before walking away to head to class.

"I'll see you tonight, my beloved!" he called out to her, to further her embarrassment.

"Don't call me that, idiot!" she shouted back before rounding the corner, disappearing from his sight and leaving him to chuckle alone. He smiled to himself, a warm and fuzzy feeling in his chest from the interaction. He usually had them after talking to Boscha, but this time it was different. It was raw, more intense. He felt happy and excited for tonight.

"Kevin's got a date, Kevin's got a date," came the sing-song tone of Amity as she threw an arm over his shoulders. Or tried to, at least, as their size difference made it difficult and awkward to do so. "You two are going to look so cute together!"

"We're going to look even cuter when we get named Grom King and Queen. Bump should be announcing my name any second now."

"How do you know you'll get picked?" Amity asked the screeching

"Attention students! This year, I have the privilege to bestow our highest Grom honor to…" Bump started to say before letting out a loud and tired sigh. "Kevin the human, our Grom Queen."

Around the whole school there were sighs of relief as none of the other students had been chosen for the occasion. It was quickly followed by murmurs about the odds of a human getting picked for it, something that greatly surprised and confused Amity.

"How did you know Bump was going to pick you?"

"Let's just say I made him an offer he couldn't refuse," Kevin said with a smile

"So you're bribing him?"

"Bribing, blackmailing, why put labels on things? At the end of the day I'm Grom Q...Queen. Hmm, didn't think this fully through, but who cares? I fucking radiate queen energy. Grom won't know what hit it!"

"Just don't let Grom beat you and escape. We don't need a repeat of last time."

"You worry too much; everything will be fine! Queen Kevin is on the case!"

(Several hours later: The Owl House)

"Stupid, bloodly—gah! I hate ties!" Kevin exclaimed as he untied his seventh failed attempt at tying his tie. He scratched his head in aggravation; he had never been good with ties, usually it was someone else, like his ex Veronika, or Suit, or even Luz, who would help him out and tie it for him. Kevin didn't understand why he had difficulties with ties. Maybe it was because of some kind of deep-seated trauma he had when it came to things being tied around his neck?

But that was its own can of worms, one he would gladly keep sealed until the day he died, like most of the other trauma he had.

"Well, well, well, don't you look dashing!" an all too familiar, and highly annoying, voice said, causing Kevin to sigh in annoyance. He looked up, staring at piercing red eyes that stared back at him. This was one of his other personalities, playing with his mind, making Kevin see him in the mirror. The red-eyed personality; Taiko the psycho.

Kevin had DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), but many people still only know it by its very old, outdated (and insensitive), and original name, MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder). Originally it wasn't as bad as it was now; for example, before he couldn't see his personalities. But his condition had worsened to unimaginable extremes due to his travels through different dimensions, the new traumas he'd faced, and the experimental treatments he'd attempted to try and hopefully rid himself of this illness.

Some of his friends had tossed out the idea that maybe it wasn't DID, that maybe it was a ghost or demon possessing him and messing with his mind. Regardless, whatever the fuck it was, all Kevin knew is that he wanted this motherfucker out of his head.

"Leave me alone," Kevin growled, causing the mirrored him to smirk.

"C'mon, how long are you gonna keep up this little charade of yours? It's been so long; you know you're just itching to let loose," Taiko said with a menacing grin.

"I'm past that now, that was the old me. I'm better now, thanks to Luz," Kevin said, causing the other him to roll his red eyes.

"Once a monster, always a monster. You told me that once, remember? It was when you locked me away for the fifth time. You're not 'changed' or 'better' because of some stupid girl. You're suppressing your urges, your instincts," Taiko said before grinning. "Admit it; you're just like me."

"Svoloch! I'm nothing like you!"

"Keep telling yourself that. It doesn't change the fact that you're a monster, a freak. And once the others find out who, or what, you truly are, they'll abandon you like everyone else has. You'll have no one left and you'll be alone, like you always have been."

"That's not true! Boscha and Amity might leave me, but Luz has promised to always stick by my side! She won't abandon me!" Kevin argued, gripping the edge of the sink, his fingers started leaving dents in the marble.

"Ah yes, the little runt who's ruining you, keeping you from your true potential. Don't worry; once I take control, and you know I will, she'll no longer hold you back."

"You're not laying a finger on her. I'd kill myself before you could try!"

"It's going to be so much fun when I take control and force you to watch as the life slowly drains from her eyes, caused by your hand no less!" Taiko exclaimed before letting out a horrid and haunting laugh.

Kevin growled before cocking back his fist and smashing it into the mirror, shattering the glass to hundreds of pieces as they fell into the sink or onto the ground. Short, rapid breaths escaped him out of anger before he closed his eyes, taking a long and slow breath before exhaling in order to calm himself down. Taiko always did this, trying to make him mad. Because when he gets mad, he loses control, and when he loses control, Taiko takes over.

"Ow! What the hoot?!" a voice shouted from outside, causing the human boy to grimace.

"Sorry Hooty," Kevin called out before checking his hand, watching as crimson droplets escaped from his new and fresh cuts before falling into the sink. He started to clean his wounds before cursing under his breath as someone knocked at the door.

"Kevin? Can I come in?" Luz asked, and Kevin pinched the bridge of his nose. Now wasn't the best time.

"Yeah, yeah you can come in," he said, not turning to the door as its hinges squeaked as it opened. Luz appeared in the doorway, wearing nothing but black dress pants and a white undershirt. She was supposed to be getting ready with the help of Kevin's clones, but she must've stopped upon hearing the broken glass.

"Are you okay?" she asked, noticing the broken mirror, her eyes widening upon seeing the blood falling from his hands. She quickly grabbed a hand towel before closing the distance between them and pressing it over the cuts in order to stop the bleeding. "What happened?"

"Nothing, nothing. Just uh, slipped?" he lied, poorly, causing the human girl to sigh. She could read him like a book and knew he was lying. "Tell Eda I'll pay for it."

"Was it him again?" she asked, causing Kevin to let out a small grunt. He had to restrain himself from backing away, like he was prone to do when someone tried to help him, or when they asked questions about stuff he didn't want to talk about.

"I—Look, it's fine, I'm fine," he said, and received a skeptical look in return. "I promise I'm fine! I'm used to him by now; you have nothing to worry about, luv."

"You telling me not to worry makes me worry more," she said, removing the towel and noticing the blood had stopped. "You know I care about you, right? You're not alone; I'm here for you. You can talk to me about anything."

"I-I appreciate that, hon, really I do. But I'm fine; I'm Kevin, after all, remember? I'm always fine!" he said with a fake grin, one she saw straight through. But that was fine; she wouldn't force him to talk if he didn't want to. Instead, she would let actions express how she felt, and wrapped her arms tight around him, surprising him for a second. He relaxed into the embrace before returning it, tighter. It was an innocent embrace, but one that meant the world to the boy, and he would cherish it.

'I swear, I'll keep you safe, no matter the cost,' he thought to himself, promising to keep Luz safe. And if there was one thing Kevin knew, it was how to keep his promises.

(Several more hours later: Hexside)

The moon and stars illuminated the night sky as students decked out in fancy clothing swarmed Hexside like a flock of bats. Eager and excited chatter filled the air as they piled through the doors and straight into the gymnasium, where they socialized with their friends and fellow couples or danced to the upbeat music that was playing until the more slower paced songs would begin to play.

Unlike their fellow classmates who were heading inside to start their dance-filled nights, Amity and Boscha were waiting outside for their dates (or in Boscha's case, 'acquaintance') to arrive. They figured waiting outside was the best option, as it would be easier to find Kevin and Luz when there weren't 100 to 200 other students in their way.

Boscha was wearing a lilac, empire-style dress, which fit her well and ended just above her knees. Bangs framed her face nicely as she wore her hair down, shorter than usual as she had trimmed it earlier in the day, and dark purple eyeshadow complemented her eyes brilliantly. Amity wore a mint green ball gown which reached her ankles. Like Boscha, she too was wearing her hair down, and wore mint green eyeshadow.

"Where are they?" Boscha growled impatiently, marching back and forth to try and take her mind off of squirming stomach or sweaty palms. Her nerves were truly getting the best of her tonight.

