Lena looked up at the monitor as she heard the alarm sound through her personal laboratory. She sighed when she noticed who the intruder was.It seemed that SuperGirl had decided to visit.She wondered if she should just come out and tell her that she knew about her alter ego Kara Danvers.Then again it wasn't completely fair for Lena to know because she sure as hell wasn't going to tell Kara about herself.

Lena's public story was that she was the bastard child of Lionel Luthor.Her mother a mistress who died and Lionel was nice enough to take her in.The real story was Lena was born in another realm. Her real mother Regina had sent her away with one of her trusted allies a woman named Bethany. Bethany was sent to the realm with the identity of a wealthy single mother.She met Lionel Luthor at a park in Metropolis while she was playing with Lena on the playground.He had been on his daily stroll and was quite taken with the woman and her obvious love of her daughter.Lionel had impulsively approached the woman and struck up a conversation.

That began a passionate romance that turned Bethany, Lionel and Lena into a happy family.He had wanted to divorce his wife and marry Bethany but because of the way Lionel's father had set up his will and the prenup that was in place if he did he would lose almost everything.Bethany understood this as she knew that Lionel was forced into the marriage by his parents and it wasn't a love match.Lionel's only requirement in the marriage was to provide an heir and after he did he and Lillian only spent time together if they had to keep up appearances.

Lionel had tried to maintain a relationship with Lex but Lillian from early on poisoned the boy against him.She spoiled Lex and gave into his every whim. Lillian put him on a pedestal and in her eyes he could do no wrong.Lillian kept Lex from Lionel and Lionel knew she did it because the woman not only wanted to spite her husband but she wanted her son's loyalty so it would be easy for Lex to take the company from him.Lionel knew that it was just a matter of time until Lillian made her move to take everything from him but she couldn't do it without Lex.There was no caveat about affairs in the prenup so if she filed for divorce then she would lose her rights to anything.

It was because of that Lionel had moved in with Bethany and Lena and the three lived as a happy family with Lena calling Lionel her father.The girl knew he wasn't but he treated her so well that she gave him the title.When she did it was one of only two times Lena saw the man cry.The second being the night Lena and Bethany were in a car crash which killed Bethany and wounded Lena.She was lucky to heal with no lasting injuries.

After Bethany's death Lionel took custody of Lena, falsify a DNA test and birth certificate claiming her his biological daughter. That was how Lena came to live with the Luthors. Known as the bastard daughter of Lionel and a mistress.Lionel nor Lena cared about the bad press and blatantly ignored the attempts by Lillian and Lex to come in-between them.They had a loving relationship with Lionel never missing out on a chance to support Lena in anyway he could.It was when Lena was thirteen that Lionel died of cancer.It was also when Lillian did everything she could to make Lena's life miserable.With no other living relatives left it was left to Lillian to finish raising the girl even though Lena was away at MIT going through her final year.Lionel had known that Lillian would try and derail Lena's future and set up stipulations in his will to protect her.Lillian had been planning on using money to get the girl to comply but was surprised when she found out that Lena was almost as wealthy as Lionel was.

Lena shook off the memories as she exited the elevator into her office.She made it to her chair just as SuperGirl landed on her office's balcony."Hello SuperGirl to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"I was just stopping by to thank you for the large donation you gave to the alien relocation fund."Kara said.

"It's no problem. Everyone is entitled to have a safe place to call home no matter if they are from this world or not."Lena told her.

"Still you didn't have to do it."Kara replied.

"You may not believe it but my father was of the belief that no person child or adult should be homeless or live in poverty.He installed those beliefs in me and regardless how much Lillian and Lex have done I have always tried to make my father proud."Lena told her.

Kara was always ashamed when she thought back to the way she had treated Lena when she first moved Luthor Corp to National City. The superhero had been blinded by the words of her cousin and sister and ignored the truth.Lena may have been a Luthor but she had never acted like Lex or Lillian.She acted like her father had from what Kara had come to realize."He seemed like he was a good man."

"He would have loved to meet you.You on the other hand would have been annoyed with all the questions he would have asked you."Lena could imagine Lionel pestering Kara any chance he got to know everything he could about the alien.

"He does sound like someone I would have liked to have known."Kara loved the way Lena seemed to soften when she talked about her father.It made her that much more attractive in Kara's mind.

"So how is National City's favorite superhero?"Lena asked changing the subject.

Kara smiled liking the way that Lena always asked about her wellbeing. Nobody not even her friends and family took an interest in how she was feeling.They usually only asked about what she could do for them.Lena was different.The entire time Kara had known the woman she had never asked for a thing it was often times that Lena was the one being asked."I'm good,how are you?"

"The same.I was wondering if you could stop by tomorrow?I have something I have been working on that I want to show you."Lena said.

"Oh what is it?"Kara was not only surprised but flattered that Lena was making something for her.Not that it was the first time.Lena had made a few things that helped make Kara's job a lot easier like better cuffs for different species and stun bullets to subdue an opponent instead of regular bullets to kill them.

"It's top secret. I can't say right now."Lena knew that her office was monitored as she found bugs in it almost every day.That didn't even cover the surveillance equipment that was always pointed at the windows.

"Got it."Kara knew that if it was top secret it was for Supergirl alone. Suddenly hearing an alarm go off Kara sadly made her way to the balcony."I have to go duty calls."

"I'll see you tomorrow."Lena said.

"Yeah, tomorrow."Kara didn't want to leave but knew if she didn't show up there would be hell to pay. It was Supergirl's duty to make sure everything was safe in National City no matter if it interrupted her own plans.

Lena walked to the balcony and watched Supergirl until she could no longer see her in the sky.She wished she had had more time with Kara but it seemed that even in her human disguise they were always interrupted.Lena knew that the people in Kara's life didn't approve of their friendship but Lena didn't care. She liked Kara. More than she probably should and as long as Kara kept visiting Lena would continue to make time for her.
