AN: we went past a hundred favorites! Hell yeah!
Also, sorry about the delays: during my hiatus, I eventually ended up getting sick near the end of my break. Anyways, here's chapter 9
In the last couple of chapters...
Nero jolted awake from his slumber, and then immediately regretted it as he sat up way too fast. Putting the headrush at ease and taking a look at his surroundings, Nero noticed something was off:
He was in a room unlike his own, and the weapons he kept beside him were nowhere to be seen. Once he decided to get out of the bed he was in, he heard creaking sounds as his only exit suddenly flew open.
What was behind an originally closed door was a girl not older than he was: she had dark brown hair, all while a headband with a large red bow and gold-framed goggles rested upon her head. She wore a jumper-like outfit composed of brown leather shorts and a red hoodie-like top, all embellished with gold lining and symbols
The two stared at each in surprise. Wanting that to end, Nero eventually spoke up.
"Excuse me" he began, "but can you tell me where I am and who you are? I'm afraid I'm lost"
"Oh! Right, sorry!" She suddenly perked up, snapping out of her thoughts. "My name is Amber, and as to where you are, you're In Mondstadt"
Of all the ways to go, breaking a window and bolting out of the room like a maniac wasn't exactly ideal. But who can blame him? He's still on a job and the emperor of demonkind is still running amok out there... somewhere...
Like as if he was trapped in a different passage of time, everything and everyone looked different. And as his phantom wings sprouted from his back, the young devil hunter took to the skies in order to get a better view of his surroundings: the buildings themselves gave off a rather archaic feel, doesn't help that they are surrounded by what seems to be fortress walls that acted as their barrier to the outside world. Beyond the walls was an open plain that stretched for miles on end, only the trees and mountains can be seen far beyond the horizon.
If there were any signs of a demonic invasion, it would appear to be nonexistent: there were no signs of struggles nor were any casualties, no charred flora or infrastructures, even lingering traces of demon magic were unable to be sensed by the young devil.
Strange, just how far across the world did the devil emperor send him?
Deciding to land onto the rooftop below him, Nero leaned against a nearby chimney as he began to clear his head. He was in an unfamiliar place in the world and is practically unarmed, so setting a plan of action would be rather difficult given the limited amount of resources he currently has.
"I'm not really the kind to do this but..." Nero sighed, "God, I could really use a weapon right about now..."
He then heard the clinking sounds of the rooftop's ceramic tiles as the young devil hunter realized that he was no longer alone: as he glanced behind himself, he saw a familiar girl in red cautiously approaching him.
"God, I asked for a weapon, not a woman..." Nero clicked his tongue, before finally deciding to turn and fully face her. "So, Amber was it? You don't mind if you could point me to the direction of Redgrave City? Got a couple of idiots there waiting for me"
"Red...grave?" Her brows furrowed, "I've never heard of such a city before in Teyvat"
Nero's eyes widened at the last words: "did you say 'Teyvat?'" He asked, "as in, the continent Teyvat?"
"Um... yes?" She replied, puzzled
"The continent where seven elements thrive?"
"Yes..."
"By any chance, is the region of Inazuma here?"
"Yes...? I don't understand the need to ask those questions sir..."
No stranger the young devil hunter was to this particular genre, but to be sent into another world himself? Definitely not a fan, especially if his version of the truck was the demon emperor that attempted to subjugate his world for thousands of years.
But - much to his chagrin - given the information he was just given, it makes perfect sense.
"Damnit all..." he groaned, "I've just been isekai'd by that asshole..."
"Ise- what now?" Amber asked, perplexed. "Sir, are you okay?"
"Lady, listen to me when I say I'm in deep shit" Nero hastily explained, "I do not belong here. And if I don't make it back home, then everyone will-"
Before the young devil hunter could complete his train of thought, that's when he felt it: a malicious intent unlike anything he's ever felt before, like as if a great darkness was consuming the light.
It was as if he was under the mercy of the most evilest god of all time.
"Sir? Sir!" Amber attempted to snap him out of his trance, "what's going-"
"GET DOWN!" The young devil hunter exclaimed, pushing her out of the way as some sort of giant projectile decimated the building's roof, sending chunks of debris flying everywhere. Nero could hear the panicked screams of the town's inhabitants as the sudden attack took them all by surprise, those who were close to the building were unlucky as the chunks of debris came crashing down on them.
But what got their attention was something else entirely...
A great line suddenly appeared in the sky, before it suddenly tore itself open to reveal a great darkness from within. Suddenly, a small, pitch black blob came out of the darkness, crashing into the outskirts of the city.
"W-what's going on?" The girl in red stammered, reminding Nero that she was still there.
"Demons..." Nero growled, dusting himself off as he got up. Nero notices a small group of what seems to be knights mobilizing, all led by a man with navy-blue hair.