"Still not here, just like the last time you asked me, and the time before that, and the time before that," Amity answered boredly, tired from Boscha's constant asking. The two had only arrived roughly 15, maybe 20 minutes ago, and already the pinkette had asked the same question about six times.

"You don't think they forgot, do you? Or that he stood me up?"

"Boscha, Kevin is a lot of bad things. Like, a lot a lot, like you could fill a whole book about negative adjectives you could use to describe him, and maybe even a sequel to said book. But I know for a fact he isn't that much of a scumbag."

"Implying that I am, to some extent, a scumbag? Wow, thanks for the words of encouragement Blight," a voice said sarcastically from the side, causing both girls to jump. They turned, watching as their dates (acquaintance!) walked up. Kevin looked a bit annoyed from Amity's comment, causing the greenette to let out an awkward chuckle. Luz was next to him, looking stunned.

The duo were wearing suits, with Kevin in a black tux with white undershirt and blood red tie. Luz wore a much more colorful and nontraditional colored outfit; she wore a maroon tux with pink undershirt and a little black bowtie to complete the look.

"Eheh, sorry about that Kevin. No hard feelings?" she asked weakly.

"Don't try to kill me when I get my revenge for that little stunt you pulled a few days ago, and yeah, no hard feelings," he said before patting his stunned friend on the back, shocking her back into reality. She got the message before approaching her date for the night.

"You look beautiful, Amity. Like a princess," Luz said with a smile, cheeks turning a rosy color from Amity's appearance. The greenette blushed from the complement and from Luz's own appearance.

"T-Thank you Luz, y-you look nice too. I-I guess that makes you my prince for the night," Amity said.

"Well then if that's the case, it's an honor to be your date for the evening, princess Amity," Luz said, grasping one of Amity's hands and leaning down before kissing the back of it. She gave the greenette a suave, charming smile, making the witch's heart thud harder in her chest and her knees tremble from the sudden act.

"My god, that was so gay. I've taught her well, I'm so proud," Kevin said, wiping away a fake tear. Movement out of the corner of his eyes caught his attention, and he turned to watch Boscha approaching him.

"So how do I look?"

"Krasivaya," Kevin said without thinking, and it took a few seconds to finally process what he had just blurted out. Once he did, his eyes widened and he blushed in embarrassment, which only worsened when Boscha cocked her head to the side, confused.

"What was that?"

"N-Nothing! I-Sometimes I kinda default to a different human language, no big deal," he explained. Of all the times for his brain to short-circuit, now wasn't the best time.

"Oh. Well, what does it mean?"

"It's, uh, it's Russian. It means 'beautiful,'" he answered, embarrassed. Boscha's eyes widened at that, and she blushed while pushing a strand of hair back behind her ear.

"O-Oh! W-Well, thanks. You look beautiful too," Boscha said before flinching at her wording. "Nice! I-I meant nice, not beautiful and—oh titan strike me down," she groaned out of embarrassment. Kevin found himself smiling at her flustered state, chuckling even. She was so cute when embarrassed. She growled at his laughing before noticing something.

"You dyed your hair back to brown," Boscha observed, trying to hide the fact she was glad he was back to his natural look. As much as she liked the blue, brown hair looked better on him.

"My clones did that. They said blue clashes with red. Sometimes I regret giving them free will," he sighed. He thought blue would've been fine, but unfortunately everyone, especially his clones, was a critic.

"Well, I think you look better as a brunet. It looks good on you," Boscha admitted, causing both teens to blush.

"Please, when don't I look good?"

"Oh fuck off."

"I'd rather fuck on—mmphf," Kevin started to say before Amity covered his mouth with her hand, much to Boscha's relief.

"Thanks, Blight."

"Believe me, it was my pleasure," Amity said before removing her hand, glaring at the human boy, her eyes telling him to either behave or suffer the consequences. "Now that that's settled, shall we go in?"

"Actually, I need to talk to you real quick," Kevin said, eyeing the greenette. Luz nodded behind him.

"Yeah, and I need to talk to Boscha too," Luz said before grabbing the pinkette's wrist and leading her away, the three-eyed girl casting a questioning look back at Kevin and Amity as she was dragged away.

"Okay, now that we're alone, we gotta talk. It's time for the 'protective father threatening his daughter's date' talk," Kevin said, causing Amity to groan.

"Really? Are we really doing this right now?"

"Yes, but it's the Kevin version. I want funny business, hands where I can't see them, but if you break her heart, I swear to gods I'll break you. I'll turn 'break the Bat' into 'break the Blight' so fucking fast," Kevin threatened, causing Amity to gulp and nod in understanding. She, again, didn't understand the reference, but it wasn't hard to determine it was bad news. "Okay, now that you understand, did you clip your nails like I said?"

"Yes, but I still don't see the point. What does clipping my nails have to do with anything?" Amity asked, still confused after the seemingly weird and out of nowhere order of her clipping her nails.

"Trust me, if things go right, Luz will be thankful you did. Just like you'll be thankful I made her clip her nails."

"Yes but—wait, this has something to do with sex, doesn't it?" she asked, and took the fact he was trying hard to smile as an answer. "Kevin! Can you stop thinking about sex for once? You know being such an open pervert is very unattractive."

"You know what's unattractive? This attitude of yours right now. Trust me, it's one giant repellent."

"Repellent to what?" Amity asked. She watched, ever so unamused, as Kevin shook his hand and pointed it at his crotch, letting out a small hissing sound like a canister. "You do remember I'm a lesbian, right? Why would I care about that?"

"Riiiight, didn't really think this through. Hmm, oh wait!" he exclaimed before snapping his fingers, a clone appearing right next to him. But this wasn't an ordinary clone of his; this one looked identical to Luz. Like Kevin, the clone Luz mimicked his actions and sprayed her crotch with imaginary repellent.

"Was doing all that really necessary?"

"Yes, yes it was," Kevin and his clone spoke in unison before the clone Luz disappeared. "I'm just trying to help out and make you less...well, you, when it comes to this type of stuff. Elder gods know you can barely control yourself when she so much as looks at you. I'd pay good money to see how you'll react if your relationship blossoms into something more...adult."

"I appreciate the...weird concern, but trust me, I'm on top of things."

"That's funny, because you radiate bottom energy," Kevin said, trying to squeeze in one last joke before they went inside. The scowl he received in return made him smile.

"Oh yeah? Well you radiate—radiate, uh—just shut up and stop being annoying!" she exclaimed, causing him to let out a belly laugh.

"But being annoying is like, half of my charm!" he argued as they started walking back to Luz and Boscha. They watched as the human girl grabbed Boscha by the front of her dress and tugged her close with one hand, while her other hand clutched a paper with an icy glyph on it.

"If you hurt him so help me God I will shove an icicle through your third eye and watch you bleed out! Do you understand me?!" she shouted down at the pinkette, who nodded fearfully at the threat. Kevin smiled before turning to Amity, who looked concerned and slightly scared.

"I taught her that," Kevin said proudly, almost sounding like a father. "Hey girls? You guys ready to head in?" he asked, interrupting Luz before she could say anything else.

The human girl perked up, letting go of the pinkette and entering her 'nice and sweet' mode, as if she hadn't just threatened to snuff out the three-eyed girl's life if she hurt Kevin in any way.

"Yup! Let's head inside, I've been looking forward to this all week!" Luz said, leaving Boscha before joining Amity. She offered the greenette her arm, which the witch took before happily wrapping her arms around it. They headed inside just as Kevin and Boscha did the same.

"She scares me. The fuck did you do to her?" Boscha asked as they walked towards the entrance.

"Just taught her a thing or two. Pressure points, right way to choke someone—not for pleasure, obviously—how to hotwire a car. You know, normal teenager stuff," Kevin said, receiving a wild and bewildered look from Boscha.

They entered the gymnasium right behind Luz and Amity, and the four looked around the massive room filled with their fellow schoolmates. Banners, streamers, and balloons littered the sky as loud and upbeat music played for the students. A disco ball hung from the middle of the ceiling, but it wasn't any ordinary crystal ball; it was a Snaggleback, which Bump had hired and bejeweled its shell since actual disco balls were much more expensive and much harder to come by.

