"Should we order pizza or something?" Keigo asks as Leinei sets her duffel on the couch and plops down. "I mean, there's probably food here, but…"
"You really wanna risk whatever hellscape is in that fridge?" she retorts, her voice having a slight edge and raising an eyebrow as a shudder runs through her brother's body. A smaller one hits her, the images of rotten concoctions flitting through her brain as Keigo turns on his heel and smiles sheepishly. "A pizza should be more than enough for the both of us anyway."
"Someone's grouchy," he grumbles, coming over and sitting next to her. She shrugs and angles her hips to pull her phone out, pulling up the conversation with Katsuki and sending him a message saying they had made it to the apartment. Keigo leans over, resting his chin on her shoulder as she looks at him out of the corner of her eye.
"Yes? Can I help you?"
"Just making sure you two are keeping it appropriate," he replies casually. "I already forbade you from having sex."
"And how do you know he and I haven't already? You know we sleep in the same bed on a regular basis."
"You seem to forget the feather on the back of your phone. I would know."
"Oh my god. Do you listen in-?"
"Only when I hear something I should be concerned about! I mean he sounds nice. Asking you if he can kiss you and stuff."
"Oh my fucking god. No, nope, take it back, I'm not having this demon game of telephone keep going," she gags, taking the feather that was taped on the back of her phone case off and throwing it at him. It flutters in a circle before falling on the couch. He laughs and shakes his head, ruffling her hair that was still damp from her shower.
"I'm serious, Kei, no more. I can handle myself. I barely leave school-"
"I know. I stopped listening listening after you stopped sneaking out to see Dabi," he assures her, leaning back and grabbing his own phone. "Barbeque chicken pizza sounds good?"
"As long as you get a three meat pizza for me."
"Sounds like a plan."
"Speaking of plans…" He looks up as she lets the words trail off, watching as she locks her phone and places it face down on the couch cushion. "What exactly is going to happen to me? Do I go back to the Commission-?"
"No, you're living with me," he assures, wrapping his arm around her and resting his chin on her head. "I'm already filing the paperwork with your school, which we'll give back once you go back. You can spend holidays in Kyushu with me, or you can spend them with the Bakugos, if you want. And if they'll have you of course."
"Yeah…"
"I'm not letting you go back there to live. You got two more years then you're a legal adult and you can completely move on."
"Why didn't you..?" she murmurs, not looking at him. "You could've-"
"Because I love my baby sister and I made a vow the day we met I'd protect you no matter what," he tells her. "I couldn't leave you there after everything. Didn't want ya to end up like me."
"But-"
"You're my Lei Bay. Besides," he adds, tilting his head to press his lips to her head for a moment. "Reina would have my feathers plucked if I left now. I think the pomeranians dressed in a trench coat you call a boyfriend would have them too."
"Are you really still calling him that?"
"Yup. Because that's what he is."
"He is not," she whines. "Stop being mean to him."
"Never," he cackles, throwing his head back dramatically. "I have to give him hell for as long as you two are together. Gotta make him earn his spot with you."
"We were kidnapped together. I think he earned that enough."
"Mmm, lemme think…nah."
Leinei laughs softly, shaking her head. Keigo grins and pinches her arm before the two of them quiet down. She glances at the kitchen, chewing the inside of her cheek as she half expects Reina to come out of the room with two cups of coffee and ask why the hell they were here. The thought makes her chuckle and her eyes start to burn.
"Still expecting her to be here?" he says, noticing the way her head dips. He squeezes her shoulders, resting his chin on top of her head.
"Yeah," she replies, nodding and using the side of her hand to wipe her eyes. "My first day at UA, we were putting groceries away and she hugged me. I hated it then. I miss it now."
"Hey, my hugs are just as good," he grumbles, grinding his chin into her scalp and smiling as she laughs and pushes at him. "See?"
"I know, I know…Just.."
"Yeah. Yeah, I know."
Katsu: {How's everything going?}
Leinei: {OK I guess. Kei ordered pizza and we're watching some cheesy movie Reina had.}
Leinei: {...is it bad I'd rather be at school?}
Katsu: {No clue. But you did leave Mr. Spokes. He's pretty sad.}
Katsu: {new picture message}
Leinei: {Are you actually cuddling my stuffed animal while Denks plays on his switch? I never thought you'd do that in public.}
Katsu: {Shut up. I didn't wanna leave him in your room. He'd get lonely.}
Leinei: {Right. Mr. Spokes would be lonely.}
Katsu: {Exactly. He told me so. I'm totally not projecting my emotions onto a stuffed animal to make myself feel better about you not being here during your time of grief.}
Leinei: {Well I'm very glad Mr. Spokes is so open with his emotions. Make sure he eats and gets enough sleep pretty please.}
Katsu: {Understood. Will make sure he's in bed by eight thirty like normal.}
Leinei: {And take the ice baths to help relax him before bedtime.}
Katsu: {How could I forget?}
She smiles to herself, Keigo giggling at the stupid scene playing on the TV. He glances over as Leinei continues to type on her phone, her half eaten pizza slice abandoned on the plate in her lap. He leans over and picks up his cup of soda, smirking as he feels a small sense of peace seeing her like that.
As much as I wish for her to be normal, I guess I overlook stuff like that. Seems pretty normal to me, hunched over talking to her boyfriend.
"Hey," he says, getting her attention away from her phone screen for a moment. "I love you."
"Love you too," she says before returning to her text messages.
Yep…somewhat normal.
