Laying in bed, Sonic opened his eyes to what he thought was a bang accompanied by a sinister chuckle. Shaking his head, he started to realize that he was in Amy's apartment, her bedroom still. Memories of the night before flooded his mind. Still a bit dazed from getting shot by a bullet, running all night, then the energetic lovemaking with his newly dubbed girlfriend; he had trouble making out his surroundings. He thought that it was daytime, but it appeared to be pitchblack outside. Figuring he slept a tremendous amount of time due to being totally exhausted, he shrugged it off. Turning his head to see Amy's nude form peacefully sleeping beside him, he also chalked up the creepy noises to a weird dream that bled into reality.
Yawning, seeing as how it was strangely dark outside, he decided to close his eyes again to get more desperately needed rest. If it was still night, he wouldn't mind sleeping until dawn. The tired hedgehog felt as if he had barely closed his eyes before he heard another malicious laugh. This time, it sounded like it was too close to be coming from outside. His eyes flew open as he swiftly leaned back up. Clearing his throat, he raised his voice in response "Who's there?!"
After a few seconds passed, he heard Amy stirring in bed next to him. He didn't want to wake her up if it was nothing. Nonetheless, her eyes opened anyway, proving that he had already awoken her. Yawning, stretching, she leaned up and the covers fell from her chest, revealing her perky bare breasts. "Nnn… Sweetie? Did you say something?"
The pink hedgehog actually looked exceedingly cute when she first woke up. However, with a bit of concern for his surroundings, he decided to inform her of what he had heard so she could be on the lookout for it. Perhaps better yet, she might even be able to give an explanation regarding what he heard. "I thought I heard an evil chuckle."
Giggling softly, she wrapped her arm around him, pulling her expert lover's body closer to hers. He could feel her warmth. It felt amazingly good. The dried musk from their sex lingered on their bodies, permeating off them. That too was strangely attractive to both of them. "You were probably dreaming. Eggman isn't anywhere near my apartment; I promise. Lay back down with me, we can sleep naked for as long as you want."
Smiling, he did as suggested and laid back down next to her, cuddling with her as she kissed his neck. "Mmm… That sounds spectacular, babe." Following a few seconds of being buried in her breasts, he had a niggling thought that bugged him until he asked. "What time is it?"
"Don't worry about the time." She replied as she sensually combed her fingers through his quills.
Blinking a few times, he glanced up to see the darkness outside. "Have you been asleep as long as I have?"
"Don't worry about that." She told him in an almost demanding tone, yet smiled as she patted his head.
Pulling away from her just enough to look at the clock on her nightstand, he found he had trouble making out the time. It wasn't that the clock was blurry, it was a digital clock with bold numbers. But, for some reason, it appeared to be displaying nonsensical symbols. "What's going on?" He asked aloud in confusion.
"Don't worry about that." Amy told him again.
Out of nowhere, the bedroom door abruptly bursted open with such force that the knob broke a hole in the wall. That same maniacal laughing filled the room as six identical versions of Dr. Robotnik came running inside, all chuckling like psychoes. "There he is!" One pointed and shouted as the others swarmed the bed. "Get him! Hold him down!"
Amy screamed from the sudden intrusion. Sonic leapt up from the bed, ready for action. He didn't have time to ponder how there could possibly be more than one Eggman. Maybe they were clones or robots built to resemble the infamous evil scientist. All he knew and all that mattered for the time being was the fact that he was being ambushed by the Eggmen. He swung at one, hitting the tub of lard in the face prior to lunging at another that was getting too close to Amy. "RUN!" He screamed to Amy as he saw her try to slip past them. "RUN, AMY!" Punching another square in the face, he felt several of them grab him, pulling him down with more strength than he had ever seen in Robotnik. "LET ME GO! GET OUT! I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU!
"Quick!" The first eggman commanded. "Hold him so I can inject him with the drug!"
"I got the girl!" Another Eggman replied as he grabbed Amy's nude body and threw it up over his shoulder, not caring in the least that she was naked or slamming her fists against him; in fact, neither appeared to have any effect on him at all.
"Hold him!" Sonic heard the first say as two of them grabbed his legs and the last two grabbed his arms, pulling on him so hard he couldn't do anything other than flail.
"AMY!" He screamed for his pink lover.
"SONIC!" She screamed back as he knew she would.
The first eggman doing all the talking came forth as he brandished a syringe that seemed to pop out of nowhere. Whatever vile concoction that was in the syringe was coloured black and had floating goop in it. Sonic kicked and screamed yet was unable to free himself from the eggmen no matter how hard he tried. Wobbling closer to him with whatever wicked brew the eggman had ready to inject, Sonic freaked out. "NO! NO! NO!"
"Hold still, you little rat." The eggman demanded as he roughly grabbed one of Sonic's quills, yanked his head to the side and then rammed the needle into his neck.
Sonic felt the needle pierce his neck so hard it was as if a vein had burst. "NOOOOOOO!" He hollered at the top of his lungs as he felt a burning sensation from their poison entering his circulatory system. "YOU FUCKING BASTARDS! RHAAAAA! I'LL KILL YOU!
"Oh, you'll do plenty of killing." One Eggman spoke as they all suddenly let go of him, letting him fall to the bed, then bounce onto the ground.
"It just won't be us." Another chuckled heartily.
Hitting the ground with a thud, he immediately tried getting back to his feet so he could carry out the fight as well as rescue his pink girlfriend. However, he instantly noticed that his body struggled to do anything he told it to do. Grabbing hold of the needle that remained in his neck, he jerked it out, tossing it to the ground as all the eggmen replicants laughed at him in perfect unison. "W-W-What Did y-you do to m-me!?" Sonic began slurring his words as he continued to try to stand.
"You are now under our total control." Several of the Eggmen spoke in monotone unison.
The Eggman who did the injecting of black goop into his neck smiled unnaturally wide while removing a German luger pistol from his pocket. At first, Sonic thought he was about to be shot again; the searing pain in his shoulder was a reminder that he already had been, so he definitely didn't want to experience it again. However, to his dismay, it turned out to be much worse. The Eggman continued to laugh like a stereotypical evil villain as he spun the gun like an old wild west quickdraw, only for him to extend it, handle facing outward, as if to relinquish the pistol over to the delirious blue hedgehog. "Please, take the pistol."
Feeling his body move on its own, he tried as hard as possible to resist. Nonetheless, whatever he had been injected with was hypnotizing him. In spite of giving it all he had to abort his movements, his muscles felt like they were gelatin. It even seemed as if, with every attempt to move away, his body did the opposite, moving forward instead. "NO! I… I refuse!" No matter what he did, his body disobeyed him, listening to the Eggman replicant instead. His fingers weakly wrapped around the handle of the gun, tightening his grip upon the cold metal steel. "Stop!" He ordered himself, his muscles bulging in resistance despite it all being completely futile. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!?"
"You are now under our complete control." The eggman repeated precisely the same as he did previously. "Please, take the pistol."