"Well, it's a lot better than human prom, I'll say that much," Kevin said as he looked around the room. His eyes landed upon a black and shadowy figure with large, blue horns protruding from his head. "Looking good, Nyroc!" Kevin called out to the boy, who turned from his date, Elieen, to glare and growl at the human boy.

Nyroc was a student in the same grade as them who was in the Oracle, Beast Keeping, Abomination, and Illusions tracks. Nyroc usually used sign language to speak to others, and only actually spoke to a select few he was friends with and felt comfortable around. Nyroc wore a red and spiky collar around his neck, the top of his head had been dyed white, his usual white eyes had been changed to light blue thanks to contacts, and the back of his suit came equipped with a long and spiky tail.

"Why is Nyroc dressed as a Darkrai?" Luz asked with a quirked eyebrow.

"He lost a bet. It was either that or he had to wear a maid outfit. He chose Darkrai instead," Kevin answered, trying not to laugh at the mouth full that Nyroc was signing to him. The boy had quite the potty mouth. Er, potty hands?

"What is your obsession with maid outfits?" Boscha asked, remembering their time in the locker room when he gave her an alternative option to him playing with her ears.

"Maid outfits are hot," Luz said, and Kevin nodded in agreement. Amity flushed pink, making a mental note for future use.

"Kevin!" a voice suddenly shouted excitedly amongst the crowd, followed by the clopping of hooves on the floor. The boy felt something slam into his back, nearly knocking him off balance as two arms wrapped around him.

"Fae!" he exclaimed, just as excited, taking his arm back from Boscha before wrapping it around the faun girl in his arms. He did a quick spin, causing Fae to giggle and Boscha to glare in sudden jealousy.

Fae was a faun girl, and got all of her deer-like features from her father, from her two hooves and brown fur to her large antlers on the top of her head. She had bright green eyes and blonde hair with some light green streaks. She wore a dress similar to Boscha's, though hers was forest green and was longer, reaching the middle of her calf. She and Kevin had met during their botany class and had been introduced to one another thanks to Willow. Like most people who met Kevin, they had clicked almost instantly over their love of animals.

"How are you? How's the advice I gave you? Did you move your fingers like how I taught you?" Kevin asked while setting the girl down.

"I did, and they worked wonderfully! She made the most beautiful sounds!" Fae exclaimed happily.

"Oh that's cool. What kind of instrument do you play?" Amity asked. She knew Fae and Skara would often hangout and have little jam sessions together. While she didn't know what instrument Fae played, she assumed the faun girl meant an instrument when she said 'she,' as a lot of musicians did so. But the giggle she received from the girl confused her.

"I'm not talking about an instrument," Fae said with a wink, further confusing Amity and causing Luz to flush. "Skara!" The faun girl suddenly exclaimed upon seeing her date for the evening before scampering off to tackle her into a hug.

"What did she mean by that?" Amity asked.

"She and Skara are dating," Kevin answered.

"Okay, but what does that—" Amity started to ask before receiving that look from Kevin, one that told her all she needed to know. "Ooooh, ew. Is there anyone you don't corrupt with your...you-ness?"

"Nope! It's called a corruption kink, something I excel at," Kevin said, turning his head and winking down at the pinkette. The witch sighed and pinched the bride of her nose.

"I'm going to ignore that little comment for now. If no more 'interesting' characters pop up out of the blue for a few minutes and then never get seen again, can we please get to dancing? These shoes are fucking killing me," Boscha grumbled in aggrevation.

"If they're killing you, why did you wear them?" Kevin asked with a quirked eyebrow.

"I wanted to look nice for you," she mumbled under her breath, causing the human to roll his eyes

"Boscha you always look nice. You don't need to kill or hurt yourself for me to think you look beautiful. I already do," he admitted truthfully, causing that annoying, fluttering sensation to start back up in Boscha's chest as she blushed brightfully.

"Awwww," Luz cooed, ruining the moment like Kevin usually did and drawing an embarrassed glare from the pinkette.

Before she could say a word, the lights above them dimmed suddenly, and the upbeat music changed to something slow and sweet. The reaction was instantaneous, with everyone who had a date bringing their partner close, arms, tails, and wings getting tangled and wrapping around their sweethearts before they started to slow dance.

The gang followed their peers, with Luz giggling and dragging Amity away to an area that wasn't so cramped. She brought the witch in front of her, her hands wrapping tightly and securely around Amity's waist while the greenette reached up, wrapping her arms around Luz's neck.

They started to dance, moving in unison as they swayed and rocked back and forth to the music. Unlike most of the others around them, clumsily stepping on their dates foot or grabbing a little too low for their dates liking, Luz and Amity had experience dancing together. They could read each other's movements and know the exact step the other was about to take. Despite being a whole year, their first Grom dance was still fresh in their minds as ever.

Staring into one another's eyes, they were swallowed in seas of brown and gold, no longer paying attention to those surrounding them and getting lost in their own little shared world, where only they were allowed. Amity found herself a lot more nervous this time around. Her hands were a lot more clammy and sweaty and her heart was pounding against her ribcage. She found it funny how much more nervous she was this time, considering they weren't in the middle of fighting Grom itself.

"Definitely a lot calmer than our last Grom," Amity said at an attempt of the joke, one that was successful in making Luz laugh.

"Feels nice to just dance and, ya know, not fight for our lives," Luz said, remembering the good times they had before she had to leave. It made her wonder how much she had missed out on in those nine months away, what could've or might've been had she been selfish enough to stay instead of returning. "Seems like only yesterday I offered to take your place as champion. So much has changed since then," Luz said, saddened by that fact.

"Yeah, a lot has happened since you were gone," Amity said, remembering the changes everyone had gone through, remembering the changes the Demon Realm had gone through. So much good happened, all because of one human who wouldn't let her dreams of becoming a witch die, no matter how difficult the trials she faced. Luz was headstrong and always refused to give up. Not on her dreams, not on people like Lilith, not... not even a lost cause like Amity. "A lot has changed. I wish you were here to witness it all."

"Well, I can tell you one thing that hasn't changed," she said, confusing Amity.

"And what's that?" the greenette asked, letting out a small yelp as she was suddenly and unexpectedly dipped. She looked up, any words she was getting ready to say or ask dying in her throat as Luz smiled down at her, the light from above giving her an almost angelic hue.

"You're still as beautiful as the day I first laid eyes on you," Luz said, tone full of sincerity, passion, admiration, and—dare Amity's mind play a trick on her—love perhaps? The witch could feel her face heat up immensely, and titan knows what brand new shade of red her face had just invented. "With how much you blush, I should start calling you my little strawberry," Luz teased, before gasping as an idea hit her. "I got it! You're my little strawberry princess!" she cooed, only further embarrassing the girl in her arms.

As Amity had the time of her life with her date, Boscha was...well, having fun, but also having a little bit of difficulty with her date.

"Ow! Fuckin hell!"

"Stop trying to grab my ass!" Boscha warned after having just stepped on Kevin's foot with her heel. She could feel her cheeks heating up a bit from having his hand a little too low for her secret liking.

"I wasn't! I was trying to readjust my hand!" Kevin said, trying to argue his innocence, but Boscha was having none of it.

"You can 'readjust' your hand without trying to grab my ass!" she growled up at him, her flushing cheeks taking away from any intimidation she was attempting. He found it absolutely adorable; she was like a cute little kitten, or a small dog that was all bark and...well some bite.

"I mean, to be fair, it is a nice ass," he said, making the pinkette blush a dark purple as she groaned out of a mixture of annoyance and embarrassment. She went in close, deciding to bury her face into his chest to not give him the satisfaction of seeing her in such an embarrassed and flustered state. She felt his chest rumble and shake as he laughed that sickly sweet annoying laugh.

Thank titan he decided to leave it at that and keep quiet, allowing her to actually enjoy his presence instead of holding back the urge to strangle him (not that the freak would mind, she was sure he'd actually enjoy it). She hated how flustered and embarrassed she got when he spoke; they were just words, dammit! They shouldn't make her feel this way! Why did he have to say such things? Why, out of everyone at Hexside, was she seemingly his only target for such lewd and crude remarks?

