Broken , Chapter 6

.

Who was Jedi Master and member of the the High Council, Anakin Skywalker?

.

. two years later

.
Two years after her child died and she split up from Anakin, has been terrible.

Padmé tried to convince herself that she didn't want this child because it bonded her with the man who had hurt her so badly, who left her alone after he had promised so much. But the truth was, she wanted this child. She wanted something that reminded her of him when he wasn't there. It was his son. She wanted to give him the name Anakin Junior ... and the grave slab remained nameless. He didn't even ask what it was. Did they tell him in the hospital it was a boy? Certainly.

It wasn't just about the child, it was about him too. She had said so many ugly things to him before he left. Yes, she wanted to hurt him, she felt herself hurt and wanted him to feel the same. Was that justified? Definitely not. She knew he would be traveling a lot, one mission after another. Yes, it was war, he did his job and she did hers. He had never said anything against her job. Has she wronged him? Somehow she knew she had. She brooded for two years. Here and there she talked to her sister. Sola kept telling her to think about all things, she should ask herself if she still loved him. Everything else would then be not important. And she couldn't. Yes, she loved him, but she couldn't forgive him for that, she thought was his fault.

After break of two year, she asked the Queen to put her back into active duty. Jar Jar Binks had represented her for the past two years. She thought she must slowly take her life in her hand and continue to live, even if the pain of loss of child was still deep.

The Queen was pleased with Padmé's decision and complied with her request.

Padme moved back to the Republica 500, her apartment on Coruscant. It was partly renovated, otherwise only thoroughly cleaned. C3PO was always there, helped and did every task that was assigned to him. The faithful Dormé, who had not left her side in the last two years, had also come. After a few days, when everything had found its place in the apartment, Padmé found her way into the Senate. Working late into the evening on weekends was not uncommon, more the norm. Padmé ate not much or forgetting that she was hungry. In the first year after returning to the Senate, Padmé went out a little, mostly with Mon Mothma. Mon was Vice Chancellor, Beil managed to win the elections. He was the Supreme Chancellor. Otherwise you could see her at the official events, but she didn't visit the galas, and neither did she go to the opera or the theater.

At the same time, two years after the break up from his wife and the death of his child, Anakin recovered, but only externally. Obi-Wan's life's work was to help his former Padawan get up on his feet. He made sure that Anakin ate regularly and correctly, that he did his training, meditate, not neglect his body and that his appearance was well-groomed. Anakin had his hair cut regularly, had a manicure done, and always wore clean and ironed clothes. Anakin became a swarm of women again, a man in his prime, perfect on the outside but broken on the inside. Over time he learned to present himself, nobody noticed how torn was his soul. Only Grand Master Yoda and Master Obi-Wan knew that…... and his mother. Since the child's death and his break up from Padmè, he has seen her only once.

The republic was much better off without Palpatine, you could say the galaxy went thrught a renaissance in the economy as well as in all areas of social life. More events took place, both privately and organized or sponsored by the government. For every occasion to celebrate the republic there was a gala or a huge party. Senators and all other important public persons were present, Jedis were a matter of course, they were the elite.
The death of Palpatin was not celebrated, but the day the republic was rescued and the savior himself, Master Anakin Skywalker, could not be absent from this Senate's event. It was celebrated in the large event hall of the Senate. There were three rows of tables around a circular dance floor. The seating was not mixed, so Anakin was sitting with the Jedis and Padmé with her fellow senators.

After an opulent dinner the mood relaxed and the first waltz of the evening belonged to the guest of honor, Master Anakin Skywalker. He didn' t want to ask his wife for the dance. She had sent him away years ago, saying he shouldn't come back. He didn't want to be turned away. He got up, went to Senator Paulness' table, and asked his pretty young daughter for the first waltz. Confirmation that Padmé still loved Anakin was in her terrible pain of jealousy. She thought she have to get up and go out, because she thought she couldn't stop the tears, but forced herself to stay seated with the last of her strength.
Only Obi-Wan and Adi Gallia saw Anakin talking to the girl and laughing, but his eyes were without expression, hollow gaze. Anakin danced two more times that evening, both times with Adi Gallia. He sat with his back to the table where Padmé was sitting, on purpose.
Padmé didn't dance at all that evening. She had lost her desire for entertainment and enjoyment at the event. She went home early. That evening she cried herself into the sleep.

.
…two months later…..

.

As the months passed, the chance of meeting Anakin anywhere was slim. Padmé thought she should stop thinking about him, he doesn't want her anymore, but she sent him away, what does she want now? That he comes and asks her forgiveness? He won't do that, definitely not.
She met Scipio's senator, Rush Clovis. A very attractive man, very ambitious, far too much. They dated a few times and he urged her more and more to more. Too quickly to make the same mistake as Anakin, no. Besides, she felt ... nothing.

They had dinner one evening in one of the best restaurants on Coruscant, *Mandalorian*. They had the table by the window, actually she was watching the lively Coruscant traffic more than her companion. They talked and laughed and then… she saw Anakin. He was in the company of Master Adi Gallia. Was there anything more between them ? She remembered that he danced with her twice on the evening of the last event. Well, the meeting was inevitable, the Jedis had to pass their table. Anakin and Adi Gallia stopped, bowed as per protocol.