Taking the gun out of the eggman's hand, he felt his index finger automatically move onto the trigger; All the while, he kept trying to stop himself. Around him, the eggmen replicants laughed so loud that it hurt Sonic's ears. It hurt to the point it caused his ears to bleed. In the corner, the eggman who had Amy restrained placed her down on the ground, holding her throat to keep her from trying to run away. She tried to scream, but the large human hand wrapped around her tiny trachea made it where she could hardly breathe, much less use enough air to scream. He could see the sheer terror in her eyes, it made him want to use the pistol to shoot all six of the eggmen right in their foreheads. Unfortunately, even with tears running down his cheek, he was unable to make his body do anything.
"I warned you it was going to happen, Sonic." One of the Eggman said.
"You didn't believe me because you think I'm just your 'arch-nemesis'." Another picked up where the first left off. "I gave you good advice and you didn't listen."
"W-What are you talking about!?" Sonic screamed at them while shaking his head, the only thing he seemed to have control over at the moment.
Laughing even louder, their smiles stretched beyond what human faces were capable of doing, extending beyond the sides of their heads. "I told you that it was time to grow up, to leave this wretched society behind, to join me so we can eradicate those that oppose us. Together, you and I could build an empire capable of ruling the world!" The third Eggman spoke in a strangely warped voice. "You were always so worried you would get anybody that you loved killed… Now look at you… What happened? Why did you stop thinking that way? WHY DID YOU STOP PROTECTING HER!?" He pointed in Amy's direction. "Why did you give in to your urges? Was it really worth it now that you can't protect her anymore?" Snarling like a ferocious monster, all of the eggmen spoke together in perfect harmony. "Maybe we should give you a reminder to wake up? Maybe we should eliminate your new pink lover."
"DON'T YOU TOUCH HER!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, only to see a sudden bright light shine through the windows from outside, illuminating the entire room. That light obviously wasn't from the sun. The unnatural white colour seemed artificial. Looking out the windows, he could see the sky was filled with fighter planes bearing the Eggman insignia. Numerous copies of Egg Carriers dropped robotic infantry to the ground. Oddly enough, the outside world appeared to be gone, the scenery no longer existing. There weren't any buildings or even a skyline, just a plain black background with raindrops frozen in place, illuminated by gigantic lightning bolts in the distance.
It was difficult to see the Eggmen replicants now, nonetheless, the hedgehog could still hear them speaking to him in a distortedly deep voice. "We won't… You will."
"What!?" He demanded them to explain.
Bursting into more laughter, they all said. "We command you to shoot Amy Rose."
"NO! Fuck you!" He spat, only to realize that his arm was lifting on its own, obeying the orders given to him from the crazy Robotnik replicants. "N-No… No! NO! IMPOSSIBLE!" He screamed in disbelief. Even though his arm was trembling, the fact that he was beginning to take aim at all without his consent was mind boggling. His heart raced so fast it nearly beat out of his chest. "STOP IT!" He screamed at himself. "YOU CAN'T DO THIS!" Gradually lining up the iron sights on the end of the barrel with Amy's torso, he began to cry, pleading for mercy. "I'LL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO, JUST MAKE ME STOP!"
Standing off to the side, the Eggmen made way for him, letting him get a clear target of his newfound love. "We're not doing anything anymore. It's all on you now." They chortled nefariously. "Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it!" All of them started eerily chanting. "Join us! Be one of us, Sonic! Join us! Join us! Join us! Join us!"
Amy stared at him with hurt in her eyes, looking as if he'd shot her already. Just gazing at her, seeing her so immensely dejected by him, his heart was cleaved in twain, spurting with sorrow. He couldn't do it though, he knew he couldn't do it. No matter what was happening to him, in his subconscious, he knew that he would never hurt his girlfriend. Even while brainwashed, holding a gun at her naked form, he knew he had to do something to save her. Nothing around him made any sense. All he knew for sure was that he had to be stopped. If he couldn't save her from himself, he decided he had to stop himself.
"I'm sorry, Amy." He said to her with tears rolling down his cheek as his finger trembled on the trigger of the luger. "I love you so much, don't ever forget that." In the last second, right as his finger pulled the trigger, he managed to recover enough control over his arm to swing the pistol up to his own head's temple. For just a moment, he felt the cold steel of the barrel pressed against his skin. Then, a loud explosion from the bullet being propelled directly into his brain. "Goodbye…"

(Location - Station Square, Residential District, Amy's Apartment)

Waking up with a gasp, Sonic's eyes flew open as he scanned the room for the eggmen replicants that had impossibly wide grins. His heart was pounding so hard it reverberated into his ears as a thumping sound. Leaning up in the bed, he noticed that he was completely drenched with sweat and that his bandages had soaked through with blood. Nearly hyperventilating, it took him a minute to gather his composure. Thankfully, within a few seconds, reality came seeping back into his head, allowing him to realize that what he thought had just occurred was nothing more than a ghastly nightmare. There were no multiple eggmen, Station Square hadn't been invaded or destroyed and he certainly wasn't forced to shoot Amy, only to wind up shooting himself in the head instead.
Examining his gloveless hands, he gradually started calming down. For further confirmation that he hadn't hurt Amy, he looked over at her next to him in the bed. She was sleeping peacefully, with one hand on her chest and the other above her head. Her chest rose and fell with each breath she took. Still partially dazed, he lost himself in staring at her marvelous beauty. Even as she slept with the sheets barely covering her exposed breasts, she was as heavenly as an angel to him. As always, there was a single out of place quill; this time it happened to be swung up on her chin. His lover's elegant allure made him smile, despite it being a slightly anxious smile.
Laying down for a moment longer, he felt precisely how wet the bedspread was. He figured he must have been sweating buckets in order to soak the sheets so thoroughly. Turning his head to see the clock, instead of the nonsensical symbols he saw in his dream, he could quite clearly make out that it was one-fifteen in the afternoon. He hadn't slept nearly as long as he thought he had, but the agony evenly distributed throughout him probably contributed to the gnarly nightmare he just had. Observing the windows, he took note of how normal it looked, another confirmation that this was the waking world, not a twisted dream. As expected of an early afternoon, sunlight shone into the bedroom, passing by the blinds to project a pattern on the floor.
'What the hell was up with that dream?' He pondered as he wiped his forehead of dripping sweat, only to accidentally pull a muscle while doing it.
Surging with pain, he started thinking less about the dream and more about the burning ache. Checking around, he wondered where those pain pills were prior to recalling Amy giving him one in the bathroom earlier this morning. Knowing that he had to get up so that he could get them in addition to getting up to change out his bandages, he sighed. The bed felt gross from their lovemaking session plus his feverish sweat, but he didn't want to get up. Only when he felt a twinge in his side that quickly turned into a muscle spasm did he throw the sheets back in favour of getting out of bed. "Oww, Oww, Oww… Sss…" He hissed from the twinge while standing up.
Stumbling toward the bedroom door, he nearly fell over, only to catch his balance on the doorframe. Peering back at Amy, he made sure she was still peacefully asleep before leaving the room. Making his way to the bathroom, holding his side, the first thing he did was locate the medicine bottle with pain relievers in it. Grabbing the bottle, giving it a shake, he heard that there were only a few tablets left. Popping off the top of the bottle, he tapped one out into the palm of his hand, turned the sink on for a sip of water and then tossed the tablet in his mouth, swallowing it without any delay.