Which...actually raised the question, was she his only target? They only had one class together, so titan knows who else he would talk to during the other periods. Who else did he tease, or flirt with, or smile that wonderful irritating, cocky, and self-absorbed grin at? The one that was seemingly only for her? Not that she was jealous, of course! He was his own person; he could do and say whatever he wanted with whomever he wanted. It's not like they were dating or anything!

Why did it hurt so much to think that?

"Hey, why did you come with me anyway?" she asked suddenly, pulling away to stare at him. He gave her a confused stare, clearly not expecting such a question.

"Because you asked me to? Seems kinda obvious to me, doesn't it?" he said, causing Boscha to grit her teeth in irritation. Was he purposely trying to be a smart ass? Or did it just come naturally?

"I mean why me specifically? Didn't anyone else ask you?" she clarified. She was more than positive the answer was yes. Probably a handful. like fix or six, hell, maybe even seven.

"Oh no, other people did. A lot asked me actually, probably about 15," he answered truthfully, stunning her. How the fuck did he get so many people to ask him? Like okay, she could admit in certain lights he looked nice and he wasn't a total nuisance all the time, but still, how were there so many people desperate for a Grom partner?

And...she just realized she called herself desperate.

"I can't tell if you're being serious or just trying to stroke your own ego," Boscha said, causing the human to chuckle.

"Trust me, if I got to choose what I could be stroking right now, my ego would certainly not be it," he joked, and she let out a noise of disgust in response. "So what's with the question? Why did ya wanna know if someone else asked me to go?"

"Well, if so many other people asked you to go, why didn't you go with any of them? Why did you go with me?" she asked in all seriousness. Him accepting in the first place was unexpected, given their rather violent history, but now knowing he had so many other suitors asking for him to accompany them, it only made that itch of wanting to know grow that much more. She prayed to titan he would have an actual, well thought out response or genuine reasoning, instead of saying something stupid like 'dat ass' or whatever else.

"Oh, well it's simple," he said, pulling her close and smiling warmly down at her, not teasing or playful or anything. "It's because I don't care about any of them as much as I care about you," he said seriously, not leaving room for her to cast doubt or accuse him of lying, of just saying it. It honestly made her gasp, and her blush came back in full force, much darker than before.

To say her jaw dropped from the sudden declaration would probably be the understatement of the year, because wow she certainly wasn't expecting something like that. To him, it was probably a simple comment, one that rolled right off the tongue with ease. But to her, hearing someone say they cared about her more than everyone else? It meant the world to her, knowing that while her family may not have loved it, someone did love her, someone did care about her. And if they weren't in the middle of a gymnasium full of their fellow classmates, she would've broken down then and there, only allowing him to see her in such a messy, vulnerable state, because she knew she could trust him.

Just as quickly as the song had begun, it was over as the music came to a close before the lights above brightened. A fun and energetic song started up soon after, giving the kids a break from any lingering awkwardness and allowing them some solo fun. Kevin and Boscha separated, both instantly missing the closeness and warmth and looking forward to the next opportunity. As Boscha tried calming herself down, Kevin eyed the room and spotted Luz sitting at a table by herself. Amity must've been getting them something to drink, or going to the bathroom, or something like that.

Perfect.

"Do you mind if I go piss Amity off real quick?" Kevin asked once Boscha was no longer purple in the face. She looked to where he was gesturing and saw Luz, and the pieces soon fit together. On one hand, they were supposed to be spending time together, but on the other hand, Amity being pissed off was always funny to see and brought her joy.

Eh, why not? She could spare the idiot for a few minutes.

"Sure, go ahead. But I get the next dance," she said, giving him a green light. He grinned, leaning down and pecking her cheek as thanks.

"Thanks princess! I promise I'll be yours the rest of the night!" He winked before dashing off for his friend, leaving the pinkette to blush dark purple again as she touched where he had kissed her. Boscha smiled and let out a small sigh.

He might've been an idiot, but at least he was her idiot.

As Boscha thought about her idiot, the boy in question had something completely different on his mind at the moment.

'Goddamn sweaty palms,' Kevin cursed in his mind as he wiped his hands onto his pants. His palms were sweaty, knees weak, even his arms felt a bit heavy as he traversed through the crowd to get to Luz. The girl noticed him coming before he could even get close, and excitedly waved at him from the table. "Hey Luz! Where's Amity?"

"She's taking care of Emira and Edric, along with Viney and Jerbo. Apparently, the two of them got caught trying to spike the punchbowl," Luz answered, shuddering at remembering the cold and killer look Amity had in her eyes when the teacher had approached her about her siblings.

"Good thing you didn't drink any, we don't need a repeat of the last time you accidentally got drunk," Kevin said, but Luz waved him off.

"Oh come on, it wasn't that bad."

"Luz, you nearly burned my house down," Kevin said in the most deadpan tone he could muster, causing the girl to blush out of embarrassment. After that day, Luz was no longer allowed to get her own drinks from his kitchen. That job fell upon Suit (or Kevin if he was already in there). Luz was also a talker when she was drunk, and Kevin had learned a lot of interesting things about the girl that day.

"To be fair, I did say I was sorry! Multiple times!" she exclaimed in defense, causing the boy to chuckle. "Changing subjects before you bring up any other embarrassing I may have said or done—"

"Like how you said you wanted to eat ou—"

"ANYWAY, what are you doing over here? I thought you would be spending time with your girlfriend," she teased, loving the way Kevin tried to scowl and look intimidating, which failed on account of his pinkening cheeks.

"I actually wanted to ask you something, umchka," he said, much to her surprise.

"What did ya wanna ask me?" Luz asked, surprised as he offered her his hand.

"I wanted to know for this next song, will you be the Catra to my Adora?" he asked, giving her a smile, nervous smile. The girl snorted and started to laugh, not at the fact he had asked her, but the way he did it.

"You couldn't just ask me to dance like a normal person, could you?" she chuckled while grasping to his hand, allowing the boy to pull her up and over to an open space where they could begin.

"Oh please, when have I ever been normal?" Kevin asked, causing Luz to snort again because yeah, he had a good point. Neither of them were normal; it's why they clicked so well together.

When they made it to a space big enough for them, the lights above them dimmed and changed colors. Yellow, pink, and dark purple cascaded down from above and painted the gym floor and its occupants. An all too familiar song started to play, the one from the very scene from She-Ra they were about to recreate, and Luz gasped upon realization.

"How'd you get the DJ to play this song?" Luz asked, causing the boy to grin.

"I have my ways."

(With the DJ)

If one were close enough and paid enough attention to the DJ, they could clearly see the one eyed-goat boy sweating furiously as he gave the most genuine smile he could muster, given the current situation he was in. A clicking sound from below made his blood turn cold, and he looked down to see one of Kevin's clones staring up at him from an opening in the stage, gun drawn and pointed at him.

"Just smile and wave Mr. DJ man, just smile and wave."

(Back with the others)

Amity walked back into the gym soon after, Emira and Edric accompanied by their dates following close behind. Amity had managed to convince Bump to give them lesser punishments than he had planned for them. Originally he was going to suspend them, but she managed to get it down to three weeks of detention and cleaning up the gym once Grom was over with, with no help from their illusions or friends, of course. She felt her siblings pat her back as thanks before disappearing into the crowds with their dates, deciding to be nice and leave the girl alone for the rest of the night as a sign of appreciation. With a sigh, Amity looked through the sea of students in an attempt to find Luz, and—oh.

The greenette's eyes widened as she saw a familiar head of brown escorting another familiar head of brown. Her blood instantly started to boil like the rain as she saw Kevin and Luz stand across one another on the dance floor. Part of her was tempted to go over there, maybe make a scene and ask what in the name of titan was that backstabber doing with her date? But before she could, Amity calmed herself down before she could go through with such a decision. It was just one dance, and the night would be filled with plenty others. Scanning the crowd, she saw Boscha sitting alone at a table and stalked her way towards the pinkette before sitting down to join her. The ex-bully nodded her head as a welcome, and Amity nodded back before they set their eyes on their dates.