"Amber, I need you to do me a favor" he continued, turning back to the brunette. "I need you to make sure that nobody tries to get out while the demons are still here, I'll be taking care of them until they're completely gone"
"On your own?! Sir, that's-"
"We're still strangers but I need you to trust me for everyone's safety" the young devil hunter said, "I've handled these guys before, so I'll be fine"
Hesitantly, the brunette nodded, watching as the white-haired man run after the group of knights heading towards the entrance.
If he was right about all of this, hopefully she didn't make a bad decision...
Nero ran in pursuit of the group of knights, hoping to find the city's entryway where the demons would eventually overrun it. As he got closer and closer to the group of knights, he quickly went for one of their scabbards only to pull out a silver sword: not the type of sword he's used to, but the quality is good enough so might as well.
"Sorry, blue!" He exclaimed, vaulting over the blue-haired man leading the group. He felt the man lose his footing as Nero propelled himself above him as he fell down with a thud, hopefully that'll buy him some time.
"Sir! You can't go outside of the city while that thing's still out there!" A voice called out to him, presumably belonging to the captain of the group. Nero decided to just ignore his warnings and pressed onwards to the entrance.
With a silver sword in hand, and his grit, Nero rushed towards until he came face to face with the strange blob that fell from the rift: it turns out that the strange blob was just a shadowy coat, following the appearance of a wicked scythe as what seems to be a hell vanguard turned to face him.
In a normal scenario and not a world-ending one, they often look like an overgrown grim reaper.
"Woah! Didn't know a costume party was nearby!" Nero snarked, "don't I feel a little underdressed..."
The Hell Vanguard suddenly emitted a powerful screech, causing dark shadows to suddenly materialize beside him as they took the form of the seven hells.
This is a hell vanguard right? He's never heard or seen this specific demon summoning other demons...
"Strength in numbers are not gonna save you from me!" Nero declared, charging towards the vanguard and its seven hells: Nero charged after pride and swung his sword rightwards, only for the demon to successfully block his blade as lust suddenly dashed towards him with frightening speed.
These demons were not like the ordinary demons he'd face before: covering each other's weaknesses with their strengths, and strong enough to not even be staggered while blocking the young devil hunter's attacks. Greed was making the situation even worse, as it began summoning more demons in the vanguard's stead.
No doubt about it, the emperor himself was empowering his armies. Nero needed to think before he eventually gets overwhelmed, but how was he supposed to- aha!
He suddenly threw the silver sword towards Greed, only for it to be intercepted by sloth as it teleported to its direction. But what it didn't know was that Nero charged alongside the sword as he jumped onto sloth's head as he propelled himself towards Greed: as he ripped the giant coffin out of greed's grip, he slammed it onto the demon's body until he heard its bonelike structure break.
He suddenly went after envy and gluttony , whose bile and sand blasts respectively was poorly ineffective against the giant coffinlike object that Nero was currently using equivalent to a giant bat. Once he took those demons down, he ends up the teleporting hell sloth, and the speedy hell lust: to say the least they weren't easy, but he eventually took them down.
"Alright asshole" he said, facing the Hell Vanguard. "You're nex-"
A loud boom was heard as Nero was suddenly hit by an explosion, he didn't realized he had forgotten about wrath until it blew up - quite literally - on his face. He quickly rolled out of the way as he felt the gaze of the Hell Vanguard, who was just seconds away from spitting his head open with its scythe.
"If I wanted a wake-up call, I would've just gotten an alarm clock" he quipped, before charging towards the demon with sword in hand: the demon may have gotten stronger, but its attacks were rather slow and cumbersome, giving him a large opening as he plunged the sword into its chest before swinging upwards to its head.
Just like that, it was finally over, but it didn't truly feel like victory. Until Nero could close the rift, the battle was far from over.
And then a giant obsidian hand, came down with the intent to crush the young devil hunter. Nero nimbly rolled out the hands way, but was nearly blown away by the impact.
"Bastard, I didn't consent!" He yelled at the rift, before a red glow could be seen taking the shape of a four-pointed star: a large, obsidian black creature suddenly emerged from rift, big enough to make Goliath look smaller in comparison.
"Sparda..." it spoke, almost robotic like as the glowing star - presumably its eye - face Nero.
This battle was truly far from over.
AN: looking back, this fanfic was originally made just because I found a YouTube comment saying that he found Nero's mom in a genshin video funny. And now I'm writing somewhat seriously instead of being a crackfic like I originally intended to.
Anyways, as you saw at the end of the chapter, I am experimenting by writing my own "boss demons" for the fanfics. The first demon bossfight is going to probably be shadow of the colossus and metal gear rising-esque, tell me if you guys want me to make more or not because I get the feeling that someone may not like me making my own bossfights and would maybe want me to reuse old bosses instead.