After he got the medicine in his system, he knew he was going to have to wait a while before it kicked in and he got the effect. For the time being, he used the bathroom, feeling a slight sting in his pee from dehydration. The running, the fighting, the injury, the sex, the sweating, none of that did anything to keep him hydrated. Flushing the toilet and washing his hands, he planned on getting a tall glass of water as soon as possible. Seeing himself in the mirror, however, he knew he had to change his bloodied bandages first. Since all the supplies Amy used were still lying out, rummaging around them, he came upon the gauze as well as fresh bandaging.
While tending to himself, he contemplated the frisky events that transpired earlier. Removing the well-used bandages, his cheeks reddened with a blush. 'Did I really have sex?' He stared at his reflection almost questioningly. 'I had sex? With Amy?' Remembering all the thrusting and the moaning, he smiled nervously. 'Oh my god, I did.'
Paying attention to the shoulder injury, peeling the sticky blood soaked gauze off the wound, he was surprised again to see that it didn't look bad for a freshly made gunshot wound. Suddenly, he also recalled her telling him that she thought he had healed much faster than normal. He wondered if that were the case seeing how there was only a small drop of blood dripping from it. There wasn't much he could tell himself regarding why he would be healing so fast, nonetheless, he was glad he was. Compared to being out of commission for weeks, nursing himself back to health, it was much easier to be up and walking around the next day. Proving his point even, it was likely how he was capable of running around town all night with a bullet stuck in his shoulder.
Dabbing away the blood with a dampened square of toilet paper, all he had to do was replace the gauze with a fresh pad. Once he was done with that, he had to bandage it in order to hold the gauze in place over the wound. He had a bit of trouble doing it by himself at first. But, before he knew it, he managed to wrap the bandage around his shoulder, against the wound and tied it tight enough to not slip off. It wasn't the first time he dealt with bandaging himself, yet, it was the first time doing it himself due to being hit by a bullet.
Feeling a bit better with fresh bandaging, he grabbed a hand towel and wiped his brow of lingering sweat. He smelled of body odor, but didn't want to shower at the moment. Hanging onto the counter, staring at himself in the mirror, he noticed the dark circles underneath his eyes that signified sleep deprivation. Sure, he had been through a lot; on the other hand, he assumed he'd been sleeping a lot still. Other than today, it seemed as if that was all he had been doing since he'd awoken from his coma. Thinking about it, he figured it had to do with the nightmare he had in addition to the wicked sweating. That couldn't have been the most restful of sleep.
To take his mind off a horrible dream that wasn't reality, only a dream, he tried thinking about the lovemaking session he had with Amy. With the water from the sink faucet still on and running, he splashed a bit up on his face to help him cool off. 'I feel so weird now.' He told himself. 'I'm not a virgin. Where's my party?' Chuckling to cheer himself up, he continued thinking. 'I always thought I'd instantly feel like an adult after having sex. Instead, I feel the same.' Smirking cockily, he thought. 'Well… Maybe I am a little proud of myself. After all, that was amazing.'
His blush intensified as he remembered their romp, vividly visualizing Amy's orgasm face, hearing her lusty moans damn near the entire time. Merely thinking about it caused his body to react by sending blood to his loins. He had to shake his head as well as splash another round of water up at his face in order to break free from the trance. Drying his face, he turned off the sink in advance of grabbing his bloodstained shoes and gloves.
Leaving the bathroom, he found he still had a bit of trouble walking. His legs did feel like gelatin, similar to the dream, but he could maneuver far better than then. To keep himself propped up, he leaned against the wall until he made it to the kitchen. Turning on the light in the kitchen, he put his shoes up on the counter. Opening several cabinets, it took him a few times to find where Amy kept her cups. Acquiring a big tall glass, exactly as he planned, he filled it with water from the refrigerator, immediately guzzling it as fast as he could. The blue hedgehog was so thirsty he drank the entire cup before refilling it, drinking half of that too. Putting the glass down, he wet a paper towel and used it to wipe the dried blood off his shoes. His gloves were another matter entirely. Using some soap from the sink, he drizzled it over both the gloves before running them under water.
Surprisingly, just about all of the blood came off, slowly swirling down the sink. Looking at it as it circled the drain, he started contemplating what occurred last night. All of the sudden, he had flickers in his memory, flashes of images, the faces of the gang members he had seen before he was forced to kill them. Tightening his grip on his gloves, he exhaled a large sigh of disappointment that he had no choice other than to end the life of anyone, no matter the fact that they were attacking him and Amy. Wringing the soapy water out of his gloves he turned the water off and grabbed more paper towels, squeezing the gloves between them as hard as he could in order to partially dry them.
For the most part, he didn't regret any of his actions, especially since they didn't give him another choice. He knew he had to kill them and didn't consider it murder because of the circumstances. However, the abrupt recollection of going so fast he flew straight through a grown human being, causing said person to literally explode into gory chunks, that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. Doing that wasn't a common scenario; in fact, he'd never done that before and never knew he was capable of such a feat. He wondered if it were perhaps because he had adrenaline going through him, nevertheless, he couldn't come to a decent conclusion on what caused him to have tiny bolts of electricity that coursed through his fur like a hyper flea. He had experienced adrenaline during previous battles and it never did that to him. Thinking deeper, his eyes moved in response to his contemplation as he realized the only thing that ever made him that fast was Chaos Emeralds, which allowed him to transform into Super Sonic.
What made the situation more confusing was the fact that he hadn't been exposed to Chaos Emeralds in a bit over a year, not since his last big adventure. Although the divine gems radiate a type of energy themselves, one that seeps into living things, going as long as he had without more exposure, it would have long since dissipated from his system by now. Considering this, he truly couldn't fathom what it was that caused such strange effects to happen to his body. In the long run, he didn't think of it as a negative occurrence, so after a while, he managed to shove it to the back of his mind.
Other than Amy, he couldn't help other than to feel as if there wasn't anything left for him in this city. Even then, no matter what Amy did for him, what those gang members did to the both of them at Twinkle Park proved that this utopia was quickly becoming a dystopia. Precisely like he had told the pink hedgehog during their time in Little Franche-Comte, it was too dangerous to be by his side, especially whenever bad people were suddenly all out to get him. A side kick like Tails was one thing, as the yellow fox was his friend, best friend even. Amy was another thing entirely. For someone who was in a relationship with him, she would always be a target, simply by proximity. Thinking about it, his horrible nightmare was likely a representation of those worries.
He sighed as he drank the rest of his water. 'I really do love her.' Hanging his head, he continued pondering what to do. 'But… I really don't want her to get hurt.'
For a split second, he envisioned what else she said at the fancy french restaurant, hearing her voice in his head as she told him that she was a big girl who could take care of herself. He wanted to believe that too. Unfortunately, he also saw the look of dread plastered on her face whenever she was being held at gunpoint by that human streetgang. The latter made him less inclined to feel sorry for causing the leader to quite literally explode. Nonetheless, his main concern was that this could be only the beginning of her troubles if she sticks around with him so religiously. She didn't get hurt this time, but he worried that she might the next time, if he had to go up against an individual stronger than him, or was just flat out ambush again. He knew in his soul that he wouldn't be capable of forgiving himself if she got injured or even worse.