(With Kevin and Luz)

'Just for tonight, let me pretend I'm the one you like.'

Kevin and Luz raised their hand towards one another, palms meeting in midair as they smiled at one another before they started swaying back and forth, their free arms bent and hidden behind their backs. It wasn't long before they started to walk in a circle, matching each other's pace.

"We haven't danced like this since your prom. You sure you remember the moves?" Kevin asked, grasping Luz's hands before pulling her close, only to let her go before both of them pointed their arms downwards, forming an X.

"I remember you getting a little too excited and setting the gym on fire," Luz smirked as they grasped hands together once again, bringing each other close once more before Kevin spun her around, the girl coming to rest comfortably against his chest. He chuckled at the memory, secretly missing the times where it was just the two of them and no one else.

"We were still crowned prom king and queen though!"

"That's only because you stole the crowns while everyone else ran for their lives," Luz said, causing Kevin to chuckle again.

"A victory is a victory in my books. Besides, what can I say? I'm a showman," he said, spinning the girl out of the embrace before taking a hold and dipping her. "I guess you could even call me the greatest showman," he joked, causing Luz to snort out in laughter at the overly cheesy joke. He really did love that movie.

"You did it wrong, silly," Luz said, causing Kevin to quirk an eyebrow in confusion. Placing both feet onto the ground Luz stood up, grabbing Kevin close before twisting their bodies and dipping him, much to his surprise. "I'm supposed to dip you, remember? I'm Catra, after all."

"Ah, y-yeah, I just, I uh, k-knew that," he managed to stutter out, red attacking his cheeks as he blushed, bi panic setting in. She giggled at his reaction before bringing him back up, much to his relief.

"You're doing good! No fires so far, I'm so proud," she continued to tease him, causing him to roll his eyes.

"Oh please, I bet you say that to all the guys."

"Only to the cute ones named Kevin." She winked up at him, giggling again as he turned a dark shade of red. It was always fun to tease him!

As Amity watched them dance, she couldn't help but feel a wave of uneasiness wash over her. She didn't know why, maybe she was just being paranoid, but there was something...different about Kevin as he and Luz danced. He was smiling, which wasn't a problem in and of itself, but it wasn't the cocky or slick or teasing ones he would always wear when in a fight or when he teased both her and Boscha. It was soft, real, warm, and genuine, like it was only meant for Luz and Luz alone. And, the look in his eyes, so warm, vibrant, and alive. She wasn't used to seeing him so happy...and as bad as it made her sound, it honestly made her stomach twist in nervousness. Don't get her wrong; they were friends (in her eyes, at least) and she did trust him, but there was no way of knowing what was going through that boy's mind, and she hardly knew what happened between him and Luz back in the human world. Were they always just friends? Or was there ever something more?

The lights above brightened again, signaling that this round of dancing had finally come to a close, much to the greenette's relief. Amity watched as Luz and Kevin separated before bowing, bringing giggles out of each of them. She watched as they started talking, Kevin gesturing to the table with the new, un-spiked punch had been brought out. Luz nodded and the two went their separate ways, with Kevin going towards the table and Luz heading towards her and Boscha.

"Complete show off, isn't he?" Boscha asked, snapping Amity out of her thoughts.

"Hmm? Oh, uh, yeah, yeah he is. Of course he can dance too, among everything else. Makes you wonder if there's anything he can't do. Maybe he's bad at kissing?"

"Oh no, he's definitely good at that too," Luz said upon sitting down at the table, having only heard the second half of their conversation. She watched as the two girls froze before turning towards her with wide eyes.

"What?"

"What?"

"What?" Luz asked finally, confused at their reactions.

"I...You two have kissed?" Amity asked, a sudden and strong rage filling her heart at the idea of her and Kevin...gross!

"I got some punch," Kevin said as he and a clone appeared in front of the trio. He and the clone sat the drinks down before noticing the death glares he was receiving from Amity and Boscha. "What did I miss?"

"You and Luz kissed?" Boscha asked with a glare, causing Kevin and his clone's eyes to widen. Kevin turned to his clone for help, but his copy raised in hands in surrender.

"You're on your own dude," the clone said before poofing into thin air.

"Fucking traitor," Kevin growled under his breath before turning back to the two glaring girls. "I can explain! And the explanation is, it wasn't my fault!"

"How the hell is the two of you kissing not your fault?" Boscha questioned with two raised eyes.

"I—Okay so we were running from the cops, right, and—"

"This was after Kevin sat someone's car on fire," Luz said, explaining why they were running from the police to begin with.

"The person whose car I set on fire was bullying Luz. I had to teach her a lesson. Anyway, as I was saying, we were running from the cops and tried losing them in the crowd of other people. We managed to lose them, but one of them pushed us to the ground by accident and, well...we kissed. Totally by accident, not planned, and in no way, shape, or form my fault!" he said. To be fair, yes, he didn't have to set that girl's car on fire, but to be equally as fair, that girl didn't have to be such a bitch to Luz. Even with the explanation, he could still tell both girls were pissed off about the situation. 'Need a distraction before they try setting me on fire, again!'

"Mr. Kevin! It's time to fight Grom!" Bump called out from across the room, two walls full of weapons rising up from the ground on either side of him.

"Oh thank god," Kevin muttered under his breath, thankful for the escape from the awkwardness. "We can talk about this later, or preferably never! Wish me luck!" he said, backing and eventually running away towards the safety that was Grom. Grom might've been a fear demon, but even it wasn't as scary as pissed off Amity and Boscha duo.

"So, do we kill him tonight after he fights Grom, or tomorrow when he least expects it?" Boscha asked as she and the others stood up from the table. Like many others, they made their way to the edge of the pit that had opened in the middle of the gymnasium's floor. She leaned over the railing, watching as the idiot walked down the ramp with the provided weapons of his choice, a sword and a shield.

"I honestly can't decide. We should flip a snail, heads for tonight and snails for tomorrow," Amity said, watching as the ramp started to rise, becoming a wall and trapping Kevin in the pit. This was Bump's doing, as he didn't want a repeat of what happened when Luz had first fought Grom.

"Kick Grom's culo, Kevin!" Luz shouted, not paying attention as her date planned her friend's murder.

"If I had a nickel for everytime this has happened to me," Kevin muttered to himself upon seeing himself trapped. A disgusting, squishing sound could be heard from across the pit, and his eyes zeroed in on black goo that slowly started rising from the ground. It started sticking together, molding itself and growing taller, the black changing different colors until it was no longer goo, but a man standing in its place. A tall man, over six feet, wearing a black balaclava mask over his face, black combat boots, and a green military uniform. A knife hung from a pouch on the front of his uniform, and a gun hung from the hollister on his side.

"Ty rasskazhesh' mne vse, chto ya khochu znat'," the man said, confusing everyone in the room as none of them understood the foreign language. Everyone except for Kevin of course, who growled at the man and pointed his sword at him.

"Yedinstvennoye, chto ya sdelayu, eto votknu etot mech tebe v sheyu, kak v proshlyy raz," Kevin said in return before charging across the field and straight towards the man.

The soldier drew his pistol, firing off several shots towards the human boy, but Kevin managed to black them all with his shield. Soon the only thing coming out of the pistol were nothing but clicks, as the magazine had finally run empty. With a growl, Grom threw the pistol towards the ground and readied its knife, attempting a slash towards Kevin only for the attack to be blocked by his shield. Kevin raised his foot, kicking Grom square in the stomach and sending the man slamming against the wall. Grom had no time to react as Kevin closed the distance, plunging his sword into the man's neck, just like he said he would. The man beneath him let out an unholy screech as Kevin twisted the blade into his neck.

"An all too familiar scene, isn't it?" Kevin asked while watching Grom lose its appearance, no longer the man Kevin once knew but now a pile of black goo. Kevin turned and walked away after that, raising his hands into the air as a sign of victory after completing round one of three, and the crowd cheered as well. "Woo! Who's ready for the next round?" he asked the crowd, being the showman he always loved to be, and causing the cheers to grow louder.

"Stop showboating and pay attention, dumbass! Don't let Grom get the jump on you," Boscha shouted from above, watching as the goo started to take shape once more.

