A/N: Thank you to everyone who left a review on the last chapter. Sorry for the lack of updates, It's been busy and I've had a bit of a writer's block but I finally managed to write something that makes sense.

Sleep didn't come easily to Adam because his mind kept replaying their argument over and over in his head. It was stupid and he knew it and if he had to grovel on both knees he would. He pulled his phone and sent Kim a quick text before closing his eyes, hoping that sleep would finally come. He turned all night and woke up tired but with determination going through his body. Every inch of his body was hurting as he got out of bed and he headed for a much-needed shower. He was thinking of everything that he would say to Kim when he saw her but whatever it was, he was going to make sure that she knew how he felt.

Anger coursed through Kim when she made it back from Adam's. She couldn't believe he was being such an ass. Of course, she didn't know what it felt like to be injured like he was and ask for help, but she wasn't going to stand there and let him treat her the way he had at his place. She banged the door shut and cursed under her breath. She had been excited to spend some time with him when she got back home but she didn't think that it would end up like that. She slipped into the shower and let the water cascade down her back. Adam had made her feel good for the first time in a long time and she hated the idea of being on the other end of the argument, but she was holding onto principles. She changed into a pair of shorts and slipped a t-shirt over her head before heading to bed. She was tired from the flights and fighting with Adam had killed the rest of her energy.

When she woke up, her hair was still a bit damp, and she made herself a cup of tea before sitting on the chair on her balcony. The air was a bit chilly this early in the morning, so she had a blanket draped around her shoulders, enjoying the quiet morning, the sun peaking from the horizon. The rising sun and sunsets calmed her and right now, all her mind was doing was giving her images of Adam sitting in the exact same chair she was in, feet raised against the railing and her body tucked into his on his lap. Her head was resting on his shoulder and his hand was rubbing slow circles against her beck. Quiet moments with him were what she lived for and while she couldn't be with him until he did something about his situation, she was content to love in that fantasy. Knocking pulled her out of her stater of daydream and she padded towards the door, leaving her cup on the living room table as she went. She was surprised to find Adam on the other side of the door. They stayed like that, looking at each other until Adam spoke.

"Can we talk?" Kim could see he was uncomfortable, his body swaying lightly to avoid standing in the same spot for too long.

"If you're going to blow up like you did last night, no." Both her feet were planted firmly on the ground, her hands tightening the blanket around herself as if she was using to protect herself from him.

"I'm good, but there's some things that I need to get out in the open, that I need you to understand." His voice was level, devoid of the kind of anger she had heard laced in it the night before

"Come in." She moved aside to let him and closed the door behind him. "Do you want some coffee?"

"You don't have to." He began. "Sure, thanks." He watched her move into her kitchen and start a fresh pot of coffee.

"Alright, I'm listening."

"Can we maybe." He looked towards the living room. "I thought we could get more comfortable on the couch to talk?"

"Why don't you go sit, I can see that you're uncomfortable standing?"

"I'm okay." It was hurting yes, but he deserved every bit of it after what he saw in her eyes the night before. "I'll wait for you." The machine finished making the brew and Kim poured them a cup each before handing Adam one and making her way towards the couch. She tucked her legs under herself and placed a hand on the back of the couch. Adam took the opposite end of the couch and took a sip of the hot liquid before setting it on the table next to Kim's cold cup of tea.

"Listen Adam, about last night." She started but he turned slightly so he could face her.

"There's no excuse for the way I treated you, Kim. Not yesterday, not ever."

"Then why did you?"

"Because I don't know how to do this." He breathed out. "Before you, there wasn't anyone serious." He took a deep breath, ready to tell her his story. "I knew early on that I wanted to be a cop. I looked up to my dad like you have no idea and being on the force was the only thing that drove me for years. When I made it to the academy, I was dating a girl. It was serious between the two of us for a while but as years went and I started doing the work, started climbing up, our relationship changed. When I made detective, she started freaking out after every little injury. We would get into constant arguments over it so I started hiding everything that happened on the job and that's part of the reason that we couldn't work."

"You do a dangerous job Adam." She simply said as an explanation.

"I know, I do. I was content to just do the work and I would have flings here and there, nothing very serious I just decided to concentrate on doing the job, leaving personal relationships on the back burner."

"That's not a way to live a life, Adam."