'Shit…' He groaned while still stuck in mental debate. 'What am I supposed to do? I can't just leave her, I'm not an asshole. She'd hate me forever if I did that.' Tightening his grip on his drying gloves, he glanced around his surroundings as he kept thinking. 'Although… If she did hate me-… Well, that would solve a lot of my issues. If she never wanted to see me again, she wouldn't be around me when there's danger.'
Flashing through his mind once more, he recalled how serious she looked when she told him that she could take care of himself. It made him feel ashamed to be thinking this way as he also remembered how strong she was during their previous journeys. She was definitely correct in that she isn't a pushover. Nobody he has come across, not even himself is willing to go up against a truly pissed off Amy Rose. Her martial arts skills were amazing and to top it off, her signature Piko-Piko Hammer packed a deadly wallop. To say she couldn't defend herself was ignorant. Neither of them were weak, not after taking down the number of villains they both had by this point. People like Eggman were nearly the same level of threat that they had always been. On the other hand, people that once sided with him were turning their backs over a single failure. Villains generally announce themselves upon arrival and it's easy to predict when they'll show up. The regular populace? They're different. They could strike at any moment, without any warning. There wasn't much of a way he could protect her from that, not when he couldn't so much as protect himself from it.
Sliding his hands into the partially moist gloves, he cleaned up the small mess he had made prior to taking his shoes out into the living room, setting them on the coffee table. He was about to sit down when he realized he needed to get his phone as well as a fresh pair of socks. To do that, he had to return to the bedroom where Amy was sleeping since that was where his go-bag remained.
Walking back into the bedroom, he immediately peered over at Amy to see if she was still asleep. Sure enough, she was still in dreamland. She wasn't in the same position as earlier though. At some point, she had rolled over onto her stomach, exposing a view to him of her bare pink buttocks in addition to her limp tail. Her face was turned to the right as her head was buried in the pillow. He saw that same peaceful hint of a smile on her lips and it made him blush softly. Being quiet to not wake her up, he tiptoed over to his stuff on the bedside table. Rummaging around, he retrieved a fresh pair of socks as well as his phone. Done, he started to leave, but looked back at Amy. His heart throbbed as he watched her sleep. Thinking about all he had seen, seeing how beautiful she was only reminded him of what he needed to protect. Letting out a light exhale, he left the room.
Returning to the living room, he sat on the couch so he could put on the fresh pair of socks. Once he had the socks on, he took his shoes from the coffee table in order to put them on as well. Dressed enough to satisfy him, following a moment to make sure his bandage was still firmly wrapped around his shoulder, he checked his phone for messages. Same as when he had gone Missing In Action, he saw several messages from Tails and Vanilla, as well as one from Knuckles. Not needing to listen to the messages, he figured he knew what they wanted, both of them likely being worried for his safety. He appreciated both of their concerns, but it was Tails who he felt the most urge to communicate with on matters such as these.
Closing his eyes, he let thoughts drift around in his head a while before opening them to dial in Tails' phone number. It only took a couple of rings before he heard the kitsune pick up on the other end. {Sonic! Hey! What happened, dude?!} He spoke in a deeply anxious voice, worried about his best friend's erratic behaviour. {Are you alright?!}
"Yeah…" He said to ease the fox's troubled mind. "I'm beat up, but I'm okay. I take it Amy filled you in on what happened?"
{Somewhat. She told me you two were at Twinkle Park whenever you were attacked by the rest of the Concrete Junkies gang. For the most part, She's been so worried about you that she couldn't make coherent sentences for hours. But, she did manage to tell me how violent it got.} Letting out a sigh through the earpiece, Tails continued with {I'm sorry all of that happened to you. All I can say is that I'm glad both of you are okay.}
"That's better than you can say for those bangers who thought they could take me out." Sonic retorted to express how he felt in regards to the stupid humans who ruined his date last night.
{I… Uhh… I heard about that as well} Tails replied. {Was she exaggerating when she said you caused a guy to explode?}
Taking a moment to respond, he saw it all play out in his head again. He saw the final expression on the gang guy's face right before being impacted at such a high speed that his body flew apart. Just from recent memory, he could still feel the red blood soaking his blue fur or the warm wet organs splashing against him as he tore into a living being. Even his ears still felt as if they were muffled from going through a cloud of gore. Eventually, however, he snapped back to reality. "It's true… I don't know how I did it, but it's true. I think I had so much adrenaline coursing in my veins that I went faster than I usually do; that's the only valid explanation that I've come up with so far." Leaving out the part where he had actual miniature bolts of lightning discharged out the tips of his quills, he decided it wasn't worth mentioning.
{That does make sense.} Tails didn't try to pry further, accepting what was said with a calm demeanour.
Following a few seconds of silence, Sonic asked Tails "Do you mind if I come over there to the workshop, right now? I… I need to get out of here."
{You're still at Amy's apartment, right?} Tails wondered. {Is something the matter?}
Shaking his head like a dope, Sonic had to actually speak in order for the fox to know what he thought. "No…" He lied. "I just wanted to make good on my promise to come visit. Everything was hectic yesterday, so I never got around to visiting."
{You got shot in the shoulder, I don't blame you for not coming over.} Tails spoke facts in advance of trying to lighten the mood. {Besides, Amy told me about how good of an evening you two had together… before the Twinkle Park incident that is.} Although Tails laughed innocently, Sonic remained silent. It didn't take long for the fox to realize that something he had said struck a nerve in the blue blur. {Sonic? You there?}
"I'm here…" Sonic confirmed.
{Something else happened, didn't it?} Tails said as soon as he knew Sonic was still listening. {What is is?}
Leaning back against the couch, he could smell Amy's scent on it and it nearly drove him wild. "I just… I need to get away from Amy." He whispered into the phone as to not let her possibly hear him, be there a chance she had awakened.
Tails stayed silent this time prior to chuckling like a kid. {She's driving you crazy, huh?}
"N-No!" Sonic tried to clarify. "It's not that, it's really not that. She's taken very good care of me while I've been injured…" Stopping, he had to think of what to say. To be honest, he didn't know exactly how to explain the feelings inside of him. One part of him leaned towards Amy, knowing that their love for each other was genuine; however, another part wanted to distance himself again so he could protect her from the bad people always after him.
{What is it?} Tails inquired curiously.
Hurrying to make sense of his jumbled mind, Sonic made an attempt to beat around the bush on how intimate he'd been with the pink hedgehog as well as how much he loved her. "Look… Amy really does mean the world to me." He failed to make her sound 'not so special'. "I just can't let her be put in harm's way again like she was last night. What if she gets killed? No… No, I can't let that happen."
{I…} Tails stuttered. {You….. and Amy….} The adolescent genius struggled to find proper wording. {A-Amy means that much to you?}
"All of you mean that much to me!" Sonic raised his voice to prove his point prior to clasping his hand over his mouth once he realized how loud he sounded. He wasn't necessarily lying either. His intention wasn't to fool Tails, just mislead the young fox from knowing the precise extent he'd begun to love Amy. Nonetheless, he didn't want to wake her up either. Getting his voice under control, he pulled his hand away from his mouth to repeat himself. "All of you mean the world to me, Tails. Amy's just not as adept at fighting as you, Knuckles or I."