"Oh relax, what's the worst that can—" Kevin started to say as he turned back around, only to be cut off as something large and hard smashed into his chest, sending the boy flying back and hitting the ground, hard. A resounding 'ooo' of pain echoed off the walls of the gym as many winced from the blow; it must've hurt. As Kevin gasped for air as the wind had been knocked out of him, a crazed laugh made his eyes widen, and he groaned while laying his head on the ground. "Not this fucker."

He looked up, noticing a giant, red boxing glove was traveling back across the field after it had hit him. A man was holding the machine that the glove was attached to. He had pure white skin, dark green hair, red lipstick across his lips and extending over to scars on both of his cheeks. This man, this clown from the looks of it, wore a purple suit with a long orange bowtie.

"Kevin's afraid of clowns?" Amity asked, but Luz shook her head.

"That's no ordinary clown."

"You know what my favorite part of a joke is? The punchline!" the clown said before laughing again, sending a shudder down the spines of those who watched.

"It wasn't funny the first 100 times you said, and it definitely isn't funny now, Joker," Kevin said as he rose to his feet, just as the man threw his boxing glove weapon to the side.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't little Kevin. Or should I call you by your new name? Jason Todd 2.0! Tell me, how are the kneecaps?" Joker asked with a crazed, borderline evil grin.

"They're doing better. How's that hole in your chest you got after Superman punched straight through you?" Kevin asked in retaliation, causing the clown to scowl, which did a complete 180 before turning into another grin. Joker grabbed onto the front of his suit before pulling it apart, causing many of the onlookers to flinch upon seeing a hole in the man's chest, allowing them to see his insides.

"Oh it's fine, but I've been feeling a bit empty inside ever since I got it," he said before letting out another laugh. "Ah good times, good times. Oh, and what's this? The big bad bat isn't here to save you like last time. Maybe this time I can turn that little frown of yours into a big, beautiful, permanent smile, just like mine."

"Don't count on it. I didn't need his help last time, and I don't need him now," Kevin said, causing Grom to smile.

"Well then, shall we dance? I even got you this lovely corsage," Joker said while grabbing and presenting the flower pinned to his suit. The clown grinned before a green stream of liquid shot out from the plant, flying across the field at Kevin, and it would've hit, too, had the human not raised his shield. The shield immediately started to dissolve, causing Kevin to yelp as unclipped it off of his arm and tossed it to the ground. He watched as it continued to dissolve until it was nothing but a pile of green and gold goo.

"Acid spraying flower, ya can't beat the classics! Let's see what else I have in my mystery bag," Joker said before pulling out a comically large bag. He opened it and started shuffling stuff around, tossing it over his shoulder and towards Kevin.

Kevin jumped and dodged out of the way as a flying pie landed on the ground where he once stood before it blew up. Several pairs of chattering teeth toys came his way soon after, and he managed to slice in half almost all of them. A few managed to make it past his sword, the teeth chewing and slicing through his suit and the skin of his arms. He slammed his foot onto the ground, causing several boulders to jump into the air before he sent them flying Joker's way as retaliation.

The clown prince of crime turned, a puppet of a man wearing a bat suit with a gun in his mouth rested comfortably on his right hand. He started firing, the puppet managing to shred through two of the three boulders before its mag was emptied. He tossed the puppet away before using his flower to shoot acid and dissolve the third. He tossed several canisters onto the field, each exploding upon impact and sending a green gas into the air. Kevin covered his mouth and nose, blasting air through the smoke and making an opening big enough for him to squeeze through the laughing gas without being affected. He's seen what that stuff has done to the people of Gotham, and he would not be another victim.

More pies and chattering teeth were sent volleying his way, and he dodged and sliced through them all, one by one. The clown was getting erratic now, tossing whatever he could find inside his bag, including non threatening stuff like various costumes and wigs. Kevin even had to jump out of the way as two hyenas, one with a green mohawk and the other with a pink mohawk, were tossed his way. He leapt forward just as Joker turned back around, and the clown howled in laughter and pain as he was lifted into the air, sword plunged into his stomach.

"Any more jokes?" Kevin asked as he stared up at the clown, black goo dribbling out of the corners of his mouth.

"J-Just one. Y-You've always been a sharp little fucker," Joker said, a weak chuckle escaping him as he pressed a button. A weak stream of acid exited the flower and got onto the sword, forcing Kevin to drop it and Joker before it could touch him. Like before, the Joker dissolved into black goo, and Kevin backed away and readied himself for the final round.

He was panting, wincing as blood spilled from his opened wounds and stained his suit, mental scars long since closed reopening. He tried his best to ignore the pain and the trauma, just like he always did. There was no use in dwelling on it. Not now, not ever. He just had to keep swimming; otherwise he would drown in his sorrow and depression. So instead, he pushed down the negative thoughts and feelings, ignoring the pain like he was prone to do, and focused on the task at hand: beating Grom.

Kevin watched as the fear demon started to shape and mold itself, switching and changing several different beings. He could pick out and name everything Grom was considering changing into: a monster with a yellow beak and its brain exposed, an eyeless being with a long head with a miniature mouth for its tongue, a mask very similar to Suit's, a gift that was to his long lost love.

So many things to choose from, but nothing felt right. Enough of trying to break him physically, it was time for mentally, emotionally.

Grom flashed a bright, white light, blinding many who were close by. As it finally died down, Kevin stopped shielding his eyes and looked to see what Grom had turned into now. His eyes widened in shock, and suddenly he felt nauseated from what he saw; a dark blue minivan, passenger side facing him. The silhouette of a person could be seen on the inside, through the tinted glass.

"Ese hijo de puta! This is low, even for Grom," Luz growled, much to the surprise of Amity and Boscha.

"What do you mean? Who even is that?" Boscha asked, watching as the passenger side door to the car opened.

"That is Kevin's dead—"

"Mommy?" Kevin asked after a woman finally stepped out of the car. She was a bit on the heavy side, several inches shorter than Kevin with bright brown eyes protected by a pair of glasses, and short and curly brown hair, reaching just barely past her neck. She had pale skin, with a kind and warm smile that could light up a room or make you feel as if everything was going to be a-okay. It was a smile that Kevin had often looked to for guidance and comfort as a child after the rougher days at school, when the bullies were relentless.

"What's wrong dear? You look like you've seen a ghost," his mother said with a frown. "Are you feeling well? Here, let me feel your forehead," she said, reaching up to touch his forehead before he smacked her hand away.

"No! Don't-don't you dare touch me!" he said as he started walking backwards to distance himself, tripping over his own feet and falling to the ground before scurrying to get back up. "You're-you're not my mother!" Kevin exclaimed, feeling his body shaking, though from what he wasn't sure. Anger? Fear? A mixture of both? He grabbed his left arm in an attempt to control the shaking and hopefully stop it.

"Whatever do you mean dear? Of course I'm real, I'm standing right here," she said in faux confusion. "It's me, Hel—"

"Don't you dare speak her name! You don't have the right!" Kevin shouted, short huffs of air escaping him similar to that of a bull. There was the unmistakable feeling of dread filling up his chest as he looked at her. Every square inch was exactly as he remembered, a perfect carbon copy.

And that only sickened him even more.

"Young man, I did not carry you for nine months just so you could raise your voice at me! I thought I knew you better!" she exclaimed while placing both hands on her hips.

"You don't know anything about me; you're not my mother! She-she's dead, they're all dead, you bastard!" Kevin spat out with venom lacing his tone. "I should strike you down where you stand for dishonoring my mother's memory like this!"

"Oh, so you're threatening me now, huh? What would your father say about this?" she tsked at him. "And whatever do you mean that I don't know anything about you? I know everything about you! You're my son after all, my favorite son, remember?"

"I know about that scar on your upper right thigh you got from being bitten by a wild dog at the park when you were four, when your brothers were supposed to be watching you. I remember you would watch the Lion King nonstop every weekend; it would drive your brothers crazy. I remember whenever we got deep dish pizza from our favorite place, you would have me cut it up for you because the slices were too big for you to hold by yourself," she said, listing off every known and personal fact about him. The boy refused to listen, opting instead to close his eyes so he couldn't see her, and shake his head at her words. She was not his mother! "And of course, I know what you've done," a voice whispered into his ear, causing him to scream and jump away, turning to see his mother was right behind him. He looked over his shoulder to see the first mother had disappeared. How was that possible? He had blinked for a second.

