Leinei groans as she stretches her arms above her head, leaning to the right and feeling her back crack before straightening out. Training with Shinso and Aizawa had been productive enough, with her getting to try out both of the new ultimates she had been working on. One was better than the other, the latter needing a little bit more work before being implemented in the field.
"Just because you have your provisional license now doesn't mean you can slack off on your training," Aizawa had told her as she and Shinso had started the lesson off with some light sparring and she got her ass kicked.
I just gotta work on it some more. I must still be off my game from the fight with Seiji.
Something hadn't felt right with her since then, like something had a hold on her body that she didn't recognize. She doesn't even know how she lost control the way she did, so ready to kill him and prove him right about everything.
I don't even want to think about what would have happened if Katsu and the others hadn't been there.
As she heads up the path leading back to the dorms, she sees a spiky indigo haired boy in the UA uniform, hiding behind a tree. Or rather, with his head pressed against the trunk of the tree as he mumbles to himself.
"-why I had to come," he mumbles, barely audible as Leinei gets close enough to make out what he's saying. "He could have done this on his own. Why do I have to be here? I can't even imagine them as potatoes…"
Potatoes?
"I'm sorry, can I help you?" Leinei asks, having come up behind him. He flinches, a shudder running through his body as he doesn't turn around. "Why are you spying on our dorms?"
"Oh god she doesn't sound like a potato."
"What exactly does a potato sound..never mind. Who are you?"
He doesn't say anything. She moves closer, moving around on his side to get a peek at his face. She catches a glimpse of his pointed ears and the bangs hiding his eyes. She pokes his shoulder and he cringes away, shifting around the tree away from her.
"You go to school here right?" she asks, tilting her head. "You have to be in one of the other classes, I've never seen you before."
"I-I…"
"I'm Leinei. Salinsa, if that helps," she says gently, softening her tone as if she's talking to a child. He lets out a soft whimper, tilting his head further down with his bangs shadowing his face. "I'm in 1A."
"I-I know…I'm a th-third year."
"A third year?" she says, surprised. "Wow. What class are you in?"
"...A…"
"I-I'm sorry, it sounded like you said you were in class A."
"...Bye."
He turns and walks away quickly, his head down and his hands in his pockets with his shoulders slumped inwards. Leinei blinks fast in confusion, tilting her head as she watches the male walk away from her. After a few seconds, she shakes her head and jogs the rest of the way to the dorm, taking the steps two at a time as Izuku comes out with the trash bags.
"Hey, Izu! Do you need any help with those?" she asks, holding the door for him as he struggles a bit. He laughs and shakes his head.
"Nah, this is my punishment! I got it! Even if I have to make three trips, I'll get it done."
"Alright. Lemme know if you need help."
"Thank you, Salinsa!"
She nods and waits until he's down the stairs before walking inside and letting the door close. Walking into the kitchen to grab a water bottle, Mina comes over and hugs her arm, grinning.
"How was your extra lessons?" she asks, tilting her head. "Looks like you got a pretty nasty bruise!"
"It was fine," she replies dismissively, twisting the cap off the bottle and taking a long drink. She keeps the opening of the bottle against her bottom lip, the interaction with the third year still bugging her. "I saw the weirdest person outside. Wearing our uniform, but I've never seen him before."
"Really?" Eijirou says, popping up from the couch in the sitting area directly outside the kitchen space. "What year was he? Did he say?"
"A third year in the hero course. But the way he was acting was the complete opposite of the way you'd expect someone in that class to be. It sounded like he was waiting on someone too."
"Who knows," Denki sighs, waving his hand. "Ooh, what should we make for dinner tonight?"
"Spaghetti and meatballs sounds really good," Yaoyorozu remarks, smiling brightly. "I've been wanting to brush up on my cooking!"
As she mentions meatballs, Eijirou and Denki's faces turn pale, the latter's stomach starting to turn as he remembers Seiji's quirk. He gets up quickly and runs upstairs to his room, his hand over his mouth. An awkward silence comes over the room as everyone looks between the now gone blond and the dark haired girl.
"Oh…I guess he isn't a fan of Italian food…" she murmurs, saddened by his reaction. "I suppose we could have something else."