Tails blew air through the phone as he had a rebuttal. {What the fart are you talking about? Amy's deadly! Don't forget useful; after all, she's the one who stitched you up according to her text… Speaking of which, I texted her back and she never responded. What's up with that?}
Blushing, the hedgehog had a feeling it was because they fell into a deep sleep after their first experience of post-coital exhaustion. No way he could say that, however. So, he quickly generated a fib to cover both of them. "She was probably busy keeping an eye on me. I've got this bandage that had to be constantly changed until the bleeding stopped."
{Yeah, bu-...} Tails tried to delve further into details.
"I gotta get out of here before she wakes up." He interrupted his friend to try and redirect the conversation.
{So, she's sleeping?} Tails immediately found Sonic's story fishy as to why she didn't respond to him.
"Oh, yeah!" Sonic exclaimed a bit too loudly again. He smacked his hand to his forehead, both for being too loud in addition to being a numbskull for mentioning that Amy was still sleeping. "She was really tired after fixing me up and watching over me, changing my bandages and all that, etcetera, etcetera. I think she fell asleep like an hour ago or something, I don't know, I wasn't paying that much attention." Even while trying to throw away the signs that he had feelings for Amy, he only wound up clearly sounding nervous while ranting energetically. "Still… Do you hear me? I gotta get out of here so she won't get hurt if Eggman or some other jerks show up to try and kick my ass. I mean, just because she's a girl, people are going to immediately assume that she's my girlfriend and want to hurt her so they can hurt me. I don't want something like that to happen to her, who would want that? Not me, that's who… Do you?"
Tails stuttered incoherently while trying to keep up with Sonic's racing speech. {Of course I don't want that, Sonic! Amy's annoying, but she's sweet and super nice. I'd never let anything happen to her.}
Nodding vigorously, Sonic said "That's why I need to be elsewhere right now, until things cool off; with Eggman, society, the police, everybody."
{You're always welcome here, Sonic. You know that. You don't even need to call, just come on over.} Tails responded like a caring little brother. {But, I kinda got the feeling that you were starting to consider Amy as your girlfriend, so I'm surprised you just want to get up and leave her like this. I've got absolutely no experience with girls, but won't that hurt her feelings for you to disappear while she's asleep? She's going to wake up and wonder where you are.}
Hearing that Tails already had an inkling of how the two hedgehogs' relationship was advancing, he gently nibbled on his own lower lip in embarrassment. "W-What?!" The nervous blue blur exclaimed too loudly yet again. "What made you think that?!"
{Hmm?} The juvenile fox inquired {You mean you two being boyfriend and girlfriend? Well, I just assumed that was the case since you agreed to go on a date with her to eat at the most expensive restaurant in Station Square, only to then frolic in Twinkle Park like a couple afterward. That's usually what dating individuals do.}
"S-She was the one who took me out to dinner." Sonic interjected, trying to allude to it all being her idea. "I didn't even want to go to Twinkle Park. That place is for lovebirds and little kids."
{Fine, whatever you say.} Tails chuckles softly. {Like I said, you can come over here. I don't have any problem with that. But, I think you should let her know where you're going so it doesn't upset her. Don't think she won't blame me if you don't, because she will and I have no intention of losing one of my tails to her when she's furious.}
Sighing, he relented. "Okay… I'll write her a note."
{Ehh… I'd tell her in person.} Tails quipped, still hinting at being aware that the pink and blue pair were in love. {You know how that goes in most relationships.}
"Yeah, yeah, yeah…" Sonic grumbled at his friend's persistence and intellect despite being a young virgin. "Alright, let me go and I'll start making my way over there to see you as soon as I get done leaving her a note."
{Okay, Sonic. Stay safe, dude.} Tails replied prior to hanging up.
Putting away his cellphone once he said goodbye, following a brief moment to stare up at the ceiling in frustration towards all the difficult choices he had been facing, he stood up from the couch. Thinking about what to say plus how to say it, he glanced around the living room for a piece of paper, finding a notepad as well as a pen on the desk in the corner. 'I feel like such a coward. But, I have to do this.'
Clearing his throat, holding the pen to the paper, he took a second to think about what Tails said. He knew the kitsune kid was right, that he should wake Amy up and let her know where he was going. Unfortunately, he didn't think he had the courage to do such a thing. He was absolutely certain that if he tried that, she would try to stop him from leaving. He also had a feeling that he might listen to her. In the face of her convincing him how much she loves him, his resistance, no matter how good of a cause it was for, would likely falter. It was true that his feelings for her had bloomed, yet his desire to protect her had grown stronger as well.
Sniffling, his heart throbbed as he worried about hurting her feelings. Then again, he wasn't necessarily trying to break up with her. Asforementioned, he did have genuine emotions for her, also evident by the passionate sex they had earlier. It was merely his desire to protect her that made him want to pull away, to take a break until things cooled off. Writing a short yet simple message, he ripped the sheet from the pad before putting down the pad and pen. Slipping into his shoes, he brought the note into the bedroom.
On her stomach still, the peacefully sleeping pink hedgehog was letting out a gentle snore. Her ear twitched as she smiled at events unfolding in her dreams. She must have been abnormally tired too; after all, she was only getting rest at odd hours due to his own messed up sleep schedule. Tiptoeing over to the side of the bed, he placed the note on the nightstand by where he had slept, supposing that she would find it once she started trying to figure out where he went. He saw that some of his stuff was on the floor where his go-bag had been laid, but he decided to leave it there in case he was back sooner than anticipated.
Turning to leave, he wanted to get out of there without a moment's notice, to not even look back lest he lose the courage to do what he was doing. Hearing her moan sleepily, however, he glanced back to see her rolling over onto her back. At first, it looked like she was about to wake up, which made his pulse increase at the possibility of being caught trying to escape. In fact, the mere thought of her waking up and thinking such a thing threatened to break his heart. Although he did pray the letter would give enough of an explanation to know that wasn't the case, he found that he was unable to simply walk away without at least a single expression of his love to her.
Quietly making his way over to her side of the bed, seeing that she continued to smile despite changing positions, it made him feel a smile form on his own lips. He was glad she was feeling so happy right now; it also helped to settle his nerves on the matter, seeing how the blue hedgehog was still incredibly concerned for her safety. Delicately brushing the single out of place quill away from her face, he caressed her cheek lovingly. She was so soft, on the other hand, after his time spent with her earlier, he already knew now how supple her skin could be. Her warmth was another matter entirely. Feeling how warm she was from sleeping in a well blanketed bed was pleasing too. 'She's so beautiful.' He thought while bending over to kiss her lips very softly. 'I'm doing this for you. Don't hate me.' Pulling away from her lips, he continued to caress her cheek for another few seconds. 'I love you, Amy.'
Walking away, tiptoeing as fast as he could, he made it to the doorway before he heard her mumble his name. "Nn… Sonic." A chill went up his spine. Turning around, however, he saw that she wasn't awake. "Nnn… I love you… Sonic… Mmm." Despite calling his name, the pink hedgehog was definitely asleep, merely calling out to him amongst her dreams. Sighing, Sonic gently pressed his head to the doorframe. Internally conflicted on the matter, he wasn't entirely sure of what to do. Even without her being awake, simply hearing her call out to him made him hesitant of his choice. "My Sonikku."