"How did you—"

"Your family and I have been watching you for a long time, Kevin. We know what you've become, we've seen the things you've done. We're so...disappointed," she said in a sad tone, driving a dagger through Kevin's heart.

"N-No, no! That wasn't any of my fault! I-I didn't choose this life!"

"But you stuck with it, did you not? Even with all the pain you've caused, with all the people you've hurt, leaving this life never even crossed your mind, did it?" she shook her head while circling around him, like a predator to its prey.

"I-I, well no, but that doesn't mean anything! I'm not—"

"Like your brothers?" she asked before shaking her head. "You're right, you're not like them. You're worse than they ever were," she continued to berate him, and it tore his heart apart. "Your father and I are so ashamed of you.

"I-I didn't want this! I didn't want any of this!" he shouted, legs shaking and weakening, causing him to crash to his knees as he held onto himself and sobbed. "I-I just want the voices to stop, I want the pain to stop! I just want to be a good boy," he whimpered, feeling his grip on sanity loosen and loosen with every passing second. He just wanted all of this pain to go away!

"Shh, it's okay, it's okay. There's still time to make up for everything, my son," she said while dropping to her knees and holding his head in her hands, using her thumbs to wipe away his tears as he nuzzled against the tender and warm touch.

"H-How?" he asked, not noticing her quick and sudden bloodthirsty grin, quickly hidden and replaced with a warm smile. She reached behind her back, a dagger forming in her hand before she brought her it forward and rested it in the palm of his hand.

"Take this blade, stick in here," she said while pointing to the side of his neck. "and cut through alllll the way over here," she said, finger gliding across his neck over to the other side.

"W-What? Why?"

"This is the only way to make up for your sins. Don't you want to be a family again?" she asked.

"Be a family again?" Kevin muttered, staring down at the sharpened blade resting in the palm of his hand. The idea scared him, but he would be lying if he said he hadn't attempted this before, numerous times. At least, not that often with a knife.

But...he missed them, all of them, and what was a minute or two of pain compared to never feeling pain ever again? With glossy, lifeless eyes, as if he was under some kind of control, he placed the sharpened blade to where his mother had indicated. He flinched upon the cold steel entering his neck before he started to slowly cut.

"No, no, no, no! What's he doing?!" Boscha shouted, just as she and the others started to panic. Luz and Amity were equally as scared for their friend, not knowing exactly what they could do as interfering with a Grom fight was forbidden, and could result in expulsion. But none of them cared; they only cared for their friend. "Kevin! You dumbass, snap out of this and stop! Stop it! Kevin!"

"Huh?" he shook his head, snapping out of whatever trance he was in and looked to the source, watching as all three girls stared back at him. "Boscha?" he asked, before feeling something latch onto his wrist, a weight on top of him as his wrist was twisted and knife pointed at his throat.

"Fine then, I'll do it myself," his mother growled, her plan failing and causing her to resort to plan B. "C'mon sweetie, do as mommy says and plunge this knife into your neck," she said, trying to force his hand and the knife deeper into his throat. His eyes widened at that before narrowing in anger.

"You're not my mother!" he shouted, kicking the demon off of him before jumping on top and thrusting the knife into the monster's neck, causing it to let out a terrifying screech. But Kevin didn't stop there; once he started, once he was worked up, it was nearly impossible to make him stop. Again and again, he used the blade and dug it into the neck of his fake mother, the copy continuing to scream as it slowly dissolved into its true, black goo form. Soon there was nothing just, but he was on autopilot now, and he continued stabbing the ground long after Grom had gone back into hiding.

Eventually he tired himself out, panting to himself and dropping the knife to the ground. There was silence for a few minutes before the onlookers cheered, thrilled to have Grom defeated for another year, allowing them to continue with their night.

But he wasn't paying attention to the cheers or the voices. Instead he was staring down at black stained hands and suit. Only, Kevin wasn't seeing black. To him, the black goo seemed like crimson red as it slowly dripped from his hand, the blood of his family. For a second, he was flashing back to when he was a child, trying to shake his mother away on the sidewalk, his five year old mind not familiar with the concept of death.

He was shaking again, feeling excruciating pain coming from his chest that made him desperately clutch onto it. It felt like he was having a heart attack, but he knew this wasn't it. Why was it so hot? Why-why couldn't he breath? He-he needed air, now!

Rising to his feet he turned and booked it up the ramp and through the double doors, feet sliding against the ground and slamming him into a nearby locker before he ran down the hall and out the doors to the outside world. He didn't get far before he was tripping, falling to his knees and clutching his chest, gasping for air desperately, yet nothing was coming in. He felt like he was dying, and knew what was happening but had no power to stop it. An anxiety attack, which he was prone to, just like panic attacks. Usually Suit would be here to help, to inject him with something that would ease him into unconsciousness or to calm him down. But Suit wasn't here, was he? No, he was alone. Always alone, forever alo—

Something pressed against the side of his head, and the boy felt a circle being drawn. In a flash of pink, he gasped for air once more, finally able to breath as sweat dropped from his brow. He panted, feeling himself calming down, but the symptoms of the attack still lingered. He turned to see Boscha kneeling down next to him, looking concerned, worried for him.

"Are you okay?" she asked, not knowing exactly what to say in a situation like this. He thought about it for a second, going to nod his head on impulse, like he was prone to do, but he was tired of lying. Instead he shook his head, not trusting his voice right now. She nodded, wrapping her arms around him and bringing him in close and hugging him. She felt him shake in her arms, tears falling from his eyes and wetting her neck, so she held him tighter, rubbing a hand up and down his back in comfort.

"S-Sorry, about...all of that," he finally managed to get out, causing her to sigh.

"Oh shut it. Don't apologize for anything. You didn't do anything wrong."

"But-But I ruined our n-night, a-and you're here instead of—"

"I care about you more than I do about some stupid dance, surrounded by people I don't even like. Look, you've always been there for me. Now, shut up and let me be here for you," she ordered him, stunning him into silence. He swallowed thickly, and with cherry red cheeks he nodded at the demand and allowed himself to be cared for for once.

They stayed there for a few minutes longer, enjoying the silence and the embrace, each other's warmth combating back against the cold of the outside world. When he was finally calmed down enough he pulled away, wiping away the tears.

"You going to be okay?" Boscha asked, still concerned for his well-being.

"Heh, that's a loaded question, isn't it?" he chuckled, rising to his feet and offering her a hand up, which she accepted. "But, I think I will be. Especially with you by my side," he admitted with a smile while intertwining their hands, causing her to blush.

"Kevin!" a voice shouted, and the two separated just in time as someone barreled into the human boy. He held his ground, but just barely, keeping himself from getting knocked down to the ground. "Are you okay?! I was so worried! How's your neck?" Luz asked as she backed out of the hug and forcibly turned his head, inspecting where he had cut himself.

"I'm fine, I'm fine, just a flesh wound. Believe me, I've had worse," he said, trying to comfort them. But judging by the likes he was receiving from Luz, Boscha, and Amity (who had come outside with Luz to check on Kevin), his words were anything but comforting. "I-I mean, I haven't had worse?"

"Do we need like, a protection squad or something for your dumbass so you'll stop getting hurt?" Boscha asked.

"Ed and Em would probably join."

"Eda and King too."

"Wha—Don't I have a say in this?"

"No," the three answered simultaneously, causing the boy to sigh.

"But how is that fair?! I should get a say if there should be a Kevin protection squad or not!"

"Will you promise to stop doing stupid stuff?" Luz asked. Kevin opened his mouth to say something, before immediately closing it afterwards. "Thought so. The protection squad is being formed as soon as possible. And no buts!" she exclaimed before Kevin could say anything, causing the boy to sigh.

"Can we just get back to the dance please?"