"Good evening Senator Amidala." Said Anakin

She replied.

"Good evening ...and if I'm not mistaken… Senator Clovis."

"Good evening. Yes, that's right Master Skywalker, I am. "

"Do you prefer married women, Senator ?"

"Excuse me ?"

For Clovis it was the surprise of the evening. Padmé had to counter immediately.

"Do you prefer married men, Master Gallia?"

"Definitely not Senator. Master Skywalker is your husband to whom you promised yourself befor the Gods and the whole galaxy "

"Padmé, what does it mean? You're married? With Anakin Skywalker? "

"Yes I am."

"You don't do that to me, Padmé. Sorry."

Rush Clovis got up and left. Padme remained seated, close to tears. Anakin and Adi Galia bowed and went to their table.

"You were pretty rude, Anakin. I know your story, now not in detail, but it seems as if you want to hurt each other on purpose and as much as possible. What did she do so bad to you? "

"She accused me of being to blame for the death of our child, sent me away, I should never come back, the marriage would be over."

"Anakin, with as much pain as you two had in at that moment, it's no wonder that such evil words were uttered. If partners are not able to mourn together, but each mourns alone, the marriage will certainly fall apart. But maybe it's not too late after all. There will be this negotiation with the Hutts on Alderaan next month. Padmé is also among the delegates. I have orders to accompany, maybe we can swap. This is the opportunity to see her every day and there would surely be an opportunity for you to speak out ... now that some time has passed. What do you think about it?"

"I do not know. She will definitely not want that. "

"If you agree, I invite her to take dinner with us."

Anakin nodded and Adi got up and went to Padmé who was sitting alone now.

"Senator, I would like to invite you to join us."

"I don't know if that's wise."

"I have a proposal to make and we will not quarrel."

Padmé hesitated, but then gave in, got up and followed Master Gallia. Arrived at the table she stopped, Anakin got up:

"Senator"

... and pulled the chair so she could sit down. At first there was silence, for a few long seconds.

"Nice that you have decided to eat with us."

She smiled sheepishly and felt like a schoolgirl on a first date, funny, she sat next to her husband with whom she once had a child. Everyone looked at the menu, they made up their minds and ordered, the flower wine from Naboo came straight away. The glasses were filled and they toasted each other. Master Gallia said:

"To you both."

"That is tendentious Master Gallia." Said Padmé

"How come it? In front of me are two people who love each other, who couldn't talk to each other because of their painful loss, couldn't share their grief, hurt each other verbally and fell apart. Did I forgot something? So, we're going to eat now and then I'll leave you alone for a while. Perhaps one or the other sentence will come up that could help clarify the situation. Cheers"

Padmé and Anakin looked at each other, expectantly.

"Anakin is coming with to the negotiations on Alderaan, not me."

"How come it?"

" Order exchange. "

"Is it that easy?"

"Yes ... in this case," said Adi Gallia.

The food came, delicious food. The delicacies were eaten down to the last crumb. As always, the flower wine was intoxicating. After dessert, Adi Gallia said goodbye and left.

"Anakin."…. "Padmé" she said at the same time as Anakin.

"You first, Padmé."

"OK. Anakin, I'm sorry, I can't tell you how much. I should never have said all these terrible things. I was so desperate and so lonely, I felt left alone. Of course, you are not to blame for the child's death. Can you forgive me for any of this? "

"You hurt me a lot, Padmé. I've lived like in trance for the last two years, I have no feelings, I just function ... automatically ... and because of the child we lost, I've lost the will to live. I didn't see it, I don't even know what it was. "

"It was a boy. I wanted to give him the name Anakin Junior, but only a shooting star is engraved on the grave slab. "

The tears ran down her face. He didn't want to wipe the tear away, he didn't want to touch her, he was afraid something would stir again. He thought that he had just found his peace. She saw that he was in a mood in which she had never seen him before. Deep sadness and seclusion.
After the last glass of wine, Anakin paid the bill and they went out.

"I'll take you home."

"I accept the offer, thank you."

There was no talk during the flight. He docked on the porch, jumped out, and helped her get out.

"Would you like to come in?" She hoped with the question

"No, it's getting late. Good night, Senator. " he bowed

He waited for her to enter code and go inside, then he got into his speeder and flew away.

She really hoped he'd come in, but he kept her on distance again…..and that…Senator. It hurt so much. She wanted to try to win him back. She made mistakes, she saw these mistakes now, terrible mistakes, but he showed no interest. Nor did he tell her that he wanted to forgive her, just that she had hurt him. Yes, she did. He was also so sad the whole time, his once so beautiful blue eyes were without shine, his gaze was holow. What did she done to him? She'll have to try, but she won't see him for a month. She thought she had to come up with a strategy, she wanted her husband back.

After a week she called Master Adi Gallia and asked if she had seen Anakin, if Anakin said anything. None of that. Adi Gallia only said Anakin would work a lot in the Jedi library and be busy training the youngsters. That would have been his main duty in the last year. Padmé thought the once restless Jedi devoted himself to training the youth. Work in the Jedi Library? That means mainly staying in the Temple, no missions, or only a few ... like the one after Alderaan. She will still be able to wait for this mission.

The Time passed so slowly and it's always like that when you're waiting for something.