The next day, Izuku is finally back in class, his house arrest over after a few days. It saddened Leinei that Katsuki wasn't back yet, the energy seemingly too calm without him there. Besides, talking to Denki can be very tiring and Mineta had tried more than once to "convince" to leave Katsuki for a "real man".
"Now that our class is in full attendance once more," Aizawa says, getting the class to perk up and listen. "I have discussed the Work Study Program before, as well as the assembly we had on it prior to the provisional exams, but I think it's better if students who have actually participated in the program come to speak with you and give you a first hand run down." He looks at the door. "Alright you three, you can come in now.
'These are the UA Big Three," he announces as the door opens and two males and a female walk in, the taller male and female all smiles while the shorter male is hunched over. "Go on, introduce yourselves. Starting with Amajiki."
It's quiet for an extended beat, a low groan coming from the hunched over male. The female with periwinkle hair pokes his arm, tilting her head. The class begins to murmur amongst themselves, commenting on the concentrated stare coming from the boy.
"C'mon, say something," she says, trying to encourage him.
"...no good…Even if I imagine them as potatoes…I can still see their human bodies…"
Potatoes?
Hey wait a minute…Holy crap that guy-he wasn't lying.
"I wanna go home," he announces, turning to face the wall and pressing his head against it. The girl laughs and tugs his shirt sleeve, trying to ease him back out.
"C'mon Amajiki, you have to have the heart of a lion, not a kitten," she teases before facing the class again with her hands clasped behind her back. "Well, that was our kitten Tamaki Amajiki. He's actually pretty cool under all that social anxiety. My name's Nejire Hado! It's a pleasure to meet you all! Hmm.." She purses her lips and tilts her head as she studies the class, then grinning.
"Why are you wearing that mask? Are you sick?
'And you're Todoroki right? How did you get that scar? Quirk mess up?
'Oh, Ashido, if your horns break, can you grow new ones?
'Mineta, are those actually balls on your head or do you just gel your hair that way?
'Asui, you're a tree frog right? I hope so, toads are really gross!"
"Hado," Aizawa says, warning a growl to get her under control. She waves her hand at him, smiling.
"Right right!" she laughs. "I'm supposed to talk about the work study program! It's really cool and you're going to have so much fun during them! I definitely learned a lot! Oh, and Ojirou, can your tail support your entire weight or what? Come on, show me!"
"Hey!" The tall blond male announces, putting his fist in the air to get the students' attention to him.
Well..they're definitely weird…He reminds me of Keigo at least.
The thought makes Leinei smile as he cracks the very odd joke of the future being dark. It made her brow knit together as she tried to figure out what it meant, as did her classmates. After a few seconds, he laughs, tilting his head as he rubs the back of his neck. Yeah…definitely Keigo vibes…
"I guess the joke didn't land," he remarks. "Oh, my name is Mirio Togata. I suppose it's pretty weird that the three of us pretty much hijacked your class to talk about a completely voluntary program, huh? You all look pretty not so energetic but I've heard such good and crazy things about your class! Hmm…soo, I guess the issue is, you're not pumped up enough! That's why my humor went over your heads!"
No..try it didn't make sense…
And yet somehow, Aizawa condoned the entirety of the class to fight the single upperclassman. Leinei stretches her arm across her chest one way then does the other the opposite way. She glances over at the others, who were eyeing the stretching third year.
"He can't be serious, right?" Sero asks, tilting his head. "I mean, are all of us against him? He has to know that it can't be good for him.."
"Truly," Tokoyami agrees, nodding as he crosses his arms across his chest. "Not that we need a handicap however."
"Yeah!" Eijirou continues, smashing his fists together. "We've fought legit villains and worse. I think we got this!"
"Oh wow, yeah I heard about that," Mirio laughs, bringing his arms across his chest and bouncing to each foot. "Okay! Who wants to go first!"
He's letting us take turns? What happened to all of us attacking at once?
Leinei glances around at her classmates, chewing the inside of her cheek. Everyone hesitates at first, glancing around at each other. If Katsu were here, he might've been charging in already. I should go see him after class today. Maybe I can bring him Mr. Spokes and bug him with that voice he hates.
"I'll go," Eijirou announces, only to be cut off by Izuku taking the first blow. He stretches, seemingly lost in his own thoughts before the green lightning crackles over his skin. Eijirou pouts, grumbling under his breath about stolen thunder as Izuku lunges towards the male, who's shirt slips off as the green haired boy's foot seemingly passes through his head. After that, he giggles and drops into the ground, disappearing.