Summoning the bravery to do the difficult, he managed to suck up the frustration over his wavering attitude. Letting go of the doorframe, he made his way out into the living room. Going over to the door, he felt his pockets to ensure that he had his phone as well as that bottle of remaining pills. He found that he had everything he would need for a brief period of respite with his best buddy Tails. With that, he unlocked the door and opened it. For some reason, there was a bag of food that had been delivered at some point while they slept. He ignored it. Stepping out into the stairwell of the apartment building, prior to closing it, he looked back inside, remembering everything that she had done for him. For a second, he started doubting his decision was the right one. His heart hurt being torn between two choices. In the end, he had to push himself to move on, telling himself so many times that this was the only way, that he successfully convinced himself that it was the truth. Closing the door as quietly as he could, he started leaving the building.
Walking away from her apartment, going down the stairs to the lobby, he kept envisioning Amy's horrified expression as she was being held at gunpoint by the streetgang. Seeing those awful images in his head assisted him in wanting to get away from her. To protect her, he kept telling himself this was the only way, convincing himself with an overwhelming number of intrusive thoughts. Going outside of the apartment building onto the streets of Station Square, he headed for the Train Station where he hoped he could find the first train headed out for the Mystic Ruins. 'This is definitely going to be the best choice.' He continued to tell himself. 'She might not think this was a good decision at the moment, but she'll thank me when she's safe and sound instead of being shot by some crazy human.'

[Two Hours Later]
[Time - 3:34 P.M.]
.
"Nnnnn…. Sonic." Amy moaned sleepily with her eyes still closed, just beginning to wake up. "You're so amazing." Upon gently lifting her eyelids, it took a moment to process what was going on. She had to blink away the sleep for her vision to be clear; only then did she comprehend that she wasn't holding Sonic, but his pillow. Lifting her head, she felt a line of saliva connected to the pillow by a spit trail. "Huh?" Clearing her throat prior to wiping the pillow and sucking up the spit trailing out of her mouth, she glanced around the room to see that Sonic wasn't in the bed next to her, nor was he lounging about waiting for her. "Wait a second. What time is it?" Peering over to her alarm clock, her eyes widened whenever she saw how late it was. "3:35 in the afternoon! Holy crap, not again!" Swinging the covers back on the bed, she hopped up to her feet. As soon as she was out of bed, she became aware of how sticky her body was.
"What the-...?" All of the sudden, everything that happened earlier came flooding back into her mind. Her hands tightened into fists as she blushed madly with puffed out cheeks. Although her outside felt sticky, her insides felt slimy and radiating heat. A shiver crept up her spine as she held her hand over her lower abdomen, exactly where her womb would be on the inside of her. Her face flushed red hot as she recalled the sensation of being filled full with her hero's very own DNA. Her own moans echoed in her ears even now as a memory. "O-Oh… Y-Yeah… That-… That's right." Taking a step forward, she let out an embarrassing yet lustful squeak as she felt her body respond to being upright after intercourse. What little of his essence that hadn't been absorbed into her womb was beginning to leak out of her. The sensation was highly unusual for the novice hedgehog, but also incredibly flustering. "Geez…."
Cupping her hand underneath her privates she made her way out of the bedroom toward the bathroom. Being seen right now in this state would be horrifyingly shameful, so she didn't necessarily try to attract any attention in case Sonic was nearby. Going inside the bathroom, she closed the door and proceeded to use some toilet paper to dab at the sticky white goop dripping from her nether regions. Giving up, she sat on the toilet and relieved herself, letting gravity do the work for her. Flushing, washing her hands, she looked at herself in the mirror, seeing a dazed girl with a promiscuous grin. 'We had sex!' She screamed in her head. 'I can't believe it! Oh my God! I had sex with Sonic! He, Sonic, had sex with me!' Blushing, she shyly slapped her hands to her cheeks to hide her playful humility. 'We're a real couple now! All of that stalking finally paid off!' Sniggering, she stuck her tongue out at her own reflection in advance of saying "And mom said boys don't like that."
Right as she was about to turn away from the sink, she noticed the roll of bandage that had been left out on the counter. Glancing toward the shower, she also saw that Sonic's shoes were gone. Since it was so late in the afternoon, she speculated that he might have already gotten up; that he might perhaps be in the living room. Nonetheless, she didn't recall hearing anything when she came through to come into the bathroom here. Picking up her bathrobe from off the floor, she draped it around her shoulders in spite of it having her lover's blood on it.
After tying the robe's belt around her waist to keep it closed, she opened the door to the bathroom. "Sonic?" She called out to him, wondering if he was busy on the phone or watching television. Unfortunately, she didn't hear any commotion. Going out into the living room, she saw that the room was empty, the television was off and so were the lights, nothing to indicate that he was around and had simply stepped out. "Sonic?" She called again as she walked over to the door leading out onto her apartment's patio balcony, seeing if he had maybe stepped out for a breath of fresh air. Not seeing him out there, she turned around to walk back through the living room. "Sonic? Are you here?" Passing through the dining area to check in the kitchen just to be sure he hadn't fainted, she took note of the fact that the door was unlocked. "What in the world?"
Making her way over to and opening the door, she poked her head out to see if he was outside for whatever reason. She saw the food she had ordered from the delivery app had long since been delivered, having waited on her doorstep for half the day. Ignoring the old food, when she still didn't see him, she closed and locked the door behind her. "Sonic, where are you?!" She started getting a bit worried. Hurrying back through her apartment, she went into her bedroom to retrieve her phone in hopes of contacting him. Although she was slightly concerned, she was also upset, frustrated that he would leave without so much as letting her know where he was going. 'Calm down, Amy.' She told herself to relax until she got more answers. 'Maybe he left a message or a note or something… anything.'
Upon entering her bedroom, she made a b-line straight to her nightstand, retrieving her phone. Looking at the screen, she didn't see a message from Sonic, only a text from her boxercise coach reminding her that classes had been canceled this afternoon because the coach had a family emergency. Grunting, she started to dial in the number to Sonic's phone. Pushing the dial button, she waited, letting it ring several times until it went right to voicemail. "No way!" She spat angrily. Hanging up, she immediately redialed his number, only to hear it ring several times prior to going straight to voicemail like it did last time. However, instead of hanging up, once it went to voicemail, she decided to share with him a piece of her mind. "Sonic! Where are you?! I just woke up and you were gone! Come on, I thought we were past that… You're supposed to tell me everything now. Remember last night? Call me or get back here as soon as you get this message, do you hear me!?" Stalling out for a moment after letting off steam, she held back a tear as her hands shook. "Be safe." Was the last thing she said in advance of hanging up the phone.
"GOD!" She screamed from frustration. "What an ass! How could he do that to me after all we went through together! That…. That big blue jerk!" Throwing her phone against the bed, it bounced along the mattress prior to landing on the other side of the bed, next to the other nightstand.
Having paid attention to where her phone went, since it was now in such close proximity, she saw a piece of paper on the end table. Crawling across the bed on her hands and knees, she grabbed the paper off the nightstand, swiftly reading what was written on it. 'Amy…' It started off with. 'I know you're probably assuming the worst of me right now. But, I want you to know that I'm not leaving you. I just need time apart to focus on myself, to work on my problems. The last thing I want is for you to get hurt by a bunch of maniacs because of something that I did. So, I think it would be safer if I stayed at Tails for a little while…' Looking away, she closed her eyes and grit her teeth as her ears flattened down. Glancing back at the paper, she continued to read. 'I hope you understand and don't think it was anything you did. I love you… Amy.'