(Several hours later. Amity's secret library room)

Amity opened the door to her secret room and found Kevin sitting in the chair he usually sat in, already waiting for her. He and Boscha had left before she and Luz did; he must've walked Boscha home before returning here to meet with her. Upon the door opening he looked up from his phone and stared at her, a small smile forming as he waved, which she gladly returned. She walked into the room and made her way towards her own chair before sitting down, a silence looming over the two of them, neither knowing what to say. After what happened earlier, what was she supposed to say?

"Are-Are you okay?" she asked, wanting, needing, to check up on him. He didn't say anything at first, probably trying to get his jumbled thoughts in order.

Finally, he sighed. "No, I'm not okay. I'm-I'm never going to be okay," he said before sitting up, cradling his head with one hand, a small, weak huff of laughter escaping him. "This sickness, these diseases that plague my mind will never go away. From alcohol, to medicine, to magic itself, I've tried everything to stop it all, but nothing's worked. I'm stuck like this until the day I die," he said truthfully, causing Amity to frown.

"That's so sad."

"Yeah, well, my life ain't no fairy tail. Luz knows it, and Boscha does too to some extent. Maybe I'll tell you all about it, one of these days," he said, causing Amity to bite her lip.

"Speaking of Luz...I have a question for you," Amity said, much to Kevin's surprise. He gestured for her to ask, causing her to sigh and fiddle with the hem of her dress. "Do you like Luz? Like, more than a friend?" she asked, causing his eyes to widen.

"Kind of an odd question in my opinion. Reminds me of this one time—"

"No," she said suddenly, cutting him off. "This is serious, I'm serious, Kevin. No jokes, or quips, or wisecracks, or stories, or stupid references. I need you to be honest with me right now," she said in a serious tone, and suddenly, the temperature was much colder in the room than it was before.

"What brought this on?" he asked.

"I—Ever since she brought you here, it's obvious the two of you are close. How casual you are around each other: the inside jokes, the hugs, the kisses. At first I thought you were together until you confronted me that day in the woods, and even after you denied there was anything going on, there was this nagging voice in the back of my head that said otherwise. And then, tonight happened. I've never seen you look so happy, so alive before, not even with Boscha. The way you were looking at her tonight, the way you were smiling, it-it reminded me of myself when I'm around Luz," Amity said in full honesty. "So please, be honest with me. Do you like her like I do?" she asked again, watching him and his movements. He stared at her blankly, not showing any sign of emotion or reaction, like a statue.

"Okay, you want full honesty?" he asked, and she nodded. "The truth is I did, at one point at least. You don't exactly meet someone like her and not end up catching feelings, am I right? Ever since we first met, she's made me safe, welcomed, accepted—stuff I've never truly ever had since I was a child with my family. Despite what she knows about me and what I've gone through, she doesn't look at me any differently, doesn't judge me, doesn't hate me like others from my past. She likes me for me, despite all my flaws and demons," he said, a warm smile managing to form. No matter the situation, just thinking about the girl always made him smile.

"And now?"

"Well, now I don't. I knew she would never feel the same, so I buried my emotions, suffocated them, until there was nothing left. I love her as a friend now, nothing more. It's why I'm helping you, because you can give her what I can't: happiness," Kevin said, much to her surprise. She stared at him again, trying to find any signs of lying, or information he was golding back. When she saw nothing but truth, she smiled and nodded.

"Okay. Thank you for your honesty. It means a lot, knowing that everything is up in the air now," she said, and he nodded.

"Of course, it feels nice to finally admit it to you," he said before standing up. "If that's it for tonight, I'll be heading home. All this emotional trauma makes me tired," he said, half joking-half serious.

"Wait," she said suddenly, making him stop in the doorway. "I-I know we aren't the closest, but I do consider you a friend. If you ever need to talk, well, I'm here for you," she offered, causing him to smile.

"Thank you Amity, I appreciate it. The same goes for you as well," he said. "I'll see you tomorrow, goodnight," he said one final time before exiting the room, leaving Amity alone with her thoughts.

(Outside)

As a chilly breeze blew throughout the town, only a single soul could be seen walking through the empty and desolate streets. Kevin walked home, hands stuffed in his pockets as he kicked a small rock down the sidewalk, passing by stores that had long been closed for the night. He was alone, with nothing but his thoughts to keep him company.

"Tch, tch, tch," a voice tched him, causing Kevin to stop in his tracks and sigh.

Unfortunately, with a mind like his, he was never truly alone. He turned to the large window of the store he was in the process of passing by and stared at his red eyed reflection.

"Poor, poor Kevin. Here you are again, all alone," Taiko said in a faux dramatic tone, causing Kevint to grunt in annoyance.

"Not in the mood right now. Leave me alone," he said before walking away, only to pass by another store and its window, where his other personality appeared once again.

"Tell me, how does it feel to always sacrifice your happiness for the sake of others? Why do you feel the need to make others happy instead of yourself?"

"Because this isn't about me!" Kevin said, turning towards the window. "This is about Luz. Her happiness is all that matters to me. If she's happy, I'm happy."

"But you both could be happy though! Fuck 'Little Miss Perfect' and take what you want, be selfish for once in your goddamn life!"

"Sorry to disappoint, but that's not who I am. Amity...Amity can make her happier than I can. Besides, I like Boscha now," Kevin said, causing the mirrored him to roll his eyes.

"Okay, but be honest. If you had to choose between Luz and Boscha, who would you really pick?" Taiko asked, causing Kevin to flinch.

"I...I don't have to answer that," Kevin said, causing his other personality to chuckle.

"Of course you don't, because I already know the answer," the personality chuckled again before fading away, leaving Kevin alone to stare at his regular self in the mirror.

He grunted, turning from the cursed window and walking away. He wouldn't let Taiko poison his mind and convince him into doing something he might regret. Luz and Amity, they...they belonged together, and he had Boscha now! He wouldn't listen to his evil personality, or the hole in his heart that was begging, pleading, to be filled by the only person who could do it. He would keep pushing forward and ignore the pain, just like he always did.

Why did love have to be so complicated?

Chap 16 (another idea I tossed)

So after Kevin and Luz danced, I was going to have Luz and Amity dance again. I was going to have Luz dip Amity and have Amity stop moving. When Luz asks what was wrong, Amity would've said she was sleeping beauty and only a kiss could wake her up (an idea Kevin came up with). But before Luz could kiss her, Bump interrupts them by announcing Kevin has to fight Grom.

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed the chapter! Sorry about it taking so long, my beta had to look this chapter over, and school and work were getting in his way. Like I said, I hope you enjoyed, and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

NOTES

So remember the part with Emira and Edric spiking the punchbowl? Well, I was going to actually have that happen and have Luz get drunk before she tries kissing Amity (among other things). But Amity would've stopped her because no matter how much she wants it, she doesn't want to take advantage of Luz and wants Luz to give consent. I was going to use this part to talk about consent, but ultimately decided to not write it cause, ya know, TOH fans be crazy and cancel hungry. I plan on using a future chapter, maybe 17, to talk about why consent matters and why it's so important.

Kevin wasn't Luz's first kiss. In this story, it was 'human Amity' with the blonde and pink hair.

Translation for the Russian man vs. Kevin fight.

Russian Man: You are going to tell me everything I want to know.

Kevin: The only thing I'm going to do is drive this sword through your neck, just like last time.

Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room; Kevin's DID. It is NOT a 100% representation of real world DID. I took some creative liberties and wanted to address this. I apologize if it offends anyone, which is why I added the 'ghost or demon' thing earlier in the chapter, that y'all can determine and interpret for yourselves what Kevin has. The idea was given to me by a friend of mine. Also, Taiko wasn't his original name, it was suggested by another friend of mine. The personalities name was Psycho, given to Kevin when he was a young child. Again, I apologize if this offends anyone, and I hope you stick around. If not, I completely understand.

Any who, that's chapter 16 done! If none of y'all follow me on Instagram (ghost509_) or are in my Discord (found in the linktree link found in my Instagram bio) than you may not know that chapter 17 (and possibly 18) will be fillers. So I hope you're okay with that!

Think that's all I have to say. Join me next time when the gang becomes furries. See ya in chapter 17!