"Where did he go?" Hanta says, looking around as the other students take a tentative step away from each other. "Fuck, can he warp or something?"
"I think it's like teleportation," Mina says, only for everyone to turn towards Jirou screaming in the back. Within seconds, half of the hero course's Class A is incapcitated in some way, on the ground either tied up or just dazed.
"Holy crap," Eijirou says, taking a step back. "He's..he's a monster. He has to be like Todoroki with two quirks!"
Mirio laughs as he lowers himself, leaning forward as the close quarters students ready themselves. Leinei takes a breath as she tries to tune himself to his emotions, trying to make sure she can at least track him when he disappears. If I can time my quirk just right, I should be able to incapacitate him long enough for Izu and the others to land a solid hit on him…
Use Apathy Wave. That'll definitely get the job done. So long as he doesn't freak out afterwards.
"He doesn't have two quirks," Izuku assures. "We just have to be careful how we proceed. Watch his movements!"
"Easier said than done!" Sato groans as the blond disappears into the ground again. The moment before he disappears, his emotional signature blinks out, surprising and terrifying the purple haired girl. Nejire is giggling in the background, Izuku turning on his heel just as Mirio pops back up, sending his fist through the younger boy's face and shocking him into trying to dodge.
Now!
Leinei activates her quirk just as he goes to get back into the ground, only for him to not be phased at all. It takes her back a bit, surprised by the grin he gives as he pops out of the ground one more time, bouncing between each of the close quarters kids with a fist to their stomachs.
Oh god that fucking hurts…
"So I found something fun out about my quirk today," Leinei tells Katsuki as she lays on his bed, messing with his pillow as he leans back in his chair. He raises an eyebrow at her statement, nodding his head. "Doesn't work if the person can't see. I didn't know that before."
"So if your quirk ever goes haywire again, we can shove you in a group of blind people and you'd be good?" he jokes, only to have her throw his pillow at him. "What? It's a good suggestion, you brat."
"You're the only one being a brat," she retorts, sticking her tongue out at him and laughing as he throws the pillow back at her. His chair creaks and the bed dips as he switches spots, leaning forward on his fists to smile at her. She smiles back and cups his cheek. "I missed you."
"You could have come and visited me at any point," he points out, but leans his cheek into her touch.
"Aizawa told me not to. But he said tonight was okay since you're coming back to class tomorrow. Do you have that letter written out?"
"One more page to go," he assures, nodding. "But I can take a small break for you," he adds on, softening his voice as he places a gentle kiss on her cheek. "I missed you too, Short Stack."
"Yeah? You don't wanna hear all about the three strongest students in the school?" she asks, wrapping her arms around his neck as he shakes his head and places another kiss on her cheek, sneaking his lips closer to hers. "Why not?"
"Because two of the strongest are in this room right now, so why do I need to hear about some loser extras?" he murmurs, running his nose along hers. "And if that dumbass ever puts his fucking hands on you again, I'll blow them off," he adds, kissing the corner of her lips. "No one hurts my girl."
Her heart skips hearing him say that, the blush coming to her cheeks at how close his lips were to hers. He smirks at her despite his own quick breathing and his heart pounding in his chest, bringing one hand over to brush his fingers against her cheek.
"Can I kiss you?" he asks softly.
Before she can answer, there's a knock at the door. He drops his head, groaning as he brushes his cheek against hers and sits back so she can prop herself up on her elbows so it totally doesn't look like they were just doing what they were doing. There's another knock as Katsuki runs his fingers through his hair and gets off the bed, yelling at whoever was on the other side of the wall to stop knocking before he blows their arms off.
"Sorry, Bakubro!" Eijirou laughs as he opens the door, rubbing the back of his head. "Ah, Aizawa wanted me to get Lei since Amajiki wanted to talk to us. I pulled a Kaminari and interrupted you guys, huh?"
"Can't interrupt something that didn't begin," he grumbles as Leinei gets up and runs her fingers through her hair. She kisses his cheek, squeezing his arm. "Come back after you guys are done?"
"Yeah, hopefully it's good news. Maybe dinner will be done after too, and we can eat up here and talk," she suggests. "Or outside. Whatever you want."