"Son of a bitch!" She cursed, which was totally unlike her, but only happened because she was so exasperated. "Why is he so stupid!" Throwing the paper as if it were going to be hurled at the wall, seeing it flutter around in advance of gently landing on the foot of the bed only served to irritate her more. "Why!? Why!? Why does he keep doing things like this to me!?" Rolling around on the bed, beating her arms against the mattress like a mad gorilla, she started crying into her soiled sheets. She could still smell his scent on them. "You're not going to protect me by staying away from me, you idiot!" She continued to demean him to let out her boiling fury regarding his immature behaviour. "You don't protect me by staying away, you protect me by being there for me when there's danger! You… You… You moron! GOD!" As everything began to become too much for her, she curled up in the fetal position to cry it out, knowing she would feel much better after endorphins were released toward the end. "Damn you, Sonic! You're lucky I love you so much or I wouldn't put up with you teasing my emotions!"
Shedding tears of sadness, she sniffled and hiccuped a few times. 'Why do I keep letting him do this to me?' She thought as she held onto her lower abdomen, subconsciously remembering what she had been through; what he did to her. It was totally incorrect to say that she didn't want to make love with him. In fact, it had been one of her deepest desires for years on end. It just hurt her feelings, for him to copulate with her so passionately that she passed out, only to awaken to him being gone, going right back to trying to keep his distance from her. 'I guess I had assumed he wouldn't still think that way after we connected on such an intimate level. Maybe I'm the fool for assuming that…' Grumbling sadly, she recalled an annoying yet brutally honest saying her father would always say to her when she was younger. "Don't ever assume anything; when you do, you make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'." How she hated that saying, but it would seem to be rather true right now. She should have known better than to expect Sonic to change in only a couple of days. Nonetheless, she merely hoped he would stick to his word.
Remaining curled up on top of the sheets for a few minutes more, she cried into her hands. Once the tears began to gradually run dry, she rolled over onto the side of the bed Sonic had slept on. She couldn't help herself; even being as furious with him as she was, she couldn't stop herself from wanting to smell his scent. Being close to the edge of the bed, however, she spotted his go-bag on the floor between the bed and the nightstand. Sniffling, wiping her nose with her bare hand, she leaned up. "He… He left his stuff?" She spoke aloud in confusion. As what Sonic had written in the note only just now began to fully register with her, she remembered him writing that he only wanted to be away for a little while and that his actions didn't mean he was planning to leave her. Shaking her head as it all processed, she stood up from the bed.
Picking up the hastily made go-bag, be it because she was nosy, or the fact that she wanted to know more of what was going on inside his head, she looked through his belongings in an attempt to find insight. Right off the bat, she noticed he didn't leave behind his cellphone, plus he made sure to take that bottle of medicine with him. There were a few articles of clothing, some deodorant that he probably needed by now, and a sheet of paper. Taking hold of the piece of paper, she read it, only to discover it was another thing Eggman had given him. Holding her hand to her mouth in shock, her eyes widened as she read it, realizing it was a discharge summary explaining the damage her hero had sustained by the first attack on him from the Concrete Junkies. It also had information regarding exercises he should be doing. She got aggravated since she hadn't seen him do one of them. Although the paper was from a machine belonging to Dr. Robotnik, the robot appeared to function as designed, giving credence to what was written here. Out of all of it, she was stunned to see precisely how hurt he was that night.
'A broken arm, three fractured ribs and a concussion.' She gasped at the extent. Having a bit of medical knowledge herself, however, she immediately started growing skeptical. "Wait." The pink hedgehog said aloud as she narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "Three fractured ribs, a concussion, a broken arm…. There's no way all of that healed in a bit over a week's time. That's far too extensive damage to have healed that fast." Holding down the paper, she glanced around the room despite being stuck in thought. What was written didn't make any sense. Either what was on the paper was a lie, which was highly probable since it was Eggman that had it printed, or Sonic's body fixed itself faster than mortally possible. As skeptical as she was, she didn't really think it could be her hero's doing. She didn't think Sonic was lying to her. But, she did remember how amazed she was when she removed the bullet from his shoulder, only to find that the wound had already scarred over in less than twenty-four hours. "That's just not possible." Her eyebrow furrowed as she thought. 'Unless…..' Shaking her head in denial, she still didn't want to believe he was misleading her somehow. "There's no way he's been carrying a Chaos Emerald this whole time without anybody knowing… That's the only thing that could make his body repair itself so fast."
From the inside of the go-bag, she spotted a white oblong tablet that must have fallen out of his medicine bottle. She stared at it for a few seconds in advance of having an idea. Putting the paper on the bed, she bent down to pick up the pill, holding it in her hand. Again, she couldn't find any discerning indications as to what it was, making it more suspicious as to what it really did. Anything can be rammed in a bottle and merely called medication, even poison. Her eyes widened as she suddenly worried that it might be just that. Sniffing it, it had no smell. She wouldn't dare to taste it, yet she was certain about her apprehension. Deep down, she knew there was something funky about them. 'What if…' Her mouth gradually fell open. 'What if this is something that Eggman has done? It only makes sense now that I think about it. Eggman has to be pumping him full of some sort of chemical that's making his body go haywire.'
Clenching her teeth, she growled angrily. "Eggman… What have you done to my Sonikku?" Holding onto the pill, she grabbed her phone off the bed, immediately dialing Tails' number with the intention of informing the fox of her suspicions. She even had plenty of evidence now to back up her claim. Her phone dialed in the number prior to calling it. The other end rang several times before she heard it pick up.
{Hey, Amy. What's up?} The yellow kitsune said cheerfully.
Straight away, she filled him in on what she thought was going on. "Tails, Sonic left me a note saying he was going over there to stay with you for a while. But, there's something I need to ask you about him…"
{Huh? What is it?} Tails asked curiously.
"When he woke up from that coma that he said he'd been in for a week, did he tell you that Eggman gave him pills to take?" She inquired, wanting to know if he had been told.
{Pills? PILLS?! Eggman gave Sonic pills… and he's taking them!?} Tails freaked out a bit at the idea.
Amy sighed as she confirmed that the yellow kitsune hadn't known about the medication. "Yes! He's under the impression that they're pain pills! But, who knows what Eggman put in them!"
{That's exactly why he shouldn't be taking them!} Tails replied. {Throw them out while he's away so that he doesn't use them… Wait… Has he taken them yet?}
Amy slapped her hand to her forehead as she shook her head, disappointed at herself for not seeing this to begin with. She suspected they weren't pain pills the moment she saw the Eggman Empire Insignia printed on the label. "Yes! He's taken several of them!"
{Crap! Umm…} The young fox huffed in frustration. {Tell him not to take any more of them.}
"How am I supposed to do that?" Amy asked. "He's not here!"
{I meant whenever he gets back. Just tell him that we need to figure out what those pills actually are and that he needs to go to a real doctor, not a Dr. Robotnik.} Tails quipped.