"I know that, but I didn't need a romantic relationship. I had Kevin, my dad, my sister and her family, I didn't need anything else. I didn't know I needed anything else until I met you." He raised his arm on the back of the couch and ran his thumb against her knuckles. "You came unexpectedly on that plane. And then Candice said that you were single. She knew that there was something there before I did, she knew you, wanted you to be happy, but I know that my job comes with dangerous situations and I don't want you to feel trapped or unhappy and I don't want to be the guy who yells at you when I don't know how to deal with stuff."

"Then don't Adam." She linked her fingers with his. "I know that you're not used to doing this job with someone else by your side, but you have to learn to trust me."

"I do trust you Kim, I'm just not sure I trust myself not to screw it up and throw it to hell."

"How about you start by letting me help you now?"

"If you'll still have me that is." He said sheepishly. He felt vulnerable for one of the few times in his life with her and if this was going to keep going, god knew he wanted it to, it would be on her terms.

"Of course, I'll still have you." She shuffled closer to him and placed a hand on his cheek, pressing her lips to his. He sighed into the kiss when she deepened it and moved so she could straddle him, his hands coming to rest against her hips as they kissed.

"I missed you last night." He whispered as they parted.

"So did I." She pressed her forehead against his. "Any plans for today?"

"Pain pills and my couch, you?

"Nothing, want some company?"

"I always want your company."

"Let me just shower and change and we can go back to your place."

"Meet me there, I'll fix us some breakfast."

"Are you sure you should be standing with your ribs hurting like that." She could see that he was uncomfortable sitting but the pressure he was applying to her hips made her understand that he didn't want her to move.

"Think so. Text me when you leave maybe?"

"Sounds good." She dipped her head and kissed him. He pulled her into him as she deepened it. Adam pushed through his discomfort just so he could enjoy this time with Kim before they separated briefly. They were both out of breath when they separated, and Kim closed her eyes for a second before getting off of Adam's lap. "You should go."

"I should." He chuckled. "I'll see you in a little bit." He leaned down and kissed her again before he left. Kim slipped into a shower and started getting ready.

Adam made it back home and went directly for the pain pills. The pain had flared up since waking up and if wanted to enjoy his time with Kim, he needed it to go down. He made himself a coffee and started making the food when he knew Kim was on her way to his place. He cooked with a smile on his face. He was happy that Kim had taken him back and he was determined to try his best to become better at thinking for two. He heard the knock, the door open and he knew it was her.

"Smells good in here."

"It's a talent I have." He smiled over his shoulder. "Coffee is still hot if you want a cup."

"Second one today. You're helping feed my addiction."

"So now you admit you're addicted?"

"Never denied it." She hopped on his counter and watched him cook. She stole fruit from the bowl that was sitting on the counter next to him while he cooked the pancakes and the bacon.

"So, how is your sister doing?"

"Nicole is good. She says Zoey can't wait to see me."

"When are you seeing her?"

"After next flight. I miss them too."

"Being with family is always nice. My nephews must have grown so much since I saw them last." He put the skillet aside and made some plates and Kim helped him bring everything to the table.

"Any plan to go there to see them soon?"

"Work has been pretty busy and with this latest injury." He sighed. "I don't think my body can survive Jackson and Dylan right now." He chuckled.

"I know you told me she worries about you, the job you do. Does it ever get too much for her?"

"She texts me every other day to make sure I'm still alive and sends random pictures of the boys. On some level she's used to it since our dad is a cop too, but I think that being her baby brother makes it a bit harder for her."

"How close are you guys?"

"As close as siblings can be in two different states I suppose." If he was honest, he would love to have her closer, but her life was in New York and he saw her at every opportunity. "She'd like you." He smiled at her. "After the case in New York, I went to see her, and she already knew about you and I didn't have to say a word."

"She seems nice."

Adam took a deep breath. He needed a little bit of courage for the next part. "I know we haven't been dating all that long, but I was wondering if you would join me up in New York the next time I go up there?"

"Adam, are you sure?" She wasn't sure they were quite there yet.

"I'm sure that I love you and that I'm ready to share you with the rest of my family, if that's okay with you too?"

"Okay." She smiled at him. "Yes, I'll go to New York with you." He leaned over the table and kissed her, his heart all about ready to burst.