"I'll get that last page finished and turned into Aizawa while you're gone so I can hopefully get off my punishment sooner. See you in a few, Lei," he murmurs, giving her a tight one armed hug and kissing her head.
"See you in a few, Katsu," she says with a smile, kissing his cheek before walking with Eijirou. "So…Amajiki was the awkward anxious one that talked about Togata like they were together right?"
"I think so," he replies, scratching his cheek. "Think it's about the work study thing?"
"Probably. Why else would they call both of us?"
"I wonder what agency he works for!"
Reina stares at her phone, biting her thumbnail as she tries to debate if she should call Leinei. The apartment was a mess again, especially since Atsuhiro hadn't come over in a while to give her a reason to clean. Work had gotten busy for him, and they'd barely talked, which is understandable. She was trying to get the appropriate paperwork filed and done for Starlite to take work studies, if anyone wanted to do so, though she doubted anyone from UA would want to, following her and her sister's falling out.
After a few more minutes of debating, and maybe one or two glasses of whiskey, she finally gets the nerve up to call her sister. She keeps the phone on speaker, bouncing her knee as she lets it ring once, twice, three times-
"Yes Reina?"
"Hey, Lei," she greets, relieved she answered and picked her phone up to lean back into the couch. "How are classes going?"
"They're fine."
"You have your provisional license now! That must be exciting! The Commission would have issued you one-"
"I passed with a ninety-four," Leinei replies irritably. "Believe it or not, I'm actually capable of doing stuff on my own."
"I-I never said you weren't. I was just saying, if you had talked to them, they would have given you one with just a written test-"
"Textbook knowledge isn't always the same as applicable knowledge. They wanted to see how we worked in the field, and most of my class excelled."
"Most? Who didn't?" she asks, confused. "Did Kaminari fail?"
"Actually, Denks passed. Shochan and Katsu failed. Shochan got into a fight with a fellow hero during the disaster zone portion, and Katsu was too abrasive."
"Shoto failed? Enji can't like that…"
"I have no clue. Shochan hasn't exactly been the most talkative about it."
"I bet. Oh, speaking of Shoto, I started going back over to the Todoroki estate. Did you know Fuyumi is a teacher? And Natsuo is in college to be a doctor?"
"No, I didn't know that." Leinei sounded genuinely curious now, which made Reina happy. We're getting somewhere! "How are they doing? I haven't seen them since before we moved into the dorms."
"Oh they're good. Natsuo lives on campus so it's just me and Fuyumi catching up. She said she has an open invitation for dinner any time, if you want to do so."
"I know. I've been meaning to go over there. Shochan told me."
"Yeah. I paid respects to Touya while I was there too. I'm sure he loves hearing all about how you grew up."
"I'm sure…why did you call, Reina? I know it wasn't to discuss dinner invitations."
"Yeah..it..it wasn't," she admits sheepishly. "Where were you planning on doing your work study, if you wanted to do it at all?"
"Fatgum offered me and Eijirou a position at his agency," Leinei replied almost immediately. "I accepted. We start Monday."
"Really? That's awesome! I think his experience would be really good for you."
"...you took that better than I thought."
"Well, Keigo told me he expressed interest in you after the assembly and such. It was only natural he'd ask you to join. I really didn't think you wanted to go to Starlite after what happened between us."
"You'd be right…why else did you call?"
"..."
"If you don't tell me, I'm going to hang up. I have homework to do and Katsu wanted to go on a run after dinner."
"I was wondering if you and Katsuki wanted to get lunch off campus with me," she says softly. "I mean, you're welcome to bring more, as many as you feel comfortable with, but I wanted to talk to you in person. Is tomorrow okay?"
"...yeah. I guess it is. I'll talk to Mr. Aizawa. Just text me where you want us to meet you."
"Of course! I'll see you tomorrow. Love you."
"...love you too."
It only took us *checks chapter list* one prologue, 2 extras, and now forty-eight chapters to introduce the big three. I hope I did them enough justice, considering we'll be seeing more of Amajiki(who I adore btw, no hate towards him please. He is best boi) than Mirio. Will Reina officially start working to repair her and Leinei's relationship? Will Kiri and Denks stop interrupting Katsuki and Lei's alone time? Who knows! I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and I can't wait to keep writing more! Thank you to the people who favorited and followed, you guys are amazing and I loves you!