Amy hissed angrily to prove how frustrated she is. "Why can't you tell him? He's over there with you, isn't he? That's what it says in his note!"
Suddenly there was an awkward pause. A long moment of silence occurred before Tails finally said. {Uhh… No, he's not here right now.}
"Don't try to cover for him, Tails!" Amy commanded the fox to share what he knew.
{I'm not! I promise…} Tails responded sincerely. {He's really not here. It's just me, I've been working on the engine of The Tornado, waiting for him to show up. What time did he leave your place?}
Amy let out a deep sigh as she shrugged her shoulders despite him not being able to see it. "I don't know. I just woke up and he was gone. All he left me was a hastily scribbled note, like a jerk!"
Hearing the hurt in the pink hedgehog's voice, Tails had to ask. {Are you okay?}
"No!" Amy snapped at him in spite of knowing that he had nothing to do with the blue blur's cowardliness in regards to an intimate relationship. "No, I'm not alright at all! He told me he loved me and I just woke up to him gone." Breaking down into tears again, she tried to stifle them so she wouldn't be weeping into the phone. On the other hand, they came out anyway, rolling down her cheeks no matter how hard she tried to hold them back. "He's such a big fat jerk! Why would he do this to me, Tails!?"
Tails was clearly shocked to hear Amy's rant. He stuttered a bit as he tried to decide what to say. {He… W-Wha-... Sonic said-...? To you-...? No….. He-… What? He told you he loved you?} Obviously that was the biggest surprise to him. Out of all the years he had known Sonic, being close enough to consider him his older brother even, he never imagined the hedgehog would openly say such a phrase to a girl, much less to Amy. {He just flat out told you he loved you?}
Amy blushed lightly as she realized she would have to explain some of the events to Tails in order for him to understand her situation. Since he was younger than her and Sonic, and it frankly being none of his business, she decided to merely give him the gist of what happened while leaving out anything too R-rated. "N-Not right away. I… I mean, I told you that we went out to dinner and Twinkle Park. I sorta got him to admit that he did have feelings for me and that he did want to be with me. His excuse was that he was too scared to have me as his girlfriend because he was afraid I was going to get hurt by all the bad guys we fight."
{Yeah…} Tails admitted. {He told me that when he called me earlier. At first, I kinda understood where he was coming from. But, now I'm starting to think his philosophy on the matter is completely flawed.}
"He called you?!" She exclaimed with a sharp tone. "Oh, of course he did. He calls you, but leaves me a note that barely explains anything." Stamping her feet out of the sheer annoyance her blue lover caused her, she slung the pill at the wall in advance of sitting back on the bed, hanging her head. "Is he just toying with me?"
{If you want my honest opinion, I don't think he's toying with you.} Tails told her. {I told him I speculated he was falling in love with you. Heck, I even teased him about it.}
Sniffling, wiping the tears flowing from her eyes, she asked "You did?"
{Yeah!} Tails chuckled happily, trying to cheer her up. {Sonic always jokes around and sometimes teases me too, all in good fun of course. But, I couldn't pass up the chance to give him a taste of his own medicine!}
"No, I meant that you thought he was falling in love with me?" She asked.
Tails made a 'Pfft' noise prior to scoffing. {Are you kidding? You have to remember, this is Sonic we're talking about. The dude pretends to be totally uninterested in dating; never even had a girlfriend that I'm aware of. Now, you're telling me that he stayed over at your place, went out to dinner with you and you two visited Twinkle Park together? That's waaaay more than he's ever done before.} Taking a moment to laugh, he resumed {Next thing you know, you two will be kissing or touc-... Well, you get my point.}
"Tails!" She huffed bashfully.
{See?} He replied with more laughter. {You know what I'm talking about.} Calming down, getting serious, he cleared his throat in advance of saying. {I'm sorry that Sonic ran off, I really am. But, give him some time. Maybe he needs it to process his feelings for you.}
"So, you're saying I should be glad that he opened up to me at all?" Amy grabbed the pillow that was her beloved hero's, holding it close to her chest.
{Of course. That's all you can do, especially if you're going to be dealing with Sonic. He's the fastest thing alive, but the slowest on the planet to admit his feelings to someone.} Tails told her, truly trying to help her feel better. {I don't know what caused him to be that way, but it's how he is.} Taking a moment as silence filled the earpiece of the phone, he eventually asked her. {Do you wanna hear a secret?}
Her ears perked up as she wondered if it was a bit of gossip. "Sure."
{When Sonic and I first met, he didn't want anything to do with me either. It was persistence and proving my worth to him that he came around.} Tails replied as it sounded like a garage door was opening from his end of the phone.
"Really?" Amy cocked her head to the side from the revelation. "I guess I always assumed he considered you his little brother from the get-go."
{Nope!} Tails said rather nonchalantly. {So, don't worry about it too much. Give him some space and he'll come around.}
Amy placed the pillow to her nose, gently inhaling her lover's scent. Staring off blankly into the corner of the room, she suddenly spotted the pill she had thrown out of anger. "What about the pills? Is there any way you can examine it to find out what they are?"
{Hmmm….} Tails hummed in thought, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. {I'll definitely take a look at it for both you and him. I don't have the proper equipment to do an in-depth analysis of it though. I could send it off to a civilian lab, but it'll take weeks before we get back the results.} Sensing that Amy wanted more than that, he continued {I'll tell you what you can do… Go about your day and cheer up. When Sonic shows up here, I'll text you, then I'll talk to him about the medicine. I'm sure I can convince him to throw it away.}
"Thank you, Tails." She sniffled as a smile formed on the corners of her lips. "You're a good friend to the both of us."
{Aww, shucks. Don't make me blush.} Tails joked lightheartedly. {You two, even ol' knucklehead, are my family. I'd do anything to help you. Try to cheer up, okay? Everything is going to be alright.}
"I will. Talk to you later." She said goodbye as she stood up from the bed.
{Bye.} Tails said goodbye.
Hanging up the phone, placing it on the nightstand, the pink hedgehog sniffled again, wiping away the last of the tears that fell from her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she took in all that Tails said, processing it as her heart felt a heavy weight beginning to gradually lift off it. Instead of feeling abandoned, she tried to realize that Sonic might simply need time to think and process things on his own. It made her feel a lot better to think that way. Since the note Sonic wrote explicitly said he didn't intend on breaking up with her, she had to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"You're still stupid…" She berated her blue lover with a chuckle since he wasn't here to defend himself. Exhaling, she tugged the sheets off the bed, knowing that they needed to be washed. Pulling them into a ball, she carried them to her utility room that was on the opposite wall of her closet. Tossing them in a hamper between her single person washer and dryer, she returned to the bedroom. Going over to her closet, she opened the doors in advance of rummaging around for clean sheets to put on the bed. Her body felt hot. She figured it was from the stress and anxiety. Nonetheless, it encouraged her to go for a white silk sheet that would be cooling to sleep on. While stretching the sheet across the bed, she thought about how she could punish her lover for his foolishness, some way that she would get plenty of pleasure from. "And you're definitely going to get it good whenever I get a hold of you next!" Blowing a raspberry to represent her frustration, she giggled as her mind slowly drifted back to what the two hedgehogs did together in her bed. "I need a shower."
